Sis. Rita, I completely agree with your last statement. We all have some gifts, the one's God feels we deserve. He would never give us a gift that would cause us to sin. As with pride. There is many gifts but they are distributed for the work of the gospel. Peace I leave you.
---Mark_V. on 11/25/12|
Absolutely correct Mark, every one of them. They are taught that they 'should' be able to speak in tongues as proof that they are truly saved. Sadly, I know of some who have admitted 'faking it' to be accepted.
I neither agree nor disagree with you that tongues is no longer with us but it upsets me that it has been made to be so important to many that it causes divisions, disappointment and a feeling of God having passed them by because he hasn't given them the gift.
We should be joyful about the gifts which have been given and not fret about those we don't possess.
---Rita_H on 11/24/12|
Sis. Rita, I'm sure those disappointed about not receiving the gift of tongues were Pentacostals, am I right?
Legend answered the question of tongues this way. Tongues in scripture is languages.
"And when this sound occured, the multitudes came together, and were confused because everyone heard them speak in his own language. Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, "Look, are not all these who speak Calileans? And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we are born?"
If your friends are disappointed not receiving the gift of tongues, don't worry. The gift is not with us anymore. If you want to learn a language now you have to study it. I myself know spanish.
---Mark_V. on 11/24/12|
Judy, J_Marc gives you an excellent answer below. I know several wonderful, born-again Christians who are still disappointed many years after being saved simply because they STILL do not speak in tongues. These people all have gifts of the spirit but, for some reason, they feel that they are missing out because 'tongues' is not one of the gifts that they have received. The problem is that certain churches are teaching that Christians who do not have that gift are lacking in something.I regular see a lady who insists that the first proof that a person is saved is that they speak in tongues. The bible does not say that and we are warned not to add to or take away from God's Word.1 Corinthians 13 tells us that without 'love' we are nothing.

Bro. J. Marc, you gave a very interesting passage (1 Cor. 12:4-11). I'll write something and ask you a question,
First, only believers believe the Word of God. Right? Second, the first passage speaks of diversities of gifts but the same Spirit. Different ministries the same Lord, diversities of activities, but the same God who does what? "who works all in all." And we know about God that He works in all man not just believers. Then we are told the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: then he goes on to say what the gifts are from the Spirit, (v.9) to another faith by the same Spirit. Question"
"If this passages are speaking to believers only, why is not faith given to all?"
---Mark_V. on 11/23/12|
Desire first to speak in tongues. God provided the divine language for all believers to have.
God gives spiritual gifts according to his will. They are not something for you to choose to have.
Whatever you desire, find out what God has said about it in his word. Write the scriptures in a collection then read and speak them outloud to yourself. Morning, noon and evening.
While confessing, also do according to Mark 11:24, in prayer say, Heavenly Father I believe I receive what this scripture says. Then repeat what the particular verse says unto God.
Perhaps it will help you to find a video of teaching about, or believers singing or speaking aloud in tongues to listen to. Faith comes by hearing and hearing.
---jan4378 on 11/22/12|
1st Corinthians 12:4-11 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. ---and operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom, to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit, To another faith by the same Spirit, to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit, To another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another divers kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as HE WILL.
---J_Marc on 11/15/12|
This just came to me, Thank You Jesus! You might try the church. Have them to pass out tests, spiritual gifts tests. Might learn something.
---pat on 11/14/12|
I was not walking all the time in the spirit, when I began to receive some. So, why not ask God, "what gives"? God passes Spiritual gifts out to true believers at His whim, and not ours. It really is His call. I'll say one more thing: Every believer has at least one, and that would be the gift of salvation. My Grandmother did not have any, but, she was saved. I still maintain, if this bothers you, have a little TALK with Jesus.
---pat on 11/13/12|
Judy: Prayerfully increase in obedience to God. I believe HE has allocated some of HIS gifts to you already. Maybe some are already manifesting but you do not recognize it. Also try your best not to keep God from anything you are doing or need to do because HE wills to fellowship with you on all that concerns you.

"Do not confuse the powerful giftings of the age to come, the same ones the Lord's disciples manifested as proof of their faith in His right to rule and reign, with our position as the Body of Christ. Those gifts do not pertain to this age. They will manifest with the Jew at His return to earth to set up His Kingdom in Israel. It is error to suggest they are for today's ecclesia.
---Phil on 7/7/12 " Much of today's "church" seems to think otherwise. Can you/anyone, elaborate?
---chria on 7/9/12|
There abides faith, expectation, and love. These are the transcendent and more excellent gifts 1Cor 12:31. Do not confuse the powerful giftings of the age to come, the same ones the Lord's disciples manifested as proof of their faith in His right to rule and reign, with our position as the Body of Christ. Those gifts do not pertain to this age. They will manifest with the Jew at His return to earth to set up His Kingdom in Israel. It is error to suggest they are for today's ecclesia.
---Phil on 7/7/12|
First, simply submit to our Father, for Him to do with you whatsoever He pleases. He knows if you care.
And a real gift of God's love can be so humble that you don't know you have it, but it is there for you . . . to help you really get with God in His love (Romans 5:5) and relating with Him and loving any and all people the way Jesus desires < this is what real gifts are for. How are you doing with this???
Peter had the apostolic gift, but he betrayed his gift by playing the hypocrite against Christians > Galatians 2:11-13. So, having a gift is not a measure of how you are with God!
---willie_c: on 7/6/12|
Maybe you are asking the wrong question. Instead of asking "what am I doing wrong" ask "what am I believing wrong". He has already blessed you with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ and has given you all things that pertain unto life and godliness. What could possibly be missing in "every" and "all"?
---linda on 7/6/12|
Judy, God gives to some what He doesn't give to others. What you desire and what He wants from you are two different things. Man are constantly asking for things, instead of asking God what they can do for God. We are here for His glory, He is not here for our glory.
"That no flesh should glory in His presence. But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdon from God-and righteousness and sanctification and redemption-that, as it is written-He who glories, let him glory in the Lord" (1 Cor. 1:29-31).
Stop asking what you want, and start asking what He wants.
---Mark_V. on 7/6/12|
//Been desiring supernatural spiritual gifts from God but seems I am still not full of the Spirit. What am I doing wrong?
Seen this before in person. Suggest that you focus more on the giver than on the gift. And ask only that you receive from Him those gifts that would glorify Him and build up His church.

