Many of these very people say they are having a financial crisis or emercency, and need millions of dollars

They tell people if they want a miracle or blessing from God, they need to "SOW A SEED" send them their money.

If people are blessed by giving money, why are these people having a financial crisis or emergency? Hmmm, this should cause one to wonder who these people truly are and what they are truly about.

Why don't they sell their million dollar mansions, jets, and fancy cars?

Why don't they give instead of always taking?

Sowing your money or land or inheritance is similar to contributing to the Ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ on earth so that more souls can be reached and saved. On this let the Holy Spirit be your counsellor as to which group's ministry you should contribute to and what you should contribute.
---Adetunji on 12/21/10

Rod4him: Christians are ignorant to a lot of things. But did you know God's best blessings are reserved for those who are obedient and does His will. Did you know that? Or would this fall under your superstition category, too? Did you know that some christians are more blessed than others. You know why? They know how to use God's Word. The Word works and is real, if you know how to use it. Most preachers do. This is why they are the leaders and live well on the fat of the Land.

//I could sow $20 into my church ministry and believe God to answer an urgent prayer of mine.//

Robyn, the topic was giving money to get an answer to an urgent prayer, not sowing and reaping.

You stand by giving money to get an answered prayer? caution is to readers not to buy into this superstition. God answers prayers on its own merits in Christ, not on the basis of giving money.
---Rod4Him on 12/16/10

Rod4him: You have your beliefs and I have mine. God does look upon the heart. But giving is also important to God.How we handle our money and finances says a lot about the condition of our hearts. This is why God uses money to check our attitudes. We have to learn how and where to use this money. There are many preachers and leeches everywhere, looking to take some of that money off of you.You don't have to give to every church or ministry in the world.Seed money is used to bring blessings into your life. You sow(give) and you(reap)receive. That works even in the carnal world.Don't be ignorant.
---Robyn on 12/14/10

In 2-Corinthians 9:6- If you sow bounttfully you will reap boutifully. If you sow sparingly you will reap sparingly. Your money is the most important thing to you. When you give to the church you are really showing God how much you love him
And he will bless you. God does not need your money. Its your heart that he sees.

//I could sow $20 into my church ministry and believe God to answer an urgent prayer of mine.//

Really!! One can now buy answers to prayer. What will these prosperity folks think up next?

I have no doubt that sincere people believe this stuff, and just maybe God sees the heart and looks past the money. But please don't teach other people this stuff, it's embarrassing to Christianity.
---Rod4Him on 12/14/10

Robyn, what you wrote goes against what is written in Acts 8:20

I guarantee you will never ever hear Word of Faith/Name It_Claim It/Prosperity Gospel Preachers share this verse.
---Rob on 12/14/10

Rob: Christians are not to get into the world's way of doing things in the church. Christians sow, reap and share in the harvest. You can sow money into a person's life, into a ministry and receive a harvest. If you have a need, plant a seed. The seed would be(money)For instance. I could sow $20 into my church ministry and believe God to answer an urgent prayer of mine. The $20 symbolizes my faith. When God see someone using their faith, He can and will move quickly, for you. You are activating your faith. Similar to fasting. The book of Galatians speaks on sowing and reaping, harvesting. Yes it is biblical.
---Robyn on 12/13/10

Robyn, if people would study their Bibles they will learn that "SOWING SEED" has absolutely nothing to do with money, Mark 4:13-20.

Those people who attribute "SOWING SEED" to giving money have done what is written in Romans 1:25.

People also need to study what is written in 2 Timothy 3:1-7.
---Rob on 12/12/10

This is a sad testimony for christians. when someone has to ask this type of question. I know there are no stupid questions. If you don't know something you just don't know. A lot of christians get duped because they refuse to read their bibles and learn the things of God. Once you get born again, this is only the beginning of your journey. You will have to continue to pray, read, study your bible and grow in the Lord. This does not happen overnight. A young christian really need a mentor or a good church family to help him/her grow and mature. The things of God are not done as the world do things. This is where a lot of believers fail. They would rather believe a preacher over what the real truth of God says.
---Robyn on 12/12/10

Sowing and reaping is biblical . But who and what you choose to sow to, is strictly, up to you(the christian) . You should never give money to some preacher or organization you know nothing about. Over the phone, tv, church or anywhere. Some people are known to target christians and christian organizations with sad and untrue stories to get your money. We do not have to give or support everything. But we should give to good causes, sometimes. Helping our own families is a good place to start. God does not discriminate. Every preacher thumping a bible is not genuine, either. Keep that in mine before letting some slickster, wrangle you out of your hard-earned money.
---Robyn on 12/12/10

I do believe in sowing and reaping but not just sowing money. I think pastors and others in the churches now are using tactics to scare people and make a living off of the ill-taught and immature christians. They will take anyone's money who is not knowledgable about the things of God. Many athletes, entertainers with big bucks have given money to megachurches, thinking they are on their way to heaven. Not knowing the truth of what God requires. No one tells them any different. The pastor is made rich in the process. Living like royalty on earth while the members of his church, suffer. They usually suffer in silence.

