-bernard- How about "Hope" and "Change" and
"Yes, we can!". It worked last time for the Dems.
---Donna66 on 10/28/10

I get the feeling, that all men except for the very wicked who's causing all the trouble, are looking for something BETTER. And man are just not equipped to give you what you are seeking.....ONLY JESUS. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh.Ha, Ha, Ha.
---catherine on 10/28/10

Trav, where you err is suggesting the GOP or Tea Potty party is any better.
They all stink only the odor is different. The fact on whether we lean left or right doesn't verify our ideology.

I've said it before and will say it again, there is nothing holy or biblicly virtuous in conservative or liberal politics.

The deficit for 2009 was 1.4 trillion dollars.
The deficit 2 weeks before President-elect Obama was inaugurated was 1 trillion dollars. Duh?

Politics is not about solutions but power.
---larry on 10/26/10

With one week to go to the midterm election, the democrats are not doing particularily well.Invisible John Boehner is hiding in his den giggling and salivating at the propect of gobbling up a lot of democratic seats. Nobody is doing anything about this. There is nothing to rally the base. The democrats need to come up with an effective election slogan very fast. Here is an example. "Reject fear and the GOP status quo, vote DEM for hope and a brighter future on Nov.2nd". Flood the air waves and the internet with this message.

For the last two Federal elections the GOP has been beaten like a rented mule, and the democrats bereft of modesty and wisdom will take a similar beating in November. ...---larry on 10/11/10

Loved your rented Mule analogy. The rented "Republic-cans" are holding the country from totally slipping over into barry's abyss.
The Older gen demos are realizing this demo perverted party is not the party their folks knew. There are a lot of newly awakened, to what the perverted socialist party is up too. Everyone got duped....but only for a moment. Send the pond scum packing...Repub and Demo. Take our blessings back....we know what to with them better than the perverts.
---Trav on 10/14/10

For the last two Federal elections the GOP has been beaten like a rented mule, and the democrats bereft of modesty and wisdom will take a similar beating in November. You don't hold the house claiming things "could have been worse if we had not passed the stimulus".

To answer your question the economy stinks and Dems are and will pay the price.
We've seen the GOP act pre-Obama and so we are likely to go back to the Dems in 2012, but not because they have any ideas.
The GOP has the ability to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat with wacky candidates, bizarre behavior and xenophobia.

Donna, Im not sure either you or I could answer that question. As pointed out, people much smarter than I admit "the mystery of growth is deep and poorly understood."

However, my point is that based on the information he provided, lower taxes do not always result in increased revenue, and I believe this article shows that.

As far as the standards of living, I have no doubt that the standard of living in the countries listed is on par with the US.
---NurseRobert on 10/11/10

Nurse Robert -- I went to the site you mentioned but couldn't find "L taxgrowth" or a search feature that would help me find it. He expressed some anti-war ideas is all. He is an engineer and computer geek. He probably has an opinion about increasing tax revenue. But I stand by my statement that tax cuts INCREASE revenue. "Opinion" doesn't mean much to me unless someone has evidence to support it.
---Donna66 on 10/10/10

Nurse Robert--finally found what you wanted me to find by "huppi". He has lots of figures, but then forms his interpretations based on highly speculative assumptions. He says "Although the U.S. has remained the most prosperous nation in the world ever since, these other nations have been growing faster than the U.S. And they have been doing so with far higher tax rates!"

"Growth" is relative. What kind of growth? Of course these countries charge higher taxes. They have to! Most of them rely on socialism (to a greater or lesser extent) Their cradle-to-the-grave programs require high taxes.
But do individuals prosper? Do private businesses prosper? Compare the standards of living.
---Donna66 on 10/10/10

But tax cuts have ALWAYS resulted in increased government revenue. ---Donna66 on 9/18/10

Donna, I disagree..
Do a google search for L-taxgrowth on the huppi dot com website. A different perspective on taxes and growth.
---NurseRobert on 10/9/10

Want to know how to increase employment? Try reversing every tactic Obama has used to "stimulate" the economy.
Expanding government employment does little for the economy, since more taxpayer dollars are required to pay for more government jobs.. The economy grows when the private sector flourishes.
But tax cuts have ALWAYS resulted in increased government revenue. This is because tax cuts mean people make more money on which they must pay taxes. If the wealthy (who are the employers in the workforce) are not taxed punitively, they hire more workers. Companies hire workers overseas because it makes their products more affordable for consumers and, naturally, it also pushes their competitors to lower their prices.
---Donna66 on 9/18/10

I think a lot of voters are fed up with BOTH parties. The party in power has done nothing to increase voters' faith in them over the last administration. "Hope" and "Change" have become Cynicism and Washington Politics as usual.

