Amos 3:7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

There are more things coming
the great tribulation
the mark of the beast

when these things come, God will reveal instructions to his people by his prophets

Those times, the times of the great tribulation are times we have not yet seen, they are new to us.

Amos 3:7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

Revelation 22:14 Blessed [are] they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Christan, You're twisting up the discussion, here.

Nobody's debating that Yahushua fulfilled His Work of Sacrifice and Sanctification on Earth.

What does Yahushua fulfilling the Promise of His first Advent got to with GOD having or not having modern Prophets?
---Gordon on 8/23/13

Mark_Eaton on 8/23/13

i am using it 100% correctly. It speak about whom you can go to, to hear from God

Isaiah 8:19 And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?

Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, [it is] because [there is] no light in them.

So the only ones that can be trusted to teach the word of God are those who teach the law and testimony

Same in NT
Luke 16:29 They have (THE LAW) Moses and the (TESTIMONY prophets), let them hear them.
---francis on 8/23/13

Gordon, you can go break down the OT prophecies all you want with regards to your justification that there are still prophets on this earth prophesying what's not written in the Holy Bible. For these I know for certain and with conviction are nothing but false prophets, period.

As a Christian, I know and believe the promise from God to save His people from their sins have already been "finished" by my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at Calvary. And not only that, He rose from the dead and conquered death on behalf of God's elect that we will have eternal life.

Now I await for the Day of the Lord, where the glorification of His saints WILL TAKE PLACE. Amen.
---christan on 8/23/13

Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

a simple test of truth in any prophet
---francis on 8/23/13

You keep using these verses out of context.

The verses have nothing to do with Prophets and prophesy. The Lord is speaking to His people:

Is 8:20-21 "To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because they have no dawn. They will pass through the land hard-pressed and famished, and it will turn out that when they are hungry, they will be enraged and curse their king and their God as they face upward"
---Mark_Eaton on 8/23/13

Christan, There are two parts to the fulfillment of the O.T. Messianic Prophecies. Those that pertain to His first Advent, which have been fulfilled, and those that allude to His second Advent, which are still pending.

Like ISAIAH 61:2, "...the Day of Vengeance of our GOD...",

PSALM 21:8-13 will be fulfilled after Yahushua's Second Coming and His 1,000-Year Reign on Earth.

All Prophecies given through GOD's modern Prophets today relate and lead up to Yahushua's Second Coming.

Just as Prophets were sent beforehand, in O.T. history up 'til John the Baptist, to prophesy of the Messiah's first Advent,

likewise, GOD has been sending modern Prophets to help prepare the way for the Messiah's Second Advent.
---Gordon on 8/23/13

---kathr4453 on 8/22/13
Every prophet who came after Moses, was adding to what was already established.

Consider Jonah, Jonah is sent to Nehemiah, How do they verify what he is saying is true. The whole city, a none Jewish city repents
Jonah 3:5 So the people of Nineveh believed God,..the decree of the king ... let man and ... turn every one from his evil way, ... Who can tell if God will turn and repent,

Prophets of God can easily be verified: They call people to repent from sin, and proclaim the mercy and grace of God

Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

a simple test of truth in any prophet
---francis on 8/23/13

Brother Trey, you are so right, all of it has a purpose behind it. They have to defend their own prophets. If they don't, their whole theology goes down the gutter. If you notice also, they agree with each other, to support their own prophets. They are not happy with the Word of God, it was not enough for them.
---Mark_V. on 8/23/13

Steveng, you do know the Bible was not originally in English correct. Here is a great example: The verse, " Those who wait upon The Lord....." We'll, a Pastor who was under a "works" thingy, preached one morning on that verse, using the word "WAIT" as we are little waiters in a restaurant, constantly working to serve and meet God's needs. While hearing the sermon, it upset me, and the Holy Spirit stirred in me it was not true, and pointed me to the strongs. then showed me the CORRECT meaning of that word. According to the Hebrew spelling and definition was the EXACT OPPOSITE. It means to BE STILL, be quiet, and wait upon Him, wait for Him. The true meaning is an act of faith in Him for His timing.

