Moses was the most humble man ever on this earth. Jesus trusted and depended solely on the Father. This is true humility. Total dependence upon the living God....When you are on your death-bed, you will be depending on God to get you into heaven....How to be? This is a process.

Probably one of the best way to humble our selves, Lord I am NOT going to do as I usually DO , instead YOU be the ONE who leads and let me follow You..It used to sound weird when a young teen, " Jesus is Lord"
I thought inside " He already is the Lord!" We all know that! "

That meant be Lord of our lives, let him lead- show us what, when, where, how we should live our lives for Him
Put total trust in Him.
Ps.51:9,10 Ps.16:2 Pro.3:5,6 Pro.11:2 Pro.15:33

Matthew 18:4
Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Philippians 2:8
he humbled himself and became obedient to death.

Mark 14:36 (HCSB)
Take this cup away from Me. Nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.

jan4378 on 2/23/13: Pride in humility is a great danger! For of course a humble person should not consider have the idea of being humble, for humility is also known to a benefit, and can lead to pride
---Peter on 2/23/13

you can be humble by refusing to claim your right to get equal with your foe/enemies,also by avoiding an entitlement attitude and practicing patience and humility instead

jan: Do you consider yourself humble? Are you proud of it?
---jerry6593 on 1/29/13

I cannot say that I am as fully humble as Jesus is.
No. I'm not proud of that. However I'm sure that every Christian endeavors to do their best.
---jan4378 on 2/23/13

Trey: We SDA's also have a foot-washing ceremony associated with communion. We call it the ordinance of humility.

jan: Do you consider yourself humble? Are you proud of it?

---jerry6593 on 1/29/13

jan: OK. Anyone other than God.
---jerry6593 on 1/17/13

You still miss my point. Christians are to be humble. What are we to say if someone wants to know if we are obedient in being humble.. say nothing?

A declaration of our humility does not violate it. Anymore than Jesus declaration did not violate his.
---jan4378 on 1/28/13

It is when another washes mine. I feel very unworthy. I always think about how the Apostles must have felt to have the Master wash their feet!
---trey on 1/22/13

Down to the nitty-gritty.

Humiliation at the hands of those who love and care for you can only broaden the heart and open the eyes.

I admire this ritual of the PBA's, and the unmasking of pride that surely must take place. Awesome.
---Phil on 1/23/13

How can I be humble like Jesus? Matthew 12:50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother. Even concerning the cup of death, Matthew 26:39, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will. 26:42 My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done. He humbled himself by becoming obedient to death. Philippians 2:8 The prayer he taught, "OUR Father ...THY WILL BE DONE." Jesus sought to please God in all he did and to glorify the Father with all his life. Other than Jesus, Moses was mentioned to be the most humble man upon the earth. (Numbers 12:3)

thanks trey for that little tid bit. when I was growing up in the late 40's and early 50's we were southern Baptist and we did wash feet. later in late 50's our church pulled away from southern Baptist because they became liberal. now we have all these non denominational churches and no one knows what they believe.
---shira4368 on 1/22/13

Sister Shira, I am a Primitive Baptist and we wash feet. What is amazing to me is that when I am washing another brother's feet is not the humbling experience. It is when another washes mine. I feel very unworthy. I always think about how the Apostles must have felt to have the Master wash their feet!
---trey on 1/22/13

Once I ask my pastor why our church didn't wash feet. He just said it wasn't in our articles of faith. As a young girl my church did wash feet. You are correct in saying it is a humble experience.

Php2:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
Php2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
Php2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Jesus obeyed the Father right to the cross. This is what Jesus wants from His people, today. Following, obeying Him.

Phil, I wish I could be humble enough to say that what you said was all truth, but I am not humble enough to compromise Truth for the sake of been humble. Here you said,

"Slaves are humble, they have been purchased from captivity, and are free to serve their masters.
Had they not been redeemed, they'd have remained captives."

Christ did set us from from the bondage or slavery of sin, but we are still slaves not to sin but to God.
"But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life" (Rom. 6:22).
---Mark_V. on 1/18/13

Part of being humble is being humiliated.

