Read the entire chapter. John 14:2, In that time it was common for a father to build a small apartment against one side of the house to be used by the first born son and his bride.
---Glenn on 2/25/10

In 1 aspect it refers to, The Lord, His saints are mansions, because The Holy-Ghost dwells within them.
---Lawrence on 2/25/10

Eloy, the "we" and "us" I was speaking for were for all the people you have told to get saved, that don't believe the stuff you say. Those are the "us." Why? because it is all of "you." It's never about all of us put together since "you" are better then all, since "you" are the one sinless and the light Jesus saw.
---MarkV. on 1/14/10

Markv, You incorrectly use the plural word "us" when only "you" yourself are speaking.
---Eloy on 1/10/10

Eloy, we understand that "you" are more important then us. We have heard that already from "you". For "you" say, "you" are the light that Jesus saw on the Cross so "you" should be believed no matter what. "You" also have the mind of God, so "you" know everything the Lord is thinking and doing since He stops at "your" house and leaves in a hurry to go build more mansions not prepare them. So "you" must know everything. Hey, didn't "you" notice, this whole thing is about "You." Why didn't we get noticed that?
---MarkV. on 1/9/10

I like the comparison of house to a physical tabernacle, once we get to heaven our "temple"(we are temples of the Holy Spirit)will be at home in God's vast mansion of Heaven..and Jesus has already gone there to make it all ready for us,what a promise!..but I still think the concept is more than we are able to imagine, how do you plumb the depth and richness of God's Love?
---richard on 1/6/10

It is Not, many dwellings have been in my Father's house, Nor was it already prepared: but the Truth says, "I Go To Prepare a place for you. If not I would have told you."
---Eloy on 1/6/10

Lee, Eloy's mansion will certainly be bigger then ours. Jesus left in a hurry from his house to finish building it. All the others were finished already. "in My Fathers house are many mansions"
---MarkV. on 1/6/10

I am left wondering if my mansion will be bigger than your mansion and whether I will have more house servants?
---Lee1538 on 1/6/10

It just means that Christ has prepared a place in heaven for His diciples.
---catherine on 1/5/10

Exzucuh, I just finished reading three of your blogs and you gave no Scripture. Why is that? Are you exempt in some way and we should believe what you put down? If you don't like anyone questioning what you put down, then maybe you should not answer. False teachers are everywhere. You can dish anything you want at me. To this point I have not called you as a person anything. I question your believes just as I question Eloys when he puts something down with no Scripture.
---MarkV. on 1/5/10

No Markv I am giving you what you give myself and others. What you give is what you receive.
If you cannot take what you dish out then learn what it is you are doing by the way you feel when it is done to you. You are not asking a question you are attacking peoples beliefs with the way you ask a question. If you do not believe what they say. don't ask them, show them scripture that will prove they are believing false doctrine. If you cannot prove they are wrong, then you are wasting your time. The Jews used questions in this manner to try to ruin Jesus. It is not a worthy practice.
---exzucuh on 1/5/10

Exzucuh, I believe you have gotten very critical of me because I have questioned you on certain topics. Then you say I want to provoke instead of teaching and here is what you said to me,
"The disciples did not believe Jesus was raised from the dead they acted like Markv."
Your example of me is provoking. You want me not to question someone who says, he is the light that Jesus saw on the Cross. That we should believe it without question. It is the same as your statement that genuine believers have to endure to keep the Spirit inside, and that the Spirit upon you has the power to do many things. The Spirit inside is powerless to help you because you have to endure by works. Just alot of twisting of Scripture.
---MarkV. on 1/5/10

Why do you keep wasting space. You have already made it clear what you believe. You can only say the same thing over and over. I don't care to hear about it any more. What Eloy says has never changed so as long as you do not engage in his deranged conversation other people can comment. And you take up space ranting about foolishness that no person can prove. The only way to discuss scripture is with scripture.
---exzucuh on 1/4/10

