Are We To Be Blessed Now

Is there a scripture where Jesus himself tells us he wants us to live happily now, not just when we get to Heaven? We are all dying, and the world is full of pain and hunger, but does Jesus want us to be glad about our children and other blessings while still on the earth?

Nana. The law was a tutor to bring man to Christ that we might be justified by FAITH . But once that faith has come we are NO LONGER under a tutor (the law).(Gal 3:24,25).

The likes of Francis is what 1Cor 5 speaks against. Spiritual fornication with Hagar (works of the law). Scripture warns us not to fellowship with such because a little leaven (doctrine of works of the law, Matt 16:11) leavens the whole lump (Gal 5:9).

1Cor 5:7 says to PURGE OUT the old leaven.

"Therefore PUT AWAY from among yourselves that wicked person" 1Cor 5:13

---Haz27 on 1/28/13

1Cor 5:9-13 speak of a brother which is a "a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner".
I see in francis a strong love and zeal of God.

Luke 2:21_24 "And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord,..."

I take you also call Mary and Joseph as being in "spiritual fornication with Hagar ( works of the law)"?

Do you?
---Nana on 1/28/13

Nana. Read 1Cor 5:9-13. Christians judge those who claim to be Christians but are in spiritual fornication with Hagar ( works of the law).

James 4 is speaking to the likes of Francis who judge righteousness by works, just as the Pharisees did.
---Haz27 on 1/27/13

all of francis post are concerning the law. I've never read as many post on the law as francis pushes. maybe someday francis will figure out we are under grace. we do try to abide but humans just can't keep the ten commandments if we tried. that is why I love salvation by grace thru faith.
---shira4368 on 1/27/13

The use of James 4:4 is way off in application to francis.
James 4:12 you say? If francis is judging, you are judging that he is judging and therefore as guilty.

James 4:7_8 do not apply to you, since you are immune to the devil, there is nothing to resist, right?
Cleansing your hands and purifying your heart is below you too, being that you do not sin, right?
That is left for some lower serfs, right?

No wonder you call anyone disagreeing with you a left winger, you are full of rights...!
---Nana on 1/26/13

Francis, you take scripture out of context.

Rom 2:14, then why is it SDA's DON'T keep the law? And why do SDA's avoid discussion of their failure to keep the law (being guilty of ALL of it)?

Acts 17:30 is not preaching works of the law as you suggest. Note how "certain men" BELIEVED Paul's gospel about the resurrection of the dead.

James 4:17. The "good" this speaks of is BELIEVING in Jesus. Unbelief is "sin", John 16:9. James 4 refers to the likes of you, Francis.
Note James 4:4 speaking to spiritual adulterers. These are those who, as in James 4:12, are judging righteousness by works of the law (SDA doctrine).

James 4:7,8 is a salvation call to you.
Repent and believe in Jesus.
---Haz27 on 1/25/13

do the SDA believe that they are the only ones going to heaven?
---trey on 1/24/13

Romans 2:14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another, In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

Acts 17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at, but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth [it] not, to him it is sin.
---francis on 1/25/13

Hi francis, may I just state that I do not believe for one second that in your mind you are wondering which group.

On a related note, and out of curiosity, do the SDA believe that they are the only ones going to heaven? I know they believe they are the only ones that worship God correctly, and that all others are apostate.
---trey on 1/24/13

francis, the passages in (Exodus 15:26) is not speaking about Christians, but the people of Israel at the time of the Exodus. They would be healed for been obedient to the Lord. So don't wonder what kind of Christians they were.
Second, you say,
"You wonder which group of christians
"diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes,?"

No one can keep all His commandments and His statues. Believers today are obedient, but never perfect obedience. Only Jesus Christ could do that, the reason everyone needs Christ to atone for their sins.

Geraldine,

Jer29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Psalms118:24 This is the day which the LORD hath made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.
I believe we should rejoice and be glad in every day the Lord has given us. Each day is a gift!

Luke10:20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you, but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

We can rejoice in this every day!!!

For me the greatest blessing as a Christian is PEACE. Having Peace with God and having the Peace of God. That peace brings JOY, LOVE and so many spiritual blessings beyond anything this world can bring and or give.
---kathr4453 on 1/23/13

Geraldine: God does not make people sin. God was sorry that he ever made man so he made a way for man to be saved from hell. we are born in sin. satan uses every little thing to distract anyone. most sin starts with our eyes. murder, adultry, stealing and many more sin that starts when we use our eyes to look. bible tells us to cry when one is born and be happy when one has died. I will find the verse and book because I don't know where that is found. God bless
---shira4368 on 1/20/13

God wants us to be happy on His term, at least that is what He said to me..."Whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he" Proverbs 16:20. "Therefore joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation" Isa. 12:3. "I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart" Ps. 40:8. Yes, God wants us to enjoy His blessings. Spiritual and temporal blessings.
---pat on 1/16/13

[d]oes Jesus want us to be glad about our children and other blessings while still on the earth?

Being joyful is not a natural emotion, but a supernatural weapon in the face of adversity.
Jesus said in John 16:33, "In the world you will have tribulation but be of good cheer for I have overcome the world."
James wrote in his epistle, chapter 1:2 "My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations."
Joy is our strength to overcome adversity.

Geraldine,

Please consider these scriptures:
Joh16:24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

Php4:4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.

John16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.

God wants us to be happy. He's given us his gospel, the church, his only begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost! He gives us faith, and hope. He tells us to cast our cares upon him, and that he will never leave us nor foresake us. If we focus on Christ how can we not be happy?

