I see the story of Joseph parallels Romans 11.

Joseph is rejected by His Brethren and sold. Joseph then goes to the gentiles. Through Joseph, the Gentiles who worship and honor Joseph's GOD are blessed.

Then Israel, being in a vulnerable position go to Egypt. When his brethren learn who Joseph is, they mourn. Joseph forgives his brethren, stating that all that happened had to take place. Then, through the blessings of the Gentiles, ISRAEL is blessed.

Just some of the parallels.

Many Bible Stories in Genesis pointing Christ. The spiritual meaning were mostly salvation. The bible has two fold meaning.

In the life of Joseph He was sold to slavery..like Christ he was sold 30 pieces of silver and became slave of death. Joseph become governor during the great famine for seven years to feed all the hungry people. But most important reason He was there so the House of Jacob (seeds) will survive physically.

What similarities will you see in picture of Christ? Jesus too sold in died in order for the sake of Elect. He too the source of bread and water for the hungry people ...spiritually.

The trouble with "types" in Scripture is that it is SO easy to take them way too far.
There were, of course, many, many differences between Joseph and Christ!

According to Jewish oral Tradition (Mishnah). They believe that there were two Messiahs.

The Joseph Messiah and the Davidic Messiah.

The Joseph Messiah was describe in Isaiah 53.... The Suffering Servant.

The Davidic Messiah was the returning King and Conqueror.

I believe the greatest lesson in the account of the life of joseph is forgiveness.

\\Cluny, please give scripture references for where the Orthodox church is mentioned in the bible and where Jesus or anyone in the bible called Monday, Tues, Wed a HOLY day!

I know the Sabbath is called Holy, but that's on Friday. Please give scripture reference for HOLY MONDAY. Tks!!!\\

Please tell us where the word "Bible" is mentioned in the Bible.

"Orthodox" is just a label we use so outsiders can find us.

Our names to ourselves are the Church of Christ, the Church of Jesus, Church of God, and all other names used in the New Testament--which we wrote to start with, and not the building you attend.

Francis-- I deliberately did NOT say that Joseph was a "type" of Christ. There is a reason I said only "there are parallels".
(I personally do not take him as a type of Christ).

Both were tempted, but without sin
---Donna66 on 5/21/10

HMM i thought ALL had sinned?
Ok i know what you mena, joseph did not commit adultery when he had the choice.

But if ALL have sinned, joseph must be included

Thatis why no human can by a type of christ.
ALL have sinned, none have died for sins.

Only lambs (cattle) are truely be types of christ, they die because of other peoples sins.

There are certainly many parallels.

Both were especially loved by their father
Not believed by their brothers
Rejected by their own
Both were unjustly sold see Gen 37:28 and Mat 26:15

Both were tempted, but without sin
And falsely accused
Suffered unjustly. Joseph in prison, Jesus on the cross
Forgave those who sinned against him
Were promoted to a high position full of glory
Both returned to their father when their work was done.

Joseph played a vital role in the preservation of the Hebrew people....He is one of the most attractive of Old Testament characters. He maintained his trust in the Lord in spite of suffering unjustly. And he consistently made choices which honored God. As for God's people of today....Well, well, well. We are lacking. Either, there is too much pretense, too much fear, not in obedience, because of too many obligations, like family friends, etc, results in having too little time for God....If you think you are going to get to heaven. do not count the family farm on it. My friends.

Me personally, do not see any human being as a type of christ, the closest I come is an unblmished lamb.

The priest to me are not type of christ, but intercesors of christ.

But remember this is my personal opinion, it is not any known doctrine of any church I know.

I just think to be a type of chrst, you must die.

\\Remind me again please what is the Orthodox church? Is that the only place Joseph was commemorated?

And may I please ask WHY Monday is Holy?

I've never heard of HOLY Monday...what does that mean?

Is there a Holy Tuesday, Wednesday, Thurs?

Joseph is commemorated on Holy Monday in the Orthodox Church, where his innocent suffering is seen as a figure of Christ.
