FYI: Lot & his oldest daughter, being the parents of Moab, were distant ancestors of the Moabitess Ruth, wife of Boaz, (great...grandson of Judah & Tamar). Boaz & Ruth were both the grandparents of Jesse & great grandparents of King David...

"Lot was a righteous man."
---Love.wins on 2/19/13

Yes, Lot was a righteous man (2 Pt. 2:7, NLT) who (LIKE US ALL) made some really bad decisions in his lifetime*. But, like King David, he had a heart of repentance towards God.

* Lot let the city lights & green grass fool him. (G13:10-11)

* He panicked & offered his daughters to the Sodomite mob for their sexual pleasure. I believe that made the girls very bitter towards him & his wife. (G19:6-8 ~ Eph. 6:4)

* Apparently Lot's "sons in-law" didn't respect him, probably because of his compromised lifestyle in Sodom. (G19:14)

"...if Lot's daughter's knew their mother was dead, why would Lot not know it also?"
---atheist on 2/21/13

Good question!:) Remember, Lot offered the girls to the Sodomites & Mama Lot said nothing in their defense. The girls likely bore a grudge afterwards. Though safe in Zoar, the heat of fire, smell of sulfur & a very thick, eye burning smoke filled the air as the Lots cowered under a covering. Quietly, Mama Lot stole away from Zoar & "WENT BACK" towards Sodom & got herself killed. The girls saw her leave, but said nothing. Stressed out Lot didn't know she was gone even when they later fled to the hills, but yeah, the girls knew! How else could they've done what they later did to him?
---Leon on 2/21/13

---e.lee7537 on 2/18/13

e.lee: I don't believe Lot knew his wife was dead when his daughters got him drunk & seduced him.

G13:7-10 indicates Lot was a wealthy man with herdsmen (obviously he had a herd). But, when he & family fled Sodom they took none of their possessions. He was broke!

The Lots didn't have to end up in a cave if they'd only stayed in Zoar. (G19:20-30) The Lord said he'd protect them there, but Lot panicked & headed for the hills.

I believe atheist is hell bound and not a Christian. no one in their right mind would say they don't believe in any god. while many may not be saved I think even sinners believe there is a God. if you mention Jesus Christ, you will get a different reaction from just saying God. anyone will talk to you about God but they won't talk to you if you mention Jesus.

Leon, you can post my name, I don't mind, concerning the CN blogger. When you post a question that has no biblical answer, what you are doing is asking for opinions and to speculate. When people answer you with their opinion you tell them they are wrong as you did Cluny. He gave you the opinion of someone and you jump on his case for giving an opinion outside of canon. But when you give your opinion or speculate we are to take it as Truth. If neither one is truth how can yours be truth if it is not in Scripture?
We are to use our minds and think, I never reject using our minds to find the Truth. In this blog, no one knows why Lot got drunk. Anyone who answers is only giving their opinion. No one has the Truth on this question, not even you.

athiest, the Bible is the truth of who God is. You question His motives, when you do not even believe there is a God. What do you care how He controls His Creation? How He goes about doing things? It should matter nothing to you anyway.
But since this blog is an opinon blog, you have a right to your opinion. If you are a real athiest, you should hang around those you love, other people who think like you. Poking fun at someone you don't believe in is pretty foolish.

FELLOW BLOGGERS: There's a CN blogger who is adamantly opposed to the use of deductive reasoning. He says speculating, meditating upon the Bible, is unbiblical & shouldn't be done. We're not to use our God-given minds to connect with the deep things of God. If it isn't plainly stated in the Bible, then we're not supposed to know. ?! To me, that flies in the face of what Jesus said about seeking & you will find. According to his legalistic views, it's illegal (unlawful) to think out loud. Bizarre! What do you say? Thanks!

SPECULATE:
1. To engage in thought or reflection, meditate (often followed by on, upon, or a clause).
2. To indulge in conjectural thought.
---Leon on 2/14/13

Leon, there you go again, speculating. Here you answer with,

"G19:32 indicates his daughters knew Mama Lot was dead, but Lot didn't know. G19:33-35 indicates Lot didn't "know" it was his daughters that lay with him. I believe he thought, both times, they were his wife."

You believe he though, both times they were his wife. How do you know he thought that? Did he tell you? Did God tell you? Yet, if someone answers different, they are wrong, but not you. You have all the answers not in Scripture.
Now I find you on other blogs trying to cut me down for bringing the Truth to you. I'm pretty sure you would love me if I agreed with you. Sorry, I cannot force you to love me, it has to come from God.
---Mark_V. on 2/14/13

Atheist: Please forgive me for being cranky, abrasive & feisty. I'm trying desperately not to become one of those Muppet Show old geezers. Oops! I almost started to say pray for me. :)

I believe Lot & family were real people, like us. Mark says we can't know exactly what they were thinking & that's true. But, we've all blown it occasionally & have found ourselves running from bad situations, & the people who depended upon our lead were confused & maybe even mad...

I want to flesh out the Bible people & get as close to the heart (spirit) of the matter as possible. How? Knowing what I know about me & other people, I can pretty much target motives, actions & reactions.

Anywho, sorry!!! :)

FYI: The only reason I ask these questions is to somehow show bloggers the people in the Bible were more than just characters in a book. They were very much living, breathing PEOPLE LIKE US & we are extensions of them. If we can connect with that, then things we don't think are possible to understand might be shown to us.

We are living, "2013 Bible" characters with all the good & bad characteristics of people in the Bible (Gen.-Rev.). Bible genealogies show character traits were passed from generation-to-generation. Should we be surprised that we also have like tendencies?

Accusers of me & others of adding to the Bible, know this: Your being alive is adding to the Bible. You are spoken of in the Book! :)

GOD was displeased with Lot's wife when she looked back when she was admonished strongly by the LORD's holy angels NOT to look back. Read the last part of LUKE 17! Just like how LUKE 9:62 also warns us against "looking back at the plow", it makes us UNFIT for GOD's Kingdom. That CAN'T be a good thing with GOD! We need to ADD Scripture Verses together, sometimes, to get GOD's full meaning about some things and to know how HE feels about those certain things.

Cluny asks, "please quote the verse in the Bible that says that Jacob was drunk." John 2:1-10 Wine was served at a wedding feast. Do you think it different, Genesis 29:22? Laban intended that Jacob not know who he was going to bed with. Genesis 29:22,23 So Laban brought together all the people of the place and gave a feast. But when evening came... Cluny, will you suggest that no one ever has served wine at wedding feasts? That drinking excessively at celebrations never occured in the Bible? People were getting drunk in the Bible at communion celebrations. 1 Cor 11:20-21 So when you come together, it is not the Lords Supper as one person remains hungry and another gets drunk.

It just seems plausible as a part of Laban's scheme.

I imagine it was dark and I imagine as he was drunk that he thought he was having relations with his own wife. May be his daughters somewhat resembled her and may be they whispered in his ears familiar words that their mother was known to say and fed him soft words masquarading like Jacob pretending to be Esau. Because he was drunk, he may have thought he was dreaming. When pets and people die, people hear familiar sounds and footsteps and call to the deceased.
