Sis. Shira, your correct. The fact that Jesus commanded His disciples in (Matt. 10:5-15) to not go to the Gentiles at that moment but to go to the lost sheep of Israel, and commanded them,
"whatever city or town you enter, inquire "who in it is worthy," and stay there till you go out." (v.12) "And when yo go into the household, greet it. If the household "is worthy," let your peace come upon it. But if it is "not worthy," let your peace return to you."
Individuals have to be prepared by God to hear the gospel truth. God quicken's their hearts in order for them to hear the truth and receive faith. For faith comes from hearing, and Hearing by the Word of God.

I think God wants us to be a light on a hill. we can love our enemies (I have a hard time with that one) but we don't have to like them. we are not suppose to walk with the enemy. if we testify to them and they reject, we are dust the dirt off our shoes. even in all this we are to show christian love.

The love spoken of here is The Father's love that has been "shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which is given unto us." Rom 5:5
That love is expressed towards everyone in the exact same way, as a tendency and inclination toward that which is uplifting, beneficial, and edifying.
Pat always keep in mind that "Love does no harm to a neighbor, therefore love is the fulfillment of the law." For "Love is patient and kind. Never "jealous or boastful or proud or rude, does not demand its own way, Is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged...." 1Cr 13:4-7 That love is a choice. Father demonstrated that love in this way, "While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Rom 5:8

Eph 1:11 ...according to the purpose of the One Who is operating all in accord with the counsel of His will.

Our environment and circumstances are not random, according to the above passage.

When a believer apprehends the scope of this passage, great comfort and assurance is had.

By not returning evil for evil, God is obligated to judge the matter. Should we seek justice apart from His divine intervention, we will suffer the loss of His approval and usurp His place as the Avenger.

Ro 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but [rather] give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance [is] mine, I will repay, saith the Lord.

Love is having the very best interest of another person at heart, with the ultimate goal of salvation. Whatever salvation means to you. That would be different for Buddhists and Christians.

If you are a Christian you want your enemy to go to heaven, if you are a Buddhist you want you enemy to be one with the universe. In either case you do your best to ensure that even those who are your enemies make it

Nana, just wanted to tell you that I have not appriciated your statments, and yet I still love you in the sense of how it was explained by Christan,

"For the Christian was once in that same state (lost under the prince and power of the air, who now works in the sons of disobedience) as his enemies and only the power of God saved him (Eph. 2:1-10). Isn't it an act of love when you tell your enemy this Truth?"

That has been my act of love to you. By exposing the false teachings of works for salvation, and bringing the Truth that only by the grace of God through faith is anyone saved. If I did not love you I would never mention this to you.

"righteousness (613 commandments given by a man, Moses, to keep holy laws of God) which is of the law (of Gods 10 laws)" FOC

What concoction is this that's spewing out from your heart? The "righteousness of God" stems from the very fact that He is Holy and His laws merely tells us of how Holy He is before the sinner.

"abolished"? Nothing of God's law's were abolished, rather Christ declared, "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil." Only by faith in Christ that the laws of God cannot come after him/her anymore by virtue of Christ's "righteousness" that's imputed to the sinner.

No Pat, it doesn't mean that at all!
Will this is (as one would say) only my opinion.

If you would really take the time to really look at your lives.
I don't care, how good you think you are.
Or even how well you think you keep the word of God.
There is none good!

One of the hardest things to do is to forgive!
I remember talking to a man, who told me he is filled with the spirit.
So much, so, that he has performed miracles, with the lord help.

One day, I saw him clearing his car, so carefully and with such care!
I asked him, what you would do. If you saw someone key your car?
I'll kill him!
Peace

This for the saved?
Matthew 3:8 "Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:..."

This for the saved?
Isaiah 1:16_17 "Wash you, make you clean, put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes, cease to do evil,
Learn to do well, seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow."

Who'll be saved? Is it the doer?
Matthew 7:21 "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven."

"Bring, wash, make, put away, cease, learn, seek, relieve, judge, plead", who commands ACTION and of whom?
Who and of whom?
---Nana on 11/10/12

Nana, in your hurry to condemn my answer as always, don't realize you are speaking for works unto salvation. That a person has to work to be save, you say,

"2 Corinthians 6:1 ....God calls people to action, to purity, humbleness, holiness and perfection even. He is the judge and judgement is his."

