Meaning Of Apocrypha

There are some who insist that the Apocrypha is the Word of God. Apocrypha is defined as 'hidden things" in Greek. Yet God declared, "I have not spoken in secret, In a dark place of the earth". Does God then hide His Truth?

Depending. The understanding of scripture will come to 1 person then, another person later. I got In Church March 1972. Pastor Young taught in 1974 there's a tree of life on both sides of the river & I understood it, The Old & New Testament. Bro John understood that teaching in 1978.

Thank you for your response.
Please forgive me for not responding sooner and for questioning something when I did not rightly understand.

Joseph, Let me encourage you to be complete in having the Inspired old and New Testaments to both read and meditate and be graetly blessed thereby, and assure you that there is no need to seek outside NonInspired writings for "other words" not from God that are proven to be NonBiblical. The adversary is the deceiver, and if he can entice you to look outside of the Bible for other writings then he might be able to lead you astray from the straight and narrow off into those writings rather than being founded in the gospel.
---Eloy on 1/24/12

Thankyou Chris and Eloy. "Every word may be confirmed by the evidence of two or three witnesses." It seems that Jerome, who coined the term "apocrypha," agrees with you both. As well as the Puritans, after who's protest the books where excluded. As I stated earlier I have no personal knowledge of what is contained in those books, therefore I will graciously yield to a knowledge and understanding of this subject that is obviously greater than my own.
---joseph on 1/24/12

Jospeh, Some early english Bibles placed these NonScriptures in a separate section between the testaments called "apocrypha books", which upon research were found to be psuedepigraphical and containing false doctrines contradicting the Holy Scriptures, and therefore were not as you wrongly presume "arbitrarily removed", for they were "never included" in the Holy Testaments. Some parishoners have testified upon leaving the faith because the apocrypha are proven false, and therefore they said, "Since these writings between the testaments are proven false, how can I trust that the testaments themselves are holy?" And therefore these spurious writings were rightly no longer bound between the Holy Testaments.
---Eloy on 1/23/12

Joseph thought you wrote a very good and well reasoned blogg.
I have started to read some of the Apocrypha.
I was interested by the very fact several Christian leaders saw books like Enoch as important and later it was excluded when canon was formed.
I can only speak personally.
I think there is enough contradiction in what I have read, within the books themselves and in relation to books in the Bible to create confusion. It doesn't mean everything is a lie, but there are discrepancies. In the end do those discrepancies add to the word or take from it if put in scripture. That I feel is the defining line and the reason why they are not included.
---chris on 1/22/12

That is exactly what I am talking about Eloy. You have read it, and come to your conclusion entirely of your own volition. No one told you what you should believe concerning it, or was successful in hiding the knowledge of the Apocrypha from you. For what ever reason, I have not come across a copy of the Apocrypha, nor have I been led to search one out and read it. Therefore I am in no position to Promote, advocate, condemn or criticize the writings. However I do wonder why some group of people thought themselves worthy of arbitrarily removing that which had for centuries been apart of the original publication of the bible.
---joseph on 1/21/12

Joseph, Yes, I have read them, and I totally reject them as faslehood and NonScripture, because their writings are proven to clearly contradict the Holy Scriptures.
---Eloy on 1/21/12

"So do you believe it should be accepted then?"
Chria9396, I believe that should be individually decided.
" Have you read it, and if so, do you believe it to be inspired, or???"
I have not read it.
---joseph on 1/20/12

chria9396, the apocrypha was never a part of scripture, in order for them to ever be removed from scripture, the 39 Hebrew old testament Scriptural books, and the 27 Greek New Testament Scriptural books never had any NonScriptural or NonInspired apocryphas. The apocryphas are NonScripture, just as Dictionaries are NonScripture and sometimes placed outside of the testaments: either placed at the beginning before the old testament, or placed between the middle of the old and New Testaments, or else placed in the back after the end of the New Testament, along with concordances or geographical maps, but these are NonScripture.

If the truth of God is hidden it is not by God but man and Satan.

