Matthew 5:16 "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
Which men are those? Surely must be the unbelievers, right?

Also, "Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men."

athiest, I didn't know the Word of God taught you anything. You are an athiest. You said,
"What does the Story of Lot teach (Us)?"

You are counting yourself with us believers because it does not teach unbelievers anything. They don't believe in God, what could it possibly teach you? Nada, Zero. Why not just ask what it teaches believers?

"Faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the Word of God"
you have no spiritual hearing, and hearing by the Word of God, so you have no faith. You need to be born of God in order to hear spiritual Truth.

Genesis 18:32 And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy [it] for ten's sake.

TEN not five

francis, Amen!!! I do have one question: You mentioned 5 righteous. Please explain.
Did you mean 10 righteous? Please don't think I'm criticizing, just asking.

The Story of Lot teaches us the GOD will take care of HIS own. That HE will spare the people who want to follow HIM and do right. And, that HE shall judge and punish those who refuse HIM and who choose to do evil and walk in rebellion against HIM and HIS Ways. GOD created the Universe and HE hates SIN and HE is under no obligation to tolerate that filthy sin and dark evil from any created human being or angel. Much less let any of them dwell in Heaven who have no real love for HIM or HIS Ways.

It tells us:
1: That God is righteous
2: That God does not tolerate sin
3: That God is judge
4: That God will bring judgment on sinners
5: ABove all, considering that God would not have destroyed the city if FIVE righteous people dwelled therein, God is MERCIFULL

The story of Lot teaches us of God's justice, but also his mercy and long-suffering with us. It is a fine example of God's love for man-kind and his will to keep us safe and protected.

an atheist's task is to prove there is no God. If you are saying that God indeed has a character - good or bad, you are not a true atheist.

what does that say about your character?
---aka on 9/12/12

atheist, it shows me that God does judge > He does not just let evil continue without doing anything about it.

And He does take care of ones He considers to be righteous.

About if Lot was a reprobate > he wasn't while in Sodom, I would say - - if they were saying he was acting as their judge. They were mad enough to do "worse" to him, than raping those two angels, they said > Genesis 19:4-9.

But later, away from the action, he could have gotten lazy so he got drunk > Genesis 19:30-35 < he gave in to temptation by his own daughters, more easily . . . like we can with ones closer to us. So, we all need to always stay with God, not only during harder things.

if God could put up with a reprobate such as Lot,

2 Peter 2:8 For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds,

So was he righteous or ereprobate?
---francis on 9/11/12

if God could put up with a reprobate such as Lot, and do extraordinary things to bless him - He will do no less for us.
