Nikki, Francis is correct. What do you mean by work and yelling? The analogy is, once we are IN CHRIST, there is still work and yelling to do. All the ITES represent areas of sin in our own life we overcome through the power of the Holy Spirit, by faith growing up into the fullness and stature of Jesus Christ. Or what some call the victorious life.

Unfortunately the Calvinists thought it meant coming to America and killing the Indians conquering what THEY said was the NEW promise land, the New Jerusalem, and claimed THEY were God's NEW chosen people. Just read, The Light and the Glory by Peter Marshall.

They TOTALLY missed the spiritual application.

Taking thought captive-
I Corinthians 10:2 "And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea,"

I Corinthians 10:4 "And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of the spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ."

II Corinthians 10:3 "For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:"
4 "(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds,)"

Ephesians 6:12 "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."

They were in the land, they had not yet possessed / conquered it. Let me put it to you this way, and we will both peacefully agree: In order for them to possessed the land, the had to fight against the inhabitants of the land. To fight against the inhabitants, they had to be face to face with the inhabitants because at that time in earths history, we did not have air raids, or ICBMs, combat was done with the edge of the sword, face to face, to be face to face with the inhabitants, they had to be in the land.

That's a lot of work and yelling to do if you already in the promise land.

Marks, I didn't write John 3: 14-17, GOD DID.

Those who sinned against MOSES who looked upon the bronze serpent were healed. Who said anything about eternal life in this scripture? I sure didn't. These same men had no FAITH to enter the promise land= salvation, Hebrews 3 and 4 back that up. So NO, no eternal life was given in the wilderness...if that were so ALL regardless would have been bitten, and ALL , individually would have had to look up.

But it is GOD who uses this same FAITH application in John 3:14-17.

You really must have learning disabilities MarkV, TOTALLY TWISTING what I said, replacing it with your twist, and accusing me of saying it. Pathetic.

Joshua 1:11 Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals, for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the LORD your God giveth you to possess it.

Joshua 4:20 And those twelve stones, which they took out of Jordan, did Joshua pitch in Gilgal.

Once they crossed the Jordan river, they were in the promise land

Gilgal is part of the promise land

Here is a good example of how stories are twisted around. Kathr claims that the context in Numbers 21:4-9) is talking about faith and eternal salvation. Not true at all. The people were whining to Moses why he took them out of Egypt, So the Lord sent serpents among the people and many begin dying of the bits for their disobedience, so they ask Moses to go to God, he did, and Moses was told to make a fiery serpent and set it on a pole and anyone bitten who looked at the serpent would be healed.
They were under a covenant of works of obedience. Obey and live, disobey and die. Nothing is mention concerning faith in God or eternal salvation. At least not in that story.
---Mark_V. on 7/20/13

Kathr, Thank you, Thank you! You made my point for me by telling me to read 2 King 18:4.
MarkV, please read it.
Because it shows that the sin is not in making graven images, but in worshiping them!

2 King 18:4b...He smashed the bronze serpent called Nehushtan which Moses had made, because up to that time the Israelites were burning incense to it.

But, Kathr as you said, ONLY those who were bitten by the serpent had to look at the bronze snake to be healed.

You are correct. ONLY those who sin need Jesus.
Please read James 2:18-26

Francis, sorry, I must answer this post here.

They did not enter the promise land. Being outside the promise area isn't being in the promise land. There wasn't any provisions promised by the Lord outside of Jericho. That's way is was opened to the public. The valuables were inside walls.

I look at a mansion from outside the gated fence all I want, but I can't enjoy the feast inside the mansion.

Luke 16:19-26
Lazarus was outside the door of the rich man eating sumptuously.
Lazarus died due to lack of food because he wasn't inside.
Next there was a chasm between the rich man in hell and Lazarus in the true promise land.
One step outside the Promise land still means NOT INSIDE.