The statement above in my last blogg, is general and not around the Apocrypha. Which i am still looking at. So please do not misconstrue that.

"So who gave it that name? Who decided to hide it, and why? "No widely-accepted reason for the removal of the Apocrypha in the 1880's has ever been officially issued by a mainline Protestant denomination."
So do you believe it should be accepted then? Have you read it, and if so, do you believe it to be inspired, or???

Imagination Mark?
Okay if you say so. You are right.

Anyway reference Apocrypha. The whole question is geared to what Bible people read. Ethiopian, Eritean Orthodox, include it so it is not hidden in their view. Others say it is not canon and should not be so.
So it depends on your belief.
At the end of the day each will tell the other they are wrong.
If the truth of God is hidden it is not by God but man and Satan.

Chris, you wonder too much about all sorts of things without no reason at all. The Bible is the Word of God, and what is written has a meaning and God tells us what that meaning is. He started teaching us from the very beginning of Gen. to the end of Revelation, what was to come from one point to another. Even sent prophets to tell us, and as things come to pass we can see it was all the Work of God. Why do you want to add anything not found in the Word of God? People have a lot of imaginatons but they all belong to people not God.

christan Ruben, your question is similar to that of Nicodemus when he asked Christ, "How can a man be born when he is old? See the similarity?

No, Did Jesus tell Nicodemus you must be born again with water and Spirit to enter the kingdom of Heaven, Y or N?

christan* Btw, born again of "water and spirit" is a spiritual metaphor. Water points to the cleansing of the man's soul by the God's Spirit. And all this is God's work 100%.

You are saying Jesus actually said 'born of the spirt and spirit'. After tell Nicodemus about water and Spirit, scripture tell us "... Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea, and there he tarried with them, and baptized. " v22 Mere coincidence, I think not!
---Ruben on 1/18/12

Well I am being guided to look at Enoch.
Why did God send the flood?
It was not purely because of sin. If it was he would be sending one every couple of hundred years. After all it was not long after Noah that Nimrod kicked off.
I tend to believe that it was corruption of the DNA. Therefore what was born was no longer God's creation. Therefore had no ability to accept God or in turn be accepted. So therefore was an abomination.
Now for the first time since that time we are seeing the same thing start to happen. The proof is all around you.
For the moment forget 'fallen angels' and who or what they were.
No one can wear the mark of the beast and be saved.
We are being warned.
---chris on 1/18/12

"Not sure what you mean by 'shout', anyway how does Jesus tells us to be born again "Water and Spirit""

Ruben, your question is similar to that of Nicodemus when he asked Christ, "How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?" See the similarity?

What did Christ say to him? "If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?" The same is applied to you.

Btw, born again of "water and spirit" is a spiritual metaphor. Water points to the cleansing of the man's soul by the God's Spirit. And all this is God's work 100%.

Eloy,

I like your answer, What church Exactly are you speaking of?

Since all Churches are not the same as the New Testament Church of god and I don't mean the existing named denomination that has gone astray along with the other pagan worshippers, such as the Church of England..., Catholicism..., Orthodox.. Methodist..., Baptist's... Pentecostal, Mormon, Jehovah Witnesses etc.....

Chris, as Christians, we have been instructed, "Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding, In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths." Proverbs 3:5,6

In short, unless one is born of the Spirit, he can never ever trust in God (though many claim they do without even being born of the Spirit) and will always lean on their own understanding.

It is only by God's gift of His Faith unto me that I trust that whatever is in the Holy Bible today has been given by Him. And by faith I believe what`s in the Bible is all inspired by the Holy Spirit. And if the Apocrypha is not in there, "God`s will be done on earth as in heaven."

Yes it is because he is the son of Jared.
The problem is with some Apocrypha there are some contradictions within themselves and others. This does not mean that they are all lies. it just shows why those were not allowed into many versions of the Bible. Just one should read them carefully.
One should not just say they are lies or true. They should show people the truths or places where the books are wrong.
Enoch is dynamite it is one of the most controversial and important books ever written.
Like dynamite handle it with great care. Neither accept or deny it readily, consider it carefully.

