The Julian calendar is a 365.25 day solar calendar that has a leap year every four years.
The Gregorian calendar is a 365.2425 day solar calendar, better representing one revolution of the Earth around the Sun, having 485 leap years in a 2000 year period rather than 500.
From the time of Julius Caesar to now would be 13 days difference. In 2100 A.D. there will be a 14 day difference between the Gregorian and the Julian.
The Gregorian is more accurate from a solar standpoint than the Julian, but it is not perfect either.

\\Cluny, Russian and Serbian Orthodox still celebrate on the old calendar ,this year Jan.7
Armenian on Jan.6.
Obviously your church has moved up with the times !True?
---1st_cliff on 12/11/13\\

The day the outside world says is 7 January is 25 December on the liturgical calendar (Julian or Old Calendar) of the Russian and Serbian churches.

The whole Old Calendar-New Calendar issue is bewildering to Orthodox and non-Orthodox alike.

Christ is risen!

\\cluny, I have already said you have shown no proof. maybe you are a little dense too. it isn't like coca cola that has been handed down for many years in one family.
---shira4368 on 1/8/14\\

Yes, I did, on the blog WHO OWNS THE WORD OF GOD.

I gave citations as well as I could within the rules of CN.

And I noted that you did NOT answer my questions to provide PROOF of your claim that the KJV is in public domain, but instead personally attacked me.

Christ is baptized.

\\You wrote: One way you show you are dense is when I offer many proofs that the KJV is under copyright (note the proper spelling), and you still insist it's public domain.

I didn't see these. Did you post them on another blog?\\

Several of my comments are on the blog entitled WHO OWNS THE WORD OF GOD.

**cluny, you have shown no such proof and I really don't give a rats behind if it is or not. I do know after so many years, things are public domain.

Are you trying to be Cleopatra, Queen of Denial?

Don't confuse you with facts. Your mind is already made up.

Copyright laws differ by country, but generally publishers who re-publish existing works have copyright on the new versions, but the original material's copyright expires after a given period. So while Zondevan (say) has copyright on their typesetting, marginal notes, appendices, etc., the biblical text would be in the public domain. Even if British law granted special protection to the KJV because the Crown is head of the Anglican church, American and international law would not.

\\ I will always be dense because I try hard not to get too high for my own good.

Choosing to remain in ignorance lest you reach too high is NOT humility, but denseness.

Christ is baptized!
---Cluny on 1/7/14

cluny, to you everyone is dense. you really have sat yourself higher than I can reach. guess I will always be dense because I try hard not to get too high for my own good.

\\I know it is father,Son and Holy Ghost. please don't think I am that dense.\\

Then PUT it the way it really is.

And yes, you ARE than dense.

gosh cluny, don't you ever tire of being so picky. I know it is father,Son and Holy Ghost. please don't think I am that dense. if you would use your time to uplift you wouldn't have time to nik pik every little thing that is posted. it is still God, Jesus, Comforter. anyway you want to put it, its still the trinity.

\\God, Son and Holy Spirit are one yet they are 3. I don't understand all that but I do believe it.\\

You mean "Father," not "God," shira.

The Son and the Holy Spirit are no less God than the Father.

Glory to Jesus Christ!
---Cluny on 1/4/14

no one was minding any store. Jesus father was still in heaven. He sent His own Son to earth to die for our sin. God, Son and Holy Spirit are one yet they are 3. I don't understand all that but I do believe it.

This is the big error of Oneness, aka Sabellian Modalism.

You don't actually think the Logos/Son had a beginning, do you?

Christ is born! Glorify Him!

---1st_cliff on 12/30/13

Today the Virgin gives birth to the Transcendent One,
And the earth offers a cave to the Unapproachable One.
Angels with shepherds glorify HIm,
The Magi journey with the star,
Since for our sakes
The Pre-eternal God was born
As a little Child.

Christ is born! Glorify Him!

1. You don't think this is the last word on Church history or Christian doctrine, do you?

2. Where did you get the idea that you believed in the REAL Jesus when you're of one mind with the demon-worshipping mahometans, jmarc? They want to ban the Feast of the Nativity, too.

