CLUNY: NO, I do not believe in salvation by works but I do believe that as a result of being given salvation, I want to live a life in harmony with God's will.
As to the question as why God keeps a record of our lives let me say that it serves to confirm God's justice and fairness in the matter. That's why God has set side 1000 yrs(the millenium) for us to judge/audit his judgment so when it is all said and done it will be clear that God was fair in the judgment and everybody gor what he/she wanted to get, either eternal life or eternal destructon.

To rightly reward the righteous and rightly condemn the wicked.

||The purpose of the final judgment is to examine the life-record of every individual to determine...||
For whose benefit is this "examination" or "determination" made?
You think God doesn't already know?
**whether or not he/she hs lived a life in harmony with God's wll, demonstrating his/her gratitude for the gift.**
In other words, you believe in salvation by works.
---Cluny on 8/15/10|
The purpose of the final judgment is to examine the life-record of every individual to determine whether or not he/she has accepted or rejected the gift of salvation by grace made available to everyone and whether or not he/she hs lived a life in harmony with God's wll, demonstrating his/her gratitude for the gift. Finally it will also consider how much we shared the Good News with others!

in short, To show God's glory

"What is the purpose of the final judgment?"
The purpose is to determined, through just examination, and to decree the fate of the dead, as those not found written in the book of life.
Those who refused, for reasons that are beyond me, to embrace life in Christ, and are found indisputably guilty under the law, will be deprived of life on any level of existence, which is the second death.
Therefore, "Do not fear those who kill the body, but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to 'destroy'-to put out of the way entirely, abolish, put an end to,- both soul and body in 'hell'-"geenna", the lake of fire.

Do not be deceived, my friend. If you are lost you are already judged, and sentenced. You are only awaiting for the execution of that setence....GOD'S BLOOD CAN SAVE YOU!---The final judgment is a task given specifically to God's Son [John 5:22, Acts 17:31], to conclude His work as mediator, deliver His people from sin [I think this means we are out of this world won't have to put-up with it anymore], And to destroy God's enemies....THE DEATH AND RESURRECTION OF JESUS are the foundations on which sinners are saved [Isa. 53:5] through their trust in Him as Lord and Savior....His wrath on that day will be like a consuming fire [Isa. 10:16, Ezek. 15:6] and others.

To show US where we've failed or succeeded.
How far or how close we were to the mark in our lives.
** YHWH God not Jesus **
Actually, Jesus IS YHVH made flesh, but this has been discussed on another blog.
And Jesus Himself said that all judgement has been given to Him.

DANIEL 12:2 AND many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

No one can go the Heaven or be eternally separated from God until they are judged. And none of that happens until the resurrection of the dead and there is only one resurrection it is a mass event for all who have ever lived.
On Christ's return and the creation of the new Earth and New Jerusalem. YHWH God not Jesus will implement his Habitat for Eternity project and the heavenly mansions will be ready for accommodations for all of God's pre chosen elect.

The purpose of any judgment is to correct wrongs and put things right. In the final judgment, God will correct all uncorrected wrongs, and put all things right again, in order that everyone in the universe may be reconciled to him and to each other, and God will be All in all. (1.Cor 15)
