How To Stop Sinning

I've been living the christian life for several years but as time goes by I found myself sinning and not being able to forgive myself. In the early days I could repent and find my joy quickly but now I feel condemned and miserable. Can anyone relate? What can i do to find my Joy again?

There is only one way to stop sinning. After believing in the redemptive work of Christ to stop sinning you must die.
---Harold on 2/28/11

If you feel condemned and miserable, that's probably a good sign. I think that would mean the Holy Spirit is working in your life.
---Tony on 2/23/11

As one gets closer and closer to G-d their sins become more exposed and self forgiveness becomes more and more difficult. They begin also to hate their lives on this world and find it miserable.

It is a sign fo a true Christain.

Look at Elijah, The Apostles, The Prophets, Moses.

you are countered righteous because you do good ? No , because you believe. You are the righteousness of Christ Jesus all the time because you believe . Grace my friend grace is ready for you . Father sees you as Jesus is :)

So why does the Miracle of incorruption of bodies of several saints happen only in the catholic church. There are more than 200 incorrupt bodies around the world. Is it because God has shown his approval to the catholic church only?

Check out some images and explanation of the in-corrupt bodies of catholic saints online

Question 56 of the Heidelberg Catechism states "What do you believe concerning the forgiveness of sins"? (answer) "That God, for the sake of Christ's satisfaction will no more remember my sins, nor the sinful nature with which I have to struggle all my life long, but graciously imputes to me the righteousness of Christ, that I may nevermore come into condemnation".---- Christ paid it all, look to Jesus and feed the Spirit within you.

"When you become born again you stop being responsible for your sinning"---mima on 4/10/10

Mima has clearly defined your problem in this statement, if you believe as Mima does.
Those who believe as Mima, take no responsibility for their sin, if they are not responsible, then they need not confess those sins.

Confession of one's sin is a vital part of the believers walk.
Confess and you will learn this Truth for yourself.(1John 1:7-9).

As for Mima's advice
(Jude 4)
For certain men whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.
---David on 9/10/10

[1].Pray to Our Lady(always) to obtain true contrition(all graces come thru Her intercession from Jesus.)(Apoc/Rev 8:3-4)
[2].Confess often(graces are obtained thru this to stop the sin confessed.Priest is an agent of its to Jesus that we confess.)John 20:21-23
[3].Receive the Holy Eucharist often(which is truly the body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus. The fruits of the sacrifice of calvary is applied to us when we receive the Eucharist (search the web for therealpresence and Eucharistic miracles around the world thru which God has revealed several times the real presence.)(John 6:48-52, 54-56, Matt.26:26-28, Luke 22:19-20, Mark 14:22-24).All believed this until the advent of Protestantism in the 16th century, now catholics does.

Regarding sinning repeatedly, Paul says in Romans 7:18 what does not work. Paul says, I will not to sin, but I sin anyway. He is saying our willpower or promise not to sin is futile. We must refuse resisting sin by our own struggles. When temptations come, we should pray, Lord Jesus I know I cannot resist this temptation, so I refuse to try. I depend on you to overcome it in me. Thank you Jesus. Amen. See Gal 2:20 also. His victory is effortless. We do not need to struggle or add an ounce of strength. We must not look to our own determination, which we we have found repeatedly to fail, but to Christ's strength in us. Willpower is of the flesh. Do not use it! Read "Not I but Christ", by Watchman Nee on Deliverance.

Duane, I pray thart God would breathe on the revelation He has placed in you so that it is not only real to you but becomes real to others.
---Linda on 6/19/10

How I wish I could proclaim the victory and power of the Cross and people would believe it. So many dont want to believe or know the good news of what Christ did for us. They just whitewash it so the Gospel has no power. They give the power to themselves. A prideful people.
Its kinda sad.
---duane on 6/19/10

Preach it, Duane!
---Linda on 6/18/10

In Adam all men are sinners.
If your in Christ, your set free from sin.
If you dont believe this, you have not heard the Gospel.
Yes, Jesus did take sin away. We have been made righteous. HIS death and ressurection did it all.
Now this is the reason for great joy.
We have a new life. Your joy comes with believing what HE has already done.
..By grace through faith..
The sin issue IS over.

Catherine, if you really feel as though God hates you, I would be interested in knowing why you think that. That one statement from you is probably the most honest I have ever heard you speak....and it reveals why you reflect the image of God you do. What comes out of the mouth is the abundance of the heart. Although I am not sure I expect you to answer someone as lowly as myself, I am sure now why your responses are what they are. You cannot give away what you have not received and a man/woman who thinks he/she is hated by God can do nothing more than give that away.