Nikki ONLY, Those who rebelled agains Moses were bitten by snakes in the wilderness. God gave a very easy lesson in FAITH here, "look upon this bronze serpent and you will be healed" Nothing magic about the bronze serpent. It was just obeying what God said to do IN FAITH. Only the ones who rebelled were bitten, therefore only those had to acknowledge their sin against Moses who looked up were healed. Many died who refused to look up. Called faith without works. The WORKS here was to LOOK UP at it.

The lesson of FAITH is what is shown here.

However, we see what happened YEARS later re:that bronze serpent and taking and worshipping it, making the same mistake in idol worship.

Please read 2Kings 18:4
---kathr4453 on 7/20/13

Nikki, I agree, the serpent represents "Christ Crucified"...who became a curse for us, who took our sin upon Him. So, we do need to "by Faith " believe Jesus died in our place, so that we may live through Him.

Maybe that part I didn't make clear. But the serpent does not represent the RISEN CHRIST. And our healing, re salvation is in the Risen Christ. We are saved by His Risen Life.

Hope that clarifies.

heretic francis, it is you who is a hypocrite, you preach the law, and agree with someone who breaks the law. That is what is called a hypocrite, you say,
"Nikki is correct, the commandment does not prohibit making graven images, it prohibits bowing down to them and worshiping them" you are wrong even on the commandments,
"You shall not make for yourself a carved image-any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth,
and you shall not bow down to them nor serve them."

The second commandment prohibits the making of carved images, and second to not bow down to them.
---Mark_V. on 7/20/13

On the cross Christ kept His promise: I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed, it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.Genesis 3:15

The serpent, though a symbol of sin, is defeated at the cross

2 Cor 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin

And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:14

Life is granted to all who will look to the cross, where sin is crucified

If you have been bitten by sin,(who hasn't)look to the cross..that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. Numbers 21:8

Nikki, the bronze snake represents SIN, or a reminder of the serpent who deceived Eve whereby Adam sin passed on to ALL. By looking at the serpent they were acknowledging SIN and their sin.---kathr4453 on 7/19/13

I disagree. The bronze serpent represents Christ on the Cross.
Jesus states as I am lifted up as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert.

Remember, the Israel first had to be bitten by the serpents.
Those who reject salvation, died.
Those who wanted to be saved only had to look at the bronze serpent and live. Choice.

So, as with us. We are saved by the Cross, if we chose to take the free Salvation. Our Choice.

As Calvin said the Ten Commandments are Moral laws that are abbreviation of all the laws of the Old Testament dealing with moral issues. They are to show us we are sinners. They are to show us right and wrong and they are to be followed by all who call themselves Christians.

If you do not believe me then look it up. He wrote many sermons on the Ten Commandments being for Christians.

Nikki, the bronze snake represents SIN, or a reminder of the serpent who deceived Eve whereby Adam sin passed on to ALL. By looking at the serpent they were acknowledging SIN and their sin.

Just as Moses held up that which points to SIN, even the Law, Jesus tells us today If HE be lifted up, as Moses lifted up the serpent, again, the CROSS is in sight here, Acknowledging of SIN and SALVATION is available to ALL who whosoever believes. Read John 3: 14-17....it explains it.

the command is NOT about building statues, but about not building statues to worship or bow down to---francis on 7/18/13

MarkV, I re-post this, since it seems you overlooked his post.
---Nikki on 7/19/13

Nikki, it matters not when God said not to make idols, He said it and you should obey. You do not want to obey because you have a lot of idols and even bow down to them. It's a Catholic thing. Do away with the Second Commandment and you can make and worship any idol. Open season for all Catholics. And of course you have to make an excuse for disobeying God.
If He says, build the Arck of the Covenant with to Angels on top, you should obey. The whole Old Testament is about obedience, not salvation, for the law could not save anyone. All it did was condemn them. Showed them their sins. Hello
"Disobedience"
---Mark_V. on 7/19/13

We take every thought captive by holding it up to the word of God.

Read the Bible. Even if things don't make sense, or you just don't understand it at first. When the time comes, The Lord will, by the power of the Holy Spirit, bring a verse to your mind, and teach you through every day experiences. Obey what you do understand. Think of things as Philippians 4 says, that are good, Holy, etc, and the Power of The Holy Spirit will take you to higher ground.

