Being baptized in Fire is the refining process mentioned in (Zechariah 13:7-9).
Sanctification is the word used for this refining process in the New Testament.

Mima, Josef, and Aka, you guys answered just as I would have answered. Baptism has been complicated by many through the years just like many other doctrines. Charles Spurgeon said this things would happen in the future. New christians bring in new idea's.

\\But it doesn't say 'Holy Spirit or fire', it says 'Holy Spirit and fire'.\\

That's right.

And you take you pick about which one Jesus will baptize you with.

The fire being spoken of is in reference to both the judgement of the wicked and purification of the just at Jesus' return.
Who through the power of His word "will throughly purge His floor, and gather His wheat into the garner, but He will 'burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire'. Mat.312
He will destroy two thirds "And bring the third part 'through the fire', [refining] them as silver is refined, and [trying] them as gold is tried: they shall call on [His] name, and [He] will hear them: [saying], It [is] my people: and they shall say, The LORD [is] my God. Zec 13:9
But who can endure the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He is like a refiner's fire and like launderers' soap. Mal 3:2

well written, mima.
---aka on 9/3/10 far... doors number 1, 2, and 3...

1. Spirit or fire (judgement)
2. Spirit of fire (pentecost)
3. Spirit and fire (purification)

1. Judgement results in everlasting life (because of baptism in the Spirit) or everlating death (if there is no proof of baptism in the Spirit.) How can there be proof of the Spirit without fire (trials)?

2. Sounds like a denominational stretch

3. When there is true repentence, submission, and belief, we receive the Spirit. Fire provides proof and purification.

I choose door number 3.

Those who have not been baptized with the Holy Spirit and fire are much confused about this subject.

The baptism of water is our identifying with the Lord Jesus Christ.

The baptism of the Holy Spirit and fire is the Lord Jesus Christ identifying with us.

The baptism by water is by our initiative.
The baptism by the Holy Spirit and fire comes about by the initiative of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Aka personally agree completely with Catherine's post on 9/2/10

Baptized with the Holy Spirit>>>Spiritual rebirth of the regenerate who shall receive the baptism of the spirit. All true believers has this, baptism of the Holy Spirit. Now on to Fire>>>Baptism with fire is the result of judgment. I need to translate>>It is either [with fire, or, and with fire]. References to fire burning up unprofitable chaff refers to Judgment rather than cleansing. [The unquenchable fire eternal punishment of hell or the "Lake of Fire"] Matthew 3:11-12.

Jesus prayed the Father,God,for a Comforter to come to his people, the HS Acts 1:4,5 -he gave them this command,"Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about". For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit". Acts 2:3,4 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues,as of fire and it sat on each of them and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues,as the Spirit gave them utterance. The fire is the power of God given through the infilling of the HG. Hebrews 1:7 And of the angels he says,Who makes his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire.

Would you like me to post another question about Obama or soap opera divorce questions or give another date that the world will end?

Only being here since about Mar/Apr, I was not prithy to that. Plus, I am interested on the different views of those currently on here. Most importantly, it might help someone who is still searching and lost.

Are you here for others or yourself? From what I have read from your blogs is that (even though you can be a bit condescending :~), you are genuinely concerned for the scriptures according to your church and others searching for the Truth.

But it doesn't say 'Holy Spirit or fire', it says 'Holy Spirit and fire'.
1Cor 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether [we be] Jews or Gentiles, whether [we be] bond or free, and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
Eph 1:13 In whom ye also [trusted], after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
1Cor 3:15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved, yet so as by fire. ref. vv 11-15
The Spirit confirms the foundation.
The fire tries the works built on that foundation.

There has already been a thread on this.

In short, we can come to Christ through the waters of Baptism, and He will baptize us with the Holy Spirit.

Or we can refuse Him, and He will baptize is in the fires of Gehenna in the next world.
