Before Time Of Grace

Why are many mainline preachers are going back to the times of Christ ministry on earth for instructions of living in this time of grace? Really sell all we have and give to the poor, leave our wife and all family ties to follow Christ?

Christian comes from two words Christ follower. this means Christ should be our example. Jesus did not say grace alone, but He has always been about truth and grace. Jesus commands us to follow his commands, Is he calling you to do one of these things?

They know nothing of right division

I guess I do not listen to these preachers. Many preachers are trying to make themselves rich at the expense of Christians. That I see and hear all the time.
---Samuel on 3/29/11

Allan, your answer is the best answer to the question put to everyone. It is very true, that grace has always been with us, from the very beginning.

It's because many greedy ministries today WANT you to give THEM all your money. Aren't they poor mouthing all the time?

As far as leaving wife and family, haven't heard that one.

My favorite is the Passover auctioning off of God's Angels.

Just give Paula White $2011.00 towards her Passover Offering and God will immediately dispatch 2 Angels to you.

Yep! they mow my grass, do my dishes. They "DON'T WASH WINDOWS"!

There was never a time, in the history of the universe, when Grace was absent. Grace has always been the medium through which God, the Creator, of the universe, deals with each member of the human race.

//There was no mystery either of any kind.//
Of course there was no mention of a mystery, until it was revealed to Paul(rom 16:25)If it had been revealed to the 12 how could it have been a mystery revealed to Paul?
What do you suppose happened to this little Jerusalem church when this money ran out?
Acts 1:11 is speaking of His 2nd coming as also prophesied in Zech. 14

Michael e, I thought you were speaking about chapter 1 since you gave chapter and verse 1:11.
Concerning what you said though, nothing was mentioned concerning the Second Coming of Christ. There was no mystery either of any kind. The Apostles with great power gave witness to the resurrection of Christ. And when the people believed they received the Holy Spirit, and sold everything and put the proceeds at the Apostles feet and they in turn distributed to each an anyone had need.

Jasheradan, thank you for the Colossians scripture
---michael_e on 3/21/11

Absolutely, Michael. Scripture confirms by in the words of Christ and Paul (led by the Holy Spirit) that men in the old days didnt know the mystery revealed to us now.
---Jasheradan on 3/21/11

Colossians 1:

24) Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:

25)Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God,

26) Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, BUT NOW is made manifest to his saints:

27)To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

OT men did not have the Spirit of the Living Christ.

//MarkV There is nothing about selling everything, putting the money in a kitty//
Read Acts 4:32-37 about selling everything
They expected Christ back sooner than 2000 yrs as Acts 3:19-21 affirms
They had no idea of the MYSTERY of the body of Christ revealed only to Paul that would last 2000+ years.
---michael_e on 3/21/11

Michael e, I have read Acts 1 all the way through and did not find anywhere what you said. The apostles were to wait for the promise of the Father, which He said, you have heard from Me. And He was talking about the been baptize with the Holy Spirit. As they watched Jesus accented to heaven, two witness appeared and told them that the same Jesus they saw go to heaven, will also come in like manner as they saw Him go into heaven. There is nothing about selling everything, putting the money in a kitty, or about any mystery. Since Jesus had already said, "you have heard from Me"
---Mark_V. on 3/21/11

Acts 4 & 5 concerned the jewish congregation at jerusalem, where they sold everything and put the proceeds in a common kitty, waiting for the return of Christ(ref acts 1:11)having no idea of the mystery that was still future.
---michael_e on 3/20/11

Chris, you have taken Scripture meaning in each passage wrong.
When Jesus spoke of selling everything, it was to make a point. Can a person leave everything for Christ or keep his riches instead? to proof what you love most.
When He said leave your wife, he did not mean for everyone to leave their wives, because He teaches to love our wives, leaving them is not showing love, also, each man should have his own wife 1 Cor. 7:2, also "he who finds a wife finds a good thing, And obtains favor with God" Prov. 18:22. How about selling everything, if all genuine Christians sold everything how would they go through life? Are you saying God will provide? I really don't think so. He made us able to provide for our own.
---Mark_V. on 3/19/11

I've not noticed any mainline preachers selling all they have and giving to the poor--or even lay Christians, for that matter.
Why I wouldn't even do that myself.

These "Mainline" idiots need to follow through on their
Journey of stupidity....

THEY WILL NEED TO ALSO...

1) REMOVE THEIR HANDS
2) REMOVE THEIR FEET
3) REMOVE THEIR EYES

MATT: 18:7-9

"If your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away."

"And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away."