Don't live by your emotions, but faith in God's word and promises, no matter what..we live by faith, not by sight, or feelings.

You should be obedient and not question God.---Mark_V. on 7/18/13

Indeed, indeed! So why are you questioning God?

Your explanation would be a perfect except one thing.
You changed the events.

GOD first gave the 10 Commandments Exodus ch 20
Then instructed the ARK's building plan ch 25
Next, the people were bitten by the serpents, So God instructed the bronze serpent Numbers 21 as evident by Arron death in Numbers 20 who was around when the 10 Commandments were given and and the supervision of Ark's construction since he was the High Priest.

Good one, if I have never read the Bible.

Nikki, you say,
"Tell it to God who told the Israelite to make an image of a snake.
But, God didn't stop there!
He next told them to look at it if they want to be healed"

That is a very stupid answer and here is why,
If God "tells you to make a snake out of wood," what are you suppose to do? Be obedient, and not question God why.
And if God says later to you, do not make carve images of anyone in the heavens and under the ground, and under the water, what are you suppose to do? Be obedient. You should be obedient to God no matter how you feel about anything. What you are doing is saying, God did it, why not I?"
You should be obedient and not question God.
---Mark_V. on 7/18/13

The second, is not to make carve images of those under the ground, under the water, or in heaven. So if you make a carve image of St. Peter, you are not allowed to do that, and you should now bow down to it.---Mark_V. on 7/17/13

Tell it to God who told the Israelite to make an image of a snake.
But, God didn't stop there!
He next told them to look at it if they want to be healed.

BLASPHEMY, to make the Israelite think the bronze snake healed them and not God!
Oh wait a minute, HE IS GOD!

So either you got it wrong, or God did?

Guess what? You got it wrong!

By the way, The 2 commandments you gave me means the same!
No gods before me, and don't make a god of anything is saying the same thing.
---Nikki on 7/17/13

Nikki, the Truth is hard for you to grasp. The Ten Commandments cannot be compared with a Jigsaw Puzzle, never. They are commandments God wanted us to follow.
1. You shall have no other gods before Me.
2. You shall not make for yourself a carved image-any likeness of anything that is in heaven above or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them nor serve them..
The two are not the same. The first you shall not have other gods before Me. No deity can be before God.
The second, is not to make carve images of those under the ground, under the water, or in heaven. So if you make a carve image of St. Peter, you are not allowed to do that, and you should now bow down to it.

MarkV, read the Commandants again. In your version or my version. My has you first 2 together, while your last one is my 2 apart.

Just because you all rearranged the Commandants doesn't mean a Commandant have been taken out.

Take a complete box of jizsaw puzzles and shake it up.
(no matter the number)
Better yet, get the 10 piece one to make my suggestion easy to undertstand.

Put the 10 piece puzzle together. Take it apart and put it back into the box.
Shake it up again. Take it out.
Put is together again.
Do this over and over with all 10 pieces and you will see no matter how much you rearrange the puzzles it is still all THERE!

Nikki, What God says, we do as obedience. What He says to not do we should not do. You know that, Yet, you get on your knees and pray to idols, asking them for miracles. To protect your families, friends. Your dependance is on them not God. Your church has been an idol worshipping church since they removed the 2nd Commandment. In time, even Mary was idolized. The fact remains that Jesus Christ slowly was removed from the Throne. First as the Head of the Church, then by priest forgive sins against God, then worshipping idols. All through history they abandoned Jesus Christ. You go to the shrine in San Juan Texas, or the two big Shrines in Mexico of our lady of Guadalupe you will experience the Catholic faith.

MarkV, God had to be careful we the infant Israel. He knew everything matters. That's why Moses couldn't enter the promise land after hitting the rock twice.
I believe the 1st commandment, 2nd for you, is speaking against idol worship above or in place of God. Anything including money, work or the like.

