Mr9:43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
Mr9:44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
Mr9:45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
Mr9:46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

Seems to some hell could mean whatever they will it to!

But!
I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?
God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.
"Believest thou this?"

Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Peace

hell can mean grave, or hell can mean lake of fire
Psalms 16:10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

Acts 2:27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

James 3:6 And the tongue [is] a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature, and it is set on fire of hell.

Rev_20:13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

How can it, "hell." Deliver up something it does not have?
Namely, the dead who were in them!

Rev_20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

The dead are only in three places the sea, death and hell.
From this point Death and hell, have no one anymore!
Seems to be saying the lake of fire is greater than death and hell.

Rev_20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Peace

John 5:28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth, they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life( THOSE WHO DIED IN CHRIST), and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation ( THOSE WHO REJECTED CHRIST)

I know that you do not believe that those who are in christ will be resurected to damnation do you?

Of course not

yet the bible says that they will be resurrected, same as those in christ
---francis on 4/9/13

Frances//All that John 5:2 tells us that at the Resurrection of the dead, those souls that are with Christ will be united with their bodies.

Sorry, but I am like Jesus in that I believe there is a hell awaiting for those who have rejected Him.

I just posted 8 text from both OT and NT which shows that when A person dies it is biblically considered a sleep, because all, both righteous and unrighteous shall be awakened from sleep.

Here are two more: OT and NT

John 5:28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth, they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life, and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation

Daniel 12:2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

Both the believer and unbeliever sleep until Jesus return.

Adventists do not believe in hell as the place of the damned as they believe hell is the lake of fire.
---e.lee7537 on 4/8/13

Hell as a place of the damned is more consistant with Dante's The Divine Comedy, that with the bible.

2 Peter 2:9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

So we know that the unjust are not being punished, but are reserved until the day of Judgment to be punished

A lot of what christians consider to be sacred is pagan: easter, christmas, lent, sunday as holy day, hell upon death, purgatory, babbling as tongues, the body containing a soul, the list of unbiblical teachings go on and on

Francis //show one SDA literature with soul sleep)

The word "sleep" in scripture often is simply a metaphor for being dead.

As such I believe Jesus was not an Aesop type story teller in the parable of Lazarus and the rich man in hell. Luke 16.

Yes, I realize that Adventists do not believe in hell as the place of the damned as they believe hell is the lake of fire.

But there is good reason to stick with what the church and the Jewish religion before has always held on this issue.

1 Kings 2:10 So David slept with his fathers, and was buried
Acts 2:34 For David is not ascended into the heavens:

1 Kings 11:43 And Solomon slept with his fathers, and was buried

1 Kings 14:20 Jeroboam slept with his fathers,

John 11:11 Our friend Lazarus sleepeth,

1 Corinthians 15:6 but some are fallen asleep

2 Peter 3:4 Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep,

Daniel 12:2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life ( BELIEVERS), and some to shame and everlasting contempt (NON BELIEVERS).

e.lee, if the Word of God isn't enough for 1stCliff, I doubt very much Bill Wiese can do anything to convince him that there's such a place call hell.

Remember the account (which according to 1stCliff, it's nothing but a parable) between Abraham and the rich man?

"For I have five brethren, that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets, let them hear them.

And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead."

Rather familiar, don't you think?

For myself > Ephesians 2:2 which says there is "the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience." This evil spirit of disobedience exists, and I understand God is moving it to the flaming sewer which burns with fire and brimstone, where it will be away from us where we worship our Father.

And it says God is our Potter (Romans 9:21), who makes vessels for "honor" and for "dishonor". There are sewer buckets for carrying that filth of Satan's spirit to where it is flowing.

Do not be a sewer bucket of worry and unforgiving anger and bitterness and lusts and arguing and complaining and other anti-love filth. Be a vessel of God's living and loving waters (John 7:37-39, Matthew 11:28-30).

1st_cliff//Isn't it strange that the only "proof" is a questionable parable?

Hell is mentioned over 40 times in the Bible alone. If you are really interested the best book I have ever attempted to read is by Bill Wiese "23 Questions about Hell, Everything you want and need to know."

He does an extremely good job in documenting everything in Scripture that has to do with this topic.

The book also has an interesting video.

"...but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell... there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth... Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels...

And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever."

Amen.

Agreed...people will cherry pick, obsfucate, and simply ignore Scripture. But, in their defense, most that believe in heaven and hell do not have a good grasp on it themselves.

Heaven and hell is not how good we follow the rules, but in how we serve one another.

it is interesting that some denominations who claim to teach the Bible do not even believe there is such a place as hell, a place where the damned go immediately upon the death of their body.

In Luke 16 where the beggar is in the bosom of Abraham and the rich man in torment in hell is reduced to some kind of Aesop tale, that Jesus spoke of a place called hell that really did not exist. And that just to make a point.

The SDA denominations for instance, believe in soul sleep for both believers and non-believers with a final judgment for everyone and that based solely upon how one observed the Law. Re: the SDA Investigative Judgment belief held solely by Adventism.

Yes, Cluny, I agree. I guess I put the question wrong.I was meaning, if someone wanted to know more & was earnestly seeking to know the truth. They wanted questions answered from the Bible concerning the "realness" of heaven & hell. What are the verses you would use to help build their faith?
---Reba on 4/7/13

There are many, but two of my favorites are:(Ofcourse, none of the verses on hell are my "favorites":-(
Proof of hell: Luke 16:22-23...And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torment...
Proof of Heaven: John 14:2-3-In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you, & if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again & receive you unto myself, that where I am, there ye may be also.
