Can we perform our worship any old way that it is convenient for us, or is God specific about how we should honor him?

Does God allow mingling of our traditions in our worship?

John 4:23 23 But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth (God is not looking for Holy Worship, He is looking for Holy Worshippers, as stated, Calvary would make possible an entirely different type of worship, which did not require ceremonies or rituals, etc.) : for the Father seeketh such to worship Him (means that by the word "seeketh" such are not easily found) .

We have to be wise as serpents and honor God as the LOVING KIND creator that wants us to live peacefully with each other (no name calling, suggestive accusations, no berating each other, no condescension, etc.).

Just because we avoid war, torture, wickedness, and corruption doesn't mean we are compatible with His SPIRIT.

I've read a lot of 'unholy attitude' in these blogs...HYPOCRISY.....NO excuses! (it's time someone said it).

Don't honor God as a leader/master, honor Him in your mind/attitudes/spirit and IN TRUTH (either that or don't fool yourself).

GODLINESS is NOT a contest/competition.

At church do you sit in a pew or chair. According to Biblical traditions the teacher sat and the crowd stood. Or how able everyone having a Bible that is fairly recent tradition. Hymns were bar tunes. Traditions are good if they are serve a purpose. Traditions are bad if the only reason you are doing something is because of tradition, then it is a ritual and not worship.

"St. Paul congratulated the Corinthians for "keeping the traditions just as I delivered them to you."" ? What traditions Did Paul deliver? Examples, 1st Corinthians 7:19 Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.Acts 16:13 And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made, and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither

The OP asked this question because he has a NEED TO KNOW and understand how to properly honor God (he WANTS to know...it is his own "NEED" to know) because he understands that there is no true sentiment/living water in being partisan.

Romans 1:21 "for although they knew God, they did not honor him as God"....(what the Romans really did wrong).

...the most common and natural romantic relationship in the world has always been HETEROSEXUAL. The sexual deviates of Sodom and Gommorah had no respect for life and EMBRACED the "PARTY SPIRIT" all of their lives.

Galatians 5:20 "party spirit"...(works/deeds of the flesh).

Satan wants everyone to worship/honor God AS A LEADER/MASTER.

St. Paul congratulated the Corinthians for "keeping the traditions just as I delivered them to you." He also said to we are "to keep the traditions we have been taught, whether by our word or epistle." And elsewhere, he says there is a tradition "according to Christ."

Glory to Jesus Christ!

as the x-mas season is approaching, I wonder how many professing 'Christians' will indeed be worshiping in spirit and in truth. God is pretty specific about how He feels towards are worthless traditions.

and yes, I'm not asking a question, but rather, provoking you to take action to eliminate all that could be a separating factor between you and our Father. when the 2 witnesses arrive they will be much harsher than I. they will smash easter-eggs, topple x-mas trees and trample thru our sunday schools. these witnesses are not here to revive those in false religions but to de-paganize those who know Christ

"Shouldn't there be a difference, even as with HIS people?" dorothy sanders

Most definitely, Dorothy. That difference is one who's "born of the Holy Spirit". As Christ declared, "It is the Spirit that quickeneth, the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life." John 6:63

ONLY when the sinner is "regenerated" by the will of God (John 1:13), can he/she "worship God in Spirit and in Truth" and that's because His Spirit resides only in His elect. No one else outside of His elect receives this blessed gift. It's not of man's choice/will but of God who's chosen before the foundations of the world.

Comandments or Traditions? Mark 7:5-9 Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands? He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

Sis. Pat, I also agree with you so much. Only believers are heard by God in prayers. We are previleged to have this ability to have communion with God in our prayers. In spirit and truth because only believers are spiritually alife to Christ. Thank you Lord for giving us that previlege, that others don't have, peace sister.

"Does God allow mingling of our traditions in our worship?"Galations 4:8-11 Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods. But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage? Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years.I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.

\\We who worship GOD must worship HIM in Spirit and in Truth\\

You forgot the rest of the verse: "for the Father seeks such to worship Him."

The full verse is obviously a Trinitarian reference.

