As for Tim or any other man who openly prays to be seen of men they are playing with a DIRECT WARNING from Christ//

Where do you draw the line.

Revivals? Before Congress, My daughters kindergarten teacher befoore a picnic...yes public school, that was 30 years ago..

They were/are all SEEN of men!

So should we leave it up to Rhonda to DECIDE who can and can't?

Did Jesus actually FORBID open prayer?

Please show that verse Rhonda. Show where Jesus FORBID open prayer!
---kathr4453 on 1/24/12

WOW Rhonda, not only judgemental towards Tim, but now judging anyone who finds no fault in his openness?

Per Holy Scripture those who openly make a show of prayer are doing so to be seen by men if you want to LABEL me as the "judge" I cannot take credit those are the WORDS of Christ I DID QUOTE Scripture

As for Tim or any other man who openly prays to be seen of men they are playing with a DIRECT WARNING from Christ

although highly telling those who DEFEND a man they do not personally know because HE made a show of praying

Actions do not always EQUAL a "pure" motive

why Christ INSPIRED True Believers to pray in private
---Rhonda on 1/23/12

I admire Tim Tebow. In this day where they want to remove God out of everything. He is not ashamed of his worshiping. I think more of us need to proclaim out loud our Love of GOD. That is whats wrong in this world right now. We all need GOD. He made us, so what are we waiting for? I LOVE JESUS!!!!
---Angela on 1/23/12

Nurseroberts, yes, showing off, as the hypocrites do. If he is not a hypocrite then he is not like them. He has shown who he is right now and you have also. Since i don't know your heart or his, I can only judge what you represent by your words, With Tebow I don't just judge his words but his actions. As a liberal you are for the rights of the world, Christians are not of the world, and he is not either, for he speaks of following Christ. He also opened a children's hospital. For a young man like him, that is very unusual. Have you opened any hospitals yourself? I suppose you only work in them to make money?
Look, you don't have to like him, no one has. You can judge him all you want, it is your right under the constitution.
---Mark_V. on 1/23/12

Everything in the bible to us is up for debate. for every scripture given on one hand, there is another verse that seemingly says the opposite.

everything in the bible to God is not up for debate. for every scripture given on one hand, there is another verse that is paradoxical.

this keeps us asking, seeking, knocking...depending on God and God alone.

the actions of Tim Tebow have provoked many reactions. One day, he may hear, "well, done! good and faithful servant". One day, he may fall.

But, the important one is not Tim Tebow. The important thing is what God can through your broken vessel.
---aka on 1/23/12

instead those who love worship and bow down to their celebrity idols insist Christ was ONLY speaking to the Pharisee's///

WOW Rhonda, not only judgemental towards Tim, but now judging anyone who finds no fault in his openness? I don't even like football, nor do I worship celebrities, nor have I made any of them my idols.

OH but it's perfectly OK to WORSHIP our FLAG openly for all men to see?? (ONE NATION UNDER GOD))) or are you too for taking GOD out of the Pledge ?? How sad!

Lol, thank you Mark V :) How are you doing tonight? Hope God's blessing you, hugs, Mary
---Mary on 1/22/12

Mary, what you said is a good example of those Jesus was talking about. I was laughing pretty good the way you explained your post. That is what I call a real hypocrite. The one Jesus told us not to be like (Matt. 6:5,6).
---Mark_V. on 1/22/12

Hi, yes my ex-husband was one whose life was anything but godly but he loved to pray over meals at restaurants to show how good he was, made me almost lose my dinner!
---Mary on 1/21/12

Amen NurseRobert

so much spin on Matt 6 a very simple simple verse

THOSE who pray in public ONLY want to be seen by men

instead those who love worship and bow down to their celebrity idols insist Christ was ONLY speaking to the Pharisee's

NOT AT ALL Christ USED the example of the Pharisee's to PROVE his point

there is NO GOOD in ANY MAN who is filled with their OWN self-righteousness and by a public display they have no good in THEM

Christ's instructions to TRUE BELIEVERS were to pray in private

unless of course you cannot SEE plain truth and one would believe Christ was giving the Pharisee's "instructions" when HE KNEW they did not HEAR HIM
---Rhonda on 1/21/12

Mark, the Bible isn't talking about a literal closet, but about "showing off" how pious you are.

