Church With No Prayer Or Bible

How do I attend a Bible study that includes people that do not want to pray or know the truth or read from the Bible, but only want to read the latest psychology books and follow the newest trends?

michael, you are right on brother. many here don't understand that. the bible is for all time. it is never out of style or outdated. do you know any other book that can outlast war, fire, water, and every other way man has tried to destroy it. now we have governments who are trying to get rid of it. man will never be able to destroy it. we are told to hide it in our hearts and that means, learn it, retain it and use it. anti-christ doesn't want the bible around.

Many religious people act like salvation is a club, they don't need an outdated book.

Rules of admission are manmade to maintain the honor of being a club member. We dont cuss, we dont chew, and we dont invite those that do.

Salvation isn't a club, it's free. Gifts don't exhibit the merits of the receiver, but the giver.

Clubs require members to prove their merit to join. Salvation is given to those who must first admit their failure to earn it on their own.

Salvation is a gift of God for the despicable, ungodly, sinful, and wretched people. The good news is that all are able to receive it, if they can submit to it.

God justifies the ungodly (Rom 4:5), not proud, arrogant, self-righteous, religionists.

sounds very social. it sure is not church or bible study is it? when I go to any place of worship, I have my king james bible with me. this is just another way our country is going. everything is social.

danny o: Congregation with neither prayer nor Bible is not a Christian assembly. Please go out of the place.
---Adetunji on 7/25/13

A servant, very good points you gave. Yes, leave that study group and find a good teaching church that has a good bible study. Bible studies are great in small groups because there is more time to exchange discussions on the passage been covered.
Some people have a passion to learn, others dont'.

How can you grow in spirit if you are being fed nothing? Wisdom does not come from men, and we need no special books to "reveal" what the bible says to us or the truths of the world. That which God wished to reveal He has done through scripture. Man cannot reveal a mystery to which God is not privy to, or has not chosen to reveal already. Get out of there! As fast as you can, seek God, not psychology. Staying there can do you no benefit, only harm and waste the time God has given you.
---A_servant on 7/24/13

This sounds more like a club than a church. There are very many like that in U.K. They might have a sign stating they are a Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian etc. church but there is little to choose between them where spiritual matters are concerned. They have become meeting places for people who were brought up to 'go to church' but the reason for going (to worship God and praise Him )is lost on them.

I am fortunate in that, since moving house 2 years ago, I have attended a church where about 75% of us are born-again Christians. Those who are not always look a little lost and uncomfortable when God is mentioned outside church.

They don't allow Him to go home with them. They wish to leave Him there until next week.

If I went to a church like that, I would exit quickly.

Thanks Bill, yeah seems to be a case of 'too many cooks'. But, all in all our heart is in the right place.
All objective answers here.
I can write from a standpoint of knowledge and experience of what happens when Gods' Word is disallowed or forgotten.
Finding His promises is in the seeking and asking in faith and confidence.

Do you have a leader or more than one leader of this group? What do they want to do? If they are Christian support them and make sure you do pray and study the Bible with them, however and whenever this works out, with or without the others.

Do you have people who want to pray and study the Bible? Pray and study with these people (c: I think you can do outreach to this group, but you need to be with people who feed you to become more real with God and in how to relate in love with any and all people. So, make sure you are with real Jesus love people, and with this feeding you, maybe to outreach.

\\God is not a collection of documents (do you require PROOF of God from a document?....where is your FAITH?).\\

I thought you were not talking about God, but what you claim "historians say" about the "incident at Antioch." After all YOU were the one who brought this up originally.

And my faith is in God. Why should I put any in you?

Glory to Jesus Christ!
---Cluny on 2/18/12

Cluny, a "heart of flesh" does not require or even desire DOCUMENTS, neither will FAITH rely on them.

God is not a collection of documents (do you require PROOF of God from a document?....where is your FAITH?).

EVIDENCE and PROOF are not the same thing.

"EVIDENCE" is clearly perceived. Neither can books display an "invisible nature".

Romans 1:20

"his invisible nature, namely, his eternal power and deity, has been clearly perceived".

PROOF destroys faith.

