The Lord said if we have seen him we have seen the father. If you have a son or daughter you know they are in your likeness.
The Father in Heaven has the same physical attributes as a physical man, he has a head, eyes, nose, lips, arms, legs, and other attributes of a human being.
The difference is The Father and the Lord are spirit. They are like the wind and are not composed of flesh and blood.

What do I think? Okay, this allows me freedom then to say anything. It could be sarcasm, or hypothetical, or truth.
The word "image" means 'shadow'. Which refers to the inside, the nature of man.
The image is what was 'shut off' when Adam and Eve were rebellious against God's command not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
They only operated then by conscience which was heavily influenced by the same negative producing effects from the devil that produced the murder of Abel. And other forms of sin and death.

And when the woman (saw) that the tree was good for food, and that it (was pleasant to the eyes), and a tree to be (desired to make one wise), she (took of the fruit thereof), and (did eat), and (gave also unto her husband with her, and he did eat.)
And the LORD God said, Behold,
(the man is become as one of us),
(to know good and evil:
and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of (the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever)
23 Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.

Part 2. With Adams fall, we lost that image of God. One of the works of Christ in our lives is to bring us back to the image of God. Jesus is the image of God. He has all of Gods attributes. and we are becoming more in the image of Christ.

I believe part of the Image can only be recognized when we first know what GOD's Image is. One thing for sure is that GOD is a Divine Unification of Three Persons in ONE. GOD made mankind in that Image. It was the human family that was formed in GOD's Image: Father, Holy Spirit and Son = human father, mother and child(ren). That's what I believe is, at least, part of how mankind was made in GOD's Image. Somethin' to chew on, anyway.

The title "Elohim" in the plural form, means TO-SUBJECTORS. Gen. 1:1.Moses (Ex. 7:1), and "judges" (Ex. 22:8,9,20,28, 23:13,24,32,33, 32:1, etc.)were called elohim. It is a title of divinity. It has taken on the sense of personhood.
It is God's prerogative to subject His creation to His will, directing and apportioning according to wisdom and knowledge.
It is to this we are being conformed, subjectors over our environment, which through sin was lost and is being recovered by the Firstfruit Christ.
In our subjection to Him, and with His Spirit in us, we become vessels to fulfill His Father's goal [1C 15:28], and reconcile the universe as His body.

The image of God Is Jesus Christ. Even tho the angels are ministering spirits. When they are dispatched from God to do a task, they are in human form. Just like when there was to go help Lot & his family to get out of S & G.

This is worth meditating upon.--Phil on 11/4/12" Please do:o)
"Excellent post.--Phil on 11/4/12" Thanks, all praise due the Father.
While you meditate consider how I define and/or interpret "dominion over" and offer your view concerning it. I would also appreciate your sharing where your meditation takes you.
Oh yea:o) I define or interpret man having dominion, as being charged of the Father to domesticate, subdue and cause the animals He created to serve a useful purpose beyond that which is obvious in itself. For instance, pigs obvious purpose is as a scavenger, however if raise and properly feed to exclude that which is toxic, can be used as a low cost food for man.

1Ti 6:20 O Timotheus, the thing entrusted guard thou, avoiding the profane vain-words and opposition of the falsely-named knowledge,
2Ti 2:15 be diligent to present thyself approved to God--a workman irreproachable, rightly dividing the word of the truth,
and the profane vain talkings stand aloof from, for to more impiety they will advance.
It is to controversy, not truth, that some enter into dialogue.
Humility precedes understanding, and implicit belief in God's word that produces liberty.

Come on now: We all know that God does not have legs, arms, ears, eyes, like ours. Yet, He can see, hear, hold, walk......[Gen: 1:26-28]. It is the soul, of man, especially bear God's image. Understanding, will, and active power, is perhaps the brightest, clearest looking glass in nature, wherein to see God. In His place and authority: Let us make man in our image, and let him have dominion. In His purity and rectitude: mercy, mercy. God's image upon man consists in knowledge, righteousness, and true holiness. Our first parents were happy. Here comes satan and sin entered in, messed everything up. Hello Jesus+

What Is God's Image
Man is made in God's image. What do you think is this image?
---pat on 11/1/12
Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him, male and female created he them.
Genesis 5:3 And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image, and called his name Seth:
Why was Seth not in the Image of God?
Seth had inherted in the sin nature of Adam
So one of the things that being in the image of God means, is to be created without sin

"What do you think is this image?
The ability to adapt ones environment to oneself, and to take dominion over ones circumstances. Man was created to resemble, reflect & represent in a similar manner, the attitude and attributes of the Father. Man has been granted the ability to demonstrate the Father's ability to reason, make rational choices, and sound decisions based on mental deduction, and logic, rather than instincts alone and to set ones course in life by faith's internal directives. It is this that distinguishes the man, from the beast, and is the reason man was given dominion "over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."
---joseph on 11/3/12|
Pat, the Bible tells us,
"Let us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness"
It doesn't mean we look in the physical body like Him, Since He is Spirit. First, "Our image" is the first indication of the triunity of God (Gen 3:22: 11:7). The very name of God, Elohim (1:1) is a plural form of El.
Second: "Our image" defines man's unique relation to God. Man is a living being capable of embodying God's communicable attributes (Rom. 8:29: Col. 3:10: James 3:9). In his rational life, he was like God in that he could reason, and had intellect, will, and emotion. In the moral sense, he was like God because he was good and sinless.
We do not look like Him physically because God is Spirit.
---Mark_V. on 11/3/12|
God = Elohim
man = family
the imagery is in the relationship... born in Spirit for God is spirit.
it has little to do with the physical. God lowered himself only for a speck of time to restore the spiritual relationship.

well, God has arms, hands, feet, head, body and He has the ability to get angry or have compassion. we are made in His image.

So Phil, if Jesus is not like the Father how come Paul says Jesus contains all of the Godhead (Colossians 1). You avoided answering me on another thread so I guess, being dishonest, you will do the same here. But please, I'm quite happy for you to prove me wrong.

uibra [Gn 1:27] is translated "and He is creating". The formation of mortal beings into individuals having God's fulness indwelling is a process. It takes eons.
Jesus, the Logos of God, is His express visible Image. This is the consummation of humanity at the end of the ages Eph 3:11 1C 15:28.
We shall be like Him, conformed to His image, exactly like the second Adam. We will never become as the Father is. He alone is God, there is no other.
His only Begotten Son is the
Firstborn, and we shall be like Him at His coming in clouds for us.
---Phil on 11/2/12|
It says God made man in His image > "male and female" (Genesis 1:27) who can be totally connected and trusting and depending on each other . . . like our Father and His Son and the Holy Spirit are perfectly one in family love and communication and cooperation in personal sharing. But many humans are not lovingly trusting and depending on each other > "submitting to one another in the fear of God" (Ephesians 5:21) like we can be in Christian relating.