Christan://... 1 Cor. 13:8, "...but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail, whether there be tongues, they shall cease, whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away."// This passage is talking about things that shall come to an end with the end of the earth. As long as this earth exists, prophecy, tongues are still relevant.

Ezekiel 37:3_4 "And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest.
Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD."

Prophesy is not just the telling of what will be in the future. Look it up.

---Steveng on 8/22/13\\

Strong's Exhaustive Concordance is an index to the KJV, with every word therein, including "a," "and", and "the" are given references. Or did you not know that?

However, its lexica are not the last words in Biblical lexicography.

In any case, Strong's (as it is generally called) is a good hope to find out how a word is used in the Bible.

Francis, We know the way to salvation. Faith does not necessarily mean we have to know new things to obey the old things. The danger in adding to what is already written, is HOW are you going to verify if what someone is saying is true? For me, if something can't be backed up by any scripture, even some new revelation, I won't follow or believe it. In Noah's time, when he preached, no one knew what rain was, BUT, they didn't have to. Noah believed, yet he didn't know what rain or a flood meant either. He just obeyed God, even if it made no sense to him.

I think people who believe they can lose their salvation are more inclined to believe they need more info to make sure they stay saved.

""It is finished!" was in reference to His Ministry and His Sacrifice on the Cross completed as God the Father willed." Gordon

So, what else could be greater than the fulfilment of the prophesies in the OT by God's prophets with regards to the coming One? You mean to tell us Christians that other than Christ, there are going to be prophets far greater than the Son of God coming in the flesh and "dying for the sins of His people"?

And after Christ declared, "It is finished", shouldn't the Christian rejoice that God kept His promise and that His people can look forward to eternal life as promised?

What other prophesies are you seeking for? Seriously.
---christan on 8/22/13

We really have all we need in Revelation.
---kathr4453 on 8/22/
Here is the problem
You are 100% correct in saying that much of revelation is a repeat

The books of Daniel, and Isaiah take us from their time to the end of the earth, and the new heavens, including Judgment and the second coming, the destrtuction of the wicked

so why did we need revelation?

fact is revelation is not the end of it, especially since revelation was not the last epistle written. God may have more to say, and we must be prepared to hear from his prophets rather than deny that God can call a prophet
---francis on 8/22/13

Francis, in the book of Revelation, or the Revelation of Jesus Christ, there is a warning, not to add to it or take away from it. One thing I know, all those verses, Or I would say the majority have already been spoken somewhere in the OT and New. So is it all NEW Revelations no one has ever heard before? No.

We know the world is going to be judged, and know the OT talks often about the last days. Jesus even told us in Matthew 24-25, and we have Zechariah especially 12-14.

We really have all we need in Revelation. But one must have the mind of Christ and WISDOM OF JESUS CHRIST to know what it means. That's why it's called the Revelation of Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 14:1_3 "Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.
For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him, howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort."

---Nana on 8/22/13

Christan, Yahushua's declaration of "It is finished!" was in regards to His fulfilling the Father's Will for Him to sacrifice Himself on the Tree and shedding His Blood for the Salvation of "whosoever will" (JOHN 3:16).

"It is finished!" was in reference to His Ministry and His Sacrifice on the Cross completed as God the Father willed.

That exclamation had nothing to do with, somehow, God saying "no more Prophets will be sent forth from GOD".

Kathr, Actually, the word "Prophecy" (with a "c") is a noun. e.g. The LORD gave us a Word of Prophecy.

And, the word "prophesy" (with an "s") is the verb form, as in "to prophesy".

Like, "The Prophet Daniel prophesied a Prophecy of GOD."
---Gordon on 8/22/13

Nana, good try in using 1 Corinthians 11 & 14 to justify that there will be prophets to come even after the Holy Bible is complete. The context of Paul's account to the Corinthians was that he was rebuking them for getting carried away in what they were doing after Pentecost, which was rooted in pride and ignorance.

