Teach Kids Spiritual Gifts

The International House of Prayer (IHOP-Kansas) begins its first "Signs and Wonder" camp this year where it will train 6-12 year olds to perform "signs and wonders" - "to heal the sick, reach the lost, prophesy, and pray for other children,..."

Seg I don't believe those people are doing anything but in their unSpiritually Educated way trying to get children to perform something that is from God not man. I don't know if there is even one of them who speaks in tongues as the Bible teaches,I'm not there. The Bible has strict guidelines for the obedient use of the Gifts of the Spirit in Church. Until God Himself gets ready to fill those children with the true HG what they do will only be a foolish copy. Being an instrument in God's hands to minister through surrender to his will and move accordingly, only,to His Word is very serious and should be taken with determnation to obey God and please Him.

I see nothing wrong with this AS LONG as they are TEACHING the word of God FIRST.
Because, They cannot do these things without believing God is real and that Christ is his son. That Christ died and rose again.

There is nothing wrong with teaching children they can perform these with CHRIST IN THEM.
Teach them "Greater is he that is in me, then he that is in the world!"

So then I take it,you believe these people are speaking in tongues. As per the bible!
1Co_14:2For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him, howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

Because I personally believe they are babbling.
It does not have an on/off switch.
1Co_14:4He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself,

They either edified themselves, nor their church.
I think they walk out as they walked in!

This I believe!
Act_2:4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

He was so right, when he said:1Co_14:11!

Here call me,Thomas!

The Bible says he who speaks in an unknown tongue speaks to God 1 Corinthians 14:2 that needs no one to interpret. There are two different uses for tongues the one to speak to God,just between God and that person. That isn't the Gift of Tongues spoken of in 1 Corinthians 14:27 If anyone speaks in a tongue,two-or at the most three- should speak and someone must interpret. That is the Body Ministry tongues given by God through an obedient vessel. That person who speaks with the Gift of Tongues is instructed in 1 Corinthians 14:13 to pray they he may interpret what he says. A person with the Gift of Tongues must be prepared to complete the ministry God has given them in all ways needed to edify the Body/Church.

Cluny, you really said something that to this day still eludes me, or them, I dont know which!

Act 2:1 the day of Pentecost.
Act 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire.

Ok maybe everyone didnt see it, but!
Act 2:6 because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

It would mean everyone who spoke in tongues was clearly understood!
Not, speaking babble! But, when these speak and are not clearly understood!
Right away they say they are speaking to God.

The bible says:
1Co_14:28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church, and let him speak to himself, and to God.

Is it just me, or are they missing this?

Cant teach an old dog?

For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established,

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.
Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.

Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.

How foolish!! Train to perform? Signs and Wonders, all the gifts of the Spirit cannot be taught except by God/Holy Ghost after a person has the Gift of the Baptism of the holy Ghost. With out the empowerment of the Holy Ghost there are no true signs and wonders or Gifts of the Holy Spirit.

I agree with all who said you can't teach kids Spiritual gifts. They are gifts of the Holy Spirit.

You can teach them the Word of God, how to love their neighbor, and how to share their faith with their unsaved friends, which is far more important. The First Great Commandment is to love God. The Second Great Commandment is to love your neighbor. There is no commandment to perform signs and wonders, or heal, or prophesy.

I didn't read other's responses because I just wanted to say it's better than them learning and singing Lady Gaga songs. My 8 year old niece knows the entire Lady Gaga song that was a hit...forget which one. I don't follow her.

Anyhoot, I asked my niece "and do you know the Our Father?" She said, "What's that?"

I grieved. Very sad story but very true. So I say more power to the camps teaching these Gifts of the Holy Spirit now while kids are young.

P.S. you can't teach someone to prophesy, it's a GIFT of the Holy Spirit.

I think you can teach a child to witness to the lost and to pray for other children.

It would seem that if kids go to a camp and are taught something, then it is not a gift received but rather knack learned.
---Catholicus on 5/8/12

do you want to discover what YOUR spiritual gift is? get this book...

do you want to develop YOUR spiritual gift? come to this seminar...

fine print - $$$

Catholicus said exactly what I wanted to say.

I've been to Pentecostal churches where people were taught how to speak in tongues. If it can be taught, it's not a gift but a technique.

Assuming that the gifts of the Holy Spirit can be TAUGHT to young children, does it follow they have the emotional and spiritual maturity to exercise them? It's not for nothing that the second order of ministry is called ELDER/PRESBYTEROS.

Christ is risen!

The first time I heard of IHOP, I when in, and I listened to what they had to say! After all, how can you decide on what things you want, without listening or read it, first?
Yes, I'll have the blueberries! Thank you. Sorry, I just had too!
But in truth! Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