Jesus is reassuring that he will make special dwelling for each and every one of his disciples. This is our home, in the 3rd heaven is Paradise where Gods home is (Deuteronomy 10:14+ John 14:2,3).
---Eloy on 1/4/10

Exzucuh, I don't waste my time on things that are not important. I answer to things that are deceitful. I've heard many so call evangelist speak very holy words while deceiving people and in turn they begin to believe a lie, that only a miracle by God can get them back on the right road. When someone claims he is the light that Jesus saw on the Cross, that should bring a red flag that he is not of sound mind. And if he claims to have been born again twice, it really gives evidence of someone who is far from the truth. He is deceiving people. A person would have to be completely nuts to think that Jesus stopped building mansions to go to Eloy' home and left in a hurry to go and finish building more. You want to believe it, go for it.

---Lee1538 on 1/3/10 I do not have a problem WITH markv not believing that ELOY SAW Jesus
my problem with him is he attacks people for something he cannot prove himself did not happen. He wastes time on things that has nothing to do with enlightening people but has every thing to do with provoking them to anger.
---exzucuh on 1/3/10

exzucuh//The disciples did not believe Jesus was raised from the dead they acted like MarkV. They did not believe Mary had seen Jesus.

After all, it was not every day that they seen someone come back from the grave!

Maybe like Thomas who did not believe Jesus had arisen from the dead and needed some evidence beyond the word of others, MarkV also would like to base what he believes on something that can be substantiated. Who knows, maybe he lives either in Missouri (the Show Me State) or one of the nearby states.
---Lee1538 on 1/3/10

The disciples did not believe Jesus was raised from the dead they acted like Markv. They did not believe Mary had seen Jesus.
Mark 16:11 And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not.
---exzucuh on 1/3/10

Wivv, you said nit picking. Now lets see here,
1. Jesus Christ is God, He is seating on the right hand of the Father and you are saying that Jesus came to Eloy's house in person and left in a hurry to go build more mansions in heaven? Is that what you are saying I am nit picking about?
2. That some how Jesus interupeted His building to make a house call? Eloy's because he is someone special?
3. That Scripture is wrong and that He makes many comings so the Second Coming is not correct at all?
4. Are you suggesting that He came to your house in person too?
Do you believe this nonsense?

Eloy it is proven that you bear false witness, but after you get saved then you will no longer be able to speak falsehood but the truth.

For God so loved the world (not the harmony) that He gave His only Son that whomsoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Of course, eloy will content that he had some kind of vision maybe of the Virgin Mary that told him that only he can translate the Bible properly while all those who have taught Greek for years simply cannot.

But are we wasting our time with him?Proverbs 29:9
---Lee1538 on 1/2/10

MarkV
Stop being a nit-picker! You don't know or understand Koine Greek - the language of Christ time and used to translate Scipture.
---wivv on 1/2/10

Wivv, Jesus is not building mansions, He might be preparing them for the believers. The mansions are already there. Read Scripture.
---MarkV. on 1/1/10

Jesus went to prepare "apartments" for us in the heavenly city "the New Jerusalem." He will return (2nd coming) to take us there one day (so the dead are not there now as spooks). At the end of a 1000 year reign with Christ in heaven, we will return to earth IN the New Jerusalm, at which time the earth will be "cleansed" with fire.

You need to fully understand the marriage customs at the time of Christ to grasp this concept. Here is a brief version: once the groom had made arrangements for his wife to be, he went back to his home to build her a house. Once completed, (he had a year to do this) he would sneak up to her house and with a loud voice, claim his wife to be. He would then take her to her new home. So it is with Christ - He has gone to prepare a place, (mansions) for His bride, (Christians) and will come again to claim His bride and take His bride to the mansions He has prepared.
---wivv on 12/31/09

MarkV, it is proven that you bear false witness, but after you get saved then you will no longer be able to speak falsehood but the truth.
---Eloy on 12/31/09

If you are looking for deeper meaning in this passage, ask yourself why Jesus told the disciples this and what He expected them to understand about it.

