The only thing that I can recall related to such is the story of Lazarus and the rich man. The rich man, the word says, lifted up his eyes in hell, and saw Lazarus sitting in the bossom of Abraham. The rich man told Lazarus to go to earth to tell his brothers about God so they would not wind up in hell. Lazarus said I cant cause their is a guff between the two.

mima: "Jerry ... If your statement is true then this verse from the Bible (2 Corinthians 5:8) Must necessarily be wrong. Either that or the Lord himself is asleep awaiting the second coming."

You exemplify those of whom Peter spoke when he said "2Pe 3:16 As also in all his [Paul's] epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction."

You hang all your beliefs on a false interpretation of one or two scriptures and ignore the multitude of scriptures that contradict your beliefs.

...And the graves were opened, and many bodies of the saints which slept arose ...and appeared unto many
*****

Matt 27:53,53 "proves" heaven how?

PURE speculation a stretch to undertake and ADD idea's set forth in determining who these saints were ...how would those who lived during Christs time know Moses David or other OT figures in their physical form - oh thats right from pictures LOL

this is what happens when those with no spiritual discernment take difficult scriptures and IMPLY these have a meaning that CONTRADICTS other scriptures

aside from obvious contradiction that Christ does NOT overcome death until HE returns to rule earth ...heaven fairy tales or plain truth from Holy Scripture

Acts 2:29 Men [and] brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.
Acts 2:34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself,

What about thier souls:

"And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him." ( Matthew 17:3)

"And the graves were opened, and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,

"And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many."( Matthew 27:52-53)

Did the Saints have to be regather and thrown back to the graves?

francis * Joy in heaven over a sinner who repents: Consider the angels and Jesus

Consider Hebrews 12: 22-23

" But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, ... the assembly of the first-born who are enrolled in Heaven , and to a judge who is God of all, and to the spirits of the just men made perfect ,

francis* Cloud of witness: Again we are sourounded by angels.

Francis,in chapter 11, the writer mentions saints in the Old Testament such as Abel (v. 4), Abraham (vv. 8-19), Joseph (vv. 22), Moses (vv. 23-28), the Maccabean martyrs (v. 35), etc. and then he says we are surrounded by a cloud of witness...
---Ruben on 9/29/10

which of these text say that anyone goes to heaven when they die?

Joy in heaven over a sinner who repents: Consider the angels and Jesus

Death not seperating us from LOVE OF GOD, does not say we go to heaven when we die.

God of Abraham and isaac, not God of the dead. ( first find the meaning of this) But it does not say that we go to heaven when we die.

Cloud of witness: Again we are sourounded by angels.

Acts 2:29 Men [and] brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.
Acts 2:34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

Can people see what is going on on earth from heaven? Can my grandma see me?

no because no one goes to heaven when they die

---francis on 9/29/10

8:35-37:

"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?.. For I am sure that neither death "

Lk. 15:6-10: "Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance"

Mt. 22:29-32: 'I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? He is not God of the dead, but of the living."

Hebrews 12:1 :
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses,"

Can people see what is going on on earth from heaven? Can my grandma see me?

no because no one goes to heaven when they die

MARY IS NOT IN HEAVEN

Genesis 3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground, for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

Psalms 115:17 The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence.
---francis on 9/29/10

all life form is dead in the ground waiting the resurrection of all when Christ returns to rule the earth

the earth is ruled by Satan now otherwise Christ does not need to return to fulfill his promise of inheritance and those who have lived and died would receive their inheritance upon death ...essentially mini resurrections happening many thousands of times a day which of course is unsupported by Holy Scripture

Scripture states the dead are REALLY dead ...they know nothing not even God and their thoughts perish

stop following the anti-christ fairy tales of heaven ...its not the reward of the saved ...its only the philosophical reasoning of mortal men
---Rhonda on 9/28/10

What do you want heaven to be...Depressing? No, heaven is a place of absolute peace. Need I say more. Pleaseeeeeee. Ah Jesus+ Come on Jesus. Your people are waiting for You. And we are ready. Ah Jesus.
---catherine on 9/27/10