Nikki, the second commandment does prohibit the making of carved images-any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth" (Exo. 20:4) another thing is to not bow down to them nor serve them.
When God ordered Moses to make the snake, it was by God's command that Moses made it, he was not disobeying God but obeying what He told him. Moses was to "lift up" the snake, which was an antitype of the Type which was Jesus Christ in (John 3:14,15) and faith in Christ, here people were to look at it and they would be healed. By looking up they were displaying their faith in God that they would be healed, and they were by God not the snake.

2 Corinthians 10:4-5 how do yo take every thought captive?

Romans 12:1-2 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

You control your thoughts by not giving into them. It is Satan's job to try to lure us away from God and it is our job to know the Word of God and fight him with that Word just as Jesus did when He quoted the Word to rebuke Satan's attempt to lure Him into sin. We must also realize God gave us "Power over all the power of the enemy" Luke 10:19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions, and to overcome all the power of the enemy. Know yourself well enough to recognize when a thought doesn't line up with who you are, rebuke it in Jesus name, and don't receive such thoughts. Be prayed up and stay close to God,and ready to do battle with the darkness which tries to bring you down.
---Darlene_1 on 3/14/13

Francis - does obedience to the law enable one to be free of sin?

Is it even possible for one to obey all the law all the time. The poor Apostle Paul really did not believe so as he complained "the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do." Romans 7:19

Or is the believer viewed as righteous by God apart from the law?

You really need to think about what the Scripture teaches to answer these questions.
---e.lee7537 on 3/14/13

there is only one way to even try to take every thought captive. you must pray and keep your eyes on Jesus. your eyes is the beginning of a destructive lifestyle. watch what your eyes see. satan has a heyday with our minds. watch what your mind thinks about. stay in a constant state of prayer. pray, pray, pray no one is perfect so don't even try to be perfect. we still live in the flesh.

"how does God then judge the world?"--francis on 3/12/13

The world is judged on whether they believe in Jesus. Unbelief is the sin the world is convicted of, John 16:9.

Francis you should repent of your unbelief. The Pharisees likewise refused to submit to God's righteousness. They insisted on establishing their own righteousness by works of the law instead, Rom 10:3.
Your desire to be under the law shows that you have not brought your thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ. Your thoughts of righteousness by works exalts itself against the knowledge of God.

For a Christian, our faith is counted for righteousness, Rom 4:5.
This means that Christ is the END of the law/10C for righteousness, Rom 10:4

Francis,
Have you looked at a graven image of Jesus, Peter and Mary?
Most people in the world can not read. Peter's image would have him holding 2 keys in his hands from the Gospel of Matthew.
Paul's image is a short ball man with writing instrument and tablets in his hands.
Mary's image usually has her with the baby Jesus.
St. Michael the Archangel has a sword raised over his head as in a victory pose.
No one worships these images.
Don't judge. It might seem like they are bowing to the image, but God knows the heart not you. I bowed down, touched and kiss these images with not one thought of worshiping them.

What do you say to the millions of professing christians who have graven images of jesus, mary and Jospeh and bow down to them?

What do you say to the millions more who have forgotten to keep the sabbath day holy?

how does God then judge the world?

We dont need the 10 anymore if we are born of the Spirit.
The 10 will comdemn you. The Spirit will give life. Where there is law there is no perfection. Anyone can obey laws but still hate the law giver.
Its all about spirit. The 10 commandments is for the lost man who cant find his way. The Spirit filled man isnt lost anymore, for he has found God.

Where did you get this from?:
"Paul used that metaphor concerning those who are lost by reasonings, philosophies, false religions and are men that have barricaded themselves against God and the gospel."
I love that and you see, that is all man's doing even as Paul says, "Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful, but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened." Romans 1:21

Pauls is saying the same thing the word of God says in, Isaiah 1:16_18, Isaiah 55:6_7 and
Matthew 26:41 "Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."
But I know that you blame God, Lisa.