How To Stop Sinning:

Romans 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey, whether of sin unto death, or of OBEDIENCE unto righteousness?
---francis on 6/17/10

What is sin? To talk about "SIN" lets use Biblical definitions. Try these few.
1: Transgressing the law (1John3:4)
2: Unbelief (John16:8,9)
3: Blasphemy (Mark3:29)
So, are you STILL under the law that Jesus fullfilled on our behalf? Are you rejecting the gospel? Do you blaspheme the Holy Spirit? For Christians the answer to these question is..."NO".
---Haz27 on 6/8/10

We fail many times because we do not call on the Lord. The LORD does not force us to do things, we have to choose HIM and HIS ways ALL the time. But sometimes we are weak and satan comes subtly with his porridge and it is very tempting, if we forget to call the LORD JESUS at this point for extra strength, wisdom and zeal, we would fall. Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the Lord shall be saved AKJV. Even in the fallen state, as long as we have our breath, we should call on the Lord Jesus Christ, HE saves.
---Adetunji on 4/19/10

Robyn, we all must realize that sin has two catalysts. The first is thought. That is why we should ask the Holy Spirit to renew our mind. We need to change our mind to deal with the second.

The second is desire. There is no way that we have the will power to change any of our flesh's desire. Jesus is not our helper, Jesus is our Savior and Deliverance from the desire to sin.

So, I believe to stop sinning, we can try under our own will power or we can submit totally to the Savior. Remember, it is a delivery process, so it will take time, and, it is a life long process, so you will see some disappear and some may stick around til death do you part.

That was good robyn! But, as so many don't know about God. God will also use these sinning weaknesses as an opportunity to discipline the believer. To strengthen you. How miserable are God's disciplines? Pretty miserable. Ouch. Blackness permeates. Black tunnels, get me out. I can't stand this. I feel God hates me.
---catherine on 4/18/10

When you are tempted to sin, try your very best, with the help of the Lord, to resist this temptation. Really try! This feeling or temptation will pass, if you hold out. If not and you give in, you do tend to feel miserable and condemned. But you should immediately ask God to forgive you for your moment of weakness. We all have them. Try to remove yourself as far away from the temptation as possible.Resist and the devil will flee from you, according to the Word. But guess what? God already knows our weaknesses, faults and failings. Read all of the chapters of I John. This book was written to encourage and comfort Christians.Jesus is our helper. God loves us ,no matter what. Also read the story of the Prodigal son for encouragement.God bless u

Unlike most christian, they stop at their baptism. Today's christian, even after years after their baptism, say, "Is that all there is to christianity?"

Christians know that they must love, but most don't have a clue about HOW to love. First of all, you show you love God by doing his commandments and doing everything to glorify him.

Then you go out into the world and ACTIVELY apply what you learned. Do it on a daily basis. Let all the people you help know that you are a christian, but don't preach to them. You are planting a seed. Remember: if a person IS converted, it will wipe away a multitude of your sins.

Do this and you find your joy.
---Steveng on 4/17/10

First of all I just want to say, I do not know who these moderators are, but, I sure do thank God for them, Amen. Joy does not necessarily depend on your goodness, my friend. Your joy and peace however, does depend on your relationship with the living God. My only advice can be if you are truly saved, God will bring you back to Him. God is the one that will keep you happy. I am surprise, that, if you are truly saved, God would allow you to go on living in such misery, because He wants to use His people....One more thing: God, at times may not be as hard on us as we are on ourselves. God, is a convictor. He convicts you of your sins and then you receive forgiveness, and your joy should return...Good question.

Have faith that once you confess you sin, and ask God to forgive you, he will.
The Just shall live by Faith.

But if you find youself committing the same sins, with frequency, then an internal assessment is needed:

2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith, prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

Donna66 on 4/15/10 But what we really need to say, "Please help me not to do that ever again!"
I have never heard it put any better, God bless
---michael_e on 4/17/10

Micheal-e -- You are absolutely correct! We ARE already forgiven, for Christ finished His redemptive work on the Cross. He could not be crucified again, so His sacrifice was fully efficient to pay for all sins, even those not yet committed.

The need for "repentance" is our realization that we have done what made our Savior die in the first place.
It's humbling to realize that even before we thought to sin, even before we were born, God forgave our transgression because of Jesus. Since we love Him, our impulse is to say, "Oh,I'm SO sorry, Lord!"
But what we really need to say, "Please help me not to do that ever again!"
---Donna66 on 4/15/10

Every sin that you ever have or will commit, has been forgiven if you have accepted the finished work of the cross. If you sin you know it,acknowledge your sin, forgive yourself, He already has, and go on with a victorious life.

