Praise God! yes,I believe as we grow & abide in His will,we get closer to the image of God,love, gentleness longsuffering, meekness, not given over to bitterness, hadred, malice, greed, selfishness.. 1Jn.1:9,1Cor.5:7therefore if any man be in Christ,he is a new creature: old things are passed away, behold, all things are become new.

I see your point MarkV. Thanks for sharing.

Joseph, the way I see it is this way, Jesus nature is love, and when we are brought to spiritual life, we receive Jesus Spiritual Divine nature, which is Godly. When we speak concerning Christ it is His nature that comes out as Spiritual waters that bring salvation, and the reason we give Him the glory. He is the One who saves us. Love it the ultimate gift we receive.
"But when That which is "Perfect" has come then that which is in part will be done away" 1 Cor. 10). And concludes
"And now abide faith, hope, love, these three, but the greatest of these is Love"
---Mark_V. on 12/10/11

"Is love also a spiritual gift?" No.
The gift is the Holy Spirit. Love is a product of the Spirit that we are privileged to share. Although to love is a command, to share or not to share that love remains our choice. A choice that should be a matter of reflex for the chosen. For the Love of God has been shed abroad in our hearts by HIs Spirit. Rom 5:5

i agree totally, what iam saying is the world doesnt know what love is,only a born again christian has experienced it,and many of them never live it.
---tom2 on 11/30/11

I agree totally on what Christan said,
"All man can love one another in this world but if their love is not in Christ, who's God, that love is useless, it cannot save them from damnation. For indeed, it's God's love that saves a man from his sins, and when that happens, His love will be manifested in the sinner"
God's Love is a gift. He gave us His only begotten Son who is Jesus Christ. He is love. For indeed it's God's Love which saves us, and His Love will be manifested in the sinner once He is born of the Spirit. Anything we do without that Love means nothing.
---Mark_V. on 11/28/11

Just before the "love chapter", we have 1 Corinthians 12:31 > "But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way." Then in chapter thirteen, Paul talks about love. I see that love is not just a "gift" but "a more excellent way" > a "way", not a "gift" > the way to live, the way to love > we need to "walk in love" (Ephesians 5:2). Walking can mean every single or every m-a-r-r-i-e-d footstep (c: not just at certain times of operating a gift. And God's love has us pleasing Him in His love's "incorruptible beauty" (1 Peter 3:4) and the "fragrance of Christ" (2 Corinthians 2:14-15). So, just loving people is not all there is to it.

When one has freely receive the gift of love from God, he must keep that love alive by freely sharing it as well, even with his enemies, this love can then echo back at him from a close distance or from afar.

tom2, you can disagree with me all you want, it's fine with me. I've only shown you one part of Scripture (and there are many more) that Christ declared, "But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you." So what does this mean?

All man can love one another in this world but if their love is not in Christ, who's God, that love is useless, it cannot save them from damnation. For indeed, it's God's love that saves a man from his sins, and when that happens, His love will be manifested in the sinner.

Therefore, only the Christian experience this gracious love of God when he is born of the Spirit.

christian,i must dfisagree with u,there is only one kind of love,we can believe there is another but only one. yes there are different types agape, etc, but the love we profess for worldly things is not love ,better described as lusts of the flesh.

"And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape. And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not."

Search the scriptures, for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. I receive not honour from men.

But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you. I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?"
John 5:37-44

There are only two kinds of love. One that's rooted in the sin nature of the man and the other, rooted in the Holiness of God. One is carnal and the other is Spiritual. One is within us from the day we were born into this world and the other only if God has elected you into His fellowship of His Son Jesus Christ, He freely gives to you when you are born of the Spirit.
---christan on 11/18/11

Love is from God. Beloved let us love one another, for Love is of God, etc.,

I do think Love is a Spiritual Gift. God is Love. God so LOVES the world that He gave.
Jesus said, "apart from me you can do nothing."
How can we love the unlovely? without the power of the Holy Spirit to do it? It is HE that works it within you.

I think I'll do a study on LOVE. Thanks for this question.