Your forget this passages are for those who are saved already. And what they are called to do was ordained already for them to do as believers. His people are His Children and we are told, "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them" (Eph. 2:10).
God prepared us to walk in them, the reason He gets the glory not us.
---Mark_V. on 11/10/12

Hi Pat
I am not saying you did not hear from God about cutting the enemies grass but I will say it was suspect. God is not going to instruct us to go against His moral code. Scripture tells us how to deal with enemies. There was no need to ask God about that one because He already told us how to handle such matters in the Bible. You probably should have cut the persons grass and let God be glorified in you.

pat, I might smile at an enemy to show him or her that I will not be controlled by how that person treats me, and to show I am there for the person and not going to give up on him or her. Most important commandment sums up Gods 10 holy laws, and by loving you seek to forgive and live for God, not your perceived enemies

613 laws of Moses created to keep Gods 10 laws: Romans 10:5 "For Moses describeth the righteousness (613 commandments given by a man, Moses, to keep holy laws of God) which is of the law (of Gods 10 laws)... ".

No grace = 613 ordinances.

Grace = Gods 10 laws through power given by holy spirit helping and guiding followers to keep Gods 10 holy laws (Acts 5:32)

The 613 laws of Moses were abolished now making the keeping of Gods 10 laws not grievous: Ephesians 2:15, 1John 5:3

Gods 10 laws remain, because God (the lawgiver) does not change: James 4:12, Malachi 3:6

" Does it mean that we are to smile all day at them, and their sins?" pat

Smile? Does Scripture tell us that Christ and His disciples were smiling with the Pharisees and the children of the devil? Was Christ smiling while He was hanging on that cursed tree?

Loving one's enemies in the context of the Scripture is simply testifying and witnessing to your enemies about the Truth of the Gospel. And that's " I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."

For the Christian was once in that same state as his enemies and only the power of God saved him. Isn't it an act of love when you tell your enemy this Truth?

"The marvelous truth of the gospel is that Christ has met this standard on our behalf ( 2 Cor. 5:21)."
---The Macarthur Bible Commentary

What bologna! Stroll to the next verse in 2 Corinthians and what does it say?

2 Corinthians 6:1 "We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain."
God calls people to action, to purity, humbleness, holiness and perfection even. He is the judge and judgement is his.

To say man can't is to play 'judge' on mankind and on God. Even Paul said,
Hebrews 12:14 "Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:"
You'll answer for yourself, (2 Corinthians 5:10).
---Nana on 11/9/12

Moderator, please post.
Pat 2: The love Christ is speaking of is many times not attainable by Christians just as (v.48) is not attainable either,
"Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father is perfect" Christ here sets an unattainable standard. This sets up what the law itself demanded (James 2:10). Though this standard is impossible to meet, God could not lower it without compromising His own perfection. He who is perfect could not set an imperfect standard of righteousness. The marvelous truth of the gospel is that Christ has met this standard on our behalf ( 2 Cor. 5:21).

Let me do a little testimony here. I ask God about cutting this ladie's yard. She's an enemy. God said NO, She will learn. I quoted a Scripture at the author of the Bible. "What about love thy enemy"> And God said, YOU MUST OBEY ME FIRST....We do have two obediences, sure nough. The word of God and God directly....Pray about everything. And obey God. If yes, fine, if it's no, fine. Lets separate the trues from the hypocrites.
---pat on 11/9/12

Pat, no, it doesn't mean that at all. In (v.43) of Matthew 5, Jesus mentions the Old Testament law, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy" in (Lev. 19:18). Jesus was not doing away with law since He had already said in (v. 17,18) He didn't come to destroy the law or the Prophets but to fulfill. So love your neighbor was half of what the Law called for, now Jesus was extending God's love even to His enemies. The universal love of God extends to the enemies in blessings which God bestows on all indiscrimiately. Theologians call this love common grace mentioned in (v.45) "For He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust"

Smile?
A smile is not an act of love.
Doing good for those who hate you, is the greatest weapon to use against an enemy. That's why Jesus taught that lesson in (Luke 6:27-36).
The only way to discover the Truth in what Jesus taught, is to put his words into practice. Then you will know the Truth.

Start doing good things for those who hate you, and before long, your enemies will be calling you friend. And the sins they commit against you will stop. Because it's hard to sin against someone you love.
