Mayan Calendar End 2012

Recently, I have been hearing about the Mayan calendar and how they predict that the world will end in 2012. By now we are all aware of it since the movie was released last year. Obviously, it contradicts what is in the Bible. But I would like to hear other people's view on this.

Cluny, I know...he is actually the president of the US. Yea, the constitution says so...I simply hope that "change" will come in the upcoming elections... as for the "change" that he talks about... that's about all I have in my pockets, change. Let me look, in my pocket... 3 quarters, 4 dimes, some nickels and wow, a one dollar bill...

\\I agree with you. Obama is the least qualified man to ever run for the president and the joke is, he won.\\

He might be as ineffective as Jimmy Carter, but both are qualified according to the U. S. Constitution, which gives the sole qualifications for President.
---Cluny on 7/10/10

Jerry, I agree with you. Obama is the least qualified man to ever run for the president and the joke is, he won. I love that line that if he walked into a room, he would be the least qualified man in the room no matter what the subject would be... except for muslim policies...This nation is in trouble. He needs to go as well as a sweeping change in congress.

I think 2012 is a smoke screen used by satan to cover up the days of tribulation mentioned in Revelation. Yes I think its that soon.

Satan knows the Bible and he knows his fate as well. Like Jesus he does not know the exact moment when the Father will send the Son to redeem us, but I do believe satan knows the time of tribulation.

If people believe the horrible events spoken of are a result of a rogue planet coming close to ours, they will be less likely to pay attention to the Bible for an explanation of whats going on.

I know... I know! Charlie Brown!
All Charlie wants to do is kick a football around so he wouldn't be doing it to the American citizens.
He could take Snoopy as his Vice-president. We all know that Snoopy is a combat veteran. He was a Fighter Pilot. Things look better all ready.
---Elder on 5/13/10

"Can you suggest who could replace him and be any better?"

That's easy. Pick anyone at random off the streets of America. Chances are they wouldn't be any less qualified and most likely wouldn't be trying to subvert our constitutional republic.
---jerry6593 on 5/13/10

Anthony: Can you suggest who could replace him and be any better?

I don't see many possibilities right now?

Perhaps we could just leave the post empty until a viable president is found?

Peter, you are correct. God is patient, not willing that any of those whom He has chosen to come to the knowledge of Jesus Christ. No one knows the day or the hour, what we should do is to make our salvation sure. We do not want to be caught not ready. We are called to witness to others the Truth of the gospel and display the love of Christ in our hearts. The rest is left up to God.
But even if we know that, as human beings we are influence by so many things about the end times because of all the hoop-la concerning earthquakes, disasters, gossips, movies on the end times, and material written by many Christians on the end times.
---MarkV. on 4/24/10

MarkV: It seems likely, but not certain, that the end is coming. We are told that Jesus will come as a thief in the night, and (by Him) that even did He not know ('or even the Son, but only the Father' wasn't it)?

The time seems 'ripe', but God may, for His own reasons, wait a few decades.

Our job is simply to obey for as long as God wants us to remain down here

Preparation for the end does not mean ignoring our current duties, even if it is only feeding the pigs

Peter, I too have to wonder if we are getting close to that time, for one because if you look at the unfolding of Scripture from the beginning to now we are close to the unfolding of the end of Scripture. We have just passed a whole lot of history mentioned in Scripture and are looking at the end of Scripture. Not much has to be done before that time according to the prophets. Very little is left to be completed. There is enough happening for all of us to talk about.
---MarkV. on 4/21/10

Donna8679: yes, it does sound like now, true. But I am quite sure there were other times when similar things were happening (1944-5, 1918 - the spanish flu that may have killed 20 million, Stalin's gulags, Mao's gulags, Cuban missile crisis). Certainly [I cannot argue] it is possible, maybe even likely, but I would just say it is not certain

Atheist: though we disagree, you seem a logical person..... I do not have a specific opinion about the age of the earth, as I am not certain whether the six days are of 24 hours or not.

I just meant in my comment that in history (of human civilization) there have always been massive crises, but in the past we did not know when there was a crisis in another country (I remember Chernobly, 1986, when we did not know anything for many days, and the full story was not know for over 10 days - now we hear about every tragedy within hours, and we get more scared!)
---peter3594 on 4/18/10

Good Point Peter.
Our Lord told us to expect this, so we'll just have to hang on.

Now we have that huge Fireball incident over the Midwest on April 15th. The video footage pouring in on the News Stations.

It changed night to day over about 7 states. It so bright the it was decribed as when you burn zinc.

