I would point out there are many others we have not heard from on this subject.

While I am not a "soul winner" per se, I do witness to others of God's grace and tell them of His amazing love for us. Witnessing to the unsaved is a lost art, so keep it up mima.

On the other hand, I am a determined "disciple maker" in the 2 Tim 2:2 method:

2 Tim. 2:2 "The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also".

The world used to call this "train the trainer". However, God is always first with the best stuff.

sometimes the wisest words are words not spoken.

mima, you should learn from the example especially if you are so concerned about lost souls.

I have commented on this matter elsewhere by pointing out how Ezekiel says that all souls belong to God to start with, so for whom or from whom are you "winning" them?

And as St. Paul said, "I plant, Apollos waters, but God gives the increase."

Though I know, mima, that you want everyone to think you're someone special as you wave your collection of spiritual scalps around.

But as Jesus said, he who exalts himself shall be abased.

Proverb 11:30 says,

"The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life,"

This phrase speaks of the fruit of the righteous and that fruit is a tree
of life. Now what does the words "tree of life" refer to?? Could the tree of life possibly be the tree of eternal life like unto the one found in the Garden of Eden?

Would you except this interpretation of what this means?
---mima on 2/4/11

yes, it is the Lord who ultimately wins the soul. it is through the fruit of the Holy Spirit that we influence others in that direction.

in a way, through Christ, we are soul 'winners' and God wins the soul.

Preach the gospel to all the world.

Growing your vine.

The harvest is plenty, but the workers are few.

"How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!"

1 Corinthians 9:14
Colossians 1:23
Colossians 1:28
1 Thessalonians 2:9
2 Timothy 1:11
1 Peter 1:12

And each person you bring into the Kingdom of God will cover a multitude of sins.

Proverbs 11:30
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he that winneth souls is wise.

It appears there is a FOOL here on line who calls God's word a LIE.

The Bible mentions soul winning in lots of places. Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 16:15-18, Romans 10:14-15. If you are not soul winning as a Christian, you are in DISOBEDIENCE to God. If you are NOT saved, I encourage you to look up Luke 13:3, Romans 10:9-10, 1 John 1:9 - Repent and put your trust in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, and you WILL be saved. If you do not, you WILL die and go to Hell.

Is Soul winning important, is breathing important. The bible teaches that Jesus is the branch and we are the vines, and vines that do not produce fruit will be cut off. The results of evangelism is in God's hands, but we must follow the commission and tell the gospel.

Where does the Bible mention anything about Soul Winning? Sounds unbiblical to me.John.usa on 1/27/11 In Mark 16:15 Jesus tells us to " Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature"
Luke 3:3 Tells about John preaching the" baptism of repentance " That is soul winning

I don't expect that I'll be saved. But that's part of the plan, for the saved to be able to compare themselves favorably with the unsaved, so they'll feel good about themselves. So be grateful for what you have in Christ. ---John.usa on 1/28/11
John.usa If you are not saved it will be your choice Mark 16:16 tells us that" He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved, but he that beleveth not shall be damned."

no, that (pride) is not part of the plan. in fact, it is the antithesis of the plan.

//Prov 11:30b says he that winneth souls is wise...

So what is the flip side of that coin?//

Pro 11:28 He that trusts in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch (foreshadow). Pro 11:29 He that troubles his own house shall inherit the wind (flashback): and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.

I can't speak for most
Christians

Jesus said (Mar 16:15) Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

It's not our responsibility to see that they are "won" for the Lord. That's between the one hearing the Gospel and the Holy Spirit who convicts men of sin.

Leslie, I'm sure I'm quite disobedient. I don't expect that I'll be saved. But that's part of the plan, for the saved to be able to compare themselves favorably with the unsaved, so they'll feel good about themselves. So be grateful for what you have in Christ.

To most Christians soul winning may not be important at all. To God, soul winning is VERY important. So important, Jesus COMMANDED us to do so. If you are not soul winning as a Christian, you are in DISOBEDIENCE to God.

Elder, I hope so too.

The Bible doesn't state we are to be "soul winners" but positive witnesses for Christ. It has been my experience that if people know I'm a Christian, they will ask me questions concerning Christianity, and I take advantage of the situation to present Christ as Savior. After that it's up to the Holy Spirit.
---wivv on 1/28/11

Prov 11:30b says he that winneth souls is wise. So what is the flip side of that coin?
He that does not win souls is _ _ _ _ _.
Now if that doesn't say something about winning souls then nothing is right in the Bible.
People try to qualify their lack of care by denying the truth of the matter.
Soul winning IS a Biblical concept!
---Elder on 1/28/11

We are called to Preach the Gospel....the bible doesn't say anyting about "winning souls to Jesus." The Holy Spirit does that part.

We water and plant seeds and the Holy Spirit brings the harvest. Jesus said, "no one comes to me unless the Father draws them."
---Donna5535 on 1/28/11

It is important to show people the true gospel. It is up to them to accept it. Yes I want to help, and hope they accept Jesus as their saviour, but it is not my job to keep a tally going, God has them recorded in HIS book for HIM only to know. it is our job to proclaim, & show others his gospel his son came to remind us of.

Where does the Bible mention Bible?
A responce like this seems to come from someone who doesn't "Soul Win."
Hopefully someone who does not have your attitude reached or will reach you.

---Elder on 1/28/11

Winning souls? Was that in the Great Commission instruction given by Jesus Christ? I must have missed that one.

Anyways, all souls belong to God Almighty. The man who became a Christian was because of God's wonderful Covenant of Grace. The man's body, soul and spirit belonged and is in bondage to satan since the fall in Genesis 3. Unless God sets you free, you will always be in bondage to satan.

It is ludicrous to even suggest one has the power to "win souls" when his own soul is in bondage to satan. Is man more powerful than satan, I think not? But God is more powerful than satan, and it is He who will set one free from that bondage.
---christan on 1/28/11

I don't keep score of who I witness to, or who accepts Christ. I am more aware of how I am loving everyone, Christian and unbeliever, and being a faithful Christian and loving the people who cross my path, especially the homeless, addicts and alcoholics I minister with.
---Trish9863 on 1/28/11

Maybe the question would be better stated as How important to most Christians is witnessing, and that would be a hard survey to do. If we Christians had the power to WIN souls, we would also have the power to PREVENT them from coming to Christ. If a scripture seems to say this, find a better translation. Our duty is to display the fruit of the Holy Spirit, to DRAW others to Jesus: love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, faith, humility...

Acts 1:8

"but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth."

This is Jesus Christ speaking to his followers. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that He is talking about WINNING SOULS to Him.

That they will not perish and go to Hell, but join Him in Heaven. Now, that IS Biblical!
---Sag on 1/28/11

Soul winning is a lot like being a Monday Morning quarter back as you are trying to change the outcome of an event that has previously occurred. Paul states that God chose everyone who was ever going to be a member of his family prior to the start of creation. You can't save any one now because member ship in Gods family is now closed. God's grace and your salvation is irrespirable, no one is capable of turning it down. Repentance is a result of salvation not a pre condition for it. Our message and task as Christians is one of preaching the message of recognition so people will recognize their salvation at an earlier age so they can be effective servants for God's use.
