The new wine which Jesus speaks of is the new covenant

Wine is a symbol of the blood of Jesus

1 Cor 11:25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

Hebrews 8:13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old [is] ready to vanish away.

Hebrews 12:24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

This is why those in Christ do not perform any blood sacrifice, we have the new wine, not the old blood of bulls and goats, but the blood of Jesus

francis, Jesus was perfect. He never sinned here on earth and he don't sin now. but....people aren't perfect and people sin every single day. do you compare yourself to Jesus Christ?

Trey: 'When Christ came to earth he did not take the Old Jewish Law Service and redo it. He started over with a new way of worship.'

In general, if you take all the OT laws, this is completely true.

BUT - the basis of the OT laws is the 10 commandments, which remain with us now, so we keep what is important - God just distilled away the important laws, and gave us what is important

REPHRASE THIS GARBAGE

Luke 4:16 as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

Matthew 8:4 And Jesus saith unto him,..go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

Jesus NEVER changed the way of worship, he followed ALL the Laws of God and laws of Moses

Galatians 4:4 God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

//When Christ came to earth he did not take the Old Jewish Law Service and redo it. He started over with a new way of worship.

Trey is totally correct.

However, there are legalists that demand adherence to selected Old covenant laws not found within the New Covenant.

They assert that the OT law merely changed place - from what was written on stone and other forms to the hearts of believers.

But Nowhere does the Bible really say that all 600+ commands / laws were written onto believers hearts. What was written onto believers hearts = love toward God, towards His church, towards His truth, and towards others, the latter fulfills the law.

But Romans 13:9-10 is not something Sabbaterians wish to acknowledge.

trey, I like your comments about Christ but what you said had nothing to do with new wine and old wine. I do understand your commentary.

Sis. Shira, brother Trey and brother Joseph gave very good answers. I was going to answer the same but saw how they answered and they were great answers. It is always best to ask questions as you do many times because some really don't know and act like they do, because they never ask, they just take what someone said to them and not listened to others who might have the truth. This studies, after all, are for the glory of Christ. Peace

Hi Shira,

If you will allow me I will expand on what Christ is teaching.

When Christ came here to earth he did not take the Old Jewish Law Service and redo it. He started over with a new way of worship.

He showed us that the Lord God who is all righteous and just is also our Heavenly Father and full of love and mercy.

Christ showed us that it is not circumcision of the flesh but circumcision of the heart that matters.

He showed us that God's people are not just the Jews but the Gentiles also.

He showed us that the 10 commandments are really for our benefit to teach us love for each other and for God.

He showed us that true worship is done in love and not by following the letter of the law.

\\\I am still studying this..thanks cluny for your sarcastic statements.\\

Any time, shira. Any time.

However, if you understood the actual process of wine making, and what vintners meant by "old wine" and "new wine," it might help give you insight into Christ's metaphor.

Remember when Jesus compared us with sheep, He was NOT being complimentary. Sheep are noisy, smelly, and stupid.

Glory to Jesus Christ!

trey thanks for your words. of course cluny has something smart to say about everyone here. I think he is old and bored. I knew there was a spiritual meaning but I had problems applying it to the spiritual realm. I am still studying this..thanks cluny for your sarcastic statements.

\\ I actually want others opinion of new and old wine.\\

Oh, I get it now.

You don't want FACTS about old and new wine, and what these terms really meant in Biblical times.

You just want OPINIONS about them.

Is that right?

Remember, Facts and Opinions are not always the same, shira.

Opinions are like tushies. Everybody's got one, and they are all filled with the same stinky stuff.

Glory to Jesus Christ.

What is the difference in new wine and old wine?
---shira4368 on 2/14/13

Old wine tends to ferment
New wine is pure

Isaiah 65:8 Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and [one] saith, Destroy it not, for a blessing [is] in it: so will I do for my servants' sakes, that I may not destroy them all.
---francis on 2/15/13

"What is the difference in new wine and old wine?"
Shira4368 new wine is wine that has recently started the fermentation process.
Old wine is wine that has all but completed that process.
---joseph on 2/15/13

Hi Shira,

I am guessing that you are referring to:
Mt9:17 Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.

If you ever get a chance to see new wine fermenting it bubbles and produces carbon dioxide gas. The bottles Christ was speaking of were made of animal skins. When they were new they could expand, but old skins would already have stretched and would burst if new wine was put in them. Due to all of this they put new wine in new skins.

Christ is really speaking of Christianity verses the old Jewish Law Service. This was a mystery to the Jews and still is to the SDA. :)
---trey on 2/15/13

Shira4368: OLD WINE: is the doctrines of the leaders of Israel which is a mixture of God's teaching + their own invented teachings. This they force on the people who believe that it is all from God. NEW WINE: Teachings of the God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

\\cluny, you said exactly what I thought you would say, new and old wine is in the bible and I doubt if a winemaker would know the things of God. \\

Why should a vinter NOT know the things of God, shira? Answer THAT question. Are you speaking through mere cultural prejudice?

francis and jerry might well make a similar comment about making pork and sausages, saying a swineherd would not know the things of God.

The "strong drink" does not refer to wine, but to distilled liquors, such as whiskey. Distillation was known and practiced in ancient times.

You've come to the wrong source. There are a lot of people who believe that the Decalogue includes "Thou shalt not drink."

You'd do better to ask a wine store or wine maker.

What is not different is that there are people who can get into an argument about what each one is, and if one must drink only grape juice. One thing is, that the new wine in new bottles will become old wine in old bottles. So, technically, the only difference is one is already old and the other isn't. But both will become old.

But for Jesus' parable about this, I believe new wine means all that has to do with Jesus. And old wine means all the stuff that was in unsaved and hypocritical Jews . . . what would get older and would totally spoil them (2 Timothy 3:13) in the end. But the new wine means all that is of God's love (Romans 5:5) making us more and more how Jesus is, never spoiling . . . "incorruptible" (1 Peter 3:4).
