Names Of Those Healed

Have you ever noticed how few of the names of those whom Jesus healed, or were otherwise involved in His miracles, are given in the Bible? Why do you suppose that is?

\\The reason few names are mentioned is the same as why Moses' burial place was not revealed - man would only worship those who were healed and build shrines to them.\\

Non sequituur, Steveng.

Your conclusion does not follow from the premise, and your analogy doesn't apply.

Glory to Jesus Christ!

Sis. Elena, I am 66 years old. Very old. Will be 67 in Dec. Have been around the block as they say, a few times. Born in southern Texas, 30 miles from the border.
You are right, when we think we have it bad, all we have to do is look around, and so many others have it worse then we do many times. Some have children born medically sick. The children at Saint Judes make me cry when I see what they are going through. Many are hanging on to life by a thread, and they are so small. Believers are struggling everywhere. Some with serious medical problems all the time, and other for losing a love one close to them. It is the cycle of life and sin. The body will die, just some to early.

Sis. Elena, I'm sorry you are feeling the way you do, and not seeing your daughter either. We sometimes don't know why our kids or family some times do not want to see us. They have their own emotions and feelings and reasons that many times are wrong, but we cannot do anything about them. That is why it is so important to trust in God alone. He never fails us. What He decides to do is always righteous and just. I feel sorry for those who don't have Christ because they have no hope. We have that hope and we should cherish it, and always depend on Him. Peace I leave you sister. We are with you in prayer, placing you in the hands of Almighty God, for He alone heals us spiritually and many times physically.

Sister Elena, you are always in my prayers together with the others. Not one day passes that I forget. Also for those with breast cancer, and the children who are lost, who have been taken by the wicked. At work I use to pray for two sisters the day before they went in for a check up. I could see how hard it was for them and know how hard it is for you and others when the test comes. I know you are afraid. May God give you Strength, healing, and a very stronger faith, and He will get you through it all. Peace I leave you sister.

Sister Shira, I am so sorry for the lost of your daughter and husband. I have never lost a daughter, so don't even come close to knowing how it feels. I have only one daughter. I could say right now, I will understand how I am going to react but what I say now and how I will feel if it ever happens are two different things. Many of us have gone through so much in life now that we are getting older. The longer we live the more we see. Peace I leave you sister, and praise God both were healed. To God be the glory.
---Mark_V. on 11/7/12

eight years ago when my precious daughter was dying from brain cancer, someone on this blog told me I didn't have enough faith or she would be healed. I have even been asked why I didn't cry at my husbands funeral. they also ask me if I was glad he died. wow, some people just don't get it. God gave me incredible grace during both of these dark times in my life. now..my daughter is healed and my husband is healed.

Shira 2: Without the help of God, those blind will remain blind. They cannot of their own self heal themselves. It is not that they want to remain blind. Just like Lazurus, he was dead. Not partially, but really dead. Just like the lost are. They cannot refuse to be made alive. They are dead and cannot think, speak, or even breath. They need Christ to bring them to life. Jesus said rise, and Lazurus responded by rising. He didn't say while dead, I refuse, I want to remain dead. Without the power of God the Holy Spirit, unbelievers remain dead. They have no free will while dead.
---Mark_V. on 11/6/12

Sister Shira, you are so right. Jesus came to heal those who were spiritually corrupt, sick. Just as when a person cannot see with his eyes, and by his own power is unable to heal himself, he needs a doctor to heal his eyes so he can see, the same holds true for those who are lost and cannot see, hear, or understand.
They too need the greatest Doctor in the World, God, Jesus Christ, to heal them spiritually and enable them to see, hear and understand spiritual Truth.
---Mark_V. on 11/6/12

pat, Jesus healed many and we Know He performed so many miracles that the world couldn't hold them. I have a hard time seperating healing from salvation. I think it was all the same. read Isaiah 53...by His stripes we are healed and that is salvation.
---shirA4368 on 11/2/12

UNBELIF. Jesus didn't saved very many people when He was here. Not all followers of Jesus were truly saved. Same today. Some has even fallen away. Some has denied Jesus as their Savior. ARE YOU CHOSEN++

\\..introduces himself...it was well known which James he was.\\
---Mark_Eaton on 11/1/12

You make a couple of very relevant points there.

Just as when Paul said that many who had seen the risen Christ were still alive, and didn't list 500 names of those who saw Him.

Good stuff, Mark
---James_L on 11/1/12

all of the gospel accounts were oral traditions for decades before they were ever penned. Over the course of decades, the names were probably remembered less and less, to the point of fading into oblivion.
---James_L on 10/31/12

I thought you were going to say that the stories were orally told and that many of the people that had been healed were perhaps still living. They were well known to the people who heard the stories, so a definitive name was not necessary.

We see this demonstrated in the Book of James. James only introduces himself as James. But yet, there are no less than four different James that he could be. But, at the time when the book was written, it was well known which James he was.
---Mark_Eaton on 11/1/12

But Mary and Martha and their brother Lazarus are named, and Mary Magdalene and the twelve apostles. They had personal relating with Jesus.

Possibly the ones who got miracles were not personally relating with Jesus on an ongoing basis. So, they were not named.

This can show that we do not have a name with God, only by getting a miracle from Him. Faith is for getting into a personal relationship with Jesus, not only for getting things we want and need. Paul speaks of "faith working through love," in Galatians 5:6.
---willie_c: on 11/1/12

"Why do you suppose that is?" Cluny

Because it is irrelevant! From your question on this blog, you rather go in the ways of honoring man than God. So typical of the "mother harlot" way.

Christ's ministry to heal the sick and raise the dead is symbolic of telling us what our spiritual condition is and that we are in need of Him. Or why else would He declare,

"They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick. But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." Matthew 9:12,13

cluny, clearly he answered the question as it was written initially.

he could not answer to the supposition that was clearly not presented initially.

all of the gospel accounts were oral traditions for decades before they were ever penned. Over the course of decades, the names were probably remembered less and less, to the point of fading into oblivion.

Much like today - if we hear a story of someone who did something great years ago, the names of those impacted are rarely remembered.

One such string of stories comes to mind. Here in the Kansas City area, there was a man who became known as Secret Santa. He went about handing out 100 dollar bills to people on the street.

His name was eventually found out, and it made news headlines. But I doubt if anyone would remember the names of those who received the money.

Hello,Cluny, just this past week and 2 days, listen, I went to the doctor and he always, give tests all the time.well, now, I have been healed of Diabetes! It 's me...ELENA! He saves and he still heals! God bless you and everyone.

Your ?
// I'm asking why so few names of His benefits have come down to us//

My answer
//It was the actual miracle, not the name that was important.//

Check out more commentaries, you might find the unimportant names you are looking for
---michael_e on 11/1/12

when the Holy Spirit penned the bible, God didn't find it necessary to add all their names then he would have been unfair to not name everyone for everything. I honestly believe God wanted the attention to fall on His Son.

Jesus,no doubt had compassion, however, He had to try to prove to Israel who he was. It was the actual miracle, not the name that was important.

John 12:37
[ Belief and Unbelief Among the Jews ] Even after Jesus had performed so many signs in their presence, they still would not believe in him.
---michael_e on 10/31/12

To show that they are not special or unique but a simple person who believed with faith. Good question.