James, in answer to your question I believe that Paul is talking about Strongholds as a metaphor which would be understandable to the Corinthians who had a fortress on top of a hill. And Paul used that metaphor concerning those who are lost by reasonings, philosophies, false religions and are men that have barricaded themselves against God and the gospel (1 Cor. 3:20). Bringing every thought to captivity emphasized the total destruction of the fortresss of human and satanic wisdom and the rescuing of those inside from the damning lies that had ensalve them. As I told Nana,
" would like to include their own self-righteous deeds to the law, and the reason they too are enslaved.

Here I will say something that most people will argue will or ignore, but I think it has value

Many things God tells us to do are not just given straight off, but are the result of slow work. Like the ten maidens, one must work or be ready - God does not make our road ready

Nana, are you in the right state of mine? Do you have a mental disability? If you do forgive me. I did not make you that way. God did.
You did asked me a question, it was addressed to me. I did not see a Lisa answering, that too is an pigment of your imagination. Second, I answered you kindly, with respect. But I can see you do not deserve respect. You are not worthy of the Truth. Those who do works for salvation, Jesus said are not worthy of the Truth. They need for God to zap them in head and brings them to faith. And He might never do that for you. That is out of my control. All I can do is give you the Truth. God knows what to do with it and who He wants to bring to faith.

Lisa, Lisa,

When you butt in a conversation, do us a favor and read well what people are saying and to what you are agreeing.
You keep coming off as an idiot with the constant, what is this? What you mean? Where you got it from?
Then again, you never've been able to hold an intelligent conversation.

haz,
You keep spinning around like a dog tryng to catch his. All you have done is spill your faith mantra with the
weaving of disparaged verses and never have answered the questions. I have asked you 2 times and if you do not have
an answer, you expect me to have one for you? (Luke 6:31) Gee sorry, maybe I offend you with Luke 6:31?

Nana. Your continual reluctance to answer for your contradictions of scripture does not help your case.
If your so certain Paul was preaching the law/10C in Eph 6, then answer those contradictions I raised about your view on it.

My point remains that if you turn back to the law/10C then you're following the lusts of the flesh, trying to establish your own righteousness. Such doctrines exalts itself against the knowledge of God. And just a little leaven (doctrine of works of the law, Matt 16:12) leavens the whole lump, Gal 5:9.
Why do you not obey the truth of the gospel? Gal 5:7

Christ is the END of the law for righteousness, Rom 10:4
Our faith is counted for righteousness now, Rom 4:5
---Haz27 on 3/8/13

Nana, I don't know what you are trying to say with this statement:

"Mark_V., is not Honor thy father and mother 1 of the 10C's?" It sure is. One of the Ten Commandments given to Israel who were and still are under the written letter of the Law. It is also a studor for all who have the imputed righteousness of Christ.
Then you say,
" Is Paul then teaching the children obedience to the flesh?" From what passage are you speaking of? So we can read the context. Then you say,
" Maybe he was not as spiritually developed as you are?" All who are born of the Spirit are exactly born of the Spirit the same. How can he be less or more?

This is what you said haz:

This is what I ask after your statement:
Ephesians 6:1_2 "Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother, (which is the first commandment with promise,)"

Haz, is not Honor thy father and mother 1 of the 10C's? Is Paul then teaching the children obedience to the flesh? Maybe he was not as spiritually developed as you are?

Stop with the evasives, 1's and 9's, you stuck your foot in your mouth so, keep it there and enjoy!

Nana: The law/10C are referred to as the ministry of condemnation/death engraved in stones, 2Cor 3:7.
And that ministry of condemnation/death was done away, 2Cor 3:7, Gal 3:25, Rom 8:2.
As scripture CLEARLY says it's done away with then why claim Paul is preaching the law still?

Eph 6:4-18 continues with that same list of advice after "obey your parents". BUT they're NOT the 10C. Why are these added and the other 9C left out? Are the other 9C obsolete and done away with?

And why do you always preach the 10C when you DON'T KEEP them yourself?

