Seeking Eternal Things Of God

Most of the people I encounter have been deceived into seeking and chasing after the TEMPORAL things of this world and of men, which all one day pass away. Yet they don't care about the ETERNAL things of God. What are your thoughts and where do you stand concerning these things?

the world teaches us that success is measured by what you own and what your bank account looks like, what your retirement portfolio looks like, and what you possess.we are taught ti covets these things because with them we are successful, without them we are poor.

Be humble. Be aware of what really are the "eternal things" that God wants us to seek. And realize that copy-cat religious activities and outward conforming does not mean a person is seeking eternal things . . . but could be merely fitting in with leaders of a church group, feeling social pressure to do so, or feeling the threat of hell!

"rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God." (1 Peter 3:4)

I think the older we get we start to look to eternal things more often & more naturally than when we're young. I personally look at beautiful things here on earth & remember reading in 1 Cor. 2:9 that we have never even thought of the things that God has prepared for us in heaven. Man has come up with some beautiful things so it's very exciting to me to think of heaven & what is waiting for me. My eternal goal of working till I get there is talking as many people with me as I possibly can!!:-)

rob, I would ask as a believer what should we live for? what should our passion be?we all know ,yet most live for things,we are so literally bombarded by this world,by its trappings, setup in a society where survival of our flesh relys on our partiscipation.Iam having really big issues right now myself, being 61 years old and feeling like my life has been a failure. Iam so tired of the world,so tired of people,so tired of greed,of a world that truly believes that a wealthy man is a blessed man when he has money and power, and possessions, when he seeks acclamation from the world, and believes his fame and fortune make him a success.

if your dreams of fame and fortune rule your life,if acquiring things,or money,or anything other than God are, than you are dead already and dont know it.

"Where a person's heart is, there will be their treasure also. Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven where neither moth nor corruption nor thieves can break in and destroy."

We can't let what others think or do effect us. That's number one.

Number two, Paul the Apostle himself said they are all seeking after thier own interests. I'm not and you sound like you're not either. Some of us have the desire and revelation to seek after ETERNAL things of God and are doing that. How? By spending time in the secret place, by praying for the peace of Jerusalem. By sowing into the Kingdom of God, obeying the Word, doing the word, Worshipping God Our Father and The Lord Jesus. We are to love the Lord Thy God with all thine heart and soul first and foremost. And if you love Him that much, you will want to seek after HIM, not temporal things, amen?

What do you mean by Eternal?
---John.usa on 3/8/11

rob, entertainment, movies, fashion, talk shows, television, sports, bars, vehicles, even homes, the keeping up with the jones syndrome, coveting, money, porfolio, investing for retirement, people have just literally, and completely lost touch with whats important, seek ye first the kingdom of God and all this will be added to you, thats what jesus said, better yet what does it profit a man if he gain the WHOLE WORLD but loose his soul?
---tom2 on 3/9/11

Rob,thanks for this question.
It is very troubling to realize the truth of your question. All the world concerns itself with temporal things. And all people at some time or another must concern themselves with some temporal things however only the eternal things of God are worthy of constant pursuit. Now what are eternal things of God? Memorial monuments? (Let us remember Peter's intentions on the Mount of transfiguration). What about honors, great achievements, worthwhile projects, service to mankind, are any of these things eternal things of God?

When seeking things eternal of God again and again we must return to the pursuit of men's souls. A soul(which you can gain for God through witnessing) is the ultimate eternal thing of God. A soul gained for God will last on and on as the ages roll. A saved soul does not rust, does not tarnished, does not lose its value but remain forever a monument to your efforts. All this can be achieved by letting the Holy Spirit have his way with you. It is the desire of the father that you be a soul winner for him!!
