Kevin, i do the same to you. If you are going to put down Scripture, it has to be interpreted correctly. Especially if you are trying to make a point. Let's just leave it at that. I cannot make you believe anything. All I can do is give you the meaning of the passages. You can do what you want. Scripture only has one meaning God wanted to convey, it might have many applications, but only one meaning.
---Mark_V. on 1/5/12

Mark V ,Bro i offer no interpretations of any script,i just copy/pasted what it say's...if You desire to interpret it? all i can encourage You is,be careful...

I share this to show no matter how much God uses man showing him things to come it doesn't mean that person is a prophet. God began showing me things to come from before I was even a teenager. He showed me the end of the world as it especially related to some of my family. Through the years there have been other things I've seen, dreamed,or had feeelings not to do as God has guided me or warned me in life. I am no Prophet only a very blessed child of God who God has given enough credibility when I say God has shown me that others listen. God shows me things to come so I can cover that in prayer for people. I just trust and obey, and pray. I am nothing but a servant,I do nothing,God is all. A Prophet is nothing but a spokesman of God.

Are there real prophets of today? We have those written in the Bible. Since that time have there been any real prophets?
There are those that have come and started their own religion, each claiming theirs is the only way. Yet can they be seen as prophets? Or have they caused dis-unity where once there was unity? Have they made the church dis-functional and set Christian against Christian as we see on here at times? I don't know.
Prayer take time out to pray, deep meaningful prayer. You will either be given strength to accept the situation or it will resolve itself.
The world enters very difficult times faith will be tested. Over the coming years there will be many changes. We all know this.

//If you cannot find the answers to your questions in the words of Jesus then you are either not studying hard enough or you are looking down the wide road for a way out instead of having the courage to find and follow the narrow road which leads to eternal life.//

Good paraphrase of paul's words.

Kevin, you be careful what you say. Your interpretation of the passages are wrong. (v.17) says "That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh" We already know only believers receive the Spirit of God.
Second, (v.19,20) "I will show wonders in heaven above and signs in the earth beneath, Blood and fire and vapor of smoke" I've seen many false prophets but no fire. Next "The sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood" I have not seen any blood on the moon. Matthew was quoting Joel 2:28-32 that prophecy would be fulfilled at the Coming of the Lord. Kevin, the only way anyone can know if a prophet is speaking from God is if what they say is already in Scripture. Scripture closed.

Eloy:

What language is "mycoh leecoh induron", and what does it mean?
---StrongAxe on 1/1/12

Bro Mark
Acts 2:17
And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

Acts 2:18
And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit, and they shall prophesy:

Be very careful my friend, very careful....
GOD is gonna do what HE say's HE is gonna do,and HE does not need the approval of mortals,or halfbreeds, for that matter.
---kevin5443 on 12/31/11

Jesus was the greatest prophet of all. If you cannot find the answers to your questions in the words of Jesus then you are either not studying hard enough or you are looking down the wide road for a way out instead of having the courage to find and follow the narrow road which leads to eternal life.

//if someone speaks tongues (and interprets) or says thus saith the lord, how can it be any different or revealing other than what was already written?
---aka on 12/31/11
I believe all that needs to to be revealed has been revealed. (Heb. 1:1,2)
---michael_e on 12/31/11

There has not been an extra Biblical prophet yet that has understood the revelation of the mystery of Christ given to Paul. They all seem to take their notes from the prophets of Israel (Elijah, Isaiah, John the Baptist, Jesus in his earthly ministr, Peter).
---michael_e on 12/28/11

agreed.

another question...

if someone speaks tongues (and interprets) or says thus saith the lord, how can it be any different or revealing other than what was already written?

"mycoh leecoh induron, says the Lord, and you all will seek me and find, when you all will search for me with all your heart."

Kevin, God gave us discernment to know if what is been taught is truth. If we cannot make a difference at our church and the teachings are wrong, we can leave if we cannot edify it. But we need to join a good teaching church. And there is many good ones. It took me some time to find a good one when I moved, but I did. There is questions we can ask when we are looking for a good church. In the last days, there will be a lot of false teachers, but the Elect cannot be deceived. Concerning prophets, there is no need for any, for they cannot give you something not written already in Scripture. If they did, they would not be able to authenticate it came from God. We know the prophets in Scripture spoke from God, the reason they are in the Word of God.
---Mark_V. on 12/30/11

all i can say is,GOD's Prophets are Alive and Well...

Mark V , i not trashing the Body of Christ,i just saying, many claim to be,but they fruit's show otherwise):

Kevin brother Part 2, let me make something clear. Not all churches are of Christ. That is for sure. Leaving one which is bad is good, but you need to find one which is good. The fellowship between brothers and sisters is very important. Those who are genuine believers can bring the reveal word of God to you. Some area's in our life that we might not know about yet, and the Spirit wants to help you on. But just abandening or rediculing the Church of Christ is what I'm against. Christ paid too high a price.

Kevin, brother, we are told by Jesus the visible church of Christ was going to be mixed. Second we are commanded to edify the church not to abandon it. (Acts 20:28) this exhortation is given:
" Take heed unto yourselves, and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you bishops, to feed the church of the Lord which He purchased with His own blood"
In additional expression "with His blood" identifies the act of purchase as related to the death of Christ. Paul in (1 Tim. 3:13) tells us that the church of the Lord is especially precious because of the high price which was paid. Now, we can bash the Church or edify the Church. No one who is born of the Spirit should abandon the Church of the Lord.