The saved in heaven, present with the lord that went back to the father as recorded in acts, are worshiping God. There concerns are not of this earth for they know that God is in control of what happens. On the other hand the angels are very much aware, they are said to rejoice over the salvation of one that was lost. As to praying to or asking for help from, any created being in heaven The Bible is plain "There is one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus." One and only one to plead your case before the father and he can only do that because of his own merit.
---Harold on 9/27/10

Jerry you wrote,"The dead are NOT in heaven watching anyone. They are asleep in the grave, awaiting the resurrection at the second coming".

If your statement is true then this verse from the Bible,"We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8). Must necessarily be wrong. Either that or the Lord himself is asleep awaiting the second coming.

Which is it?
---mima on 9/27/10

The Bible says:

Ecc 9:5,6 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward, for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished, neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.

The dead are NOT in heaven watching anyone. They are asleep in the grave, awaiting the resurrection at the second coming.

How happy could I be in heaven if I had to watch my beloved wife and children being abused by some jerk, while being powerless to stop it? What if I had to watch loved ones being tortured in hell?

Inherent immortality of the soul is a non-biblical, pagan concept.
---jerry6593 on 9/27/10

No, those that are up in paradise have no more need of the earth. And neither do the living talk with the departed.

//If " absent from the body present with the lord" is true for you it is also true for Mary, and if it is true for Mary that there should be no problems petitioning Mary to pray for us.//
---francis on 9/22/10

francis, Mary is not omniscience and omnipotent...Mary is not all-knowing and not all-powerful.
Second, Mary's spirit is not dwelling in our temple/body.
God's Holy Spirit is.

You're a bit mixed up in your theology. Mary is not all knowing like God is, neither is Mary all powerful like God is and she's not sovereign like God is. She is a human being like you and me who was Chosen by God to birth forth His Son. She was blessed AMOUNG women, not blessed ABOVE women. Amen?
---Donna5535 on 9/24/10

Actually I keep Gods teaching, which the witnesses pointed out to me, that the mainstream churches donot teach. However I donot asosciate with them anymore & donot agree on every topic they preach. If you look at Genisis it says God made Adam a living soul by breathing life into him. So otherwise without giving him life or breath he'd be nothing & neither would we. Dust we came from & will return to in death. The immortal soul idea came from differnt mythology ideas from greek to roman to pagan cultures adopted into the christian setting, this is what God doesn't want to happen so he shows us the truth.
---candice on 9/22/10

If God the Holy Ghost is already praying for you, why would you want a dead saint to pray for you? Someone who needed salvation the same as we do.

Luke 1:46,47

Those who are sinless dont need God as their "Savior".
---JackB on 9/22/10

Let us reason this out...

Heaven wouldn't be joyful if a christian had to see the world as it is - a mess.

Another point is that the spirit is sleeping as told in the bible until the resurrection. There are two resurrections: one, when Jesus returns and the dead in christ shall rise first and the living shall be caught up with the dead. This is the first resurrection.

The second resurrection at the end of the thousand years when all the other dead shall rise and shall be judged from the book of life according to their works.

Those of you who believe that " absent from the body present with the lord" means you go to heaven when you die, and have all sences and can see, and hear, you need to think twice on this post.

If " absent from the body present with the lord" is true for you it is also true for Mary, and if it is true for Mary that there should be no problems petitioning Mary to pray for us.
---francis on 9/22/10

Those of you are who not Catholic need to be very careful how you answer this question.

If people in heaven can see and hear us, then by all means we MUST pitition them, especially Mary mother of God to pray for us.

If you are not Catholic, you cannot condemn the petitioning of Mary, and still claim that the dead in heaven can see us.

It would be very hypocritical to say that Mary is dead when addressing Catholics petitions to mary, and yet claim that those who died and went to heaven can see and hear us.
What! amoung those in heaven who can see only Mary is dead?
---FRANCIS on 9/22/10

Donna5535 when we die our spirits do not go to God. the spirit which God gave goes back to God, that is from both OT and NT.