I must remind people that the marriage customs of Jesus day were for a groom to go to another town and pick out/negotiate a bride, return to his father's house and prepare a place for his bride and himself, return suddenly to get his bride and bring her back to his father's house, followed by the marriage and marriage feast at his father's house.

I think the disciples would have known this wedding custom and could have understood that Jesus may have meant this.

Mark 16:19-20 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached every where,
--THE LORD WORKING WITH THEM-- and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

Acts 22:6-9 as I made my journey, and was come nigh unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light round about me. And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest. And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid, but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me.

Eloy, you try to rewrite Scripture to make it fit your corrupt believes.
John 14:21 In the context Jesus was not speaking about coming in person everyday as you suggest, that He came to your house. When He said
"He who loves Me (talking about the apostles) will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him"
First, He was refering to the resurrection, after which they would see Him (John 20:19-29). In (John 16:19-22) Jesus did say the apostles were going to see Him again, but that was on the Second Coming. So no, He is not showing up in person but will on the Second Coming. The Holy Spirit is here bringing people to Christ, And in the Spirit we are in Christ, but He is not physically present.
---MarkV. on 12/31/09

And there again you reveal you are rendering under your feet the precious Jewels of those that have things that can not be told to some individuals. I guess you think that I cannot prove that Jesus came back after he ascended.
It is in the scripture very plain that he came back and was with the disciples after he sat at the right hand of God. And he is with those those that believe that he is, but some seek after angels who many times are not sent from God but have transformed themselves into Angels of light.
---exzucuh on 12/31/09

MarkV, you post falsehood. Jesus says: "Blessed they of clean heart, for they will see God. He that has my commandments, and keeps them, he it is that loves me: and he that loves me will be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him." Matthew 5:8+ John 14:21
---Eloy on 12/31/09

Exzucuh, I once got the feeling you were Eloy when you answered people. And now you too are suggesting that Jesus comes in person to talk to people, and that Eloy is correct when he said that Jesus came to his house and left in a hurry to go build more mansions? Is that what you are proclaiming? That I should not question Eloy because it is wrong?
You see Exzucuh, nowhere in Scripture are we told that after Jesus resurrected and went to be with the Father, He was going to make visits here in person to individuals who are sinless. First, why visit the sinless, they have no need for Christ? their are sinless. Second, how many second coming are there? Third, No where does the Bible suggest that Jesus is building mansions in heaven by hand.

This is what I am talking about Markv and others. Eloy and I agree on very little when it comes to who Jesus is, but on most of his understanding of the purpose of the christian life, he is right on line. But as far as his experience with Jesus, I will not question that or ridicule him as you are doing. You are attacking him and you cannot prove he did not see Jesus. Jesus appears to people but that does not mean that they understand the meaning of his visit. Paul had no idea of what his visitation meant until Ananias laid hands on him and he received the Holy Spirit, then later Paul was received up to the third heaven to receive the understanding of that visit, which was the gospel of Grace.

//But nonetheless, you were not present with me and Jesus in my house when Jesus turned to leave and go back up to heaven://

I really dont know what to say about this...

Are you about to tell everyone that you are 2000 years old?
---JackB on 12/29/09

I question this persons "experience" of Christ coming to him and then having to leave "quickly" to return to the task of building. The more important issue is not the "mansions" but will you even be there? And beware of "experiences & manifestations"....we must always seek truth and judge these things by it.
---John on 12/28/09

Eloy, nothing you say surprises me. I have heard you for a long time now. So Jesus came to your home, and he left in a hurry to go build more mansions for everyone. If that was His Second coming, He sure missed taking every believer with Him. Or is He Coming again a third time later? You don't realize how rediculous it all sounds Eloy. You do belong with the televangelist, they speak in the same way as you about Christ. Christ is present when they are shaving or in the toilet.