"If you possess the spiritual Gift of Prophecy you are a Prophet." I don't know who said that, not to dispute your word, but to share this information with you. Just because a person is blessed to be used by God to Prophesy doesn't mean they are a Prophet. To see what a true Prophet is one must study the Old Testament and learn what the Prophets of old did. They also healed the sick, raised the dead, filled the food barrel and other things, they were true servants of God and man and what they did showed God's power and their commitment to God. They had not one gift but many.

Steven, if you live in the U.S.A. everyone has ties to the goverment in some way. We all pay property taxes, state taxes, and follow goverment rule or else the places are closed.
What you are implying again that today churches are not of God, but I'm here to tell you again, that many are and many are not. Any gathering of believers is called the visible church of Christ. Whether you like it or not.
---Mark_V. on 12/21/11

Any worldly church that has ties to the worldly government belongs to the worldly government.

I can tell you where some people THINK they are. The Watchtower says all the JWs are prophets and/or their president is a really, really special one. The Mormons reckon their president is a living prophet.

Beat that Christians!
---Marc on 12/19/11

Cluny: "That's why you find them ONLY in Orthodoxy."

You are so vain to think your "church" is different. It's not. Your Orthodoxy "church" is just as denominational as all other worldly churches. The true church of Christ does not have buildings or the wealth within. It consists only of people without the material wealth.
---Steveng on 12/19/11

You know, Steveng, your railing against what you call "worldly denominational churches" does a poor job of concealing the simple fact that the self-starting conventicle you attend is not of apostolic foundation, and hence does not gather with Christ, but merely scatters.

How does that sound?

Glory to Jesus Christ!

Why do we need prophets? We have Christ.
Luke16:16 The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.
Here is our Christ:
Isa9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Again, why do we need prophets?
Heb1:1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
Heb1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds,
---trey on 12/19/11

Keith, why do you need a prophet? I for one have no clue why anyone needs a prophet today. What can he do or say that is not in already written in God's Word? Can he tell you how to live your life different then what is written in the Word? or can he tell you at what time Jesus is coming? Do you want hear garbage like what Steven just posted? It was stuff he made up that came from his heart for the hate he has for the gathering of believers, the Church of Christ. Any sinful bias person can say what he wants and feels. Can you be sure you are getting a prophet of God when you ask for one? You might just get what you ask for and it will not be from God. All we need for our lives is written in the Word of God already. Read it, so it can help you.
---Mark_V. on 12/20/11

"But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men." (1 Corinthians 14:3) So, a real prophet is involved in all our life in Jesus, not only for getting some "word", now and then, when we decide we want to hear from God. But all the time God has His word for us, so we are built up in His love (edification), charged up with His love's energy of grace (exhortation, encouragement), and stable and sound in His love (comfort which makes us sound and strong, not just feeling good). So, prophesy is a love ministry, not only a practical word thing.

You will not find true prophets of God in, or belonging to, worldly denominational churches.

For those who believe that prophets are no longer needed in today's world will be the ones that exchange gifts with one another when the last two prophets of God are killed as spoken of by John in Revelation. These prophets will be hated by denominational churches for they do not conform to any of their doctrines.

Looking for a prophet to speak with? Cry out will all your mind, heart and soul to God for your request - and do it with heartfelt sincerity. And be patient, they need to travel a long distance.

Something else about a true elder/eldress.

This person will be very humble.

On the other hand, in my day I've met a lot of wannabee elders with delusions of adequacy.

Glory to Jesus Christ!
---Cluny on 12/16/11

All of God's prophets are in Paradise. Why do you seek the prophets when God has left you with the Holy Bible, specifically written by His prophets? Is His Word (the Holy Bible) insufficient for you?

Do you seek to walk by sight or by faith, is the real question to be asked.
---christan on 12/15/11

Study the Bible so you will know how God moves in different situations in the Bible to encourage you God can move for you. Pray for God's leading in all you do,expect to have God's leading. Praise God for all he does for you. Make sure you are in a right relationship with God. Then, stop seeking after Prophets for a Word from God,if God wants you to have a Word from him like that he will arrange it ,he doesn't need man to arrange it for him. Anything God tells people in a personal prophecy will only confirm what God has already dropped into your heart, soul, mind, and spirit to do. Futhermore whatever God tells you will line up with the written Word of God. God isn't a Fortune Teller.

Prophets of God portray the truth of God's word. And as such, we find them in the ministers of His church today.

I do not believe one needs to have a brick slammed into ones head to become a prophet of God, only needed is a calling.

Ellen White was a false prophetess and that is evident to those who have discernment.
---lee1538 on 12/15/11

You can get a word from God yourself if you study His Word.

God's word is His Voice, His Voice is His Word.

In Him we live, and move and have our being.

The prophetic is usually for a condition of man or situations on earth that is either going to happen or will happen in the near future.

If you want a Word from God, just ask Him, then seek Him where he lives, in HIS WORD. The Bible.
---anon on 12/15/11

This is a ministry the Orthodox Church calls "eldership", from the Greek word GERONS and the Slavonic word STARETS. Of course, these words have feminine forms, it's not given only to men.

A true elder/eldress will be Orthodox in faith, of unimpeachable moral life, and will NEVER claim to be such.

Glory to Jesus Christ!
