\\The Cluny statement, "Christians have done the same thing to non-Christians (or the wrong kind of Christians) on the basis of Biblical passages," prove my point.\\

Are you DENYING that Christians have done the same thing to other Christians?

Or are you denying that the Elizabethan government in the 16h century or the Puritans who flogged and expelled Baptists and Quakers were Christians?

The "Christian" Crusaders took their orders from the Catholic church.
---Steveng on 9/11/10

Shirley, it is very evident that Cluny and some others here do not know what a Christian is.
The Cluny statement, "Christians have done the same thing to non-Christians (or the wrong kind of Christians) on the basis of Biblical passages," prove my point.
Nothing the Muslims do in our country seems to be challenged. Those who do speak out are the ones that are challenged. I was told by my unit commander (LtCol) not to pray in Jesus' name because we had one Muslim in the unit. This was in violation of my rights and Army Regs. Guess who got the "heat" when I refused to follow his order. He was a (Cluny) "Christian" also.

Rod4Him:

The difference is that despite the Crusades, Jesus never taught his followers to murder their enemies, while Muhammed did.

Bill_bila5659:

The Constitution does not prevent religious discrimination. It prevents Congress from compelling or prohibiting religious beliefs.

However, our churches are free to say that Jesus is the Son of God (which insults Islam), just as their mosques are free to say Jesus is not the Son fo God (which insults Christianity).

But if any individuals (of any religion) choose to use threats and violence to try to force their religious beliefs on others, the government has the power to intervene against those individuals.

\\The "Christian" Crusaders killed many muslims and Jews during the Crusader conquests.\\

And the Crusaders were motivated by mahometans killing Christians in the Middle East and destroying churches, as they are still doing today.

Thank God on your knees for the Crusaders, Rod4Him. Were it not for them, you'd be quoting the Coran and praying 5 times a day to Allah.

Koran book: "Fight and kill the disbelievers wherever you find them, take them captive, harass them, lie in wait and ambush them using every stratagem of war." Qur'an 9:5. "Fight those who do not believe until they all surrender, paying the protective tax in submission." Qur'an 9:29. "But as for those who disbelieve, garments of fire will be cut out for them, boiling fluid will be poured down their heads. Whereby that which is in their bellies, and their skins too, will be melted, And for them are hooked rods of iron. Whenever, in their anguish, they would go forth from thence they are driven back therein and (it is said unto them): Taste the doom of burning." Qur'an 22:19-22.

Sarah agreed. thank you for showing that. True Christians show love. If whom ever we speak to does not want to accept it, then we move onward, not letting their thoughts stop us from building Gods kingdom. We shouldn't "beat scripture over the head" either as my mom puts it. State the point, & either they will listen or they won't, no need for violence no matter what religion they're from.

Christianity will have to clean out it's own house before a stand against the koran is possible.
Heathens and infidels are very much the same.
Racism -the chosen people syndrom.
Extermination of select inferiors.
Women are treated as unequal.
Women are forbidden to vote.
Slavery is acceptable,it is the norm of society.
From just a few here the christians maintain that the book of their law is the holy bible and support every word as God's word just like the muslims who support koran.
Jesus tells a different story with a higher moral constitution.

First, what does God really think of me?

I'd say burning a Qur'an can be a way of discriminating against Moslems in general. And religious discrimination would be un-Constitutional, including presuming all Moslems guilty without a trial with evidence for each individual.

But it could decoy radicals into the open to attack the preacher, exposing them to authorities.

Plenty of people can see through this stuff, both Christians and Moslems.

Our character is our dictator. Evil character causes people to use religion as their excuse to kill, etc. Ones have used the Bible the same way.
---Bill_bila5659 on 9/11/10

earl:

You said: The muslim radicals may possibly follow up on their threats to the minister if he burns the koran.

So what? Should we abdandon our principles whenever anyone threatens us, and base our actions on wishes of those not bound by rules of civilized dialogue and behavior?

By that logic, Christianity would be more effective if we abandoned peace and threatened violence any time anyone offended us - everyone would fear us and listen. But this isn't what Jesus taught us to do.

If wild animals threaten your life and limb, you defend yourself with walls, electric fences, force, and if necessary, lethal force. If some people want to be behave like raging beasts, we should should treat them as such.

When did christians murder non christians. I would be interested in learning about that. Muslims have been murdering christians for centuries, even their wives if they look at another man. They don't seem to have a reason to kill. wives don't have to do too much to be murdered.

