If "all" mankind is called as you say, wouldn't the verse say,
"All are called but few are chosen?"

Matthew 24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place,

Luke 21:20 And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.

REFERENCE TEXT:
Daniel 11:31 And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.

Now what abomination made israel, and the sanctuary desolate for 70 weeks/years?If only the BIBLE told us.

One interesting commentary I read regarding this subject is that: If you look up the meaning of the word "temple" as used in this Passage, it does not, in Hebrew (check a Concordance, etc.), mean the same as a stone temple that Saints, etc. gather in for worship. It is actually, according to this article, referring to the physical body of the Anti-Christ. Just as Saints are called "temples" of the Holy Spirit, and as YAHUSHUA (JESUS) called His Body a "Temple" in JOHN 2:19. So the physical body of the Anti-Christ will also be a "temple", but, will be used by and inhabited by Satan, or at least, by a high-ranking demon or devil. Makes sense to me.

The words themselves means that a disgusting, detestable, idolatrous image utterly pollutes and 'lays waste' [to pure worship is implied], as an act of plundering.
One will be set up through the deception of it's presence to cause the idolatrous worship of a false God.
Souls will be so astonished and stupefied by it's presence that by reason of it's deception they will be separated from the truth, robbed of faith, mentally afflicted and corrupted through it's false prodigy.

//we aren't trying to put it out either. //

well, there are those who are trying. some believe that they have the power, and it is up to them now that they say, "Lord, Lord..."

a nail was put into one holy foot, but they refuse to harm the other. thus, they run around in circles saying, "Lord , Lord..." translated as "bahahaha, bahaha".

Let pin-the-tail on the abomination continue.

(personally, i don't think it is one person, but rather a system of many people, organizations, and events over many generations that bring desolation to what little we know of Truth.
... we get a ring side seat to the Obamanation of desolation, but he did not start the fire. ..---aka on 9/3/10

Aka, you're on punny roll. Got a good laugh from your pin the tail, and ring side seat.
Agree with your overview. We didn't start it, correct....we aren't trying to put it out either.
In astounded amazement, how sheep will be led by a mongrel wolf, who eats babies and promotes anti-sheep behaviour....openly and blatantly.
All the sheep do is eat and bleat unintelligently.

Antiochus Epiphanes was not a very great ruler compared to Alexenda or Darious( greek or persia)

Each nation that came was Greater than the one before. Antiochus Epiphanes was not greater than Alexander by no means:

Daniel 8:4 I saw the RAM.. and ( THE RAM) became GREAT.

Daniel 8:8 the he GOAT waxed VERY GREAT:

Daniel 8:9 LITTLE HORN, which waxed EXCEEDING GREAT.

Antiochus Epiphanes as a leader could not even tie Cleopatra's shoes let alone be greater than Alexander The great.
---francis on 9/6/10

That refers to Antiochus Epiphanes profamation of the Jewish temple worship would foreshadow a similar and more severe act by the eschatological Antichrist. Whereas Antiochus offered a pig on the sacred altar of the temple, the Antichrist will offer himself [2 Thess. 2:4]! I expect that you and I will need to check out these Scriptures, also====Daniel 9:2, 11:31, 12:11.

ABOMINATION of DESOLATION - Has to do with false gospel taking over the churches
DANIEL 11,31 AND arms shall stand on his part and POLLUTE the SANCTUARY of STRENGTH and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall PLACE the ABOMINATION THAT MAKETH DESOLATE.
( SANCTUARY OF STRENGHT is where GOD is worshipped - REPLACE by the ABOMINATION - false gospels - satan )
2 THESSALONAINS 2:3 LET NO MAN DECEIVE YOU by any means, for that day shall not come, except there come a fallen away first and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition. (satan)
2,4 WHO opposeth and exalteth himself above all that call GOD,or that is worshipped, so that he as GOD sitteth in the temple of GOD.shewing himself that he be GOD.

Now from what nation was the Army which destroyed the sanctuary around 70 AD?
Maybe those are BIG HINTS as to who or what the abomination that makes desolate is.

---Blogger9211 on 9/2/10

How many times must this be proven wrong?

That would fit except Christ foretold of this event around 35 AD. as it was coming in the future.

It is when the Antichrist sets himself up as God in the temple, stops Jewish sacrifices and seeks to kill the remnant of Christians and Jews. His abomination makes Jerusalem desolate.

"Then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, NOR EVER SHALL BE"

This is an obvious reference to the catastrophic events mentioned in the book of Revelation that we call "The Great Tribulation"

Matthew 24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

Mark 13:14 But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains:

Luke 21:20 And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.
Luke 21:21 Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains,

Luke used ARMIES instead of abomination of desolation. This is a hint. Which ever nation marched it's army into jerusalem, and destroyed it, is this abomination of desolation.

Desolation, I would say, means there is nothing good. But what is the desolation *in* a person, witch makes people able to honor a temple Anti-Christ? In the United States, there is worship of "independence" . . . "free will" . . . making people desolate. Many are unable to share with and accept help and needed correction from even their own spouses. Many are their *own* dictators, then, demanding what makes them unable to relate well in marriage. So, American "democracy" could really be a system of millions of dictators who each has to have one's own way. And the Anti-Christ plays to this, promising you can "have it your way".

the phrase itself was not only mentioned in Dan9:27, but also in 11:31 and 12:11. He refers to it as the abomination that causes desolation.

Let pin-the-tail on the abomination continue.

(personally, i don't think it is one person, but rather a system of many people, organizations, and events over many generations that bring desolation to what little we know of Truth.

For example, right now, we get a ring side seat to the Obamanation of desolation, but he did not start the fire. As Billy Joel says, "We didn't start the fire. It was always burnin' since the world's been turnin'".)
---aka on 9/3/10

Homer
The Abomination that causes desolation is when the anti-christ sits in the place, God created for Jesus Christ.

How will that happen?
Remember, the Jews have never claimed their Christ, which means that they are still waiting to crown a Christ.
The Christ that they will crown, will be the Anti-Christ.

In Matt 24:15, Christ is referring to
Dan9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, ....

Christ was crucified somewhere around 30-33 A.D. (in the middle of the week).
---trey on 9/2/10

Nice work. Picked up a nugget on the week.
Also considered: Confirming....with many.
Many is not all. Didn't pen the words...but, "many others" take offense.
Hebrews 10:16
This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them,

In Matt 24:15, Christ is referring to
Dan9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

It is my belief that Christ is speaking of the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. by the Roman Army.

Christ was crucified somewhere around 30-33 A.D. (in the middle of the week).

When Christ died upon the cross, this ended the need for the symbolic sacrifices. All sacrifices after Christ's death are an abomination.

In 167 BCE a Greek ruler by the name of Antiochus Epiphanies set up an altar to Zeus over the altar of burnt offerings in the second Jewish temple in Jerusalem. He also sacrificed a pig on the altar in the Temple in Jerusalem. This event is known as the abomination of desolation.