Then we find in one footage two missiles were fired at it and one hit the other was on its way to it. (CNN Video)

I'm not into comsprasy theories or interpreting every incident as an End Time sign. But it is getting very very strange lately.
---John on 4/16/10

I agree with you peter, what will be will be. All we can do is to stay strong in our faith and trust in the Lord. He will come in his own time, and we should be ready at any time.
---donna8679 on 4/16/10

Peter,

Also keep in mind that records have not been kept that long---unless you believe everything started 6000 years ago.

Communications and general knowledge of events of what's happening all over the world. A few hundred years ago volcanoes and earthquakes could occur and the only people who would be aware would be those nearby.

Also the Mayan calendar is a cyclicle calendar, meaning that 2012 is the end of a cycle and the beginning of a new cycle, not the end of the world.

John, you are right, in recent months things have looked very bad, and it is ominous. I am not fully convinced, because there have also been other times when it must have looked similar, but we have just forgotten them (world war 2 might have been one, or the flu of was it 1918 that killed so many, or the Cuban missile crisis - wars and rumours of wars, or pestilence, or famine). Our main duty is simply to obey, go on with our life being faithful, and wait to see. As yet, I do not see that there is something extra we must do, aside from our normal Christian duties

I do not think this has ever happened before. There may be more coming.

Mayan Calendar is wrong. The rapture will be on May 21, 2011 and after that 5 months of torment. It will be 5 months like hell on earth, then the End of the World October 21, 2011. The earth will be completely burned up.

Read Gen 7:4 and 2 Peter 3:8. From Noah's flood to May 21, 2011 is exactly 7000 years. The relation ship you can see in this verse that the 7 days spoken in Gen. is equal to 7000 years.

There are all kinds of programs, books and various scientific disciplines that are predicting "dooms day". To me, it is just varification that Jesus is coming soon. No man can know when Jesus is coming but we can see the signs of His nearness. The problem with all of these people predicting the end of the planet is that it instills fear and hopelessness in some. Bible teaches that we should be aware of the signs and rejoice bc our redemption is near.

On Dec 21 2012 the Mayan calendar comes to an end coinciding with a rare alignment of planets and stars in our galaxy, AND everything else is just speculation. This date could come usher in a new age for the world OR it could come and go without a peep just like Y2K. It may be fun to speculate, but our behavior shouldn't be any different than before we heard of the this Mayan calendar date.

Youre trying to find something you cant see with eyes.
Nor the time or season, this not clear?

Luk 17:20
The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:
Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see it.
And they shall say to you, See here, or, see there: go not after them, nor follow them.

Dont blink, youll miss it!

For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven, so shall also the Son of man be in his day.

Mt 24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place...

Da 12:7 ...that it shall be for a time, times, and an half, ...all these things shall be finished."

Da 12:11 And from the time... the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.

Mt 24:30 ...then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven...

I wonder why God would tell us this? Perhaps we may not be able to know the day: but we can surely know the year--even the month--unless we croak first.

Or perhaps He's just pullin' our chains?

TheSeg:

Spotting planets in other solar systems is done by observing gravitational wobbles in the star itself. The planets themselves are generally too dim to be seen. As far as whether they contain water or anything else, this is deduced by absorption spectra of light from the star.

As far as nearby objects go, we're talking about looking at a dark lump of rock 1500 feet across, 93 million miles away. This would appear to the eye to be the same size as a quarter if viewed from 4000 miles away. Unless it's very well lit and in a well known location, good luck with that.
---StrongAxe on 1/21/10

Too distant? If they could spot an earthlike planet having water millions of light years away, you would think that they can spot and identify something 93 million miles away, don't you think? : )

BruceB I only gave what the Bible says. Read Revelation 7 especially verse 14 which says about people in white robes ,these are they which came out of great Tribulation. Whatever God's plan it is perfect and who is in Heaven in the first resurrection seems to be those who suffered the most for God and the Kingdoms sake. I just thank God he has made a way for all his children to get to be with him one day whether they go through great tribulation or not. 1 Corinthians 15:52 --at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. According to this it happens for many at the last trump.
---Darlene_1 on 1/21/10

Darlene_1,

The "mark" was not around when the apostles were martyred: right? So, does that mean they are not part of the "first resurrection"? If they are not, your hypothesis is still wrong because:

"...the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain..."

John saw the souls of those who were obviously absent from the body, or they'd have had bodies and not just souls. We know that those who are first resurrected (both dead and alive) will have glorified bodies.

The souls of the rest of the dead, who ain't there, are the rest of the human race to be judged. You're attempting to interpret sequential visions... as a sequence in timing. That approach just won't work.

Cluny,

The souls John saw were prior to the resurrection. Obviously. So?

Re 20:7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,
8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.
9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.

This is AFTER the thousand years. And where are the saints when this happens? On earth.