You conveniently forgot 1 Corinthians 13:8, "...but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail, whether there be tongues, they shall cease, whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away." - so much for prophets coming after the written Word of God is complete.

Do you even understand Christ's last words, "It is finished"?

Simply put, mission accomplished.

God is speaking through the prophets of today, but no one is listening.
---Steveng on 8/21/13

I must agree and disagree with this statement.

God is definitely speaking today, of that I agree.

What I do not agree with is you calling them prophets.

There is a move today within the Body of Christ to call ministry leaders titles that elevate them. We have leaders (calling themselves) Bishops, Apostles, Prophets, Patriarchs, Rabbis, etc., and the list goes on to infinity.

God is not a respector of persons, therefore none of these people hold any special favor in God's eyes. Nor, should they hold any special favor in our eyes.

We would do better to drop the titles and keep our eyes on Jesus.

Brother MarkV, you are right and it's biblical with regards to your comments. Hebrews 1:2 explicitly say, "Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed...".

These followers of their false prophets cannot provide us prove of another prophet that's mentioned in the Bible as specific as that of Jesus Christ. That's because there's NONE!

Paul wrote, "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears, And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables." 2 Timothy 4:3,4

Why does God need to speak to you through a Prophet when God is living in you?
---Mark_Eaton on 8/21/13
1 Corinthians 7:40 I think also that I have the Spirit of God.

Acts 21:10 And as we tarried [there] many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus.

Acts 21:11 And when he was come unto us, he took Paul's girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver [him] into the hands of the Gentiles.

I hope this answers your question. If it does not let me know
---francis on 8/21/13

why would people think that God has nothing new to say?
---francis on 8/20/13

Why does God need to speak to you through a Prophet when God is living in you? If you are a believer The Holy Spirit is within you and can speak to you directly, just as the OT Prophets were moved to speak.

2 Pet 1:21 "for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit"
---Mark_Eaton on 8/21/13

francis, Did you notice the argument of some of the doubters?

When you say that GOD has something else to say, or something "new" to say, those doubters twist what you've said by inferring that you're saying that GOD, somehow, had "forgotten" to say something.

lol. *sigh*

It's not a matter of GOD "forgetting" to say anything, Oh ye of limited Faith!,

It's that GOD "chose" not to reveal or say certain things 'until their APPOINTED TIME'.

GOD only says things in HIS Timing, not ours.

So, francis, in order to counter the Truth of what you've said, the doubters had to, first, twist the meaning of what you've said.

Pure blindness to GOD's plain and clear Words.
---Gordon on 8/21/13

francis, you now say,
"why would people think that God has nothing new to say?" Because all we needed to know from God is in the Bible. He did not forget anything to later say, "Oh I forgot to tell you guys something"
The only reason you cannot grasp that Truth is that you believe in a prophet already, and you will do anything to keep her, even to suggest that God forgot to mention certain things. Everything we need to know about Tribulations is mentioned already, even the end is mentioned already.

Samuelbb7, you asked - "What is the main job of a prophet?" - isn't it "to prophesy" the very reason why he's called a "prophet"? So after all that's written and complete in the Holy Bible, are you saying there are still NEW prophesies coming outside of the Holy Bible? Really?

Adetunji, you said - "If you cannot explain why God chose Paul after departure of the Lord from the flesh, then there are true prophets of God even today." The answer is in Acts 9:15, "But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel." You might want to check your own foot, you shot yourself!

The Gift of Prophesy today is alive and active. But we must know there is a difference between the word prophesy and prophecy.

The one spelled with a C is and was used of OT prophets. The Gift stated in Ephesians 4, spelled with an "S" means to RE-ITERATE what has already been spoken. It does not mean NEW revelations.

The TRUTH absolutely needs to be re-iterated today and tomorrow.
---kathr4453 on 8/20/13

Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
---francis on 8/20/13

The NT version of your test is this:

Gal 1:8 "But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed"

The Gospel of Jesus is the acid test, for both false prophets and false religions. The deity of Jesus is the dividing rod, as described here:

Heb 4:12 "For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart"
---Mark_Eaton on 8/20/13

---Mark_Eaton on 8/20/13

Great then test the spirits.

