\\Cluny, because the bible tells us HOW a leader should act:\\

Didn't we learn in the Pearlygate Scandal back in 1986 that they don't always do so?

"Cluny, because the bible tells us HOW a leader should act: (1st Timothy)." (Donna5535)

Very true, on the other hand, all throughout the Old Testament and New Testament, WE are told HOW to act, and yet we fall down throughout our Christian life. Don't you? Do you claim that you are sinless/perfectionist?

Cluny point is that we should not be surprised because we ALL sin (whether it be small or great) and are in need of constant repentance (whether it be a clergy member or a layperson). That is why the Church has the Mystery of Confession.

In IC.XC.,

Lets just wait and see about this. Lets pay more attention to our own raunchy sins.

Cluny, because the bible tells us HOW a leader should act: (1st Timothy).

2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach, 3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre, but patient, not a brawler, not covetous, 6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. 7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without, lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. 8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre,

Before the last trump sounds these men that have gotten rich and lied to people will probably have their evil brought to light.
Sadly, some will still follow them because they teach what the followers want to believe rather than the rightly divided word of truth.

Since all four accusers were above the age of consent in Georgia at the time of the alleged incidents, there is NOTHING for the state of Georgia to prosecute in this regard.

Now, possibly, fraudulent use of church funds might be uncovered--but this is an entirely different issue.

Could I point out something else?

Let's assume the charges are true. But if all of us (including Eddie Long) are sinners, why are some people so surprised to discover that sinners sin?

Just remember the scripture that says Judgement begins in the house of the Lord, then the nation is right behind it.

The part about the nation being right behind it isn't scripture, I heard that a long time ago and tend to agree with it.

God will discipline and first bring down his people who are practicing such things, then He will deal with the nations second.

Revelation 2
1TO THE angel (messenger) of the assembly (church) in Ephesus write: These are the words of Him Who holds the seven stars [which are the messengers of the seven churches] in His right hand, Who goes about among the seven golden lampstands [which are the seven churches]:
2I know your industry and activities, laborious toil and trouble, and your patient endurance, and how you cannot tolerate wicked [men] and have tested and critically appraised those who call [themselves] apostles (special messengers of Christ) and yet are not, and have found them to be impostors and liars.

\\they should be persectued to the law,\\

If they were over the age of consent (as at least two of them were), there's nothing for the law to prosecute (not "persecute").

I'm not approving of such behavior, but 16 and 17 year old males have a pretty good idea of what they want sexually and are capable of saying, "NO!" and generally making it stick in just about any situtation, as most parents know.
---Cluny on 9/26/10

While we may not know for some time whether the Bishop commit sexual crimes against youngsters, the lesson we see is that we should never trust those in leadership completely.

They are all an arm of flesh and often the flesh wins over.

It's no wonder people look at christians and wonder if they are real.
---shira3877 on 9/26/10

i'm not dismissing anyone taking advantage of our kids. they should be persectued to the law, but again since we donot go there & we do not know him it is none of our business. it should be delt with between the law & congregation, NOT on disscussion boards & media.

For us at CN to discuss any minister or priest caught in such behavior is gossip. For the accused and the accusers to discuss it is appropriate.

I grow weary of the topics here that are just pure gossip. The devil is having such a field day with that here on CN.
---Trish on 9/26/10

Candice and others:

In the case of the initial two accusers who have started a civil suit, they were over the age of consent at the time of the alleged actions by Eddie Long.

If the other two accusers were likewise over 16, then there are no grounds for a criminal action, and no charges can be pressed at all.

May I point out that with these types of accusations, whether the accused is a Protestant minister or Catholic priest, they are the most difficult to DISprove.

Though I think it's interesting that people here seem to be quick to dismiss allegations against the former, but believe them against the latter.

Sounds like a double standard to me.

Situations, (in this case, albeit alleged at this time) are commonplace in our churches. How do I know? Because my deceased Dad, who at the time was a minister in a large, full-gospel church, was approached by a tearful mother confiding that she felt her baby girl had been molested at the church daycare by the church pastor, and since the pastor was well-loved (Dad loved him as well) and the pastor was an upstanding community leader, she didnt know who to tell for she was afraid and felt no one would believe her and that the church would ostracize her, let alone accuse her of lying or gossip! The pastor was later found to be a pedophile! So, I say not all is gossip but truth we need to hear and not turn our ears from!

What is the concerns of people reading and commenting on this topic? Don't get caught up in the gossip and loose focus of what is at hand. God has his hands on this one and the truth shall prevail. I am going to continue to pray for all parties involved. Remember God is no respector of flesh, He is Spirit.

Satan is hard at work. Too hard! You better get close to God. You can not get too close to the living God-- Less your Faith is snuffed away. It's a ploy of Satan's, to put doubt and unbelief upon it's people in this world.
---catherine on 9/26/10

If charges are pressed, maybe.. however this topic is gossip that Satan loves for us to fuel, so lets not concern ourselves in his matter. If he did what he did YES it is wrong, but it's not our business in idol gossip.
---candice on 9/26/10

I agree totally.

I find it to be unbelievable how QUICK church folks -- even Christians -- are to judge someone and engage in the SIN of gossip. GOD will judge gossipers accordingly.

I also find it quite sad that most USA churches are either "afraid", and/or "unwilling", to tell their members that gossip -- like about this news subject -- is SIN. Gossip is another way that Satan works to "destroy" people and the church too.

Since the age of consent in Georgia is 16, it's not very likely.