\\Maybe some of our 'arguments' hinder answers to prayer. We are still so blessed. Some of the revelations we've all experienced are now being disclosed.\\

Maybe some of our 'arguments' hinder answers to prayer. We are still so blessed. Some of the revelations we've all experienced are now being disclosed.
Maybe some of our writing is not as specific as we want it to be.
I might have painted a cloudy picture of our study. We did pray.
But, it may not have been as effective as it could have been because of doubt interjected (years previously?) from some not knowing the overall meaning of Jesus sacrifice.
The truth does hurt,(physically and mentally) especially if having been neglected for long periods of time. Maybe I have to take this into account when interacting with older folks. This is where trust and faith in Christ have to have been established early in our lives.

\\Cluny, you know as well as I do that there is no need for me to give you "names".\\

In other words, you cannot answer my question, or support your own statement.

In any case, the "incident at Antioch", whatever that might mean, has nothing to do with the Jerusalem Council of Acts 15.

Glory to Jesus Christ!
---Cluny on 2/17/12

Christ died for all of us. This is supernaturally revealed. We then want to serve in some capacity.
To attack each other using scripture because of misinterpretation of what someone wrote, is something we should not be doing.
In our study last week, I was prayed for as if the person had some insight into my problems.
The insight they had was from gossip and/or their perception from judgment on appearence. It was as if they esteemed themselves as knowing some hidden fault of mine.
Please do not try to disect every word I write.
1st Cor 4:20 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk, but of power.
Power over our interpersonal carnal nature, and than power and confidence in prayer. Thank You Jesus our Light.
---danny-o on 2/17/12

Cluny, you know as well as I do that there is no need for me to give you "names". I don't know what version of scripture you use in Orthodoxy or what you are taught, but Acts 11:26 clearly states...

"in ANTIOCH the disciples were first called Christians".

This is the ONLY use of the word "Christians" in scripture. Why do you rely on worldly/mammon information?. If you believe that you have useful information to provide that the brethren could benefit from, why have you been keeping it a secret? (is it 'lack of confidence', or is it 'esoteric selfishness'?).

Everyone is completely welcome to challenge what I write, but instead of copping out to ASKING QUESTIONS, make STATEMENTS.
---more_excellent_way on 2/17/12

danny-o, thanks for explaining, but you did not explain your question. You only stated what you believe is happening around us. I believe you are right. In life many have good intentions but in their intentions they fail. Everyone who calls himself a Christian comes from a background where they have learn something about the Bible from someone. And they believed it even when it is wrong. And will not change no matter what. They fight for that lie tooth and nails. It's what is called theological bias. But when God wants to reveal something to someone, He will reveal it, He never fails to accomplish what He desires with His Word. Many might reject it, but those whom God wants to reveal it to, will receive it.

\\For FIVE YEARS, I have been EXPOSING THE LIES (untruths) that all "christians" have been taught for NINETEEN AND A HALF CENTURIES since the Council of Jerusalem (historians call it the "Incident at Antioch",\\

What historians call the Jerusalem Council the "incident at Antioch"? Can you be specific, giving the names of such historians and/or their writings?

The conversion of the gentile centurion Cornelius, at which St. Peter was present, happened at JOPPA, not Antioch.

\\But, I'm just trying to bring awareness.\\

Awareness of what, danny-o?

I don't know the name of the church that is doing this, and would not go if I did.

I think you're merely trying to bring awareness of how much more spiritual you consider yourself.

Glory to Jesus Christ!
---Cluny on 2/16/12

Danny-O,....that's a good Irish name, 'Oh Danny Boy'. Being Irish, you should be able to understand what freedom fighting is all about, it's not a "Ha-Ha" situation.

For FIVE YEARS, I have been EXPOSING THE LIES (untruths) that all "christians" have been taught for NINETEEN AND A HALF CENTURIES since the Council of Jerusalem (historians call it the "Incident at Antioch",...look it up at Wikipedia), but all of that will be useless if believers continue to have a 'devil may care' attitude towards truth/untruth and speak to each other FALSITIES. Do not be a HERO freedom fighter (Jesus is the ONLY hero,...and PRIDE is spiritually dangerous), but free the captives of the darkness of UNTRUTH.
---more_excellent_way on 2/16/12

Dear mew, My question is not a lie. It needs to be addressed.
Too many people are writing books and have no practical knowledge of the overall purpose of why Christ became our sacrifice.
Some of these books pull us in the wrong direction, and compound assessment without reason.
Some of these books and/or movies if not spiritually discerned can create an improper judgmental biased attitude in someones thought patterns.
Than, when trying to find the truth later may be very difficult for them, because they will have to dispel volumes of 'clinical' or 'median' test results, thus categorizing people into groups and shifting focus to worldly pursuits.
Maybe this part of the reason for our prescription drug epidemic today?

