Noticed For Good Deeds

I wonder if most Christians are dissatisfied with good deeds unless others notice and applaud. The good Samaritan didn't trumpet his way to the inn with the wounded person. The purpose of kindness is simply to help, not get rewarded. Personally, I am going to keep my kindnesses more offstage.

Good for you Geraldine. You have obviously come to understand, and embrace what Jesus taught. "Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, that your charitable deed may be in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly." Mat 6:1-4 Love never fails.

Willie C "A work in progress" is exactly what I am! For many years my central aim has been to do things in a way that others will approve of and pat me on the back. That pat superceded even God's approval. I don't want to be a star on life's stage anymore, but a "stagehand" whose name is not listed. But I want to hear the music!

Whether most Christians mainly want credit or not, this is a good thing to be concerned about. We need to do things because of love, appreciating God for making the way for good things we do.

Geraldine . . . You say you are going to keep your kind deeds "more" off the stage. Does "more", here, mean you have found you were doing things for attention, but now you mean to be "more" about doing things because of true kindness? "More" could mean you mean this, but are still a "work in progress" about how well we do it "truly humbly" (c:

Cluny, I love you, and I don't say that because I want to brag I'm holier then others. I say it because it it true. Maybe if you had hurt one of my children or a child, I might not say such things, but God commands us to love our neighbor. Maybe you are not my next door neighbor but I still love you. That should be the natural thing all believers should feel.

\\and told us here you were doing such.\\

Make that

WITHOUT TELLING US here you were doing such....

\\Cluny, God loves you and so do I,\\

You don't know me, so how can you possibly love me?

You don't even know my real name.

\\ but you missed a point here.\\

I got the point immediately. You're letting us know you're more spiritual than other people because you've announced that you were not going to make a parade of your charitable acts--and you wanted to make sure we all knew it.

Had you REALLY intended to keep your good deeds secret, you would simply have done so, and told us here you were doing such.

Glory to Jesus Christ!

Geraldine, the purpose of kindness is simply to help. For all things good come from above including the good deeds people do. Many great people have done great kindness to others and only God knows who they are. That is all that really matters. What is greater is when that kindness is done for the glory of God. Many will explain what they did sometimes, when asked by others who also want to do something and ask others what they are doing to help others. Otherwise they would not say what they are doing. Some like to brag how great they are. We should suffer for others. That is the love of God in us. It should be a natural thing for us now as Children of God.

Matthew 6:1 Be careful not to do your acts of righteousness before men,to be seen by them. If you do you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. People are trying to be nice when they praise a good deed but what they are really doing is stealing God's reward to you for that good deed from you. That is a big loss to only have man praise you. It is not a good tradeoff, mans praise for God's blessing. Of course most people don't even know about that.

Geraldine, A-men.

The Father didn't send His son or His Spirit to get on our case about human nature, but to inform us who the savior/"purifier" is and also as a 'caution warning' about the pitfalls of "human nature" (the flaming darts, vanity, Ecclesiastes 2:17).

Dr. Freud explained the need for basic pride to establish personal identity (the "ID"), but VAIN pride is a tremendous danger to genuine humility. Don't allow yourself to gain a reputation (people will also use you as a DOORMAT).

No matter what has been taught and said to the people 2,000 years ago, God doesn't require ANYTHING other than NOT BEING A "HYPOCRITE".

"woe to you...HYPOCRITES" (Matthew 23:13).

Cluny, God loves you and so do I, but you missed a point here. Out of all the thousands of Geraldines in the world, nobody would know which one to applaud about this. I do promise, however, that I won't brag about a good deed here, so you can relax.

Good for you, Geraldine. Applause, applause.

And make sure you tell everybody you meet that you are going to keep your good deeds quiet, like you are telling us here.

Glory to Jesus Christ!