So, who's right--the A-millennialsts or the Bible?
---BruceB on 1/21/10

TheSeg:

According to statistics as of last August, Apophis has around a 1 chance in 250,000 of hitting Earth in 2036. This is a fairly wide window. It's much smaller than the chance of being hit by a cannon being shot randomly into a football field. Given that degree of uncertainty, predicting a precise position of impact is like saying "I have a four in a million chance of being hit by a flying cannon ball, but if it DOES hit, it will hit me in the left index finger".
---StrongAxe on 1/21/10

The thousand years is the first resurrection and only those who were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, didn't worshp the Beast, nor his image, and didn't take the mark of the Beast in their forehead nor on their hand will be there then,Revelations 20:4 & 5 and the rest of the dead didn't live again until that thousand years was over, the second resurrection. So we see the idea of all saints living during the thousand years reign is incorrect.

\\
Let me get this straight--the saints are gonna reign and rule with Christ, a thousand years, with Satan locked up in the pit: no war between the nations (which nations are... the saints?)\\

St. John said he saw the SOULS of those beheaded for Christ.

Obviously, the general resurrection had not yet happened in his vision.

Therefore, this reign is taking place in heaven in the spiritual realm, and not on earth.
---Cluny on 1/21/10

Nongodly people since the beginning of time have been worshipping idols and making bogus fortune-tellings and fabricating all manner of superstitious bunk, even to drawing lots and kissing toads and prognosticating by watching ground hog shadows, and delusionally thinking, "oooh it must be fated from the stars, Look out, danger is coming." But the truth is, Not so. Let hollywood make their fantasy movies, but it is merely entertainment and not true prophecy. If anyone wants to know exactly what is coming upon the earth, read the Holy Bible, it gives details which we know will happen, because every prophecy written in it has come to pass to date so far, and therefore the rest of the prophecies will surely come to pass.
---Eloy on 1/21/10

Cluny,

Let me get this straight--the saints are gonna reign and rule with Christ, a thousand years, with Satan locked up in the pit: no war between the nations (which nations are... the saints?)

Since those saints would have already been perfected, obviously they can't be corrupted: yet after a thousand years, Jesus is gonna let Satan loose to deceive the saints?

I suppose those incorruptible saints are just gonna have to face one final little test to confirm that God didn't screw up by perfecting them--what... by mistake?

And this takes place somewhere other than on earth?

Is that about right?

Jesus told Pilate "but NOW is my kingdom not from hence." That word, NOW, means... presently.

\\because Jesus will have returned to set up HIS kingdom on earth for 1,000 years.\\

There's no such thing as an earthly millennium.

Jesus said, "My Kingdom is NOT of this world," but that's all a millennial kingdom is.

Even those who believe in it admit it comes to an end, but the Kingdom of Christ will HAVE NO END, as Gabriel told the Virgin at the Annunciation.

So who's right--the millennialsts or the Bible?
---Cluny on 1/20/10

The world ain't gonna end in 2012. In fact, it ain't gonna end for a while. The AGE will end, which is the period of worldly governments: because Jesus will have returned to set up HIS kingdom on earth for 1,000 years.

I can tell you for certain (Biblically) that 2012 cannot be the end of the age--it's less than 7 years away.

BTW: that 7 years ain't the Tribulation. But it is the last week, as Daniel wrote. Jesus made that quite clear. And He made it quite clear He ain't comin' back until after the 3.5 year Tribulation. (Mt 24:1-31)

You have a minimum of 7 years to get straight with God... unless you croak, first. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Right?
---BruceB on 1/20/10

There are a lot of theories on when the world will end. Many people try to study Revelations and other historic documents to figure it out. I can tell you I haven't the slightest clue when the world will end. But it really doesn't matter much anyways. Because I do know that one day YOUR world will come to an end, and when it does you better not be without Jesus Christ.

Fear took hold of this certain prophet in the old testament after God told his what the future will be like. The prophet asked God, "What shall I do?" God simply said to be aware of these events and continue what you were doing.

Christians should heed this advice - to only be aware of what is to shortly come - and is here now - and continue what you were doing (to love and to glorify God in everything you do) and obey the commandments of God.

1st - The Mayas were basicly Satan worshippers if you look at their history - so do you really want to hear what Satan has to say, or what God has to say, considering that Satan can only bring counterfeits of the real? 2nd - The Bible says that NO one knows the day or hour, NOT even the Son of Man (Jesus) - do you really think God would tell us before He tells His Son, when the end is? 3rd - The ONLY calendar that existed in Bible days (O.T. and N.T.) was the Jewish calendar - We can know the seasons and signs the Bible says, but only if we use this calendar. Anything else is man's idea, NOT God's idea. Let's be wise and use the Bible to tell us, NOT man or Satan.
