Well, it wasn't Eve. I was sure that this was a trick queston, a while back when I looked at it. It wasn't, no, actually, it was a very good question. It caused me to scramble, although the answer was running through my mind. Adam is the person that named his wife Eve, because she is the mother of the living. What did God call her? WOMAN.

Woman.

James,The psalmist David has gone a little astray on this (12.6-7) since there doesn't exist an "original" copy of early manuscripts, and of the fragments that do exist, no two copies are identical!
God's word may be everlasting but scribes error and parchment deteriorates!
David's melody (psl.12) was wistful thinking!

It is a priveledge to meet someone like yourself that thinks he is intelligent enough to correct God's Word in Genesis 5:2. I suppose your acedemic credentials are as good as the men that translated the KJ Bible in 1611. Have you ever read about them? Seriously, in the light of Psalms 12:6-7 there has to be an inerrant preserved copy of God's Word for us to read. If you would do an honest study of manuscript evidence, you would know that. To bad you wasn't on the translation committee for the KJV!

"Adam" in Genesis 5:2 is an English mistranslation. lit.Hb: "Male and female made he them and called their names man, in the day when they were created." Genesis 5:2. "Man" here is not a formal name, but a title used to address all humans as Creations differentiating them from God their Creator. "Adam" is not a feminine name nor androgynous, neither are women named "Adam" nor "John" nor "Robert" nor "Dan" nor "Jake" nor "Harry": but the coordinating feminine names to these masculine names would be "Adamina", as well as, "Jane" and "Roberta" and "Danielle" and "Jackie" and "Harriet".

God called Adam's wife, "woman" and "wife", and Adam named his wife, "Animate". Most English translations use "Eve", but the Hebrew word means "Life", so "Animate", or in Greek "Viva" would be more accurate than "Eve": "And Adam called his wife Animate, because she was the mother of all that lives." Gensis 3:20.

Their last was was Gardener.
Mr and Mts Adam Gardener"
francis on 3/16/10
Where do folks, like Frances, come up with this foolishness? There is nothing in the Bible that remotely suggests that Adam's last name was Gardener. This is pure misinformation. Next they didn't need a last name. Why would they? Do you think there was someone who didn't know them? There are too many people adding to the Bible now. Maybe Eloy and Frances should date each other.
---Elder on 3/18/10

A good sense of hunour is always needed as a christian. Proverbs 17:22 A merry heart doeth good [like] a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

ADAM GARDNER you cannot tell that this is a joke?

LOL LOL LOL

her name was Mrs. ADAM and his name was Mr. Adam.
Their last was was Gardener.
Mr and Mts Adam Gardener

Genesis 5:2 Male and female created he them, and blessed them, and called THEIR NAME ADAM, in the day when they were created.
---francis on 3/16/10

Adam called her woman, Gen 2:21-23 (23).
Adam called her Eve Gen 3:20.
God called her ADAM...........
Gen 5:1-2 (2).... Male and female He created them, and called their name Adam.
This was Mr. and Mrs. Adam. (There was Adam Adam and Eve Adam.) Then they gave birth to little Seth Adam. Along came little grandson Enos Adam when Grandpa was a young 235 years old.
Grand children have a way of making you feel old, huh?
Having all these children really took a toil on Adam. He died a young 930 years old.

1stCliff....Is that Greek or Hebrew?
---KarenD on 3/13/10

Actually they were named Ish and Isha (feminine form of ish)
---1st_cliff on 3/13/10

Mark V,
While previously addressing this, someone else stated that I speculated but gave no specifics.
Big favor... Specifically point out speculations.
What may seem to be speculations may be sound, well thought out, Bible-based observations that short blogs have inadequate space to fully explain. The points in my blogs are backed by the proper scriptural witnesses and contextual, scriptural principles. Disagree? Be specific.
I am also aware that ALL(me,you, them) tend to be blind & prideful when it comes to our doctrinal opinions. Especially true when we believe our doctrine is errorless. "There could be no possible way that my mind and God's mind are not in complete agreement" on a subject.
Happy to discuss!
---Legends on 3/13/10

I think I agree with Legend on this.
The man formed-the man called 'Adam'-denote origin-dust from the ground.Gen2:8
Gen5:1 This is the book of generation of Adam.In the day that God created man.(mankind-human)-(Adams descendents-seed:Christ-"son of Adam").
vs.2
Male and female created he them, blessed them, and called their name Adam(human-mankind),in the day when they(human-man-kind)were created.

Eve(chay-flesh:living-chawa:life-giver)
Gen3:30 And Adam(the man called)called his wife's Name Eve,because she was the mother of All living.
Womans womb of water brings life.
Mother of the seed of Christ. Those who do not have Christ are dead.

catherine-- Well it IS a trick question, in a way. GOD did not name Adam's helpmate "woman", Adam did.
---Donna66 on 3/12/10

Good work Joseph!
I have a lot of fun with the question, What did God name Adam's wife. Most folks have a hard time coming up with the correct answer because they do not look past Genesis chapter 1-2 for it. Adam & Eve started out as Mr. & Mrs. Adam! All of the peoplw in the world that don't beleive the bible is really from God have to conform to that format. A woman has no last name of her own. She either has her father's name or her husband's name.
---James on 3/12/10

"What did God name Adam's wife?" Adam.

"This [is] the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him, Male and female created he them, and blessed them, 'and called their name Adam', in the day when they were created." Gen. 5:1,2

Hello Legends, you did a lot of speculating with your answer. Of course you would have to put a lot of things together to bring that up.
---MarkV. on 3/12/10

Part 2
Man's call often falls short of God's glorious call.
Man gave Abram/Sarai there called names, but God's call was glorious... Abraham/Sarah!
Man called Simon Barjonah his name but Jesus called him The Rock.
Here's what people miss:
Adam called his wife "woman" and for a while, that's all she knew of her identity. She didn't know that she had an equal name in Adam. She didn't know she had a unique name that meant more than the common term "woman". She was uncovered, venerable to deception because she didn't know her full CALLING/IDENTITY.
Adam finally saw his mistake and called his wife her God pre-ordained name... EVE!
Immediately God Covered them both after Adam covered her with that glorious name.
---Legends on 3/11/10

Part 1
It's important to note that God didn't name Adam's wife. Adam did.
That doesn't take away the fact that people should call all created things after the counsel of God's pre-ordained will and not through mere human wisdom.
Example: It was man who called a dog "dog" or canine. But God created the canine family. Scripturally, it seems to me that mankind called or named dogs in harmony with God's will.
Secondly, when God calls, His call stands.
There is no plural form of the word "calling" found in Strongs Concordance. One Calling.
Ex. Before Adam took over naming things, God didn't call a river simply "river" one day then Euphrates a day later.
God's one call stood...
Euphrates!

Woman....She shall be called woman, because she was taken out of man. Genesis 2:23....At first, I really thought that this was trick question.

To Whosoever Has An Ear To Hear?

What did God name Adam's wife?

Brethren, God made woman, and if you choose to call WOMAN a name, then that would be what the Lord named Adam's wife : But It was Adam that called his wife Eve.

Gen.2:22And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

Gen.3:20 Adam called his wife's name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.
