Why is the Almighty God continuing to allow so much suffering? That [man] may know Him, and the (strength) power, (and ability) of His resurrection (a rising from it). And the fellowship, (association, and participation with and)of His [external] sufferings, [and inward passions], being conformed to His death, [through our experiences]. What is suffering but a trying of our faith? And we know that tribulation requires and produces patience, and patience, experience, and experience, hope, and [that] hope [will} not shame [us], because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit, (the direct divine inspiration of the Father givens us [during that suffering]), in Christ Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith

Brother, We'll suffer for sins or b/c of sins... Christ (Whom we're to follow) hath also suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit. Now it is better if the Will of God be so, that we suffer for well doing than for evil doing. 1 Peter 3:17-18

It helps to remember that this life is a temporary journey that will pass soon enough. Also, it's because we believe we shouldn't suffer that we sometimes end up suffering more.
We are created with free will. We serve the Father, but others, also created with free will, do not. Such causes suffering imposed on us by others. This, we wait for Messiah to deal with when He returns. We also create our own suffering when we lack wisdom, sin and make poor choices.
As an American, however, I'm aware that my suffering doesn't begin to compare to the suffering others endure on a daily basis elsewhere.
Suffering also passes with time and growth. Sometimes, we even grow to be thankful for the lessons learned from suffering.

Everyone on earth, of every faith or no faith, suffers in some way. There are many, many types of suffering...spiritual, psychological, physical.
Christians have better resources in Jesus, than others, to cope.
Why God allows this I cannot say. But suffering is often the impetus for us to make changes in our lives. This is so often true that people may actually consider the source of their pain an actual blessing in years to come.
And John is so right. Suffering allows us to receive help and love from others. Also to help others (a Biblical command)and to extend help in genuine understanding because we, too, have suffered.
Without any suffering would we not become selfish, complaining and lazy people?

Kathy--Obviously, you feel terrible about what is happenening to your mother (and what is being done to you).
But a couple of things confuse me. How could they take away your rights to visit your mother? Have you ever done anything to hurt her? And I know for sure that nurses who administer insulin to your mother, MUST do so ONLY under the direction of her physician. I don't see how your siblings can control that.
(Also if it's your mothers blood sugar that is 450, then she does need some insulin)
Perhaps you should sit down with a social worker or doctor outside the family and ask them to explain all that's going on, and help YOU to help your MOTHER.

Why do the wicked prevail over righteousness?
My heart is trampled, I have been raped from my identity. Two older syblings put my mother in assisted living 2 days before christmas in 2006. changed the locks on the home place drained her accounts and took everything. even sold the house. When they took away my rights to visit my mom, I went to court to get guardian. The older syblings contested it and had me sign an agreement to not hold there past financial misconduct. They were having the home inject my mom with insulin. levels up to 450. I know have guardianship of my mom for 2 years. These syblings constantly torment and are just wicked
How do you go on, when your family has thrown you down the well.

Suffering comes to make us stronger and wiser.Something we need to learn, a lesson in life that will help us to grow and mature. Someone else said it comes so others can show us compassion. That is good, too. But why do we have to suffer is a good question. I wish it were a better way. Sometimes suffering causes people to lose hope and become depressed. Some people just give up and commit suicide. That is so sad and unnecessary. When all hope is gone, our life is over.
---Robyn on 1/21/11|
We suffer in order that others may have the opportunity to show us compassion. :-)

Mike, Sept. 11th was because of sin. All manner of unrighteousness is because of sin. Farwel might have been pointing the finger at some groups, but it was sin that cause Sept. 11th, and until God removes sin from the world, you will hear of many tragic things happening in the world. When food is given to the the nations in Africa who are starving, many sinful man steal the food. It's sin within them that causes people to do those things. When America is bankrupt it is because of sin in man who steal all the money. They are moved by sin within them.

Don, this is the path we have chosen via Adam to do things are own way and we live with the result. We had a chance to do it God's way and said no thanks we have a better idea.
The resurrection of God's son, which we murdered, gives the suffering meaning and the promise that it is finite i.e. "the fellowship of his sufferings."