1 Cor. 15:3 Christ died for our (ALL) sins according to the scriptures,

Col.2:13 And you, being dead in your sins ... he made alive with him, having forgiven you ALL trespasses,

Repent and ask for the Holy Spirit of God to lead you & direct you. Keep praying and asking for Him until you hear from Him.
---Betty on 4/15/10

Hi, Toby...What can you do to find your Joy again?

Let Jesus till up the soil and replant the Seed that did not mature for whatever reason. Ask Christ to replace your emotional joy with Joy from the fruit of the Spirit. (Go ahead and ask him for the other fruit too. :~)

If you want to stop sinning, you will have to die. However, since this is not practical right now, die to yourself and let the Spirit strengthen and guide you until your flesh gives up the Ghost.

The Scripture says that you will account for EVERY idle word. Every means every...past, present, and future. We cannot afford and do not have to pay for our sin...past, present, and future. However, as disciples,we are responsible to each other and our God.
---aka_joseph on 4/12/10

Toby -- Here is one thing to consider that may, or may not, apply to you.

AS we grow in the Lord, our concept of "sin" often expands to include things we never thought of before.

For example, at first we might say "well, I've been guilty of lying and taking the Lord's name in vain". We repent. Our outward behavior improves.

But much later, a co-worker gets the promotion we worked so hard for. We begin to dislike him (tho he's done nothing wrong). We realize our attitude is "sinful", but repentance is not as simple as it used to be.

Recognize that this represents spiritual growth. Praise God. Realize HE is able to give you victory over THIS sin too. HE hasn't given up on you.

"What can i do to find my Joy again?"
Enter into the kingdom of God, yield, and abide there. For within that superimposed reign of the Father's Spirit, is an empowered submission to that reign. There lies "righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit."
"What can 'I' do?" Give Satan no place thru the embracing of doubt or fear.

toby, while we live in the world, jesus tells us not to be of the world.realizing that our peace, our joy, comes from knowing God,knowing that our blessings, our treasures, are in relationship with him, these things are whats important.remember what jesus told pilate,MY KINGDOM IS NOT OF THIS WORLD.toby, dear brother, heres what you need to ALWAYS REMEMBER,God forgives a repentent sinner, and yes you arent worthy, and never will be,but Gods word says you are FORGIVEN,that is your anchor brother.Your joy is in KNOWING this fact.Fear, and doubt are normal human feelings, but thank God salvation was given by jesus, and this gift has defeated sin and death and given eternal life to those who believe.

The Bible answers this question. In 1ST John 3:9,
"Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin, for his seed remaineth in him: AND HE CANNOT SIN , because he is born of God."

When you become born again you stop being responsible for your sinning, because the Spirit of God remains in the one born of God.

Carefully study the Bible verse mentioned.
---mima on 4/10/10

What enabled the woman taken in adultery to "go and sin no more" was the "neither do I condemn thee" spoken by the mouth of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus spent the time she was in front of him revealing how He was going to deal with sin by humbling Himself, being lifted up, being buried, and then being lifted up again in resurrection power. The gospel is the power of God unto salvation to them that BELIEVE, not them that BEHAVE. You are a new creature in Christ. The old man of sin is dead. The problem you are having is your mind not yet renewed to the truth of His complete and finished work. The work of Christ does not fix up an old man. It does away with him. When you believe it, you will see it.

Whenever I was down, my former mentor told me this verse sometimes 1 John 1:9- If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to purify us from all unrighteousness.

Of course, we shouldn't take advantage of His grace. We should try our best to follow him, and sometimes we even need to ask him for forgiveness for taking advantage of His grace and not trying our best? Hope this helps. God Bless.

Toby: Your enemy, the devil, goes all over the earth (like a roaring lion) looking for people to destroy. He's the one who tells you you're condemned & causes you to feel miserable.

While living in the flesh, all Christians sin sooner or later. God has made a way out of the torment of personal sin. Repent! Go to God in prayer as quickly as you know you've sinned & ask God to forgive you. Don't put yourself in His place. When He forgives, that settles it & you need to forgive yourself!

To find your joy read, study & meditate on God's word (the Bible) constantly. Speak to yourself in psalms & hymns & spiritual songs, singing & making melody in your heart to the Lord...

God bless, peace!!! :)
---Leon on 4/9/10

The word says, If you walk by the Spirit, you won't carry out the desires of the flesh.

Walking by the Spirit means walking by the Word of God and the Spirit of God. Jesus said, "My words, they are Spirit and they are life."

As you grow in the Lord Jesus, you will sin less and less. How much time do you spend in God's word? Studying it? Do a word study on the word Joy.

Romans 8:1 says, There is therefore now NO condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free from the law of sin and death. If God isn't condemning you, why condemn yourself? Ask God to show you how to do this. Pray and talk to God about all of this, okay? He'll guide you into all truth.
