"Those who are to fish for men, must follow Christ....There can be no greater calling than to serve Christ full time with every effort of our lives...I don't care if you are the president, or king of England, your calling is not the greatest, hallelujah. Hallelujah, thank You, Jesus. Do not be proud. You are still just what you are. It is Christ who qualifies you, ohhhhh, thank You Jesus. If you were fisherman, you are still just a fisherman. Whatever, may be the case. Pay attention: In all the country He gave a common call, for all the commoners, I guess. However, to those that was given to Him by the Father,a special and particular call....God's people are called out.

The verse was a humorous pun made by Jesus. Nothing else!!!

But since most Christians are ignorant of scripture. They think this was the first time Jesus met these disciplea. Who when they saw Jesus walking on the docks, dropped everything and followed him. LOL!!!

HERE'S WHAT REALLY HAPPENED...

At the Wedding in Cana, they had laid plans for the ministry of Jesus. He instructed them to get their things together and He would meet them at Gallilee.
The disciples made arrangments for their replacements in their Fathers Fishing business and made sure things were taken care off in their absence.

Jesus was likely sitting at the docks chatting with their dads and when the disiples were ready to go, he said that to them.

The 1602 Geneva New Testament Translated out of Greek by Theodore Beza at I Iohn 2:2, And he is the reconciliation for our sinnes: and not for ours onely, but also for the sinnes of the whole worlde.

For men of all sorts, of all ages, and all places, so that this benefite belongeth not to the Iewes onely, of whome he speaketh as appeareth, verse 7, but also to other nations.

Wow! This is truly the Gospel.

Theodore Beza has been persecuted as being too hyper-Calvinist among other things. But upon studying the Geneva Bible more carefully, there is in effect nothing wrong with the teachings.

Moreover, even KJV-onlyites concede that their KJV was translated from Theodore Beza's Greek New Testament.

The 1560 Geneva Bible at I Iohn 2:2, And he is the reconciliation for our sinnes: and not for ours onely, but also for the sinnes of the whole worlde.

b, That is, of them which haue embraced the Gospel by faith in all ages, degrees, & places: for there is no saluation without CHRIST.

The Pilgrims and Puritans brought the Geneva Bible to North America. They of course, were not too pleased with the Church of England (Anglican).

The analogy is just as a fisherman will either cast a net, and allow the fish to gather in the net before the net is gently drawn into the boat, or they will cast a line and wait patiently until the fish bites to gently draw back line until the fish can eventually be gathered into the boat.
Likewise spreading His gospel is to be done in a like manner, with the boat representing the Christ. Jesus never force His gospel upon anyone, but rather met them where they were, presented His gospel to them in a way they could understand, and allowed them to come to Him with any question they may have had concerning it. He has empowered His disciples to do the same. Paul understood the precept. He demonstrated and clarified it well in 1 Cor. 9:20-22.

Fishers of men are: born again believers who bring in other people(sinners/the lost) to be saved. When we do this, we have gone fishing(so to speak) for someone who needs to be saved and/or hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. We all should be busy fishing(christians) until Jesus comes. This is part of the Great Commission. The Commission is: winning souls(fishing) Helping (sinners) to get saved and get their lives in order, while there is, yet time. This is one of our duties as a christian.

To winess means to demonstrate by the way we walk and talk that that Jesus is the Way!
To be a fisher of men, means to spread the good news around and attract people to the
source of the good news- Jesus Christ- our Lord and Saviour!

\\Isn't this what the Bereans did to verify what Paul said was true?
---Steveng on 10/6/10\\

Most of us have learned that very little catherine says is true, and usually flat out contradicts what the Bible actually says.

Examples: Her chuckling over the Egyptians being drowned, or rejoicing at the idea of people going to hell with "Hallelujah!"

Cluny: "\\You and Cuny must want me to do all the work. Well, I am not going to do all of the work for you guys. It's in there.\\

In other words, catherine, you admit you don't know where that verse you made up came from."

I'm the same way most of the time. I understand concepts instead of mistakenly taking verses out of context, but what I post is biblically correct. When people use verses, they only read the verse out of context, tarely reading verses before and after. Most of the time, when people ask for verse numbers, I usually ask them to search the bible for themsleves. Then they are "forced" to read for understanding.

Isn't this what the Bereans did to verify what Paul said was true?

catherine
Well, there is a Scripture which goes something like this, because, I've read it---"Don't try and pin your religion on someone else's sleeve because, they may not wear it.

Maybe I dont know?

Gal 2:14 But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?

Because I read the Bible, and it's obvious from almost all of your postings that you do not, catherine.

A very unchristian attitude to say the least. Christiandom would surely not have grown as it did if Jesus made replies to belittle others.

Not at all strange. People use the same concept when meeting new people - finding something in common to talk about, to find common ground, to create interest much like how Jesus approached the women at the well (well water, living water).

catherine,

I suggest your best answer would be to show Cluny (and the rest of us) just where that is. You claim to be so in touch with God, just ask Him to show you. That should not be any trouble at all.

Nowhere does the Bible say anything like this, catherine.

This is just another example of how we know you don't listen to the real God of the Bible.

Almighty God has allowed and helped me to be a fisher of men's souls! Even those who disagree with me and speak against me agree that I am a fisher of men souls.

How does this witnessing take place? How do we witness. Well how does someone on the witness stand witness in a trial. By their behavior, their kindness, by their smile,NO NO NO they witness by the word of their mouth. They use their mouth to tell(witness) about what they have read or know. The same method is used by men to witness for the Lord Jesus Christ.
If someone acceptss your witness and then calls on the name of the Lord they will be saved. Hence they are the (fish) that your witness caught.

Well, there is a Scripture which goes something like this, because, I've read it---"Don't try and pin your religion on someone else's sleeve because, they may not wear it. Most are die-hard hell bound people. Christians, you just keep praising your God, Jesus, the Blood and the cross. If others can praise their false gods, all the more, should men and women of God be praising the one true God...Jesus called His Apostles, they were to be prime ministers of state in His kingdom, "for He loves to choose the foolish things of the world, to confound the wise"....I believe if I were an unbeliever, I would try to get rid of my earthly wisdom and early knowledge. [don't do you any good, anyways], and maybe God will choose you.

And he began again to teach by the sea side: and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship, and sat in the sea, and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land.

And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. (some got away!)

When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost.

But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

So sad that so many people these days don't grasp metaphors or figures of speech.
---Cluny on 10/1/10

Matthew 4:19 "And He saith unto them, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men."

"Fishers of men", means seekers of men's souls. Notice that when Jesus saw them, He called out and they came immediately. There was no altar call, and begging to come with Him. They heard, understood and came immediately. Did they wait to straighten up their nets, and think about it first? Was there even a choice given to them?

When the truth of the living God enters your heart and strikes your mind, you will hear Him say "follow me", and there is no hesitation. You go! You know you have a destiny and a purpose.