You have to agree with me, that there is not one single word in all of the bible, not one word from God which says that
1: he is finished speaking
2: that the bible should have only 66 books

So if people wanted to add they can add: TEST THE SPIRITS, there is one standard of all bible writers:

Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
---francis on 8/20/13

After His resurrection, Christ ascended to heaven, and He is today presenting our needs to the Father. "I have graven thee upon the palms of My hands," He says. Isaiah 49:16. It cost something to engrave them there. It cost untold agony. If we would humble ourselves before God, and be kind and courteous and tenderhearted and pitiful, there would be one hundred conversions to the truth where now there is only one. But, though professing to be converted, we carry around with us a bundle of self that we regard as altogether too precious to be given up. It is our privilege to lay this burden at the feet of Christ and in its place take the character and similitude of Christ. The Saviour is waiting for us to do this.

EGW wrote this.

Prophets ignored by the preachers are O.T. prophets.
They give witness multiples to who and where the "sheep" are and have been and will end up.

They dispel the doctrines of men and false teachings of today. Jer_26:5 To hearken to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I sent unto you, both rising up early, and sending them, but ye have not hearkened,

In Ephesians 4:11, "evangelists, pastors and teachers", we have them today to preach and teach the Word of God. But "prophets, apostles"?

The prophets of old in the OT & NT brought with them prophesies concerning God's will and things He was going to bring about in the near future. And this have been recorded in the Bible for our learning today. If there are still prophets (God's prophets ie, not the false prophets) in existence, the Bible will be rendered incomplete. Is that so?

As for apostles, they are those who literally walked with Christ during His ministry before His death with one exception, Paul, who wrote the majority of the epistles. Are there any still writing epistles?

Gordon, you and francis are two that follow prophets, and nothing anyone says is going to change that view for either one of you. I don't know why you continue to ask the same questions, when you are going to get the same answers. If the Word of God Scripture is not good enough for your life, then no one can change that. You are still going to believe in your prophet and fancis will always speak about his prophet. Nothing changes. If you are trying to get an approval, you will only get it from those who belief in prophets of their own. If it does not come from the Word of God, then it is not truth from God. Agreed, and besides this, not all prophecies are for everyone. There were prophets sent to the northern kingdom, and some to the southern kingdom, two sent to Nineveh. Some sent directly to the king and the king only, so,e sent to one apostles or the other only

To the foolish hearts: when there's a prophesy from God with regards to what's going to happen, it's immaterial if He chooses to give it to you in detail or not, that's because you have no power to change the course of events He is going to bring forth.

When God prophesied to Abraham, "Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them, and they shall afflict them four hundred years, And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance."

Did Abraham asked for the details from God? But did he believe in God? With an emphatic YES!

Prophets are needed today like they were in all of history. True prophets not only tell of upcoming events, but also to edify the church.

In the past, as written in the bible, prophets predicted events far into the future. They also preached of events that were "soon to come." God always warns his people of events to soon come to pass. There are three ways to tell a true prophet from a false prophet: one, they don't accept money, two, they abide by God's laws of preaching and, three, a true christian will know them by the spirit.

Unfortuenately, many christians will not recognize a true prophet because of their skepticism and their belief that prophets today are no longer needed or that they don't exist today.

There are some things in the book of revelation which are new, and some things which are details of Daniel

There can be new information as well as detailed information

example: Although we know that there is a tribulation to come, not much details have been revealed. So when this informationis revealed, soem of it will be details on the tribulation, but sme whill be new

francis and josef, Yes, that is exactly the part of the point of having Prophets.

Not the only reason, but, one of the reasons, anyway.

GOD does not put certain details in the Canonical Scriptures, because certain details will only pertain to a certain future generation.

I think HE makes "clues" to those details.

