Shira: Believe what you want, but in Pennsylvania's hearing there were cases of natural born citizens, here in the United States, who were unable to obtain a copy of their birth certificates, for a variety of reasons. Born in other states, where the records were lost in natural disasters, born so long ago the records were just lost, etc. Many people, who live in large metropolitan areas, never needed a drivers license, or legal ID card, if they are a certain age. Also, many people in nursing homes were unable to obtain ID cards.

Jed: The reason given by the Republican legislator in Pennsylvania was to intentionally prevent minorities, young college students, the elderly , and poor from voting for the president in 2012.
---Grandma on 11/19/13

That is a complete lie. No republican legislator admitted to trying to prevent minority citizens from voting. They were trying to prevent illegal aliens from voting.

Furthermore, how would requiring the voter to show ID prevent minorities from voting any more than whites? Is it somehow easier for whites in Pennsylvania to get and ID card than minorities?
---Jed on 11/19/13

Grandma, please don't tell me that some can't get an ID card. Maybe they couldn't get one because they illegally here in our country.

Jed: The reason given by the Republican legislator in Pennsylvania was to intentionally prevent minorities, young college students, the elderly , and poor from voting for the president in 2012.

During the hearings to prevent the law, actual citizens testified about all they went through to obtain state identification in order to vote, and they still could not obtain ID.

Research done after the 2012 election showed that cases of voter fraud were practically insignificant.

I'm opposed to any law that blocks any citizen from voting in any election.

In this past election, there were actual cases in the news of a legislator, in a state that just changed the law, was unable to vote.

Jed: I voted in Pennsylvania, in every election, from November 1975 rill November 2012, and NEVER was an ID required of any single Pennsylvanian, during my entire voting history. There was never a Voter I.D. required in my parents' lifetimes. They were born in 1926.

Laws were passed, challenged in court, and put on hold by the judges, AFTER Obama was voted into office. One Republican legislator was quoted as saying that they were passing that law to get Romney in the White House. I do not get my news just from the mainstream media. I make sure it is confirmed by several sources.
---Grandma on 11/18/13

\\Then, within weeks of that decision, Republican state legislators and governors who reworked their states' voting laws to make it harder for minorities to vote.

I don't see how it's racist or oppressive to minorities to be able to prove who you are.

I know I have to provide a picture ID every time I use my Medicaid card. I also have to have one to get a bank account or even check out books from the library.

I had to have not only a picture ID but two bills to qualify for where I now live.

And that's your problem right there. Stop relying on the lame stream media for your news. They don't report news. They belong to the Obama administration so that is what you are going to get.

I also don't think the states changing their laws were saying anything about citizenship, since that's already required by the U.S. Constitution.

It has everything to do with citizenship, and the States didn't change anything. Every voter has always been required to show proof of citizenship (identification) in order to vote. The Obama administration (not the states) removed this requirement in order to allow illegal aliens to vote.

All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, but no [one] man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. grandma, I am totally conservative but I surely am not racist. don't let a few people keep you from knowing the truth. Obama is the racist one. he also used the race card to get his agenda approved. his wife is the one who wore 400.00 shoes to help poor blacks. Im glad she helped and everyone should help but I wouldn't go to a barndance in an evening gown. with the economy down, I wouldn't spend millions on trips and these trips are over and over. now, tell me again that tea party members are racist. Obamacare may have started out like Romney's plan but grew into something totally different. The conservative plan was for the gov't plan to compete against the private plans and open up plans across state borders. The very option that private plans were to be cancelled goes against the conservative market place, even though Obama calles is a market place. By the way next year after the employee mandate expires is when the true fisaco will start as many employee based plans will be cancelled, not just individual plans like this year.

Jed, we have a failed health care system. We spend more per capita on health care than any other nation. Of the top 8 industrialized nations, the US ranks last in safe care, efficiency and equality. We rank towards the bottom in infant mortality and preventable diseases. Out of the top 35 industrialized nations, we rank 27 in life expectancy. Using the ER for health care is NOT health care, its stopgap, expensive and fails to solve any medical problems and its simplistic to even think this is health care.

The right wing has been moaning about heath care for decades. It complained about both Medicaid and medicare. It wants to cut child health care and veterans health care. They got theirs, to heck with everyone else.

Jed, I'm fully aware that the Healthcare website for the federal website flopped big time. I also know that the number of people who have successfully signed up for health insurance on it was only around 300, on October 3rd. What I was trying to say, in as few words as possible, is that there have since been many more who have successfully signed up.

I'm also aware that when Medicare Part D first had its rollout, during Bush II, there were similar problems the first two years.

FOX News had an interesting opinion article by Juan Williams, about some of the problems occurring right now. Check it out on their website.

Obama care is a complete mess. Apologies do nothing to help those who lose their medical insurance. And nothing for those who work hard and now have to pay even more so others who don't work get it for free. Medical insurance will now rake in billions more. But as a nation we had a right to vote, and we know now how that went.

Grandma, are you seriously unaware of the Obamacare website flop? Wow. Totally disconnected, aren't you?

Where do you get your information?

Aka: A committee in the House of Representatives came up with that information on October 3rd. That was based on the first two days of the website's operation. Kathleen Sebelius stated that at that time, it was not possible to get enrollment data from the website.

As far as the administration's enrollment is concerned, I could be mistaken, but I'm under the impression they have health insurance as employees of the federal government, just like Congress.

Only 36 states use the federal website. The rest have opted to set up their own exchanges.

The only people that need to use the website are the self-insured or uninsured. Those with insurance, through employment or Medicare, don't need to sign up.