Leon, Eloy thinks that "sinous" comes from the word "sin" and is the opposite of "righteous."
Where he got the idea he could translate Biblical Greek and Hebrew when he cannot even handle standard English properly has been demonstrated here many times.
Glory to Jesus Christ!

Judy: Study & meditate upon the word of God daily. Try to live by the word of God you now know & God will, in His chosen time, equip you for His service as He sees fit. When He does so, you'll know just what your gift(s) are. Until then desire a closer relationship to the Lord. Again, meditate upon God's word & rise above the noise of people who are spiritually rifted on this blog.

eloy, the moderator made a request of you per the rules and did not say what you did was a sin. however, that rule is in place for a good reason (to protect us from malicious, hidden viruses).
there are other instructions that they are not strict on. i think it is a reasonable request.

Eloy when you use someone else's dime to make your self important that is sin. You agreed when you signed up to abide by the rules. You are not doing that. So you lied and that is sin. Now, you state in so many words that you are going to do what you want and no one can control you.
You have attacked everyone on CN and now you are going to tell the CN Staff what is right and wrong.
Go on Mr. Smarty Pants and post your site again. I'd like to see what happens.

What in the world is wrong with you?. Your refusal to respect authority is not only ungodly, it's childish. Your refusal to respect the property of another person is tantamount to not respecting the person that owns the property......God will ensure that you receive justice (poetic justice).
You've benefitted from this forum for years. Now you've become a 'TURNCOAT' (betrayal,....The Lord will not accept "betrayal"...FOR ANY REASON).
The Lord has no regard for the rebellious.

judy, the fruit of the spirit in Gal 5 will serve you well.
if your spirit is not well "fed", you cannot utilize the gifts of the spirit for God's glory..

But you DO have two supernatural gifts from God.
You have LOVE and you have FAITH.
And just what do you mean by "full of the Spirit"? Being up on Mount Feelgood all the time? Not even Jesus did that.

Trish, I agree with you. We don't ask for the gifts and suddenly God will say, "Ok, here they are because you asked" When a person is born of the Spirit he is indwell by the Spirit of Christ. We are given all necessary gifts we will need in this life by God, (1 Cor. 1:7-9). As believers, Christ is always working in our lives. He never leaves us. We are never lacking in anything as individuals. Thats why when we do something good for others, God gets the glory. Asking for spiritual gifts is only our desire to do more. It doesn't mean we will get what we want that we won't need.
"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them" (Eph. 2:10).
---Mark_V. on 7/4/12|
Eloy why do you continue to post "your" web site? ChristiaNet only asks for a few things from any of us that post here. One of those things is to not post web sites. You do it anyway. That is sin. You say you don't sin.
You can't even show respect to CN and its staff for all they do for everyone to post here.
You are a sad example of what a Christian should be. Your speech not only condemns you but so does your actions!
---Elder on 7/4/12|
Who told you every believer is given all of the gifts? Who told you if you don't have all the gifts, you are not full of the Spirit? Those are lies straight from Hell. Open you Bible and read 1 Corinthians 12, 13, and 14 praying for God to teach you HIS Truth.
I know my gifts are Mercy and Helps. I get the most joy when I am helping the poor and the homeless in our Christian Cares Ministry at my church. I don't want the other gifts.
To be full of the Spirit you read God's Word, you pray and meditate on that Word, you attend Bible studies. You look for opportunities to show Love in and out of your church. That is how I get filled with the Spirit of God.
---Trish on 7/3/12|
Seek the giver and not the gift. Read about the Gifts in Chapter twelve but remember this, 1 Corinthians 12:11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and He gives them to each one, just as He determines. Love God,worship, and praise Him and if you draw near to God,always serving and loving God as He leads then He will decide how He wants to use you. The Bible says be content in whatever state you are in. God may not want you in the Spiritual Gifts of prophecy or anything like that but He may want you as a Preacher,Teacher,or some other ministry. Be happy in any place God puts you,go through the doors He opens for you and praise Him for whatever they may be. God makes and molds each of us to fit the plan he chooses for us.
---Darlene_1 on 7/3/12|
First you must become a born-again Christian. That is you must be born from God. You can visit my public website for details at eloy1 dot weebly dot com. Then next in prayer you must ask Jesus for the gifts. For He is the giver of his heavenly gifts. Now we ask the Father, but it is up to him as to which gifts he distributes and as to how much he gives and as to when he gives them to us. I remember when I asked for the gift of heavenly tongues and interpretations of heavenly tongues, it was over a year later that he actually gave me these gifts. I believe that we must be prepared in order to receive certain things from God, and he will not give certain gifts to us if we are not wholly ready for them. Please Read- Luke 11:9-13.
---Eloy on 7/3/12|
Judy, God gives spiritual gifts to those He chooses to use them for His benefit. I guess you never made His short list.

What do you mean "supernatural"?.
Devotion to God is about having a close relationship, it's not like being a POWER RANGER and having supernatural abilities.