Being a little cynical, I tend to look at people like him very carefully. What is he actually praying for? Is he thanking God or does he want God to smite his opponents? Thanking God for the million of bucks he gets to spend on?

Other than what we see on the field, what do we know about his personal life? Too many other athletes do exactly the same thing, but when you see them off the field I would have to question their motives too.

I don't know Tebow's heart, and neither does anyone else on this blog. We need to be careful about holding people up as examples.
---NurseRobert on 1/21/12

Nurseroberts, I'm not sure of this but I believe that when Tebow kneel's down, he is thanking God I have heard this before. I believe most of us who are Christian also thank God everyday, even at meals. Do you pray to God in a closet? I don't know one person who does.
I understand the passage in Matthew very well. They pertain to those who want to show how religious they are, but inside there is nothing good in them. The passage does not say that if you pray like that there is nothing good in you like the hypocrites, but as they do.
---Mark_V. on 1/20/12

Strictly speaking Jesus did not prohibit public prayer. In fact he prayed publicly on numerous occasions including before meals,Mark 6:41 and among a crowd prior to raising Lazarus from the grave He also prayed where his followers could see and hear him. As a result they asked him, Lord, teach us to pray, Luke 11:1).

What Jesus does reject is hypocritical prayer pretending to be devoted to God so that they may win the approval of people.

So then, at the core of Jesus teaching then is not the mechanics of prayer (how, when, where), but rather the motivation for prayer (why).

ONLY GOD knows the MOTIVE of Tim's heart!
---kathr4453 on 1/20/12

Matthew 6:5-6: "And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men....when thou prayest, enter into thy closet and when thou has shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret, and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. - Matt 6:5-6
---NurseRobert on 1/20/12

But to make things perfectly clear, God did not tell anyone to be a fruit inspector indicating if you thought one was saved or not.

Each has their own check list of what they believe FRUIT IS. All Mormons will indicate only Mormons produce good fruit.

All JW's will indicate all JW's only have good fruit.

All calvinists will burn anyone at the stake or with their mouth who disageee with their doctrine.

FRUIT is produces with those who are CRUCIFIED WITH CHRIST....PERIOD!
---kathr4453 on 1/20/12

His fruits indicate he is one of the Elect, something you don't show.
---Mark_V. on 1/19/12

Surely FRUITS also indicate stability, one who is not doubleminded, certainly one who understands and has been given eyes to SEE all that is ours in Christ, yet I fail to see teh fruit of any GROWTH in the grace or Knowledge of Jesus Christ in you,, not pandering to those who oppose sound scripture, RE Leon.

You think FRUIT is being a kiss up to anyone for whatever reason, even denying TRUTH.

Fruit comes ONLY as we suffer with Christ, enduring the assaults, and BOLDLY standing on truth no matter what some wing nut says or does.

Craig, the word Elect never came out of me, not even once. When I use the word it's to answer passages which pertain to the Elect. For your information, I do not know who the elect are. I have no power to see a heart. I can only see the fruits of a person. I believe in my heart Tebow is one of the elect. His fruits show it. But since I'm not God, I'm not positive, just like I am not positive of Kathr. But her fruits are evil, has shown nothing to indicate there is good fruit in her. Only the lies and slanderous remarks against all who oppose her yet some of you love what she stands for. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to spot evil. She's used other names to do her work, you could be her for all I know, but will answer you as if your not.

your wrong because I never said he was one of the elect, only that he loves the Lord--MarkV

Ok I gotta call you out on that one. You have said in the past that a man cannot love God unless he is first loved by God. According to you, God doesnt love everyone, only his elect, right?