To all who suffer from christmas keeping, tree bowing pagans in christian wrapping paper, Who will afflict with repeated acts of cruelty those who show the truth of the lie they bought into:

Hold on the real Christ!
You are not the first to to be belittled!

2nd Tim. 1:12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I AM NOT ASHAMED: for I KNOW WHOM I have believed, and am persuaded that HE is able to keep that which I have committed unto HIM against that day.

celebrating the birthday of Christ when you never commanded it.

Well you must be in some serious trouble because God never commanded you to use the toilet, either! Or to even breathe! How dare you breathe without being told to!
---Jed on 12/21/13

Our Father in Heaven,

i humbly confess and beg forgiveness for jmarc of the infildelity he commited.

He refuses to celebrate the Nativity according to the Flesh and Incarnation of Your beloved Son.

Feeling guilty for feasting when the Apostolic tradition says to feast.

Considering things You have created, such as mistletoe, unclean.

Being Antichrist by refusing to rejoice in Jesus Christ coming in the flesh, and feeling a little bit spiritually superior to the general run of Christians who do this Godly practice.

Forgive him, Lord of these abominations.

i repent of his sins!

In the name of the one true Christ, Yashua the Anointed Messiah, the real Jesus, Whom jmarc denies, Amen
---Cluny on 12/20/13

I don't condemn people on their beliefs were or why about Christmas. I do find it a great opportunity were people are more open to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That is what I will sow.
---BRYAN on 12/20/13

Jmarc....You cannot ask forgiveness for anyone other than yourself. Any of your dead relatives are already in heaven or hell. Did Jesus command you to use a computer?

Our Father in Heaven,

i humbly confess and beg forgiveness for me, my Father, and Grand Fathers of the disobedience we commited.

Christmas trees we put up,

giving Santa lists of things we wanted but did't need,

teaching our children songs that teach lies,

gluttonising our selves at the festivities,

putting up the mistletoe,

celebrating the birthday of Christ when you never commanded it.

Forgive us Lord of these abominations.

i repent!

In many of the Slavic Orthodox churches, there is what's called the Holy Supper or Shepherd's Supper on Christmas eve.

After a full day of fasting as strictly as possible, when the first star is visible, a family gathers to eat a strict vegetarian meal. It's usually 12 dishes: peirogi, dried mushroom soup, beans, and the like.

Many Eastern European countries have a similar custom.

Glory to Jesus Christ!
---Cluny on 12/17/13

Once we recognize, that the central truth, the real miracle of the incarnation of Christ is the conception, which took place on or about Dec. 25. It's obvious that the pagan winter festivals are corruptions of a marvelous truth. So we are free to use this time of year to give thanks for the genuine miracle which is the foundation of the Christian faith.

This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners 1 Tim 1:15.

For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich 2 Cor 8:9

Scott, the LITURGICAL day that Russian and Serbian Orthodox is 25 December. It just happens to fall on the day most of the world calls 7 January. You can compare it with Daylight Savings versus Standard time.

The whole Old Calendar/New Calendar issue has been one called "a situation bewildering to Orthodox and non-Orthodox alike."

The Armenians never adopted the Solemnity of the Nativity on 25 December. Instead, they continue the original Eastern custom of the Solemnity of the Incarnation, combining Annunciation, Nativity, Adoration of the Magi, and Baptism of Christ.

But Old Calendar Armenians observe it on 19 January.

Confused now?

Glory to Jesus Christ!

IN Orthodoxy, Christmas does not START until 25 December.

There is a fasting period of 40 days beforehand, when meat and meat products are avoided as much as possible, beginning on 15 November, with a relaxation in the USA on Thanksgiving Day.

The last few days are especially strict fasting, with one meal, ideally.

From 25 December through 31, the greeting is "Christ is born!" with the response, "Glorify Him!"

Then comes Theophany on 6 January, which continues for a week.

Glory to Jesus Christ!
