yeah, i see what you aretrying to say, but the verse is very different. EMPHASIS:

And they shall NOT teach every MAN his neighbour

So we are gauranteed that man shall not teach man, even if that man is godsent.
Also note that before the New covenant, men also taught men, and these men were Godsent.
Called many times prophets/ prophetess.

Can you imagine going to the New Jerusalem to worship God and being taught by another shepard?

Isaiah 2:2
Isaiah 2:3.. and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

trey, I believe the New Covenant promised to Israel will be complete when as the Author is quoting Jeremiah also concerns the Land and God's fulfillment to them at the end of the age.

The reason they will KNOW the Lord is because the Lord will actually be here reigning and ruling. It states too, He will be to them a God and they a people. However, the church is more than a people ..we are a New creature, and SONS.

Zechariah 12-14, Isaiah 14, Ezekiel 36 etc, is about this time.

Now, If that were a literal fact for the Church today, as we live by faith and not by sight, then there would be no need for the Gifts given to the Church: Apostles, teachers, evangelists, until we grow into full maturity Eph 4.

Many good answers here perhaps the best being,
"you must read several of the preceeding passages to get the meaning, but the short of it is the indwelling of the holy spirit,God says he will put his laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts.

Yes, that seems to be the great thing about religions today.
Everyone can believe whatever they want.
Read the bible and say "this is what I believe! This is saying."
Isn't that just great!

But, when I read "they shall all be taught of God," It is by god!
And if, this should come to you, by a man!
Then that man was sent to you by God!
But only to show you to trust God and his ways!
Who show all!

All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given.

Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you!

Hebrews 8:11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.

The only time i can think of when we will not need to be taught by other human beings, is in the new heavens and new earth.
And the only time that I can think of when ALL will know God is in the new heavens and new earth.

That is why i think that part of what this verse is saying is that the New Covenant ( which is what the passage is about) will extend even to the new heavens and new earth.

//Thats just it, he does send teachers.
But who has ears? //

Noone does because they all want to be teachers. They will even condemn you if you dont believe they are one.

Everyone wants to be Gods chosen one who leads and noone wants to be the servant.
---JackB on 10/29/10

Thats just it, he does send teachers.
But who has ears?

Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify, and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also?
Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn.

//Then why would God give the Goft of TEACHERS if the holy ghost was going to teach directly?

Not everyone that calls himself a teacher of God's word has been called of God. A good example in my humble opinion, would be Ellen White.

Secondly, while God has given His church teachers, etc. He did not promise that such would be infallible in interpreting the Word of God.

Last of all, only those that have prayerfully trained themselves to not only study the word of God but also to prayfully listen to what they Lord is trying to say in His word are the ones that truly would be of benefit to us.

Today we need more than ever apostles, prophets, teachers, miracles, gifts of healings, helps... For God is pouring out his spirit during these end days, but rarely a person listening to the truth.
---Steveng on 10/28/10

Hebrews 8:11 does not exist on it's own. To understand is to read it from verse 1 to 13 and to read Genesis to Revelation. That's why Scripture must confirm Scripture. If it doesn't, one will end up being confused.

We no longer need to trust a person to teach us the Word of God, but the Holy Spirit will teach us the Word of God if we ask Him to.
---Leslie on 10/28/10

1 Corinthians 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

1 Corinthians 12:29 [Are] all apostles? [are] all prophets? [are] all teachers? [are] all workers of miracles?

Ephesians 4:11 And he gave some, apostles, and some, prophets, and some, evangelists, and some, pastors and teachers,

Then why would God give the Goft of TEACHERS if the holy ghost was going to teach directly?

Heb 8:10 "For this is the covenant that I WILL(future tense) make with the HOUSE OF ISRAEL..(Not Church BOC)//

Good for you, Michael.

My belief is this is not about the holy spirit or the spirit of truth although they are cocomitant to developing our spiritual lives but the indwelling spirit that Paul spoke of in various times with different names. This spirit is known as 'the true light",the "inner man","indwelling spirit",the " Spirit that bears witness with our spirit",etc. This 'true light" is the spirit of God,the teacher of eternal righteousness who lives within us.

Hello! I serve a great God. The O.T. saints had a difficult time in forgetting their sins. When Jesus ascended into heaven He sent back the Person of the Holy Spirit. The O.T. saints had not the Person of the Holy Spirit living in them, He was only with them. God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, is the Trinity. All three, ONE GOD....The Old Covenant, was just a bunch of rules and laws, people had to follow, in order for God to love them and to make it to heaven, it was a tough deal. Who was righteous enough? All you need now, is the Blood of one man, one God, and you are in fellowship with God. YOU CAN KNOW GOD, YOU CAN KNOW THE LORD, YOU CAN KNOW YOUR SAVIOR.
---catherine on 10/28/10

This basicly talks about the Holy Spirit teaching people. We no longer need to trust a person to teach us the Word of God, but the Holy Spirit will teach us the Word of God if we ask Him to.

I think the blog question is limited to Hebrews 8:11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest

I do not think it is about the new covenant specifically, but what do you think about Hebrews 8:11 in view of the New covenant

The Old Testament concealed the New Testament and the New Testament revealed the concealment of the Old Testament.

And that is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ.

Luke 22:19,20 - "And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, This is My body which is given for you, do this in remembrance of Me. Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you."

The covenant God will make with the house of Israel will be 'not according to the covenant" He made with them on Mt. Sinai.

Some like to think that only the covenant spoken of in Hebrews 8:10-11 will simply be a re-hash of the old Sinaitic Covenant in which the Sabbath and other Mosaic laws will still be prominent.

Hebrews 8:9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.

Hebrews 8:11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.

What this tells us is that the New Covenant will be forever. It will extend beyound the second coming, and into the new heavens and the new earth, when we shall all know God personally, and learn from god personally.

Hebrews 8:12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

Hebrews chapter eight is comparing the old testament covenant from God which was written upon stone, and the New Testament covenant from God which is written in blood for ever upon the heart and memory of Christians.
---Eloy on 10/28/10

Hebrews 8:7-11 speaks of the prophesy from Jeremiah chapter 31. Tom is right when he said of the indwelling Holy Spirit in man.

This is confirmed by Christ in John 6:45, "It is written in the prophets, And they shall all be taught by God. Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me." & John 14:26, "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you."

John 3:3, "Jesus answered and said to him, Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

Read at least from vs 7,
But this is also a key verse

Heb 8:10 "For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel,..." (doesn't mention the Church, the BoC.
He first wrote on tablets of stone(physical)
"after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their(Israel) mind, and write them in their hearts:(spiritual) and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:"

Hebrews 8:11 > "'None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, "Know the LORD," for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them.'" God wants all of us Christians to get to know Him, by becoming how He is in love > "as He is, so are we in this world." (in 1 John 4:17) We know how our Groom Jesus is, by being all-loving like He in us is (Galatians 4:19) . . . so we are compatible with Him so we can spend all eternity together: "For if you love those who love you, what reward have you?" He says in Matthew 5:46. So, it means, "to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God." (Ephesians 3:19)