So how can Tebow NOT be an elect in your mind if you have acknowledge that he loves God?
---JackB on 1/19/12

You see MarkV, here is where I believe you are not saved, not really sure though, having no fruit or stability in what you believe. One minute a hyper calvinist like christan, then the opposite, just like you show here with your last statement.

So now do you think Tim is displaying how God before the foundtion of the world already decided who wins and loses football games? NO Calvinists on the other teams??? So Tim's message is what then to you? Just curious. So when Tim wins thios or that...the message is...God forordained it? Predestined it? OR is Tim advertising FREE WILL?

Kathr, no, haven't changed, I still believe God had mercy on me a sinner and that nothing I ever did was worth saving. It was all of God. Because of His kindness and love, He had mercy on me. I still love you, I love all sinners, even when evil words and lies come out of you. I'm not afraid of evil. That's why I keep praying for your salvation. I'm pretty sure you are not saved, not positive, but no good fruit so far. Here again you speak false of me. You say,
"I guess MarkV believes Tim is God's billboard sign for the Elect only."

"You're not being persecuted christan, you're being REPREMANDED!" kathr

Reprimanded? By you? Ooooooo.... have you elevated yourself to a deity? You even say, "when you learn to rightly divide the word of God...RIGHTLY DIVIDE". Rightly divide? You sure have a problem with dividing the Word, rather you totally cut the Scriptures into pieces as you see fit.

Again you say, "I don't call anyone a dog or swine whenn someone doesn't agree with me.." And yet in the very next paragraph you spew these very words, "Only little thin skinned infant self righteous arrogant, artificual fruited fruit cakes do!"

You're nothing but a hypocrite of the highest level.

Kathr, I didn't switch sides, I was never in your side. You are wicked, always looking for trouble. You found me to pick on for a long time, then Shawn M.T. and for a long time Donna66. Now you find someone else in Christan. Always making things up that you say others believe or that others said. You are one disturb lady. There is nothing good in you, if there is I have not seen it. There is still no change in you. Maybe because you came to Christ with no faith or repentance, hoping to get it all if you did your good duty.
---Mark_V. on 1/18/12

christa, since you want to call yourself MY PEOPLE, then, God said IF YOU humble yourself and turn from YOUR wicked ways, God will then hear your prayers and heal your land.

So if you want to claim all the privledges given to Israel, then YOU MUST also accept all the responsibilities and CURSES .

Imagine God calling His ELECT Church evil and wicked.

Did God call Nineveh MY PEOPLE? No, but they did HEAR and God opened their eyes to their sin. Not once did Jonah say REPENT...but the King of Nineveh repented, along with all the people.

Yes christan, For God so LOVED the WORLD, even those who were never called MY PEOPLE!

So go join sour puss Jonah and sit in a corner and POUT because God didn't destroy them.
---kathr4453 on 1/17/12

Christan, when you learn to rightly divide the word of God...RIGHTLY DIVIDE, you will come to understand Matthew was written to JEWS about the KING who will one day restore the Kingdom to Israel. Matthew is KINGDOM LAW, and not at all of GRACE. If you actually did understand GRACE you would know that. OR let's hope YOUR flight doesn't take place on the sabbath!

MY PEOPLE has always addressed ISRAEL...PERIOD. God NEVER called Gentiles MY PEOPLE, or ever made a covenant with Gentiles or a Gentile Nation.

AND when or if you ever come into the knowledge of TRUTH, THEN you may understand Romans 9-11.I pray sooner than too later!

Have a Blessed Day!

"WHO CARES what YOUR opinion is...I sure don't!"

For someone who claims they care less about someone's opinion, you sure are showing disturbing signs of being worked up by your continuous ranting of how I hate John 3:16? Talk about "WHO CARES what YOUR opinion is..." By the way, do you even know how much you hate Christ when we are told by Matthew that He only died for the sins of His people? The keyword is "His people", and is everybody His people? I think not. Take a look at your own believe before you throw stones at what Scripture declares.