God put Adam on the earth and his only house was the Body that God gave him when you appear in heaven your house will still be the spiritual Body you receive and when you return to Earth your House will be your Glorified Body.

2 Corinthians 5:1 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

2 Corinthians 5:4 For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.
---exzucuh on 12/28/09

MarkV, I would consider it an honor to evangelize on a TV broadcast. But nonetheless, you were not present with me and Jesus in my house when Jesus turned to leave and go back up to heaven: thus you do not know the truth, and in fact you are speaking falsehood. So try telling what you said to my Lord Jesus whom turned to go back up to heaven indeed in a hurry after he was finished ministering to me, and this in order that he can take up building where he left off.
---Eloy on 12/28/09

The word Mansion that is used was translated to represent the Large dwelling places that Roman and Jewish people lived in. They were not Houses but walled Manors that sometimes covered many acres. Jesus said there are many places like this in heaven, but he did not say he was making places like this for his disciples. He said he was preparing a place for them. The place he was talking about was in him. What ever Jesus has he shares it with his body, his church, those that overcome will even share his throne and his authority. You have to overcome here in this life to receive that authority and it begins as Jesus said Ye shall receive Power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you.
---exzucuh on 12/28/09

Eloy, talk about a deeper meaning, you speak as the TV evangelist do. Jesus was not going away to build anything. Just because He was a carpenter before His ministry does not mean He will build the mansions. And you said He was in a hurry to go to heaven to finish building the dwellings. Where do you come out with such stuff? The most rediculous statements you come out with.
Did you not read, "In My Fathers house are many mansions, if it was not so, I would have told you." The mansions are already there Eloy. If not, Jesus would not have said that. Hello? When God speaks, it is done. There is no building going on with God.
He went to prepare a place for everyone. He was not in a hurry. He is God.

Jesus just told his disciples that he was leaving, and this greatly troubled his disciples, therefore Jesus was reassuring and promising them that he will return for them. lit.Gk: "In my Father's home are many dwellings, if not I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you to myself, that where I am you all may be also." John 14:2,3. Right now as I post this, I know indeed that Jesus Almighty is diligently building many dwellings in paradise for those of us whom belong to him. For when he came down to minister to me in person in California, he was in a hurry to go back up to heaven again in order to finish building all of our wonderful dwellings.

In my Father's house(the Spirit domain)are many mansions(a multitude of spirital worlds beholding mansion like beauty).

just a remark,or more an observation, with my life experiences, and the questions asked that I read here,ARE PEOPLE THIS CONFUSED?if so,how sad.Or are they more depressed with what they perceive as the UNKNOWN,most questions here are a,most without exception self explanatory,no wonder the world is a mess.
---tom2 on 12/27/09

jesus also said I go to prepare a place for you, meaning that their reward was already meet even before his death.DEEPER MEANING,whats all the concern about DEEPER MEANING?Its amazing to me that many believers seek what they call revelation, aka, deeper meaning in apparently every verse in the bible, and every word, and parable that our lord spoke.Just how deep is the truth?how deep is love?how deep is humility?how deep is kindness?we are made in Gods image, and thru christ have the capacity to imulate God,but it is a matter of choice.many mansions can simply mean just what it says, many places where people reside.

Jesus is informing His disciples that through the soon to come indwelling presence of His Father's Spirit, there is great comfort and rest, an empowerment to abide in a state of expectancy and endurance. A place for them to reside in a close and intimate relationship with Him as members of His eternal family.
Comforting them with the knowledge that He would soon be going away to prepare that place for them in Him, and a condition within them for Him. That He would soon return to them in the Spirit of the Father and the Son, the comforting Holy Spirit of Truth to establish that association with them, so that where He presently resided in His Father, they could be also. His peace and rest He has given us in Him.
---Josef on 12/27/09

Paul spoke of a man being "caught up to the third heaven". With that in mind, I believe the "deeper meaning" is that there are various levels of Heaven/reward which we could not begin to fathom. From my reading, I also believe that there are levels of Hell/punishment.
