What exactly is righteous judgement and how do we as Christian go about doing that when we are told not to judge our brothers since every servant stands or falls to his own Master?

righteous judgment is fair, impartial and equal.however, prejudice is unfair, is partial and is unequal. that's the kind of judging Jesus is talking about. We are to love our neighbor righteously as ourself and have no respect of persons based upon their social class, race, or color. No one can judge righteously if he or she is prejudice. As a matter of truth, Jesus himself was partial to certain classes of people such as the poor and children and actually condemned those such as the rich who thought they were better than the poor or lower classes. I think the Lord meant don't judge unfairly, which would be prejudice.

Romans 14:17 "For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost."
Meat, drink, esteemed days should not lead to "doubtful disputations".

Other things carry judgement, "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived:..."
Paul severed ties with a few. We have Matthew 18. Jesus said, Luke 12:14,57 "And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you? Yea, and why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?"

Judge we must but condemn and lord over another over trivial things we should not.
Righteous judgement requires knowledge of "righteousness" (1 John 3:7).

Simply using the word of god to see if you are wrong in the way you live or if you are living according to God's word, the bible is your handbook, when people say you did not come with a handbook Well WE did!

Dear Darline,
I know this is a little late but here goes,
Righteous judgment is speaking does not prohibit all types of Judging because we are told in (v. 7:16)
"you will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?"
Here is an example of righteous judgment that we are suppose to exercise with careful discernment (John 7:24).
Censorious, hypocritical, self righteous or other kinds of unfair judgments are forbidden, but in order to fulfill the commandments that follow, it is necessary to discern dogs from swine (v. 7:6) from one's own brethren (v. 7:3-5). Agape

The bible says we will know the heart by what comes out of the mouth. If you fellowship with people and talk to them you will either find out they are saved, not saved or wonder which, if the person is not speaking in condemnation of God or the Word of God but never prays or speaks good of God, such as God is Good and ect, then he could be a great guy that just has not committed himself to Jesus, seems a talk of salvation is due. Most other people will fall into these three categories, and will profess one way or another with the their language and what they talk about. In other words take time to get to know someone before you make a judgement, that is how you know the heart, not by their looks or where they live.

We must judge doctrines and actions. We look at results and so much must be judged. But we cannot judge hearts. Too many people assume what another is thinking and that gets us in trouble. We do not know all that is going on in another person's life.

We may judge without prejudice actions. Which is righteous but not hearts which belongs to GOD alone.
---Samuelbb7 on 11/5/13

all respect Millie thankyou got to say I agree. situations faith really going be put to test! must stand up! for the Lord, seen evil satan' uses"iligitimate imitation" I call it! everything that glitters is not gold!"Let people know where you stand. You can not hardly be in peace, alot of substance abuse. I was raised not to look down on nobody as a christian sometimes I found you better off just take a stand in a calm voice be adament, judge (mentally) be carefull not be "swept in" people who abuse drugs, we want to help but, better let the Lord lead them. Some people have to hit rock bottom to clean themselves up! God loves them, but you can not let them (run you "ragged or insane").
---Lidia4796 on 11/4/13

no disrespect. I find that hard to believe. living in a sin sick world. I feel we must judge
---Millie on 11/1/13

Really, the only people in this world that qualifies to judge are God's people. Read, further....1 Timothy 3:10, These men must also first be tested, then let them serve as deacons. If they are beyond reproach. Explain: Proved. like, [has he really been saved]? And behavior. A new convert cannot be grounded and must not be thrust into prominence. Now, John 7:24. Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment. Explain: Christ tells them to stop judging on the surface. Judge righteous judgment. You know the way I look at it, everyone judges. Most are doing it WRONG.
---catherne on 8/29/10

"What exactly is righteous judgement?"
The only righteous judgement is the the judging of self, to discern ones own inward thoughts, motives and actions, using the "word of God" as the standard.

1 Corinthians 4:5
Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

I have to agree here too with Rob on 8/3/2010. We must know the Word of God, and not compromise His Word. Paul tells us everyone will be judged according the Gospel. The Gospel is Genesis to Revelation...The First and Last, Beginning and End alpha and omega.

How can anyone judge righteous (ONLY Christ is Righteous) when they can't rightly divide the Word of Truth?
---kathr4453 on 8/6/10

Richard, in the context Paul was speaking to Jews. Many were claiming to be of the linage of Abraham, so he mentioned that only if they were circumcize of the heart they were real Jews of the Seed. Paul declared, "And they (individuals) Jewish people also, if they do not continue in unbelief, will be grafted in "
Now, the same circumcism of the heart is also for Gentiles. But they become the spiritual seed of Abraham, the Israel of God, not Jews. Gentiles do not turn to Jews. There is an Israel of the flesh (1 Cor. 10:18) and an "Israel of God" (Gal. 6:16) is made up of Jewish people and Gentiles who believe the Messiah.