It's when preachers and their followers uses this verse to teach of God's love for everyone of mankind that's erroneous. Because, if God loves everyone he created as taught by these false teachers, then according to Paul's teaching in Romans 8:28-39 of God's love, no one will go to hell. But there are multitudes who are in Hades now. So, that's where it becomes erroneous and wicked to mock God's love.
---christan on 1/17/12

EXACTLY, christan hates John 3:16 that GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD.

I stand by what I said...Christan HATES John 3:16!!!

John 3:16 does not teach no one will go to hell. It teached GOD LOVES the world so much He gave His only begotten Son that WHOSOEVER believes, not everyone believes.

"For I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of Judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned" (Matt. 12:36,37). There is no truer indication of a bad tree than the bad fruit of speech (v. 33,35).

and by your words you will be condemned" (Matt. 12:36,37). .

Funny how you SWITCH sides like one who blows in the wind! Anything for an argument....even when I was agreeing with you for once!

That is called a LIAR by God's standards. LIARS will not enter the Kingdom of God. Do I really care what anyone says who's not saved? You can accuse I will accuse you. Now what MarkV, you live by a double standard! Of coarse you do. You are double minded in just posting this question!

WHO CARES what YOUR opinion is...I sure don't!
---kathr4453 on 1/17/12

Kathr, you really don't hear yourself. You say,
"Bearing false witness is a serious CRIME!"
Which is exactly what you just did. You first suggested that satan loves John 3:16, which you would only know that if he had told you are you had the mind of satan. Second, you accuse Christan of opposing that verse. You never asked him.
You condemn yourself by your own words. Did you not read Scripture? "For I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of Judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned" (Matt. 12:36,37). There is no truer indication of a bad tree than the bad fruit of speech (v. 33,35).

kathr4453, What do you mean by "christan may object to John 3:16"? To say that I object is to accuse me of saying Jesus Christ is a liar when He proclaimed those words. I have no problem with Christ's proclamation of God's love for His people who's in this world.

It's when preachers and their followers uses this verse to teach of God's love for everyone of mankind that's erroneous. Because, if God loves everyone he created as taught by these false teachers, then according to Paul's teaching in Romans 8:28-39 of God's love, no one will go to hell. Seems as though you need to confront him, not me!

I don't CARE for OPINIONS...just FACTS when Judging others who profess to be saves!

Bearing false witness is a serious CRIME!
---kathr4453 on 1/17/12

MarkV, not to worry about us being divided over someone like Tim Tebow. All of God's people are bonded by His everlasting love in Jesus Christ through His Holy Spirit and as Paul declared, NOTHING "shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

What I said before is without malice to you but rather just an opinion of mine. These celebrities will say and do anything to gain praises from man rather than from God. But as Paul admonishes us in Philippians 1:18,

"What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached, and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice."
---christan on 1/17/12

Kathr, I don't know what you meant by saying satan loves (John 3:16) and that Christan doesn't. It seems to me you are trying to divide us.
Christan gave his opinion just like Rhonda did. What is wrong with giving your opinion of Tim? I was asking for who Tim was representing. I disagree that Tim is a pharisee or like those guys Christan mention. Tim is not a Word of faith teacher, or a politician. He is just a young man who said, "I give thanks to my Lord and Savior" And he performed in front of everyone as others do. He is no different other then he is not ashame to speak the name of Jesus Christ. John 3:16 is the favorite verse of so many Christains not just Tebow. How do you know John 3:16 is the favorite of satan?

Don't hide your light under a bushel.

We can all be sure. SATAN LOVES John 3:16 and wants everyone to see that verse.

Now a Calvinist like christan may object to John 3:16, and it appears so does Rhonda....hummm, but not MarkV....Praise God!

