The devil/demons lie as they please & distort the truth, unless God chooses to prevent them.
---Betty on 4/13/10

Lies are useless unless they are believable - that is, they contain enough truth to make them seem like the truth (in many cases the exact truth with the word 'not' inserted somewhere).

Nobody would eat poison if it tasted bad - it's usually mixed in with something good to mask the flavor, and deceive people into eating it. Lies are the same way.

Demons speak just enough truth to confuse people by in reality lying to them.

\\Answer: What door would the other Guard tell me is the door to freedom?\\

Alternative answer, "If I were to ask you if this were the door to freedom, would you say, 'Yes'?"

In Genesis 3:5--"For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as God, knowing good and evil": Now, in one sense, Satan's promises were true. Their eyes were opened, and they did know good and evil, but Not as God did! Thus, a half-truth presented as a whole truth is a lie.... How many people are liars today, in all walks of life? Come on Jesus.

Satan is a liar. He just distorts the truth.
...He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own {nature,} for he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:44 (NASB)

the devil doesn,t test you,he tempts you.he greatest weapon is your flesh, your logical mind,or the mind which trys to reason every situation,he misleads by distorting truth,or puffing up your pride.

Satan is the father of lies but he certainly knows the truth and you are no match for his legion.
Don't believe for a second he doesn't know the entire bible backwards and forwards.

Its much easier however to test you through the lust and other stuff that has been nailing guys forever. He sticks with what works.
Look at Congress this week. Is there anything new since David and Bathsheba?

This reminds me of the logic scenario.

A prisoner is in a cell with a door at either end.
One door leads to freedom and the other to certain death.
There as a guard at each door.
One guard always tell the truth, the other guard always lies.
The truthful guard knows the other guard always lies.
The prison most chose a guard and ask him one question pick a door and go though it.
That is the question the prisoner must ask?

Answer: What door would the other Guard tell me is the door to freedom? This forces a negative response from either guard and he choose the oppose door from what he is told which is the door to freedom.

The devil generally takes some form of the truth and puts his own little spin on it, like he did with Eve in the garden. He likes to cause us to question the goodness of God and focus on what God seems to be withholding from us instead of what He has given us. We all need to be careful when someone approaches us with some apparent truth asking us if God is being/has been good to us.

Jonathan, haven't you read what Jesus said about the devil? Let me quote Jesus if I may.

John 8:44 Ye are of [your] father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Good question, needs to be discussed. Yes the devil often speaks the truth. He speaks the truth to us when he tells us were no good everyperson who will be honest with themselves knows he's no good and realizes that the devil is telling him the truth in the fleshly realm. But under the realm of Jesus the realm of forgiveness(for we have been forgiven) accusations even though true should not bring guilt on us. Our actions today were known to God before the world begin yet he(praise his holy name) chose to save us by his sacrifice not our sacrifice for ours had no perfect righteousness to start from to achieve our forgiveness.