Lord bless you Sister.

So, I see He is saying if you leave family people for Him
willie_c: on 11/18/12

Forgive me, if this is what you see. Then you are blind.
You are misunderstanding his word.

It's not that you should leave anyone!
But, that you should look and love everyone (not as if) but as, your family!
Nor should you look at this world as if you owned anything in it.
Now, in doing this! You will be persecuted, why?

Most of the people in this world, outright know! They own the things in it!
Nor are they going to even try to understand this.
What they're saying is, if God wanted you to have it.
It would've been your!

Much like, the word of God!
Peace

Paul says God "gives us richly all things to enjoy." (in 1 Timothy 6:17)

And Jesus says what will happen if anyone "has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel's" > the person shall "receive a hundredfold now in this time---houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions---and in the age to come, eternal life." (in Mark 10:29-30)

So, I see He is saying if you leave family people for Him, you will receive "a hundredfold" of family people, for loving. And yes I think loving is very happy and enjoyable, and so Jesus wants us to have happiness in loving.

Luk 13:2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?
Luk 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
Luk 13:4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?
Luk 13:5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

It really does bother me to no end!
When I hear things like, these things:
Are happening because their sinners.
Or its because youre not keeping the law or his commandments!
As if to say, from! We who keep them!

The people, who would have you, believe!
These things are happening only to the bad.
Are hypocrites!

Their try to keep a commandment, fail miserably.
But, dont believe they have failed!
They believe they are doing that which is right and good.
Without having the understanding from that which is, right and good!

Again Luk_13:1-6 and continue to the end!
Of the world and of time!
Have Peace with all men!
Peace

Exodus 15:26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I [am] the LORD that healeth thee.

Makes me wonder, which group of christians in the world have less diseases, and live longer?
which group of christians
"diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes,?"

From the blog responses it is becoming clear to me that I need to realize there is more than one kind of "happy." There is physical happiness, and also spiritual happiness and ego happiness. But we are wrong and foolish to complain in any of these!

Our greatest blessing is the Lord Himself. In Christ, one rejoices in the LORD always, and His other blessings, like children, are more truly appreciated as blessings coming from Him. When our minds are set on things above, we have peace and hope, contentment, He keeps in perfect peace those whose minds are set upon Him. Thats pretty happy, regardless of circumstance, though not as the world views happy
---Chria9396 on 11/17/12

The question of being happy in the midst of a tragic world has been made even harder for me after the tragedy of the deaths in Midland Texas while they were celebrating citizens' bravery. I think at the very least I should STOP COMPLAINING every day about insignificent inconveniences. It will be a hard habit to break, but a good lesson learned, and respectful of those families.
---Geraldine on 11/17/12

Yes, Geraldine, and we are happy about others being blessed, because we care about others as ourselves (c: And the true happiness does not come only with being blessed, but blessing (c:

There are awful and scary things, including what can happen to us in our old age. But if we are growing in how God has us loving, then in our old age we will have the best of love life we ever have had. So, it is wise to be getting ready to have our best life during later years - - if God wills for us to live that long.

"Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." (Romans 5:5)

---Geraldine on 11/15/12\\

Let's put it like this, Geraldine. When He went to the wedding at Cana in John 2, did he dance with the groom and other male guests (don't forget in this society, men and women did not dance together), or do you think He sat there with a scowl in His face?

When His mother asked Him to make more wine, did He tell her it was better for them to be glum?

Glory to Jesus Christ!

"does Jesus want us to be glad about our children and other blessings while still on the earth?" It's amasing what he does want us to be glad about! Luke 6:20-23 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh. Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake. Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.

Listen, or don't!
Ecc_3:1-Ecc 3:8 A time to love, and a time to hate, a time of war, and a time of peace.

To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time to every purpose, under Heaven

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time to every purpose, under Heaven!

If you didn't suffer in this world, wouldn't you fall in love with it?
Anyway, enjoy what you can in this world.
And if you suffer for it!
Peace

"Is there a scripture where Jesus himself tells us he wants us to live happily now, not just when we get to Heaven?"
Geraldine Jesus' sermon on the mount [Mat. 5:3-12] is all about the attitude or disposition one should embrace to live in happiness on earth. An attitude that shall also be rewarded in Heaven.
"does Jesus want us to be glad about our children and other blessings while still on the earth?"
"Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." 1Thes 5:16-18

It's late. So, I'll do my best with what I know! We are to enjoy what God gives us. I do not see I do not umnderstand how God's people can be that happy in this world, when there are people who's in tremendous suffering. And when people that you care about are dieing and going to hell.[I pray for them]. I suppose if you are one of God's own, who's had a pretty good life it's bound to be harder to really understand. I am not one of them. However, my compassion comes straight from God, and is more than I can deal with. It's not something I can just work up. Some will help out of a sense of obligation. This you will not be rewarded for. Doing good means, doing it as unto the Lord.

Holy Spirit guided both the Lord while He was on earth, and Paul, our apostle, during his ministry of grace.

The same Holy Spirit speaks much of being at peace, filled with joy, love and expectation of the future.

As far as God is concerned, both the Lord and Paul were His appointed mouthpieces.

The Lord has unfinished business with Israel, while we are being prepared for reigning with Him at His return in clouds.

Death is unnatural and ugly, poverty everywhere, and bloodshed by governments increasing. Yet those who are in Christ have an expectation, and peace with the One Who operates all according to His will.

But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