wisdom & discernment has been replaced by blind obedience
---mike on 11/19/10

Rob, you are absolutely correct. We are to sow the seeds of the gospel. "they that sow in tears, shall reap in joy". It is hard to imagine how anyone can buy into t.v. preachers. I will give with a loving heart but only to my church and our missionaries.
---shira3877 on 11/19/10

Rob sowing seed can be anything, but not to TV ministers. In the Old Testament it was from crops of farmers, sheep, cows or whatever their farms produced. It was for priests, etc who served God and did not work to be provided for while commited to God's service. Now it's money and many other things. Bottom line,we are to support our Ministers. Matthew 10:9 Do not tale along any gold or silver or copper in your belts, take no bag for the journey or extra tunic or sandels,or a staff, for the worker is worth his keep. It's God's design, what you sow you reap. If you sow money into Gods work he returns it to you in abundance 2 Corinthians 9:6. You sow to the flesh you reap of that if to the spirit its of that, like begats like.

These pastors exploit the greedy and the gullible. There is no scripture to back up this teaching although they will throw a few verses at their congregations when necessary. Scripture is not used in context by these people.

They love the phrase "God will reward you 100 fold" but want this to apply only to money. If they give a pair of shoes to a begger they will not be too happy if God gives them 100 pairs of shoes.

I feel really sorry for members of such churches. They turn up at their churches in their old battered cars, seeing their pastor is his fantastic car, dripping jewels and gold chains and in the most expensive suit and cannot see that this scheme only works for the pastor himself.

I will also warn that we should not give just to get $ back, but out of obedience to God and His Word.
---Leslie on 11/18/10

The motive for giving should be giving, to give where there is need. IF we expect to get something in return, is it really giving, or is it investing? God loves a cheerful giver. We should give out of LOVE, not out of obedience.

In my opinion (and I know many will have a different opinion), those who tithe or give out of obligation have fallen from grace. I get this from reading Galatians 5:1-4.

Rob, A-men. It is blasphemy to misapply and equate The Word as being the same thing as Money, for God's Seed is not money. Throughout the scriptures The Seed is clearly stated to be The Word of God, The Gospel which is Sown in the hearts of people: the seed is not pieces of manmade metal from the earth and ascribed a value to use to buy things.

Darlene 1, the people who tie sowing seed to giving money have done what is written in Romans 1:25.

If you read Mark 4:1-20 you will see "SOWING SEED" has absolutely nothing to do with money, but "SOWING SEED" is sharing the TRUTH OF GOD'S WORD IN THE TRUE CONTEXT WHICH IT IS WRITTEN.

Malachi 3:10 Bring you all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in my house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts,if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. Luke 6:38 Give and it shall be given unto you, good measure, pressed down ,shaken together, and running over. For with the same measure you mete withal it shall be measured to you again. 2 Corinthians 9:6 - He which sows sparingly, shall reap also sparingly,he which sows bountifully shall reap also bountifully. The Bible teaches what you sow you reap whether it be money or anything else but it never has to be done to any particular ministry.
---Darlene_1 on 11/19/10

seed money is manmade, just as "name it and claim it" and "blab it and grab it" also is not from God.
---Eloy on 11/19/10

Sowing money is a scam by these guys that is nothing more than a pyramid scheme in which the televangelist gets richer and the poor people taken in get poorer.
If I was the Lord and people sent me money expecting more back in return I would be angered.
I imagine one day many will see the wrath of God from this foolishness.

...except for the seed salesmen.

If you ever meet one of them, ask them to plant a "seed" by giving you $1000, then see what you reap.

the only thing I sow is tithing & God only knows the amount given when I do.
---candice on 11/18/10

Your money is a seed that produces more money. Just as when you plant an apple seed you get an apple tree. It is the same principal. However, most of this prosperity preaching is NOT Biblical, and is used to make the Pastors/TV Preachers rich, while you remain poor and in debt. Prosperity Gospel is Biblical, but ONLY when used in a Biblical context. Most Preachers preach that "if you give me $1000, God will give you $1 million" - this is NOT Biblical. What is Biblical is tithe/offering, and sowing to reap (however, NOT sowing to reap $1 million, but to reap just what you need). I will also warn that we should not give just to get $ back, but out of obedience to God and His Word.
---Leslie on 11/18/10

Suzie, never do you read about Jesus saying give me your money and I'll work a miracle in your life.

It's all based on MAN-MADE sick corruption of man's minds.

Jesus said, the word is the seed. He never said to sow money, he said to sow the word, which is the sword of the spirit. Sowing the word is letting the word penetrate the hardness of our hearts, thus making it a heart of flesh, not a heart of stone.

Faith is a grain of mustard seed (per Jesus). That's all the amount you need to move mountains, but the revelation goes deeper and I'm sure the scholars here can elaborate on that.

It's exploiting carnal and immature Christian's greed and avarice.

I've never seen it work for anybody. I've even seen people get into financial messes after falling into this trap.

Jesus said, "Lay not up for yourselves treasures on earth. Sell all you have, give to the poor, and come follow Me."

In 1 Tim 6, St. Paul rebukes such people who are: "supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself....And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition."

So, what do YOU think of seed faith?
