"//You grow more ignorant daily!//

Dear Nana,
you do not have to resort to personal attacks."
Luke

Luke we are all ignorant. There are something(s) we do not know.

Being ignorant is no problem. If you are ignorant of something you can get "learned" up.

But if you are stupid there is no hope for you anywhere.

So thank God you're ignorant and not stupid.
---Elder on 5/28/14

//Luke,

Me saying, "You grow more ignorant daily!" is not a personal attack. It is what you demonstrate daily.//

Nana, all because I do not agree with your interpretation of Isaiah 1, I grow ignorant. I suppose anyone who doesn't agree with you, they are ignorant. And the kind thing for you to do is to let them know when they disagree with you. That is a very kind Christian thing you do. Great are your rewards in heaven.
---Luke on 5/29/14

Luke,

Me saying, "You grow more ignorant daily!" is not a personal attack. It is what you demonstrate daily.

--Isa 1:3 The ox knoweth his owner...but Israel doth not know...
John 10:4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.
--Isa 1:4 ...seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD...
Psa 37:9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.
Gal 6:8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption, but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
Heb 4:11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
Unbelief breeds corruption and disobedience, then wrath.
God to unbelievers.

Gods commandment was to love. That's it...love the brethren
---shira4368 on 5/28/14

The New Testament teaches that those who are saved will walk in obedience to GOD.

1Jo 2:3,4
And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

Eph 2:10

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Read Romans 6.

We do good because GOD has changed our hearts not to be saved but because we are saved.
---Samuelbb7 on 5/28/14

//You grow more ignorant daily!//

Dear Nana,
you do not have to resort to personal attacks. All they do is reveal who you are, and the kind of fruits you produce. Discussing biblical passages is a great means of discussion with other believers. They are meant to edify each other. Your comments do not edify anyone, so they are meaningless.
Let me remind you also that the nation of Israel to this day is not saved, so the people spoken of in Isaiah 1 were unbelievers. Agape
---Luke on 5/28/14

"Not speaking to believers, but the wicked works of Judah and the great works of God."
Luke on 5/27/14

To say Isaiah 1 was not addressed to believers is ludicrous. They were believers as even Christ attested to when he came to, John 14:1 "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me." Paul speaking of them says, Romans 9:4_5 "Who are Israelites, to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises, Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen."

You grow more ignorant daily!
---Nana on 5/27/14

//In Isaiah 1 God was telling heaven and earth that his children whom he had "nourished and brought up" rebelled, he basically told them to walk in the light and have a heart.//

Isaiah 1 happens to be a vision of Isaiah, concerning the wickedness of Judah. Not speaking to believers, but the wicked works of Judah and the great works of God.
---Luke on 5/27/14

Romans 13:12_13 "The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day, not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying."

John 3:19 "And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil."

In Isaiah 1 God was telling heaven and earth that his children whom he had "nourished and brought up" rebelled, he basically told them to walk in the light and have a heart.

To you Paul says, "therefore cast off the works of darkness", not christ in you.

When one is saved you are already in the middle of a war. It is spiritual warfare. The flesh will always war against the spirit. You war against principalities in high places. The only way to defeat your enemy is to put on the whole armor of God. Please read Romans 13:12. 2corinthians 6:7. Ephesians 6:11-12. It will help you.

// "No, you do not have to be good, you will be change to be good."
Luke on 5/20/14//
And you say:

//That is False if this following is true,// and turn around and give: What God requires:
Isaiah 1:16_17//

Do you not know that in the Isaiah passage, God is talking to the nation of Israel, they were not saved.
I was speaking of believers who are born of the Spirit and have asked Jesus into their hearts and have being forgiven. Not talking about unbelievers. There is a big difference. Believers are good because of Christ who lives in them. Christ was not living in the people of Israel.
---Luke on 5/24/14

Interesting, challenging would be my opinion. We all raised/have a different view of God,until we render our selves to.Him.We must do much more with all respect than.receive Him as our Lord and Saviour we must seek Him
Include Him in.every aspect of our lives. We must render our WILL over to Him.
If we do not this...we have defrauded our selves and Him.
Read chapters Mt.6,ch.7 Ps.23 These just some good chapters to start.
Ask,speak.to.God in Prayer to.help you get to.know Him.
Learn to.talk with him.

Once you begin.to.have Relationship smiles..with God through your talks with him in Jesus, too His son.who gave His life..wow! You will never be the same.

What God requires:
Isaiah 1:16_17 "Wash you, make you clean, put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes, cease to do evil, Learn to do well, seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow."

Romans 2:7
1 Thesalonians 2:11_12
1 Peter 3:11_12 "Let him eschew evil, and do good, let him seek peace, and ensue it. For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil."