I remember 2 days after 911 when pat robertson & falwell went on the airwaves & blamed the attacks on liberals, gays, abortionist.
thousands suffer. did the liberals cause 911 bec. they 'sinned'? 911 is a curse & punishment?
but later on during the commission there was an intelligence titled BINLADEN DETERMINED TO ATTACK US and bush ignored the intelligence. so is pat robertson & falwell right that the cause of suffering is bec of the sins of the liberals, gays, abortionist? or is it bec. of neglect?

God is almighty, but there also is the reality of evil that exists.
It is foolish to let evil have our attention so much. It is foolish to allow evil to decide if we believe in God and have hope or not. Because evil will have us making the wrong choice, and endless news about evil can decoy our attention away from God.
"Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." (Romans 12:21)
There is deep suffering that we help to continue, by staying in weakness of unforgiveness witch degrades us so we can suffer emotionally.
---Bill_willa6989 on 1/13/11|
God also gets blamed for some things that man brings on himself. God allows us freedom to chose to serve Him or the world. So all suffering isn't allowed because God wants it that way. Some of it is because we're a stubborn, stiff-necked people who think we know more than our Creator & do things our way rather than His. On the other hand, if God chooses to allow us to suffer it's because He has a plan for that suffering. My sister was born with Spina Bifida & several of our family were saved as a result of watching her. She suffered badly all her life but she ALWAYS had a smile on her face & the spirit of mercy. It's not our place to question God's reasoning for anything. It's our job to TRUST & OBEY.

Mima the permissive will of Almighty God.
So then I take it you believe God is only permitting these things to happen.
Not actually making things happen.
Some time ago I remember some said God has two wills.
Just asking, if you believe God has two wills?
Because, I only see one and I cant explain.

ignorance. the suffering in haiti is an example. if the haitians would have separated the good water from the bad water, then cholera is contained
but pat robertson said 'suffering is a curse'
luke 13:10 the pastor said 'there are 6 days of work, so come & be healed on those days.' clearly this pastor is blocking so christ can heal the CRIPPLED WOMAN.

For the Joy set before Him, He endured the cross.
For the Joy set before you, endure the pain. When it's over, you will come out healed and renewed, trust me on this-I went through 3 years of suffering from miscarriages, crying every single night for 3 years, but for the Joy set before me, I endured and came out with Joy Unspeakable, The Glory of God, the essence of Him shines through me to people. I have HIM now and that's all you need is HIM.

"Why is almighty God continuing to allow so much suffering?"
For the same reason Almighty God is allowing us to continue to live for any length of time.
God is very long suffering so that he refrains from severing our will he has given us .God is very merciful so that he continues even till the very end of our days approaching our final decision knocking at the door of our souls to be let in.In no way will God restrict our will .
---earl on 1/11/11|
p.2.This,since you were not specific in how a person is suffering, is only one of many parts and reasons of why we suffer so much for so long.Who can list them all?
---earl on 1/11/11|
A person can embrace suffering if they will dare to step out and praise God for their suffering. We know this is acceptable because we know that no suffering or any other thing can happen to us except through the permissive will of Almighty God.

The imperfections of our lives are in relation to The entrance of sin into the world.
God allows humanity when by all rights he should have wiped it out in that rebellious event known as the fall of man. Humanity exists in a state of rebellion that God cursed. He allows it because he loves, it's his foremost nature, if God has his way his love would govern every action exclusively in his relation to mankind, and in a roundabout way it still does.
The effect of his curse has to stand because it was right for him to curse the action. It's not what he desired, but what justice demanded. The curse is lifted in Jesus Christ, he built the bridge to life again and the world awaits that moment when justice will finally once and for all prevail.

That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death.
I can't add any more than this. If you really want to know Christ be ready to suffer.
If you want resurrection power in your life be ready to suffer.
The Christian life is not for sissys.

If we dont know the bad times, we will never appreciate the good ones and will never know when to count our blessings.

Is there anyone here who thinks he is so righteous, he shouldnt suffer?
Or do you think there is anyone so righteous they shouldnt suffer?
1Pe 2:20 For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.
2Co 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
2Pe 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
Most gladly therefore!

That would be an unanswerable question if this life were all there is, but it's not the whole story.
This is the first verse that came to mind:
For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
There are various on-line Bibles. Look up the word "suffering" in the NT.