If Tim represents nothing more than bringing to light John 3:16 in this dark and evil world ( believe me, the whole WORLD..those who have access to tv, internet etc, will read the greatest verse in Scripture....THE GOSPEL.

AND it's the WORD of God that's Living and powerful and sharper than a two edge sword.

God uses our lives in many different ways.

---kathr4453 on 1/17/12

Rhonda, thank you for putting your opinion and the passage you did. I put the blog up because no one had. Also because I wanted to see how many would slam him and how many wouldn't. Many in sports were waiting for him to fail. Especially those who don't believe by faith. In sports most who are famous give the glory to themselves not the team, and never to the Lord. Tebow gave the glory to Christ and all the members of the team. He did not ask to be put up on the news, the media put him there. All he did was be the person God wanted him to be. I knew his time would be up, but feel we are going to hear from him again. Thank you for your opinion. Peace

Their are legitimate Christians, and those who are not.

Those who claim to be Christian, but in reality they are not, are the people who give Christianity a bad name.

many claiming christianity idolize those like Joel Osteen and sports celebrities who MAY or MAY NOT USE "christianity" as a way to attract more attention on themselves

many dozens of sports celebrities and regular people who live quiet HUMBLE and GIVING lives much more than Tim and rightly so because Christ WARNED True Believers to not pray in public to be SEEN by others - ONLY to pray in private Matt 9:4-6

Tim Tebow gets down on his knee to be SEEN by others praying and those who idolize Tim Tebow NOT CHRIST swoon over Tim's actions which OPENLY contradict Holy Scripture

in essence for these people Tim is more "godly" than the very words of Holy Scripture

Tim Tebow is no different from the likes of Joel Osteen, Benny Hinn, and even the reverend Al Sharpton. They all too claim they are Christians. Are they really?

Just because one declares they "believe in the Lord Jesus Christ" doesn't make them a Christian. Just like the Jews who declared that they are God's people and yet they crucified the Son of God claiming to do His work. And today they still reject Him as the Son of God but still say they are God's chosen people.

It's just not good enough as John admonishes the Christian, "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world." 1 John 4:1. It's the Christian duty.

Let me say, I heard about him on the news, and looked up what was happening. I have no passion to who wins or loses in games. I don't believe Tim had anything to do with what has transpired. he stood out because of his faith, his kneeling down and praying, his help for children, the songs he sings of the Lord, his kinds words to everyone around him even those who play against him, and most of all because he reminds me so much of my grandson who is attending the siminary in Escondido Ca. He could have chosen to take any one of his friends, or even his father, but he took me. There is nothing wrong with enjoying sports.

I think it is great that Tim Tebow is a witness to the Lord on the field. That is great. Personally, I don't see why he has so much hype, because he is not the first athlete to be a witness for the Lord on or off the field. I think part of the hype might be the pro-life commercial that he and his mother made during the Super Bowl one year.

Tebow did not ask anyone to put him on that platform. It was done by God's permission or else he would not be there. All he ask was for people to believe (and he meant in Christ) and good things can happen to them. Everything so far that he has done is good.

Very few can "bear witness" to who is their brother or sister in the Lord. You really need the gift of discerning of spirits to be able to "see" the Spirit of Truth that lives within Tim.

Know ye not ye are a temple of the Living God and He dwells inside of you? I believe Jesus is Tim's Lord and Savior.

The world is falling apart, the economy is melting down, people are killing one another and we're going to come against a football player who kneels and gives Jesus the Glory when he scores a touchdown?

Not sure who Tim Tebow is.
---John.usa on 1/11/12

What I like about Tim Tebow is he proclaims to be a CHRISTIAN!!!

