have a preacher that preaches the truth, a congregation that loves people and make visitors feel welcome. Godly music and Godly preacher that lives what he preaches.

From a church bulletin-

In the Bible Christians are connected to a community of believers in the Lord Jesus who love God, His Word, pray and worship together regularly, eat together frequently, take care to watch over each other's needs, and together demonstrate the love of Christ to the unbelieving world. When God saves us by His grace, He also adds us to His church, His people, the body of Christ.
The Church then is not something additional or optional. It is at the very heart of God's purposes. Jesus came to create a people who would model what it means to lIve under His love & rule.
If you are interested in learning more about church membership in our church, please see an elders or the pastor.

What is needed is by each to set an example - of LOVE and compassion towards one another. Examples: the Women at the Well, The Good Samaritan.

God is the only person to increase that which is planted.

Love this post Steveng. In real time world, the woman or the churches today would shun her and her them. She had 5 husbands (kindoms). She was a Lost Sheep of Israel.

The disciples wouldn't even have anything to do with her!
Love how she recognized immediately, Christ's analogy's. Knew of a messiah coming, and went to get the men....who had discussed around her as well. She had "ears" and "eyes".

Yeah, Steveng this is the ground floor stuff.

RECRUIT? churches should preach the gospel not make people MEMBERS of the church.
churches ARE BECOMING MORE & MORE of a business for money & not to welcome the alienated, ostracized, hurting.

where does in the bible say that christianity is about MEMBERSHIP.

oh yeah, give your weekly membership fee so your pastor/televangelist get paid well, fly in private jets & live in multi million $$ homes.

Worldly denominational churches allure people using modern and not so modern marketing concepts: potlucks, retreats, seminars, concerts, entertainment, sports, or any other worldly marketing concepts.

Most people already know about the hypocricy of christians belonging to denominational churches. What is needed is by each to set an example - of LOVE and compassion towards one another. Examples: the Women at the Well, The Good Samaritan. Matthew 5:14-16

Spread the word of the true Gospel - the Kingdom of God. Luke 12:8-9, Psalms 26:7

God is the only person to increase that which is planted.

Churches every now and then come up with a theme-regular seminars, retreats are always there.
There are also fun filled activities for youth like sem-break seminars, concerts, ice cream party..i think church should not always just be a place where people think its boring place. It should be alive and always arouse the interest of people.
aside from this activities, the most essential way is a genuine concern for each members, where each one can feel they are members of one another.

Once you know the characteristics of you church you are ready to start developing a church growth program. If you are in a mainline demonization you have specialist in the area use them. If you are not a connectional church there are church growth and stewardship consultants available. If you dont have the recourses for consultants your bet is to get on the Internet and start doing searches on " Church Growth Programming ". There is a lot of resources out there and it is going to take a lot of exploration and time to find a program that is going to meet the needs of the characteristics of your church. Recruite is not the best word, we are not the army, navy,or any other "recruiting". We should set an example and preach the word. Usually word of mouth of the church or a friendly invitation is the way.If they accept great! if not then maybe God has another church home for them.

Our church goes door-to-door once a month telling people about the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit is doing a wonderful job of drawing people to Jesus. The church is growing in numbers, but especially in salvations with lives changed.

The Mormon church program is highly successful in recruiting members to their denomination. They do this by going door to door with their 2 year missionaries and finding people that have needs they can met. If you are unemployed, they will find you a job, if you are loney, they will make friends with you, if you need money, they may even give you that, and by all means they will bond with you and provide you with literature.

In reading the Book of Mormon if you experience a warm feeling in the chest, that confirms that it is the Word of God and then they have you hooked.

Of course, if one believes they get your ten percent which in turn enables them to provide more literature and finance other expenditures.

our church uses a very revolutionary system, we speak about Jesus.
---andy3996 on 11/16/11

Did Jesus tell us to recruit members, or make disciples? (Hint--see end of Matthew 28)

Glory to Jesus Christ!

"They zealously court you, but for no good, yes, they want to exclude you, that you may be zealous for them." (Galatians 4:17) There are people who will treat you with such enthusiasm and like you are so great, but in order to get you to feel they are so great. Then, once they get you hooked on their social acceptance, they can reel you in to do what they want and praise them.

My church won me by being my example who could minister to make me better in the Holy Spirit's love > "nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock." (1 Peter 5:3)