"These things cause doubt. In Enoch the date of Enoch's son's birth is different to Genesis." chris

There's your answer to the Apocrypha. The name in the Apocrypha may be Enoch but is it the same Enoch of the Holy Bible and as you said the same Enoch in Genesis?

Just as Christ admonished His people, "For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders, insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect." Matthew 24:24

Not everyone who say they belief in christ has the same Jesus Christ as mentioned in the Holy Bible. Only those born of the Spirit by the will of God will be able to differentiate and hear His voice.

The book of Enoch tells us that the illuminaries are one of the forbidden things man was given by the 'fallen angels'. So if forbidden why are they gone into quite deeply in The book of Enoch?
In Jubilee we are led to believe that Enoch went to heaven for nearly six Jubiliee. In Genesis it says he walked with God for 300 years. Noah also walked with God, which means he followed the Lord's word Even Enoch says he did not ascend until he was 365.
In the Watchers the 'fallen angels' which are named as passing on forbidden things. Are different to the ones named later.
These things cause doubt. In Enoch the date of Enoch's son's birth is different to Genesis.

Apocrypha in Greek means "hidden" (writings or "outside books" that were hidden because of their questionable content to the church). The Apocrypha are in the Latin Vulgate and in the Septuagint which are accepted by Catholicism: but the Apocrypha are not found in the Hebrew TaNaK and they are of doubtful authorship and their content is contrary to sound doctrine, and therefore the Apocrypha are entirely rejected in Judaism and Christianity. The Apocrypha, like the Septuagint, are uninspired and rightly kept out of both the New Testament and the Old Testament. God will sometimes speak in parables to his children so that his children will be wholely blessed, and also that the ungodly will be led astray into whole delusion.

Christian:

Where did God provided us with the list of books that are in the bible? Where in the Bible do we find inspired and infallible lists of books that should belong in the Bible?
---Ruben on 1/16/12

Cluny, you are exposing the state of your heart by the answers you continue to feebly put up. Quoting Deuteronomy 29:29 and Isaiah 48:6 is fool-hardy to justify your firm belief in the Apocrypha. Those two verses does not apply to the Apocrypha.

This is how you apply: when God declared to Moses that He will harden Pharaoh's heart, what is secret only to God is that He does not reveal how He does it. But we see Pharaoh's heart being hardened in unbelief of God's words through Moses. Didn't King Solomon proclaimed,

"The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will."

What's secret is you don't see how God does it but you see the result.

Apocrypha are gospels with concerns
I think it helps if people look at Genesis chapter 5.
Example

When you read Watchers in the book of Enoch. This tells you 'In the days of Jared' Not his father, not Enoch but Jared. Which would imply he was the leader. Jared ruled for around 97 years, unless I got my maths wrong. This would be when the abominations started.
It also tells you In Genesis and Enoch all the years of Enoch were 365 years. Then he transformed.
Jared lived for 435 years after that.

Adam and Eve 2 backs this up.
Yet it has Enoch living with his parents and ruling after his father. When he would be around 800 years old. Which conradicts Genesis. Thus creating doubts.
---chris on 1/16/12

christan, is this in your Bible:

Deuteronomy 29:29
The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

Isaiah 48:6
Thou hast heard, see all this, and will not ye declare it? I have shewed thee new things from this time, even hidden things, and thou didst not know them.

Just because ignorant people call these books hidden does not mean that God did not reveal them.

Glory to Jesus Christ!
---Cluny on 1/15/12

Of course the Father does not hide His Truth. Apocrypha, by definition is "that which is hidden, unknown, or spurious." It also means "to hide away". The definition itself contradicts the fact that the "Apocrypha" was both written down hundreds of years before Christ, and readily available to all in every protestant bible up until the 1880s. "Only for about the last 131 years has the Protestant Church rejected these books, and removed them from their Bibles." So who gave it that name? Who decided to hide it, and why? "No widely-accepted reason for the removal of the Apocrypha in the 1880's has ever been officially issued by a mainline Protestant denomination."