None of us are "righteous" wherein we can judge righteously. Only God (Father, Son & Holy Spirit) is RIGHTEOUS. So, we're to judge people & circumstances based upon what God, by His word alone, says.
---Leon on 8/5/10

ROB - MARK MAYBE I got this mix up here, But let's go over this, ROMANS 2:29 --which is a JEW inwardly -- and that is circumcision of the Heart ( and that is the circumcision of when God gives a believer a new heart, inwardly,Then GOD considers them a JEW. Now God dose this to JEW and Gentiles that he plans to save.ROMANS 2:28 NOT a JEW outwardly --- This is that people that just follow Law and try to be save by there works. this is what happen in old testament, I could probably get the verses for this but it would take awhile. Thanks RICK

Judging one another rightly is not a choice: but judging one another rightly is God's commandment. Please read Ezekiel 33:7-9+ John 7:24.
---Eloy on 8/5/10

Darline, the righteous judgment we can do is one that glorifies Christ. If it glorifies us, it is the wrong judgment. It's the intend of the heart that counts. And in many cases, it is to glorify the person who is judging you, making themselves look good.

Richard, Rob is correct in what he stated. All of it. You said. Romans 2:28, 29, comes with the whole context. First he is speaking to Jews, because in v. 24 says, "For, "the name of God is blsphemed among the Gentiles because of you, as it is written" and he goes on to tell them that if they are circumcize and break the law, their circumcision is uncircumcision. In order to be of the seed of Abraham they have to be circumcize from the heart, that is a real Jew.

Mans' definition of "righteous judgement" is not so spiritually important as GODS' definition. Mans' definition is that when someones' misbelief is so seriously misguided, they should be corrected (gently/diplomatically and RIGHTLY). However, God looks at the heart (there will be many Christians in the city of God that are ignorant/'stupid').

MANS' definition is secondary and not really important, it is GODS' definition that we should really care about (it is His WILL/DESIRE and we should UNDERSTAND it, not READ IT).

Ephesians 5:17
"Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is".

Excellent question!!
What is righteous judgment?

Darlene, who is a righteous Judge?
Jesus Christ
But why is Jesus Christ a righteous judge?
Because he was without sin, and will not be hypocritical in his judgment.
What does this mean?

Have you ever told a lie?
If you have, how can you call someone else a Liar, how can you fairly judge that person to be a Liar, when you yourself are a Liar?
Jesus Christ was not a Liar, so he can Judge all Liars, and those guilty of adultery, murder, stealing, etc. because Jesus was perfect.

When we judge others, our judgment should be as an imperfect sinner, not as the Perfect Judge.

-- Darlene_1 :

***What exactly is righteous judgment and how do we as Christian go about doing that when we are told not to judge our brothers***

Sister, Judge not according to appearance, b/c every Saint has a past and every sinner has a future !!!

It's not for us to past judgment on one another nor do we need to, b/c they will stand or fall to whatever master they serve. We're to open our mouth, pleading the cause of the poor & needy of spirit, by making the Righteous Judgment of spreading the Gospel.
---Shawn.M.T on 8/4/10

Richard, God does not consider all believers to be JEWS even if they are GENTILES. Please read what is written in Galatians 2:11-16.

A judgment is the finding of something as being good or bad. If it is good, encourage it. If not, then our actions in response should be helpful or corrective. It they can't be so, there's nothing further to do.
---ger.toshav on 8/3/10

JUST FOR the sake of discussion, let's say you had the power to send people to hell for any reason. Do you like having that power?...or do you have a peaceful, gentle, and holy demeanor/spirit? In fact, depending on which verse/verses you choose, you can even find yourself as having the RESPONSIBILITY to judge others....BUT, if you say to God....

"God, I know I have the right,...and even the responsibilty to judge others, but I find that I simply CANNOT DO THAT"....then He will say "You have passed the test, now you have a spirit of holiness that is compatible with mine". THAT is GODS' DEFINITION of righteous judgement (a spirit of MERCY).

It's not the book or rules that make a person holy (Romans 8:16).
---more_excellent_way on 8/4/10

ROB - GOD Considers all Believers JEWS even if there Gentiles
ROMANS 2:28 For he is not a
Jew, which is outwardly, neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh.
ROMANS 2:29 But he is a JEW inwardly: and circumcision is that of the heart.in the spirit, and not in the letter.whose praise is not of men.but of GOD.
---RICHARD on 8/3/10

Not all judgment is forbidden. The judgment that seems to be forbidden is judgment of the heart. Only God can know the heart. However, there are plenty of examples of judgment in the NT. In fact, Paul used language to describe certain people that would not be tolerated here!

Darlene, using righteous judgement involves many things, and it does not just happen.

Many people will use what is written in Matthew 7:1-2, telling people "WHO ARE THEY TO JUDGE", but they avoid what is written in Matthew 7:3-5.

Using righteous judgement involves knowing what scripture has to say in the true context which it is written.

This involves following the instruction found in 2 Timothy 2 :14-19, the example found in Acts 17:11, along with studying the scriptures, asking and answering the questions, WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, WHY, AND TO WHOM.

Some scripture was written for Jews, some scripture was written for Gentiles, other scripture was written for both Jew and Gentile.

There are Judgements and matters of responsibility the require discernment and the later is a responsible christian action. If you have been elected or appointed to a position of ecclesiastical responsibility you are expected to make decisions in association to holding the position. And in general I will classify decision in to two dominant areas, there are of course others but I consider these primary.

1. Protection of the flock, from Heresy, Exploitation, insuring Integrity and Good Name of the flock.

2. Asset utilization, those decisions that determine how assets of the flock are utilized monetary, non monetary including time. What projects do you approve and what projects are disapproved for the expenditure of group resources.