It was humiliating to descend to earth from the lofty place as Creator to become a man.

It was humiliating to be rejected by your own kinsmen and race, for no good reason.

It was humiliating to be punctured and pierced, tortured and beat, mocked and scorned, and betrayed by all.

I am persuaded that humiliation precedes humility and humbleness.

It is the only way to learn obedience. And the obedient heart is a humbled and broken heart.

The human will is strong. It is dysfunctional due to a corrupt heart and mind.

No mind outside the mind of Christ is a sane. If His mind is not in us, we will be deceived.

A new humanity, formed in the image of Christ is the only vehicle for true humility.

Walking in the new creation in Christ affords God the opportunity to build the house. Any other way is vanity, subject to loss at the Dais.

Dead men are humble. Very humble. If one has not died, and able to reckon oneself as dead with Christ, then any humility is false and futile.

Slaves are humble, they have been purchased from captivity, and are free to serve their masters.

Had they not been redeemed, they'd have remained captives.

1st Pet. 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

7 Casting all your care upon him, for he careth for you.

8 Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

Phil 2 (All)
If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,

Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Robert, I agree with michael e's answer. None of us can be humble like Christ. He is God.
While we live in this flesh, it will always be hard to be humble all the time. Our humanity interfers. We should always strive to be humble.

Sis. Elena, when you talked about your picture being removed, were you saying the picture in your profile here on CN?
---Mark_V. on 12/11/12

Elena: So very true. In fact, anyone who says that they are humble is not.

---jerry6593 on 12/11/12

Beloved, got to say that humble or humility got to agree with bro.Mike & bro.WillieC. too, I had an experience that show me.
..people can say they are. Humble. When in truth.their actions will show the real truth. I felt bad when when I saw my pic had been removed because yes! I had not too much hair ( after chemo) and my pic was replaced. So yes.
Everyone is not humble like they say they are. I am who I am just because I have cancer does not make me any less than anyone else. And once again no hair. I am me. People can take me as I am or. I am me. ELENA for JESUS forevermore.
---ELENA on 12/10/12

When Jesus was asked who was going to be the greatest in heaven, he had a child brought to him, and said the greatest will be the ones most like a little child. Little children don't keep score, don't get bossy. Do what a small child would do and you will stay humble.

//How can I be humble like Jesus?//
you can't, Jesus is God, we are not.
---michael_e on 12/10/12

how to be humble? that is the problem with church leaders they tell you 'to do' this or be this but they don't know how to describe it.
to be humble is in the parable of the arrogant pharisee & the tax collector. the scriptures said that the pharisee are so confident of their righteousness & material possessions that they LOOKED DOWN ON OTHERs. humility is to look at people with equality not based on your 'holiness or material possessions.'
---mike on 12/10/12

As Christians "we are members of one another." (in Ephesians 4:25). Each member helps the others to find out how to be humble (c: So, we become humble like Jesus, together with each other and not each one on one's own.

So, we need to share with one another, become humble in how we learn to relate with each other > "submitting to one another in the fear of God." (Ephesians 5:21) "nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock." (1 Peter 5:3)

So, being humble does not come only with being broken by problems, but especially with learning how to love any and all people, like Jesus has done. He is so greater than anyone, but not conceited but loving all (c:

John 13:12 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?

John 13:13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well, for [so] I am.

John 13:14 If I then, [your] Lord and Master, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another's feet.

John 13:15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

John 13:16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord, neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.

Jesus explains it this way, "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."
Humility is in the state of mind we embrace. Therefore "[cast] down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought [captive] to the obedience of Christ, not [thinking] of [oneself] more highly than [one] ought". "Serving the Lord with all humility of mind." Mat 11:29>2Cr 10:5>Rom 12:3>Act 20:19>

Robert: Good question. To be "Christlike", study & meditate on the Word of God (the Bible) daily. Then put what you learn into daily practice. God bless!

For ordinary mortals, there is only one way to achieve humility.

That's by being humiliated--and graciously accepting humiliations.

Glory to Jesus Christ!