Strongax,
The muslim radicals may possibly follow up on their threats to the minister if he burns the koran.
Freedom of religion is a key feature in this country although the koran is not about freedom of religion but is cloaked as a religion along with a holy book as it's guide. If the koran was reclassified as dangerous then it would be like illegal drugs coming from mexico. The US government is helpless to protect the religious freedom it gives it's citizens. How does christianity prevent the tares from choking the wheat?Fence the field.Wheat outside the fence is not protected.Make wheat not war.Grow more wheat.

Honestly, I think it's crazy. Yes I know that they do believe in something totally different, but how are we going to witness to them if we're acting crazy. In the Bible, Jesus taught His desciples the most important fruit, Love, which is why it's on the top of God's list. He reached out to those who no one wanted to be bothered with. You will never draw any Muslims into the kingdom by threatening them. Jesus never threatened anyone, and neither should we. Instead of burning, to a Muslim what is their holiest book, perhaps you can explain to them the difference between the Bible and the Koran. Infact, between myself and her coworker, I have a Muslim friend who accepted Christ, and now comes with me to a weekly Bible study and Church.

You said: the act would possibly require his life by them and others.

Under the U.S. Constitution, he can burn a book if he wants. The only law to "require his life" is sharia (muslim law), which does not apply since he is not a muslim and the U.S. is thankfully not yet under sharia.

Millions of Qur'ans in print explicitly say Jesus is not the Son of God, and these millions of blasphemies are allowed in Christian nations. But in a country under sharia if you say Jesus IS God's Son or Muhammad is NOT God's prophet, you will be killed for being an apostate and a heretic. If Jones were shooting muslims in the street it would be tit for tat. Burning their book is mild compared to what they do to us.

Although some people who call themselves Christians have justified (and do justify) violence by quoting passages from the Bible, the fact is that Jesus NEVER advocated using violence against unbelievers, nor against anyone else.

The U.S. constitution grants rights of freedom of speech and religion - regardless of how distasteful that speech or religion may be to others. If some people want to spend their own money to buy some Qur'ans and burn them in protest, that's their right.

Switzerland allows mosques but outlaws minarets (prayer towers higher than all other buildings) and Muslims worldwide scream outrage, even though Saudi Arabia doesn't allow ANY churches to be built yet nobody complains - yet Switzerland is the villain here.

Some Americans want to burn a Qur'ans and people world wide scream in protest. Yet you can't even OWN a Bible in many Muslim nations - yet America is the villain here.

Wake up and smell the double-standard.

The undeniable truth: There are Muslims out there bent on destroying America whether or not Korans are burnt. Imams should tell those terrorists to stop killing people with terror. The reason they confront the puny little church instead terrorist Muslims is that they are scared of being killed by these terrorist. There is something badly wrong with Islam, but fingers are just pointing the wrong way. I do not agree with Koran burning, but I hope that people in America, especially the muslims would start looking at their religion and start asking questions about Islam. People outside the religion are afraid to ask the question.
---jim on 9/10/10

I think it is a good idea. The Koran is the book that instructs all Islamic followers to horribly kill and torture nonbelievers. And when the devout muslims followed their belief in murdering 2,996 people in this country because the book of their faith told them too, then this "Unholy book" should be rightly gathered up from across the land and rightly destroyed. Not only so, but I think that in a state of war, which I think this assault was, all muslims should be deported out of the county and back to their own land where they can be free to kill each other and carry out their suicidal debauchery: for here in this country we do not advocate murdering other people because they believe differently than we do, as the muslims believe.
---Eloy on 9/10/10

It is true, the book buring will not bring back those that have perished, but it is a kind of memorial in honor to those whom have unjustly and unmercifully been killed. My prayers go out to those families and individuals whom remember their lost loved ones this 9/11. Lord Jesus, be with them, and console them in their loss. The florida minister did not realize the consequences of his proposed actions.
In my opinion, considering his armed status and radical muslim threats to him, the act would possibly require his life by them and others if he followed through with his act.
One thing I noticed in the news is that not only did he agitate the radicals but the muslim norm as well with US flag burning as a sign of their counter agression. But the florida minister has yet to strike a match but radicals and the muslim norm did not hesitate to get things going.
Now that the minister states he has been lied to withdraws his agreement not to burn. Now there is a standoff.
One point-good or bad .The minister is not threatening to kill anyone, just protest.

Well brother Cluny, a call from the Secretary of Defense and a knock on the door from FBI agents will tend to change minds.
Frankly this irresponsible and unwise Christian needed a door for which to back out and was given one this afternoon embellishing the moment as he stumbled to explain he was canceling the book burning.

Jones, who according to a minister there, left congregants in Colonge, Germany in spiritual therapy for abuse, is a nut.

He is an example of what happens when naked religion is at work without the guidance of the Holy Spirit. A nut without a witness.