But, GOD has a Mouth, and HE has certain, specific things to say to any particular, given generation.

Why would HE not raise up Prophets to convey those things? (I direct that to the doubting Thomases here)

---francis on 8/17/13. "Just because an event has already been prophesied does not mean that details cannot be given as the time approaches" True.
---Josef on 8/17/13

since we don't live in Jesus day, I think its a good thing to disciple new Christians. to me that is one of the best things a church can do. we need to make sure new converts aren't deceived like many on Christianet is. that is why the answers we give here will help a new Christian or it will harm a new Christian.

"Just because an event has already been prophesied does not mean that details cannot be given as the time approaches
---francis on 8/17/13"

If I may interject?
I believe any details given would not be new, as in adding to the word, but rather, a further revelation of the word. Thus, a prophesy would be an unveiling, of what already is, and an enlightening/understanding of the word.

Their job is to train the saints on how to sow the Gospel that is their job." Bryan

Really? Where does it say so in the Holy Bible what you have just described?

"Their job is to train the saints on how to sow the Gospel that is their job." Bryan

Really? Where does it say so in the Holy Bible what you have just described? Didn't Christ say, "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself, but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come." John 16:13

I don't see anywhere in the Scriptures that says "the prophets will train the saints to sow the Gospel". You see, all the prophets with the exception Christ, were all sinners like you and I. Sinners that's deserving death unless the grace of God comes upon you.

Whether or not we now have real prophets walking and talking on this earth, we still need the prophets who have given us their messages which are in the Bible. Their messages still are needed!! But how we understand them . . .

Let me draw your attention to the books of Daniel, Isaiah, and Revelation.

The future of God's people, as well as the future of those who oppose him are well documented in the books of Daniel and Isaiah ( others books also)

yet God revealed greater details about the end times in the book of Revelation

Just because an event has already been prophesied does not mean that details cannot be given as the time approaches

Yes they are needed today Just like the rest of the five fold ministry from God. Their job is to train the saints on how to sow the Gospel that is their job. If they are true Prophets that is what they will be doing
---Bryan on 8/17/13

"Are Prophets of GOD needed today?"
Gordon as "foretellers of future events" No, the future of the body of Christ, as well as those who oppose them is in our Father's written word.
As those "moved by the Holy Spirit to speak, having power to instruct, comfort, encourage, rebuke, convict, and stimulate, their hearers", yes.
---Josef on 8/17/13

There were many prophets after Christ death
So Christ death did not bring an end to prophets in fact it guaranteed it for the future:

Ephesians 4:11 And he gave some, apostles, and some, prophets, and some, evangelists, and some, pastors and teachers,

Ephesians 4:12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

So there will always be prophets as long as there remain saints to be perfected, as long as the work of the ministry continues, and as long as there remains members of the body that need to be edified
---francis on 8/17/13

Moses in Deuteronomy 18:15 prophesied, "The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me, unto him ye shall hearken",

and the fulfill of Moses prophesy came to past in Matthew 17:5, "and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, hear ye him".

It's explicit, Christ was the final prophet from God, giving credence to Hebrews 1:2 written account "Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son". If one thinks there are still prophets, Christ calls them "false prophets and christs"!

God will raise up true prophets as they are needed, just as He provides everything as it is needed.

However, a true prophet will have a much more limited ministry than the Biblical prophets will. Cluny

Well Cluny we agree here. While I disagree with you sometimes. We do have some points in common. Glory to GOD.

Just want to take a moment of this Blog to finish up on a particular thought brought up from the previous Blog on this same subject.

A Believer can be called, by GOD, to fill more than just one of the 5 Ecclesiastical Offices of EPHESIANS 4:11-12.

The Two Witnesses of REVELATION 11 are also considered as Prophets.

REVELATION 11:6 points out that, "These (Two Witnesses) have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of THEIR PROPHECY...".

The Two Witnesses are charged, by GOD, to give Prophecy.

EGW and Elizabeth Elijah are not true prophets of God.

Glory to Jesus Christ!
