i would rather buy lottery than use the name of god to get rich just like megachurch pastors do...

malachi 3:10...
sow your $1000 seed & 100 fold will return...

and when it does not work, they will say blessings are not ABOUT MONEY''

"....when YOU glorify Christ instead of the book, THEN you will be a TRUE member of HIS church.

interesting however without the holy scripture you have no Lord to glorify!!

Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

1 Peter 1:25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

Those who discredit Gods Word have only one desire that is to destroy holy scripture that the Lord stated cannot be broken. These people worship men who follow Satan and preach doctrines of devils.

\\JamesL, you can stop being childish now\\
---less_excellent_way on 8/19/12

Please don't strip me of my childish behavior, it's the only thing keeping me sane.

On a more "adult" note, you weren't simply referencing scripture. You cited and quoted it in order to bolster you claims, and add authority to that drivel you promulgated.

A little bit of self respect might take you to a place of honesty about why you were ponting to scripture for authority while railing against the authority you summoned.

You say Trust God, Not Text. Then why point us to the TEXT that says we should walk in light?

I resorted to my childish antics because even a child would see that you are an idiot
---James_L on 8/19/12

JamesL, you can stop being childish now, but first you'll have to fathom the concept of self-respect. When you read newspapers and magazine articles, DO NOT FEAR THEM, they have no authority, God will not let text hurt us. You may even quote the article to friends, but do not let the article give you nightmares (articles have NO AUTHORITY over you, trust GOD, not TEXT). Scripture was written TWO THOUSAND YEARS AGO and was spoken to the people who were alive at the time. We are to know what applies to our devotion and what applied to THEM.

"and their fear of me is a commandment of men learned by rote" (FEAR OF GOD and scripture was taught to us as a habit/routine belief).

....you may resent my sarcasm, but I have used it as a last resort, because, according to human nature, it is the only way to finally get the point across that we should neither love nor fear the bible (it has NO AUTHORITY, only He who hung on the cross has spiritual authority).

Matthew 28:18 "And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me".

John 12:48
He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

\\God had Pilate say "What is truth?"\\
---more_excellent_way on 8/18/12

Ummm, you probably shouldn't believe that, because you'll only find it in the bible, which has no authority, remember?

\\"for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified"\\

Same for that. I wouldn't believe it if I were you, because it has no authority

\\walk as a child of light, Ephes. 5:8\\

Says who? Oh, that's right. It's in that book. You know, the one that we shouldn't look to for authority.

good grief
---James_L on 8/18/12

The world does not want real truth (God had Pilate say "What is truth?"). To everyone who will not accept that the bible has no authority, you do not LOVE the truth, you only will claim to LIKE it.

"because they refused to LOVE the truth AND SO BE SAVED"....(do you need a verse number?).

Don't kid yourself, if the spirit of light/truth is not truly loved in your heart/mind, then you do not walk as a child of light (you have ONLY "the cross")....

"for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified".

....when YOU glorify Christ instead of the book, THEN you will be a TRUE member of HIS church.

God is LIGHT (walk as a child of light, Ephes. 5:8).

Hi, Trish (c: There were times when people cast lots in order to make sure they did God's will . . . like when the Apostles cast lots in order for God to show them whom He has chosen to replace Judas (Acts 1:23-26).

But if someone is trying to get rich by means of gambling, this "may" not be in order to make sure the person is doing God's will and His exact choice, like the Apostles were doing.

"But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare," we have in 1 Timothy 6:9-10. It does not say those who are rich, but "those who desire". We can be already going the wrong way, just by desiring to be rich . . . even before we start any gambling!

\\The Lord Jesus is the word John 1:1\\

What does this mean, Follower of Christ?

Some people here seem to think it's a metaphor for Jesus being the perfect embodiment of everything in the Bible. What do YOU think it means?

Glory to Jesus Christ!
---Cluny on 8/18/12

Seems I remember some verse about man making his living by the sweat of his brow (work) not by games of chance.

I know plenty of Christians whom gamble with their money, often to the point where it is obviously an addiction. The addiction part I am pretty sure would be called sin. Up to the point a real problem since God does not give to us, to give to games of chance. Our resources are supposed to invested in reaching others for Him.....

less_excellent_way,
do you have any idea how utterly stupid you sound?

\\we should neither love nor fear the bible (it has NO AUTHORITY...)\\
---lees_excellent_way

and just how did you attempt to prove that the book has no authority ????

\\Matthew 28:18\\
---less_excellent_way

You went to THE BOOK. If the book has no authority, then stop quoting it.

good grief. less excellent way indeed

Psalm 68:11
The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it.

Ecclesiastes 12:10
The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.

The Lord Jesus is the word John 1:1. Teaching people scriptures have no authority is to turn them away from the Lord Jesus. Isaiah 28:13 warned those who turn away from the written word will fall backward and be snared. holy scripture has all spiritual authority over man because these are the very words the The Lord Christ Jesus spoke and inspired the Apostles to record. yes lottery is gambling and we are warned to stay away from it

\\a better question: is Lotto fruitful?
---aka on 8/17/12\\

Certainly is for those who win.

Glory to Jesus Christ!
---Cluny on 8/18/12

The lottery is NOT "biblical", neither are activities such as DRIVING A CAR, BREATHING, etc., therefore, we are all eligible for 'bible hell' (TEXT HELL), but don't be afraid of the bible, The Lord will protect you from it IF you will love HIM instead of the book (even though you haven't been taught to do so).

....you may resent my sarcasm, but I have used it as a last resort, because, according to human nature, it is the only way to finally get the point across that we should neither love nor fear the bible (it has NO AUTHORITY, only He who hung on the cross has spiritual authority).

they cast lots...blah, blah, blah...

legalized gambling...blah, blah, blah...

but, i don't really care about that,

why do people keep asking "is _____ biblical?" rape, adultery, murder...et al are all in the bible. so, does that make them biblical?

a better question: is Lotto fruitful?