danny o, sounds to me like you made the whole story up just to see how people would respond. Is that the case? You said you just wanted to bring awarness. If you do attend a bible study class where there is no study why do they call it a bible class? If they read other material why do you attend in the first place?
Something was wrong with your story from the beginning. Why not ask a Scriptural question instead?
---Mark_V. on 2/16/12

Dear more excellent way, I admire your conviction, but maybe you should change your name to 'more excellent translation'. Maybe you can be vindicated here. Maybe you should join a monestary.
Maybe you should consider a career in law or speculation. I think I'm going into poetry. lol
You speak as though you have some special intuition or prophetic gift to determine the truth. We can only prophsie in part. Because, don't forget we all lie.
But, in the same instance, we all are the truth. Jesus is truth. Life is truth. How do we arrive at this?
The truth is searching for understanding in patience. I will continue to search.
Thank You Father God for Your provision for salvation through Jesus our Christ.
---danny-o on 2/16/12

Is the blog question presenting a hypothetical/false situation? (in other words IS IT A LIE?)..."I'm just trying to bring awareness".

Lies are not the way to discover truth.

2 Thessalonians 2:10

"because they refused to LOVE the truth....AND SO BE SAVED" (don't 'LIKE' the truth, LOVE IT).
---more_excellent_way on 2/16/12

Haha Cluny, you're part right. But, I'm just trying to bring awareness.
Maybe people really can't find the truth and build faith in Christ because we've been misled so long.
Is that sort of like the ancient Isrealites or Egyptians?
I was told 'don't read that' out of 1st Kings chapter 8, when Soloman was praying for forgivness.
If people do not want to know the road to repentance and forgivness, I am free of obligation there.
Did someone just call me a bigot? Did you spit on me, too? lol
That's why Jesus came the first time. To show us how wrong we are sometimes?

Read These Insightful Articles About Bible Study

There might come a time when the State or Federal government confiscates and burns all bibles and the worship buildings will be burned or blown up......what will most believers do then? Most believers will probably PANIC and fall flat on their faces.

Your analysis of them sounds very judgemental as though you are making generalizations and drawing your own bigoted/biased and prudish conclusions. Are you saying that they read the PSYCHOLOGY TODAY MAGAZINE and textbooks? Be more objective and fair in your analysis. Do they discuss Godly PRINCIPLES and how to use/understand them?.

Hebrews 5:12 "teach you again the first principles of God's word. You need milk".

1 Kings 3:9 "an understanding mind".

May be God want you to be a Leader and step forward and change it. If they are reluctant to change then leave or start an alternative Bible study group. I have run a number of bible studies. William Barkley's Daily Bible Study Series is an 18 volumes there is also a series that will take you through the entire New Testament. For the Old Testament there is also a Daily Bible Study Series by multiple authors. Both series are excellent tools all you have to do is read it to the group and that way each member does not have to have their own copy of the book. You can get them on line from Christian Book Distributors in Peabody, Massachusetts.

If you are not in a Bible teaching church you are not in the House of the Lord. Without the Word of God people are just killing time with all the teaching from secular books for it will never bring salvation,or a walk with God. It sounds a lot like secular humanism to me and in my opinion it is the kiss of death to Christianity and living for God. Find you a Bible teaching church that doesn't replace God's wisdom with man's knowledge.
---Darlene_1 on 2/15/12

Who said you had to go to it? Just don't attend.

Is anyone forcing you to go--or did you just want to complain about it here to show how your were more spiritual than they?

This is nothing but a social club with tax exemption. Look for a church in your area, regardless of denomination, that teaches the Bible and has prayer at their prayer meetings. Call first and just ask the pastor do they teach the Bible and have real prayer meetings. But watch out they are legalistic. Finding a church that meets your needs is like buying a car - you may have to shop around - just don't take too long in looking.
---wivv on 2/15/12

It might be best if you did not attend since this is not a Bible study.

But if you decide to go anyway. Then look on where the Bible shows that GOD knew about human psychology before any men disovered it. The Bible while not a book on psychology does give good sound principals that show how to live and love healthfully. For instance forgivness frees the forgiver. Also GOD's forgivness frees us from guilt.
---Samuel on 2/15/12

If those type of people are in your Bible study I would question their relationship with Christ.

Don't. Find a Bible teaching church where they have Bible studies and read God's Holy Word. My church has several Bible studies, some coed, some just for men or women.