We may have a two party system, but the outcome of elections rests primarily with Independents. Last election they veered left. It appears, this time, they are leaning right. The Dems are bound to lose many seats in the house (maybe a few in the Senate, too). But that's good. The genius of our government is that it is not meant to function by agreement among those who govern... but by compromise.
---Donna66 on 9/18/10

NR, tell us how Clinton gave budget surplus. Have you forgotten that he robbed Social Security to do it. Any liar could have done that. You know bankrupt one to surplus another. Then only the ones who should be dead anyway suffer. Remember that when you have to work until you are 70 or 75 to retire on SS. Do you know that Roosevelt gave us SS also. He promised it would only cost each worker $125.00 max each year.
Weren't those democrat part time jobs to pay all of the higher taxes and for hammers that cost $150.00 each? This present administration can claim success in more jobs because teachers have went back to work. Maybe that is why veterns have to pay higher medication co-pays now.
---Elder on 9/18/10

tonne, I thought all this time that Roosevelt and Clinton were democrats.
---Elder on 9/18/10

Lets see...

Roosevelt got us out the depression.
Clinton gave us a budget surplus plus more jobs were created during his 8 years than Reagan, Bush I and II combined (22.7 million vs 19.8 for the other three).

Oh, and since 1921 republican presidents have created 39.2 mill jobs, democrat presidents have created 70.2.

---NurseRobert on 9/18/10

The bottom line is that no matter whether a democrat or republican wins, America still loses. A rose by any other name is still a rose.

Mike: Wasnt it the Republican's that screwed up this great country? Are you on Mars or something?
---tonne on 9/15/10

Hopefully, the Republicans will get back into office and fix our great country.
---Mike on 9/11/10
Give me a break PLEASE.
If I remember correectly, they had a 4 year reign of all houses, and messed things up.

Lets just start with the tax cuts: they gave BIG tax cuts to the rich ( no sin there). But the rich did not use this tax cut to create jobs did they? they outsourced the labout, and cut USA jobs, and put the money, profits and tax cuts in their pockets.

What makes any republican think that this will be any different next time around?

Amen Obewan, amen Tommy, Donna and Candice.

The party in power always loses some seats in the mid-term elections and this fall the electorate is particularly hostile. Its amazing to think the Dems could be thrown out by a party with 24% approval rating. It shows how bad things really are.
Both parties have proven themselves incapable of governance.
The president spent his political capital on health care instead of jobs - a serious miscalculation.
Our problems can't be resolved by any president quickly.
Republicans will find out tax cuts and waiting for the housing problem to fix itself won't work either.
Its a mess probably only resolved by a holy man in office and a Biblical Year of Jubilee.

Rob, If you dwell in the secret place of the Most High God and abide under the Shadown of the All-Mighty, will you not trust in the Lord and say, "MY GOD IN HIM WILL I TRUST."

DO NOT TRUST MEN! Especially Politicians.

The other question is: If we call ourselves the United States, what's so United about the States in America? NOTHING-NOT ONE THING. People worship all different false gods, we are not worshipping the same God. My own mother thinks Allah and Jehovah are the same god and they are NOT. Allah is a false god and Jehovah is the Lord God of Isreal...the ONE TRUE GOD.
---Donna5535 on 9/8/10

True Christians do not participate in Politics. Yes we should obey the laws of the land we're in, but we shouldn't sit here & keep up with votes or anything else in the runnings. God appointed Jesus as our king, so Jesus is therefore our leader.
---candice on 9/8/10

I don't think it matters much which party wins and which party loses, if people put their trust in men/women they are going to be disappointed every time. The ONLY source of true hope is Jesus Christ.

Send a Free Evolution Tract

Here is FL it is a real horse race that the Dems may win..

Rick Scott, the Republican candidate for governor is a convicted thief who never did his time. He was owner and CEO of a chain of hospitals that had the largest Medicare billing fraud in US history. They were found guilty of false billing, admitted to it, and paid a record fine of over $1.5 billion.

His personal gain from that was over $300 million and he never paid it back or went to prison. Now he expects to get votes for public service. I would vote for a 20 year prison sentence - nothing more.

How is this question related to Christianity?

We are not to seek salvation, even for our country, through the political process, as Jesus Christ Himself said, "My Kingdom is NOT of this world."