Psalms 146:4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth, in that very day his thoughts perish.
Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
Luke 23:46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.

But this is the spirit which God gave to man,
when man dies he has no thoghts at all.

Psalms 146:4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth, in that very day his thoughts perish.
---francis on 9/22/10

Post 1 of 2 francis that's all Old Testament scriptures you are giving...REMEMBER THIS: Jesus was our example, not Old testament prophets, etc.,

So if Jesus died and 3 days later rose from the dead, and He came to be an example to us, wouldn't it make sense that our body too will die, but our spirit goes to heaven or hell?

If God hasn't revealed to you that there are people in heaven right now and people in hell right now, then pleaseeee ask Father God to give you revelation knowledge on this. Because you're spreading something false and people need hope that they will see Jesus when they die.

Moderator- can I post a second post with one more thought??? Please????

Post 2 of 2....Jesus told us, Behold I go and prepare a place for you, if it were not so, I would have told you.

Secondly, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

Thirdly, if I had to live all these years on this earth BELIEVING the scripture, "whosoever believes upon Him shall have ever-lasing life." Then I KNOW God is waiting for me as soon as I die off this earth.

Everlasting means lasting forever, never dying.

Eternal life means never ending. So our life never ends.

We go from earth to heaven (our spirit goes to heaven when we die, our body to the grave) Then on resurrection day, they are united.

Job 14:20 Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth: thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away.
Job 14:21 His sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not, and they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of them.

Now if he could see from heaven, when his sons came to honour him ( IN DEATH) he would see it
---francis on 9/22/10

Psalms 6:5 For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?

Job 19:26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:

Psalms 115:17 The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence.

Ecclesiastes 9:5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward, for the memory of them is forgotten.

Ecclesiastes 9:6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished, neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.

So based on the bible, No one who is dead can see another

Realistically,as a pilot, flying at only 1,000 ft. I can sometimes recognize people from their clothing, but faces...no way.
How close is heaven??
Still x-ray vision ,like Superman, would be necessary to see thru buildings!
So the answer is NO! Even if the dead were still living, which they are not,but they are waiting for the resurrection.
---1st_cliff on 9/21/10

I'm not a Jw ,but have studied with them...candice.

You are very wrong my dear. You still have your Jehovah Witness beliefs in your being because people are NOT still in their graves, only their body is, not their spirit.

JW's don't teach the difference between the spirit of a man and the soul of a man. I work with a Jehovah Witness and her theology is really messed up.

When you die, you either ascend to heaven (your spirit) or descend to hell. Your body goes to the grave while your spirit goes to heaven or hell.

NO ONE except God and Jesus can see what's going on here on earth. Both are omniscience and omnipotent (all knowing and all powerful).
---Donna5535 on 9/21/10

John 8:56
Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.

Where was Abraham when He saw Christ's coming to be incarnate (which is what this passage means)?

Clearly, he was SOMEWHERE and aware of it.

It couldn't have been BEFORE Christ came to earth, now was it?
---Cluny on 9/21/10

People are still in their graves right now until the ressurection.the dead do not know what is going on. See Daniel 12:2, eccles 9:5 stateing "the living know that they shall die, but the dead know not anything, neither have they any more a reward, for the memory of them is forgotten"

Also in the NT John 3:13 "and no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven"
So you see only Jesus is allowed in the heavens now .Once the resurection occurs we'll all awake & then either be with our Lord in the new earth (look at rev 21 about Gods tent coming down to dwell with mankind) & the wickednes will persih.

PT 2: I too use to believe this until reading more of the bible on death myself. Remember everything john saw in revelations was a vision into the future, not in the present time.I'm not a Jw ,but have studied with them, then went further on my own & studied about this topic without them & learned for myself what the bible shows. One day you will be able to see your family again if they are chosen to be with God I say this out of love & not to raise false hope.