**Man is most fully human when fulfilling the intention of God for him, worshiping, serving, and loving God.**

This is a constant theme in the writing and teaching of the Fathers.

Glory to Jesus Christ!

Now we know how GOD Almighty has told us how we must worship HIM, HE has made it so very plain. Then HE said, if we love HIM, we will obey HIM.

We who worship GOD must worship HIM in Spirit and in Truth - (John 4:24,John 14:15, I John 5:2-3, Authorized KJV Bible).

If the worship that we offer up to GOD Almighty cannot be distinguished from the worship that the world offers up to its GOD, is it worship that GOD receives? Shouldn't there be a difference, even as with HIS people? Just asking.
---dorothy_sanders on 11/13/12

God made each human being unique and gave us minds to work out many things for ourselves. We can learn about worship and prayer from God's Word and from each other but the correct way for one person will not, necessarily, be correct for another.

What we must be is genuine. God knows what our needs are before we ask. He already knows what sins we have committed so nothing in our confessions will shock him.

We should be alone, sincere and humble before Him and He will give us the words. Whether we pray out loud or silently will make no difference.
---Rita_H on 11/13/12

God surely loves our worship whether in the shower praising HIM or in church praising HIM. As far as the "mingling" goes, the world has changed tremendously since Jesus died on the cross for us. Praising HIM has also changed. God surely loves HIS PEOPLES' PRAISES!!!!

" Any old way" does not sound respectful

Mingling tradition: YES.
example in east eisa one may take their shoes off before entering a house of worship, that is not offensive to God

Romans 12:1
"Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of Gods mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to Godthis is your true and proper worship."

The rest is just stuff we do culturally.

"But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." John 4:23,24

"God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands, Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though He needed any thing, seeing He giveth to all life, and breath, and all things." Acts 17:24,25

Oh, good question! Let me first explain something to you people. God does not recognize your worship or your prayers.....If you are lost. God is not too picky, just as long as you belong to Him. Saved by His Blood. Anything goes with God, just as long you are saved, HE KNOWS YOU. He loves the prayers of His people, the worshipers. Actually, God is looking for worshipers, today. Ah my Jesus. We don't just do worship we are worshipers, in truth and in spirit. Hallelujah.
---pat on 11/12/12

BTW, mike, I forgot to mention that the way you have phrased your question sounds like you already have you mind made up about what answer you want to get.

In other words, you are really making a statement, NOT asking a question.

Glory to Jesus Christ!
---Cluny on 11/12/12

Jesus did not say worship is outward copy-catting, but "in spirit and truth." (in John 4:24) > "the Spirit is truth." (in 1 John 5:6) So, truth is not just words, but who God is and how He is > Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth, and the life" (in John 14:6). So, Jesus growing in us (Galatians 4:19) is the real way and truth of worship. He who now lives through us (Galatians 2:20) does not need to copy-cat outward ways.

But we have groups whose ways and standards can easily be imitated by predators and con artists and anger-abusive people, while they pass themselves off as pastors, even, but are accepted because the people's standards are so low and outward.

If you choose to revere God using a list of instructions (a 'how to' book), then the closest you will ever get to Him is as a SLAVE. As a "slave", He can never truly know the real "YOU" (He will say "I never knew YOU").

Many believers need to use a guidebook in order to carry out all of the procedures and protocol they want to believe is a valid substitute for a loving relationship with the creator (even though they don't use a book to love their spouse, parents, etc.) because their heart is unable to shed even one tear of "living water" about anything.

John 7:38 tells us what REAL 'BELIEF' IN JESUS actually consists of....
"'Out of his heart shall flow rivers of living water'".
---more_excellent_way on 11/12/12

Believers have the option of being a "son of God" (only if you accept Him as "Abba FATHER"), but many want to continue being a "slave" and know God as "MASTER" because man has taught them to do so (and it's much easier to be TOLD what to do than to truly have a "heart of flesh").

Jeremiah 17:13
"they have forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living water"

...(with WHITE ROBES they "neither thirst", verse 16).

So, do you want to "worship" as a slave or a SON?....Do you have even an ounce of "living water" in you?.

We Orthodox do not use our traditions. We use DIVINE traditions.
