Wrong Way To Pray

I have been praying for a relationship problem and asked that God's will be done. All I want is for him to show me an answer or guide me in His right direction. Maybe I am praying wrong?

Praying- talking: I talk to Jesus who is the living God for there is none other, as I would a close friend. I must be doing something right, because He answers my prayers. Pour your grievances out to Him in the right Spirit, of course. God is very bright, smart, and all-knowing, infact, He is A-L-L. Praying should be like breathing, a good habit.

Jan, there are example on how to pray, and ask whatever you want. It does not mean you will get what you ask for. You will get what God wills for your life, because God is interested in everyone involve in your life not just you. When a person is born of God, he or she, has access to God. Those who are lost have no access. It is the one thing we can charish that we never had before. As I heard before say, "We are there, but not there yet" we have a way to God through Christ Jesus. One day, at the Second Coming, we will be there for sure. An answer will be given to you by God, but you will have to believe it when it comes. If God answers your prayer things will change, and you will see the change that He has made.

Hope this helps! Psalms 18:6 In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.Psalms 25:9-10 The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.

I would never ask God for money or riches but God has given me all I need or want. Sometimes we call on God when things go wrong in our lives.

There is no wrong or right way to pray to the "living God". Christians, don't want to be told by the heathens how we should pray! God can be slow in getting around to answering prayers. He may not answer you in ways that you are expecting, either. If you don't have this relationship, yet, maybe that's your answer. Note: God works in two ways. Slow or suddenly.... One way God has in answering prayers is through circumstances. And you have a nice day.+

That's a good question. God may remain silent. He is big on waiting. I believe you are praying right, if in faith. Wait on God. He loves that. And He loves to keep us guessing. Get to know Him, Well.

Family, yes, believe me there are folks, who sad to say pray erroneously! When I was married and went to a church, I loved so much, when I ask over the phone, our prayer leader,co-pastor said. "Lord, please. Get my wife out of the way and send this sister husband away,so She can be with me," I was so angry,I told alot, how errante to play with God and it really upset me! I left that church.
I believe if we pray out of the will of God, he just does not answer ...
This was a hurting experience so, really personal things best pray for yourself, not everyone is to trust.

Stand bragging, In a building made by hands where God does not dwell... shouting out endless empty prayers to impress the congregation, can't be bothered to call the believing (ELDERS) aside without the attention of others.

The results: People get up return to the hospital sick at worst die, forget about speaking to God in their closet alone and brag how successful they are impressing the masses!

Holla!

There is a wrong way to pray and a right way to pray and this is clearly shown in scripture with the pharisee and the publican in Luke 18:9-14, there is also a model for prayer Matthew 6 :9-13. Remember that the disciples had been trained in the Jewish tradition so knew how to pray but they still asked Lord teach us to pray Luke 11:1-13 because they realised that the way they were praying had a different result to the way Jesus and John the baptist prayed. Praying God's will is praying the word and to pray the word it has to be in us.

There is no wrong to pray. However, you have to have faith in the Lord without faith, you will feel lost.
---joann on 8/5/12

"Maybe I am praying wrong?"
Jan, unless you are simply seeking to squander whatever you are desiring from that relationship on your own desires for pleasure, without considering the needs or desires of the one with whom you are having said relationship, [see Jam 4:3] there is no wrong way to pray, simply ask in faith without wavering.

A problem can be because at least one person is not changing in one's character to be more Christian in relating. For example, a guy or lady could be bossy and controlling . . . even though the Bible clearly says, "nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock." (1 Peter 5:3) So, if someone keeps on being bossy and controlling and arguing for what the person wants . . . this can be because the person's character is not changing to how God's love has us relating. So, you can see it can be a very good idea to get away from such a person. But we can grow together and help each other do better (c:

Generally, when God is not answering, I find three possibilities:

1) I should know the answer because it is covered in scripture or a spiritual problem

2) I am asking out of selfishness for my will to be done (heart problem).

3) God is saying wait, because now is not the time for action.

So any of those thoughts fit the situation?

When I pray I thank God for everything He has done for me. He gave us a sample prayer in the Lords prayer.
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. I am thankful for salvation and direction. I pray my family would be saved. Please keep the little children safe. I pray your will be done. In Jesus precious name, amen.
I dont ask God for material things because I don't have a need since He gives me everything I need. Of course I think if I did ask him for things He would give it to me if it was His will.
---Shira4368 on 8/2/12

Dear Jan: Praying in accordance to God's recorded word (the Bible) is praying in accordance to His will. (2 Tim 2:15) God's answers to prayer comes to us from His words as we, first, receive them & then He applies those words (where they're most needed) to our lives.

You're approaching your issue and praying about it in the best way possible.

But remember, God may show you how to resolve things in a way you never even thought would happen.

Glory to Jesus Christ!
---Cluny on 8/2/12

To the very good comments already given to you, I would just add your emphasis in prayer should be that God would show you what YOU should do, not just change another person or circumstance.

God is happy for our prayers however we pray.

Prayer is man's link to God. It is not as difficult or as mysterious as most christian think it is. Prayer is simply talking to the heavenly Father as though you were talking to a very intimate friend. Do not pray the same words over and over again like the heathens and weak christians do.

Do an online KJV bible search for the word "pray" and find many examples of prayers - happy, sad, angry and happy.

Remember: there are two things to think about: one, what to pray for, being specific in your prayer requests and, two, how to pray, as though you were talking to a very close and intimate friend.

If you are praying for His will, and seeking His wisdom, then I believe you are praying appropriately. If you believe He has given you direction in a situation, it's important to obey Him.
