GALATIANS 2:16 KNOWING that a man is not justified by the WORKS OF THE LAW,but by the faith Of JESUS CHRIST,even we have believed in JESUS CHRIST, that we might be justified by the faith of CHRIST,and NOT BY THE WORKS of the law,For by the works of the law SHALL NO flesh be justified ( CHRIST DID THE WORK ON THE CROSS)

(Confirmation - Penance)
MATTHEW 15:9 BUT in vain they do worship me, TEACHING for doctrines the commandments of men.
---RICHARD on 8/3/10

\\Recently a prominent Catholic had this to say about his religion,"We believe the sacrifice of Christ atones for our original sin, but the actual sins of our lives need to be purged by good works\\

And can you give us the name of this "prominent Catholic," mima?

And when and where this person said this?

I've noticed you're not very good on specifics like this.

Why?
---Cluny on 7/17/10

Confirmation. God knows. Also he & or she that endures to the end, the same shall be saved.
---Lawrence on 6/28/10

Yeah, Lawrence. Give us endurance Lord.
James 2:13-15
14What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
15If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
For Linda:
James 5:15
And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up, and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

Recently a prominent Catholic had this to say about his religion,"We believe the sacrifice of Christ atones for our original sin, but the actual sins of our lives need to be purged by good works, obedience to the Church, and at last by the fires of purgatory, which are more or less severe and lengthy, according to the circumstances and actions of the person in this life, from which he is ultimately liberated by the intercession of Mary."

I believe you alls test, I chose penance, and I was wrong. So I have to say, "none of the above"....Only one thing as follows is essential to Salvation, and that is, THE BLOOD. Do you have it? Hallelujah, Thank You Jesus++

\\Eternal rituals and outward forms of godliness will not save you. God looks into our Hearts.\\

The so-called "sinner's prayer" is itself a ritual and outward form.

\\Received Christ in your heart!\\

And how do you determine that someone has done this thing that is nowhere in the Bible?

\\Believe Jesus paid for your sins on the Cross & erased your sins\\

In other words, think yourself saved and you are.
---Cluny on 7/10/10

Well, aka.joseph . . . one thing I'm considering is that sacraments can have a lot of attention to the outward show and even very set outward appearance and form. So, I can see sacraments can be a conformist outwardly adorning thing, like how women can adorn themselves outwardly, but not with the "incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God." And ones can depend on outward-showing form, instead of first dealing with how to be pleasing spiritually to our Father.
---Bill_bila5659 on 7/10/10

Eternal rituals and outward forms of godliness will not save you. God looks into our Hearts.

Rituals don't prove there is a changed life or heart. Faith in Jesus means:

You Repent of your sins.

Received Christ in your heart!

Believe Jesus paid for your sins on the Cross & erased your sins.
---SQ on 7/8/10

Bill_bila5659, i can see how the verse that you chose could apply, but considering the surrounding verses, how does inside v. outside adornment fit with this question?

Is yours a nice way of sayin', "mind your own busineess!"? :~)

or

Are you sayin' that salvation is an individual heart issue with God?
---aka.joseph on 7/7/10

A. but because we are so inept in every way, Jesus did it all for us. Since Jesus did it all for us, then B. We cannot acheive or improve on that which is perfected in Him.
---aka.joseph on 7/7/10

While reading the answers another question arose. How many of these sacraments did the thief on the cross (who was promised paradise by the Lord Jesus Christ) engage in.
---mima on 7/1/10

Christ did it all, for our salvation, we must accept it 1Cor. 15:1-4 The finished work of the Cross
The reason everyone doesn't have salvation is due to UNBELIEF
What do you think you can do to recieve salvation, that Christ hasn't already done?
---michael_e on 6/30/10

Repentence is essential to salvation...Yes, Jesus did the work, but we must ACCEPT Him and what He did for us at the Cross if we are to receive salvation, amen?

So those who are answering nothing, that is not true.

So if nothing has to be done because Jesus did it all, then how come everyone doesn't have salvation yet?

How come only those of us who have accepted what Jesus did for us, repented of our sins, received the blood of Jesus for remission of our sins so that we could be saved.
---Donna5535 on 6/30/10

B. none of the above
Christ did it all, for our salvation, we must accept it
---michael_e on 6/29/10

C. Obeying every Commandment of Christ.
---Eloy on 6/29/10

The answer is B none of the above.

Because God chose you prior to the beginning of the creation process. All Sacraments and works are a result of salvation not a precondition for salvation.
---Friendly_Blogger on 6/28/10

If you add anything to the finished paid in full works of Jesus on the Cross you have diminished what he accomplished for you therefore shame on you for diluting his blood and watering it down with your own works which are like filthy rags in comparison. Baptism is for identification not Salvation!

"Isaiah 64:6 our righteous acts are like filthy rags".

There is none righteous no not one!

All have sinned and fallen short.

"rather let it be the hidden person of the heart,
with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit,
which is very precious in the sight of God." (1 Peter 3:4)

I agree with Cluny. In the strict sense of the phrase, no Holy Sacrament or Holy Mystery, as Eastern Christians calls them, is absolutely require for salvation, as God can save whosoever he wises. However, this does not mean we are not bound by His Mysteries or that God did not initiated these Holy Mysteries or even worst, that the Sacramentology of the Eastern Churches is erroneous.

In IC.XC.,
---Ignatius on 6/28/10

A.
Baptism. Mark 16 v 16, Acts 2 v's 37 - 41 which Fulfills Matt.28 v's 19 - 20.

Communion. Jesus said, as oft as you do it, do
in remembrance of me.

Penance or confession. Which is to God. But if you wronged some one, you need to go to that person. If that person wont hear you, then take it to the Pastor.

Confirmation. God knows. Also he & or she that endures to the end, the same shall be saved.
---Lawrence on 6/28/10

God is not limited to the sacraments, but Christ initiated them for US, so we will KNOW that God has acted through them.

I realize that there are some who try to be more spiritual than God, but He invented them.