Haz, you are right, because only believers made righteous by the imputed righteousness of Christ can exhibit the love of Christ in their hearts. Those like francis and Nana would like to include their own self-righteous deeds to the law, yet those are meaningless deeds without Christ.

2 Corinthians 10:4-5 how do yo take every thought captive?

Ephesians 4:23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind,

Nana, Christians "keep His commandments", as seen in 1John 3:23:
1: BELIEVE on Jesus
2: LOVE one another

In believing in Jesus we've submitted to God's righteousness, We're thus righteous(Rom 4:5), holy(Rom 11:16), sanctified(Heb 10:10), perfected(Heb 10:14), cannot sin,1John 3:9, in Christ.

And we love one another, often seen in that we show grace/love towards one another, forgiving 7x70 just as God forgave us. So we do not judge another's righteousness by their obedience to the law/10C (ministry of condemnation/death).

As your focus is always on the Law/10C, and you rarely, if ever, refer to the gospel of grace, I guess that raises questions about where you really stand.

Believe in Jesus
---Haz27 on 3/7/13

James, the only way to control sin is to walk in the Spirit every second of your life. Very hard to do. Our flesh will distract us. But (2 Cor. 10:4,5) is speaking to believers indicating that the fromidable spiritual strongholds manned by the forces of hell can be demolished only by spiritual weapons wielded by godly believers, so singularly the Sword of the Spirit (Eph. 6:17), since only the Truth of God's Word can defeat satanic falsehoods. This is the true spiritual warfare.
Believers are not instructed in the N.T. to assault demons or Satan (Jude 9) but to assult error with the Truth. That is our battle (John 17:12: Heb. 4:12).

"Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth." (Colossians 3:2)

"No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier." (2 Timothy 2:4)

So, in our minds do not get tangled with "affairs of this life".

"nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock." (1 Peter 5:3)

Do not accept thinking about lording ourselves over people by controlling and using them, but by example win people to join you in what is good.

It says to do it. So, I understand that God is committed to have us succeed at taking every thought into captivity to Jesus . . . whatever God means by this, not only what we can think up and control, ourselves. If our thoughts are obedient to Jesus, I would think this means He gives us the thoughts.

So, we need personal submission to God . . . not only how we can make ourselves be submissive > but discover how this will be . . . with growing in Jesus.
---willie_c: on 3/6/13

2Cor 10:5 speaks of bringing into captivity every thought that "EXALTS ITSELF AGAINST THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD"

Christians bring into captivity every thought to the OBEDIENCE of Christ.
This is obedience to the gospel of Christ/believing in Jesus.

The thoughts we reject that EXALT themselves against God are the lusts of the flesh which sees righteousness through obedience to the Law/10c.

We should only glory in the Lord, 2Cor 10:17. Only those who are obedient through believing in Jesus, are approved.

BUT those who commend themselves by obedience to the law/10c,
they are NOT approved by God, 2Cor 10:18, as their thoughts of self-righteousness "EXALTS ITSELF AGAINST THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD"

I use this principle every day.

Whenever there is a thought that is contrary to the known (my knowledge) Word of God, I seize it by acknowledging it, speaking it aloud, praying and asking God to remove the thought and renew my mind, and finally speaking against it using Scripture.

It works for me and it also gives me these benefits: it forces me to know Scripture, it makes me aware of my thoughts, and it puts my dependency on God for the renewing of my mind.
---Mark_Eaton on 3/6/13

Taking a thought captive requires you to speak scripture that concerns your thoughts. As Jesus did when he was tempted of the devil in the wilderness.

Example: Philippians 4:7
"I have the peace of God that surpasses all understanding, guarding my heart and mind in Christ Jesus." (repeat over and over as needed)

When you are speaking, are you able to think contrary to what you are saying? To take captive means to seize/arrest/stop.
Another way is to give praise to God. Sing hymns of faith and adoration toward God. (Psalm 8:2)

Like Paul, a Christian is never in denial of the "wretched" state he's in, that's why only through faith in Jesus Christ is he saved. He wrote this for the Christian,

"For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me, but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me."
Romans 7:18-21