I have yet to hear him say he is Catholic, Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist, etc, etc.
---Rob on 1/11/12

Trish, yes, Reggie White gave the glory to God, so has many others. But in the 66 years I have lived, no other person has ever captivate the lifes of so many around this fallen world. They know of him and what he represents. Of course many are just waiting for him to fall. Especially the athiest. But he acknowledges his failures and how he has to improve to be a better Christian. Tebowing is a new word added to the Dictionary. The stance on a knee will always be connected to the one God put on the highest platform in any sport. It's not the touchdowns, or the team he belongs to, but how God has worked through him when many in sports are drinking, shooting themselves or beating on their lovers. God is always at work.

When he runs, he hits people hard when they are trying to tackle him. But there is a rule that a quarterback can slip his feet out in front of him so he doesn't get hit hard by tacklers. It's a rule for protecting quarterbacks. But Tim smacks right into and through people.

I can see this is a message to show us that we need to not back down from Satan, but smack him away - - - if and how God does this with us - - and not go along with depression and loneliness and boredom and unforgiveness and nasty angry reacting and frustration, but trust God to burn and destroy that toxic filthing stuff from us.

"Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you." (James 4:7)

then, tebow must be the real deal.

he would not get so much negative press so quickly if it were not genuine. and some have even tried to evoke bad words from him. it is not in him as long as he keeps seeking the Lord.

good post, markv.

Donna, I posted this because I was shock no one had. Tim has inspired me so much. Here is a young man who is not ashame to mention the Lord's name in front of the world. Who gives the glory to God for the platform God put him in. Who invites children with cancer to his games paying all expenses. He mentioned that the little girl this weekend at the game had 74 operations, and that was more important then the game. His favorite verse is John 3:16, and this past week he completed 316 yards. He wants people to believe, not in him but in Christ. He never has anything wrong to say about anyone, not even the opponents. He is humble and righteous for all to see. He will lose sooner or later, but he has left a great impression on me.

Tim Tebow is not the first NFL player to thank God on the football field for a touchdown. I have seen many a player take a knee in the end zone. Why is it such a big deal that Tebow does it all of a sudden?

Back in the 90s, the Eagles had an ordained Christian minister on its defense. He held prayer meetings for the team, and spoke at the Billy Graham Crusade when it was in Philadelphia. Reggie White was known around the country for living as a Christian. His nickname was the Minister of Defense.

so how do we develop SKILLS?
ecclesiates 10:10 suggest that we 'sharpen our skills'

---mike on 1/10/12

many people CLAIM they are christian yet LIVE a life that does NOT follow Christ

Christ said MANY would come in HIS name to deceive

it may be showmanship it may be real ONLY Tim knows if his life reflects the way of Christ

if Tim is living his life the way MAJORITY of sports celebrities live their lives off of the field then he simply represents the world and ITS ways no matter how many times he gets on his knees and prays after a touchdown

if you believe Tim represents christians (or any one mortal man) then you missed most of what Apostles taught

EVERYTHING in the entire universe belongs to ... guess who ...

This includes:

Physical talents & abilities
Ability to think, learn, etc.
[anything I've missed ???]

GOD is pleased when we use our "gifts" to represent him.

And, we are REQUIRED to have love for one another. John 13:35 Just as Jesus loves us.

I think that Tim Tebow was representing GOD well. What a slick way to witness to people who don't know Jesus Christ!
---Sag on 1/10/12

John 3:16 worn underneath his eyebrows is the most googled phrase since Sunday. As bad as it sounds many people do not know it or have ever heard it. This is in America also.

He's giving GOD the Glory for all of the touchdowns he's thrown and the last one that was thrown was in OVERTIME, the FIRST throw into overtime and he throws and a touchdown was scored.

I would thank God too if that happened to me.

I think it's nice he's expressing his thankfulness on the field. Many are catching on...we need more people like this who aren't ashamed to acknowledge God in public.

i watched the SNL parody of tebow. the parody was in a way right that we have to do our part when we have to accomplish anything.

Tim Tebow has the right under the US Constitution to exercise and express his faith howsoever he wishes.

Glory to Jesus Christ!
