I'd say that spiritual abuse can come in several forms but one I've seen several times is where leaders of certain churches insist that ALL members should be able to speak in tongues and they will almost force them to try. Some fake it to try to please leaders so I'd say that is spiritual abuse but I'm sure that others will have different examples.

Let us, build in contrast to Ge 1:26 Let us make

Hi chria,
There is some much to this.

Priest leading the people to break the commandments (Spiritual abuse). They worshipped the creation vs the Creator.
*Ez8:16 [Portico/porch- the place appointed for the priest to stand with the burnt offer/sacrifices/sin offering. (Kordan),1Kg 7:6-8,Ez 40:39-42,Heb 8:5

There's a lot of spiritual abuse right here on these blogs.
---God.is.everywhere on 10/23/11

char, still "chewing" on all this, and may be for some time...very much a blessing. I read through once quickly, then again, and since yesteday was a long day with my free time broken into many little bits, I'd take a morsel here and there as able...I'd usually prefer a longer stretch of time to study, but since unable, this has been interestly beneficial, enabling me to digest a small piece at a time as I went about my duties.
---chria9396 on 10/23/11

Char, thank you for the reference. Checking out Ez 7,8,9. Not much time now, would like to dig deeper. A few things, what do you know of Ez 8 vs 14 "..mourning the god Tammuz." Ill look up, but unknown to me. In any case, an idol... Vs 16 "between portico and alter", does portico have any specific significance as far as you know?
Ez 9:3-5, sealed. Rev 7:3
Vs 6, "begin at my sanctuary". House of God
Vs 9,10, interesting, "they say"
Hope to be back later...

Joseph, "James warned, "My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment." Jam 3:1
Jesus made it clear "Don't let anyone call you 'Rabbi,' for you have only one teacher, the Christ, and all of you are equal as brothers [and sisters]." Mat 23:8
Spiritual oneupmanship has no place in the Kingdom of God. "But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant." Mat 23:11" I agree.

"Judgment begins with the house of God. That does include us individually, doesn't it?" Yes chria9396. However, as James warned, "My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment." Jam 3:1
Jesus made it clear "Don't let anyone call you 'Rabbi,' for you have only one teacher, the Christ, and all of you are equal as brothers [and sisters]." Mat 23:8
Spiritual oneupmanship has no place in the Kingdom of God. "But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant." Mat 23:11

Thank you Mark. It is always my pleasure to share.

Joseph, very wise and true words you give for spiritual abuse. Abusing what God has given us to not only help others but to bring them to a better understanding of the truth. Especially those who are just starting their walk with Christ. Thank you brother.

joseph, I have read your posts for the spiritual pride blog as well as spiritual abuse blog. Amen to both. I believe they are closely related. Pride comes before the fall, spiritual abuse may be a manifestation of that True, we all need to take heed so we do not think more highly of ourselves then we ought. In the abuse blog, you stated, Judgment begins with the house of God. That does include us individually, doesn't it? Without personal humbling before the Lord we cannot see clearly, and might be susceptible to such leadership mentioned. I've thought, prayed, read, written a lot concerning all this, and have had a difficult time with it,being troubled by a number of things.
---chria9396 on 9/20/11

Yes chria9396 it is something to think about. Judgement will began in the "House of God." Spiritual leaders are called to give meat to the LORD'S household in due season. Woe to those who are like the Pharisees of Jesus' day who " travel[ed] land and sea to win one 'proselyte', or newcomer to the faith, and when he is won, make him twice as much a son of hell as [themselves]." Crushing people with unbearable religious demands, and never lifting a finger to ease the burdens they lay upon them, usually financial. More than willing to receive from the poorest of people under the treat, exploitation, and misapplied promises of Mal 3:8-12, but rarely offering to give. That is most definitely "Spiritual abuse."
---joseph on 9/17/11

joseph, I believe you are correct. Reading your words, plus the whole chapter..A lot to "chew" on.
---chria9396 on 9/16/11

"What is Spiritual abuse?
Religiously exploiting others with deceptive words. Speaking evil of that which one does not understand. Covetously receiving the wages of unrighteousness while enticing and misleading unstable souls. Alluring through the lust of the flesh those who have escaped from those who live in error. Promising liberty, while being a slave of corruption. Ref. 2Pet. Chap. 2

Spiritual abuse is blaspheming the Holy Spirit or coercing anyone annointed or who is a priest prophet or Holy person which causes lies false prophesizing. Its also spirits entering the body and using your body or mind for its body
---leigh on 9/14/11

Hi,yes...Paul is correct, hope you get bk.now far as man's spiritual abuse, believe it could mean like a Cult / over lealous leader who goes out of God's will & way over the top! Pushing all, esp. young people to "extremes" going beyound! correct. The bible speaks of false prophets.Mt7:15, 2Pet.2:1
---ELENA on 9/13/11

"nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock." (1 Peter 5:3) So, by trying to lord myself over others, I am abusing.

Also, "Do all things without complaining and disputing," (Philippians 2:14) By arguing and complaining, I am being spiritually abusive.

Whatever is really in me can spread to spiritually effect others to make them the same way.

"rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God." (1 Peter 3:4)

Unforgiveness and the silent treatment are abusive.