Islam is too dangerous to be toyed with so foolishly. Its spiritual warfare and must be handled with prayer and fasting.

I was listening to a local radio program about this issue. One caller had a good idea:

If any of the Moslems get upset when the Koran is burned, just tell them that we'll STOP doing that -- As soon as the Moslems themselves STOP burning the American flag, Bibles, etc.

Several Moslems called to complain that they have the RIGHT to express their disapproval of America and Christians.

Well, then I guess that churches have the RIGHT to express their disapproval of Islam and the Koran.

After hearing that radio program, I would approve of the Koran being burned on the anniversary of 9/11. Coming up this Saturday. 09/11/2010. Down with Islam!
---Sag on 9/7/10

Another reason for the Koran "burning" might be to get Americans to wake-up to what Islam REALLY is: an evil religion.

President Obama, churches, civil rights people, and even myself [in the past] have preached that we need to "tolerate" and "accept" other people, cultures, and religions.

For a long time, I even believed that Islam was the SAME as Christianity. Just different names for God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Today, I don't know what I was thinking back then. Before I became a Christian.

Maybe the Koran "burning" will help Americans understand that Islam isn't just a "good, peaceful religion" as some Moslems say. Actually, quite the opposite.
---Sag on 9/7/10

The public burning of the Koran by this group in exceptionally foolish from a diplomatic position. We have friendly Muslim countries that support us and this type of foolishness will undermine that support the we need in the moderate Muslim world.

Actions like this cand come back to haunt us, they put American military personnel at increased risks as well as Americans Traveling abroad.

We also have a few cities in the USA with significant Muslim populations and extreme Shiite clerics could inflame problems in these internal cities as well.

The targets of opportunity are US elementary schools in semi isolated areas near a Muslim population as it does not take many insurgent to do a lot of damage is a shrot time period.

if you are an American chistian, you will likely be waiting for the rapture to save you from the brunt of stupidity. if you are a true disciple, be ready for the brunt of for others using God's name in stupidity (i.e. burning the Koran).

\\I would just ask the local authorities for a "burning ban".\\

The local authorities refused permission for a bonfire, but the church had the burning anyway.

"What do you think of this?" It is pointless, and completely uncalled for.

I would just ask the local authorities for a "burning ban".

You never now what might "set these people off". Remember, the Koran says to "spread the word by the SWORD".

Burning the Koran might bring VIOLENCE that the local authorities would have to squelch. In the end, us taxpayers would foot the bill.

I would ask the church NOT to burn the Koran and have a prayer meeting instead. Cheaper and Safer too.

Cluny, I think it is a BAD idea. I heard it's going to cause havoc with our Soldiers who are still in Iraq and Afghastan (I know they are leaving Iraq, but 50,000 will be left behind).

Why not IGNORE or PRAY for people? Instead of burning their bible, which shows a lack of wisdom on our part, why not pray for them?

There's not one scripture that tells us to burn the books or bibles of false gods. We know they believe in a false god, so why not pray for the REAL GOD to open up their eyes to see Jesus? Now there's an idea...right?

Not burning it because you fear the muslims is caving to terror. Muslims are busy protesting the burning. they don't protest against, Darfur, child executions, terror against the west. They don't protest against Iran, the nation with the highest rate of execution on EARTH. (you stand four times the chance of dying by execution in Iran than in China). Muslims have no problem, marching in London by the TENS of THOUSANDS with signs that say "God Bless Hitler" "Freedom Go To Hell" They have NO problem building a trophy mosque. prayer rooms over looking the WTC site. They have no problem naming that mosque after an Islamic military victory in Spain. Burning is only a symbol. It won't hurt a single person. I SAY BURN it!!

You have got to be kidding me, Cluny! Well, in the Book of Acts we see that ones burned their books of witchcraft when they became Christians. So, I can see that someone who was a Moslem might burn his or her Koran after converting to Jesus. But one can use one's Koran to communicate with a Moslem, to show what is in the Koran and show how this compares with the Bible and Jesus, so the person can see one's need for Jesus and salvation.

Doing a burning of Korans can be a way of saying all Moslems are the same. And that would not be saying the truth. And I would not make a general statement that all Moslems would react with violence. Each person is unique, in God's plan. "Their plan won't work."

Knowing how "sensitive" some Islamic folks are, I wouldn't burn the Koran.

The same reasons WHY I don't "return" other people's salty language, their hand gestures while driving, or ask groups of teenagers to move off the sidewalk.

Many of these folks don't see these as your "dispproval" of something. Instead, they often take it as an excuse for: violence, fighting, even attacking YOU.

If there is any way that I can be "peaceful", I try to live that way. GOD will deal with the spreading of "untruthful" material, like the Koran.
