Saved Versus Conversion

Cluny said (and I believe him): There's a difference between being saved and a conversion experience. What is the difference? So is it one or the other or both that are needed for salvation?

I once had the following experience. As I walked out of a motel room in South Texas I started to witness to a man sitting in his car. When I told him I was a Christian he stopped me in midsentence and said, I could see that when you stepped out of your room. Later I found out he was a Christian also!!

How it is that he was able to see you as a christian once you wanted out the room, and you were unable to see him as a christian sitting in his car? ( he asked with a grin)
---francis on 4/29/10

Cluny is correct. I know many people who are saved. I know very few people who have experienced conversion. When you meet a person who has experienced conversion. You'll immediately notice it, you may be drawn to him or her and always their conversation will center on Christ. It is the people who've experienced conversion that I most often feel a "kindred" spirit with.

MarkV....How different?
---catherine on 4/29/10

Conversion can be a point by point issue, or doctrine by doctrine issue.

Example:
Luke 22:32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

In this instance, jesus is asking for peter to have a change of mind (converted) about one issue.

It is like that with all christians. Although we in general accept John 3:16,17 and Ephesians 2:8 yet on many issues we have not yet have a change of mind ( been converted).

salvation is conversion is grander scale.
To where we change our mind about God and accept jesus as our saviour

Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Catherine, the past few weeks you have been speaking so differently. Are you the same person from a month ago? Are you the same Catherine? Or is someone else using that name? I understood the other one perfectly, now I am not sure who you are.
---MarkV. on 4/29/10

You are an hard-core unbeliever. Words that I picked-up from God face to face. You had better stop making fun of God's Blood. And Hell is no joke. I asked God to forgive me of all my sins, and He did....I don't know if hardcore is even in the Bible, however, those are the very words which God gave to me, face to face. Now, He may use different words in the Bibe, means the same thing.

Maybe this is just a play on words. God chose His children before the formation of the Worlds.Call it what you want but at the time that you begin to believe in and have faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and committ to Him and repent, then at that time you have acknowledged to GOD that you know that you are HIS.At that time you promise to Him that you will try to increase. It is that FAITH that saves and it is FAITH working through LOVE that causes growth. God wants us to desire the"meat" of His word rather than rehashing salvation, repentance, rituals or baptism (according to the Word).Yes, God has an elect or chosen people and HE can/will cause them to stand as long as they chose faith.Bc they are His, they will choose faith.

Candice, baptism is not salvation. It is an act we do to show our committment to Christ. When you are born of the Spirit you are spiritually baptize into one body in Christ. That baptism is literal. The one you do under any church is to show you committment that you have committed your life to Christ. It symbolizes death and resurrection. Symbolic. Not literal. Literal is whe you are born of the Spirit. Welcome to the body of Christ.
I do remember that you had told us you were a Jehovah Witness at one time, I am assuming you are not anymore is that correct?
---MarkV. on 4/25/10

My true being "saved" was my 2nd baptisim. YES my 2ND! The first one I didn't know at the time, but do know now it was more based on membership at that baptist church,to be accepted & I'm not the only one who has done this. However my second one in Sept 2007 was done for real & for God & I didn't need to join the elders church whom baptized me! Now 2 years later for the past 8months I have been in bible studies with a congregation & I am reading into the bible like I am seeing & understanding for the first time. I feel I am a child of God now.

ian_noble_tucker -- is this the verse you had in mind?
Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

For the Christian, I see salvation and conversion as being one and the same. Conversion is:
1.A change in which one adopts a new religion, faith, or belief.
2. Something that is changed from one use, function, or purpose to another. Conversion can occur between any one religion and another. But salvation implies the imparting of eternal life by Jesus.
By the same process (salvation) the person has been changed in function, purpose and loyalty. These changes often are not observed immediately.

As I have maintained [already] conversion and salvation are the same thing. I took the liberty of looking it up.....Conversion>>>The initial change of attitude and will that brings a person into right relationship with God. Repentance is turning from sin, faith is turning to God. Conversion is more than the exchange of one set of beliefs for another. It is a wholehearted turning to God, Sometimes referred to as the new birth. Always a clear change of attitude and a new direction for life. See>>>John 3:3-8]

what is the bible verse in Romans that states if you believe and accept that Jesus died for your sins you will be saved. I know its in Romans
---ian_noble_tucker on 4/22/10

You're only confirming what I was sharing about them not being God's Children Sealed with the Holy Spirit of Promise and at the same time you DISPROVED your own earlier clam that "no where is he saying that all who departs had never been Christians. -- Ruben 4/20/10", The antichrists are not Christian !!!!!

--Shawn.M.T on 4/22/10

The point I was making is that,(Which I know I did a lousy job)he is not saying that all who depart from the faith, had never been Christians before, because prior before he mentions to the (us) that they could lose thier justification if they do not keep the commandments (1 Jhn 2:2-5)

Donna5535, just believing is not good enough.
"His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made (mankind), even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they (mankind) are without excuse."
So just knowing there is a God is not good enough, it only reveals the wrath of God from heaven against them.
One has to be born of the Spirit in order to be converted to the image of Christ. And that only comes by the Spirit who brings life to those who are lost.
As far as Cluny's salvation is concern only God knows if he is born of the Spirit.
---MarkV. on 4/21/10

Your Salvation occurred when God selected you to be among the Elect and that was prior to creation [Ephesians Ch 1]. Your conversion experience is when you realized it during your life time.
---Friendly_Blogger on 4/21/10

Getting saved is getting saved. Getting saved in being converted over from not being saved, from being non-religious, from being a non believer at all, from the Man-made relig org's churches, from being an atheist etc.

Many of us(Christians) will be saved by the skin of our teeth. These are those who have little conversion or growth. You can be a hearer of the word and be saved but one who experiences conversion will be both a hearer of the word and a doer of the word.
---mima on 4/21/10

saved or being born again is a belief, and exceptance of who christ is,what he did,and the need we all have for salvation thru him. Conversion can be a process which can take time, much like santification,or it can be a quick process as was with Paul.
---tom2 on 4/21/10

Cluny is wrong! A true conversion is salvation. Mine was pretty dramatic. Not all conversions are exactly alike....I received all three of these main essentials. God's Blood shooting up me, His voice, and God also, flashed hell right infront of me.
---catherine on 4/21/10

I personally believe that any "salvation" without conversion is nothing more than a bad case of the warm fuzzies. True salvation will bring about conversion in the recipient, whether they have been a "basically good" person all their life or been a vile, sinful person. A good person will become better in Jesus Christ, and a bad person will become a new person. Scripture says that none of us are really good, even though some would dare to think of themselves so, we all need Jesus Christ.