Do I have to be good now to make it to heaven?-Teddie_B on 3/29/14
No, you do not "have" to.
But, with the Holy Spirit residing in you, you will start to have conflict between the flesh and the Spirit. As time goes by, although sometimes instantly, you will want to please your Heavenly Father by doing good works. These good works, along with the fruits of the Spirit being outwardly evident of your inward change, are what others will see. Therefore, giving a reason of hope that is within you, you can share the good news and not be ashamed. Otherwise, how do you know if you are truly saved if there is no outward evidence of the new man?
You should "want" to obey after knowing what God through Christ as done for you.

Romans 1:18_19 "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness, Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them, for God hath shewed it unto them."

Therefore, lawless = disobedient.
---Nana on 4/20/14

//Who is the lawless?//

The lawless ones are those who are without Christ.
"And you (believers) He made alive who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air (the devil) the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lust of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others" Eph. 2:1-3.

The only gate that leads to life is the cross. This IS the narrow way. The ONLY way. Jesus is the DOOR you have to come through to have eternal life. There is no eternal life on the other side of the door.

And let's take the word obedience......obedience to what exactly? Obedience of faith according to the MYSTERY ..Romans 16:25-27. Or obedience of the law? Two entirely different things.

//recounted Matthew 7:28_29.//

The passage,
"And so it was when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teachings, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes"
Nothing in the passage sinners were saved by their own works.
Only that they understood clearly His teachings. What did Jesus say about their works?
"Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done man wonders in Your name? All of Matthew 5, 6, 7 and the first line of 8 are lessons Jesus gave to the people at large as recounted in Matthew 7:28_29.
The audience: great multitudes, Matthew 8:1

"The ungodly cannot find the strait and narrow gate only believers who abide in Christ"

Luke 1:79 "To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace."

You like always make no sense Lisa. Hardly those who "sit in darkness and in the shadow of death" are believers abiding in Christ.

Christ said:
"And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world."
---Nana on 4/17/14

Matthew 7:26_29 "And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house, and it fell: and great was the fall of it. And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes."

The contrast in Matthew 7:24_29 is between the actions of the "hearers" of his word which do or do not them. It is not between the lost and the found. The lesson is about heeding.
---Nana on 4/17/14

//Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life," and few there be that find it."

The ungodly cannot find the strait and narrow gate only believers who abide in Christ because,
"We are lead by the Spirit to obey the word of GOD and follow JESUS."

Only those lead by the Spirit will find the Strait and narrow gate.
The lost are not looking for the narrow gate. They are children of wrath, walking to the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, the prince of the power of the air, Ephesians 2:2,3.
---Luke on 4/17/14

Proverbs 4:27 "Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil."
Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Our salvation does not depend on our own righteousness - if it did, we would all fail. It depends on Jesus's righteousness.

John says that when we sin, he forgives us. Paul says "if we say we are not sinners, we are liars" - and he was writing to CHRISTIANS, not unbelievers.

Trying to do good, believing the wrath of God is hanging over your head like a sword of Damocles to strike you down the first time you make a mistake - is legalism, that was a trap the Apostles warned about.

Ok Cluny, I'm game. Tell us when all that happens in Revelation 6, happened.
---David on 4/3/14

JamesL, I think it is important to remember that God sees the heart not necessarily the words. So a sinners prayer to one may only be shallow words, but to another something deeper. If the Holy Spirit is involved convicting the heart, that is something you cannot see or judge. Those who have received Jesus Christ, it is now up to The Lord to take them deeper into truth. It's at that time The Lord tests our faith to see if it is real or superficial.

So stop ranting about it being false. I prayed the sinners prayer at 8, but The Lord showed me many years later that I needed to totally surrender to the cross. Was I not saved at 8???? Only God knows that answer. But this I know....He was there all those years. This I know.

Rita_H: I have never seen a Sinners prayer card before. I am just hearing that it is being used at all. You are right, a card or a book cannot save. It is faith in the Lord Jesus Christ that saves. Maybe the card was meant to be a reminder to those who have faithfully given their lives to the Lord, of the day they did. While some will truthfully apply this, some jokers will use it to deceive themselves.

Adetunji - I really dislike the Sinners Prayer' card. Some people are truly saved after reading it but a very large number are being given the impression that just reciting that prayer means they are saved. I've heard some being coaxed into reading it out loud and then being told "There you are, that was easy wasn't it? You are now a born-again Christian. The devil must be laughing with delight each time he hears that. Some carry that card for life and treat it like a 'lucky charm'. Of course, for those particular people it will be as much help to them as a lucky charm. I cringe each time I hear someone say "I know I'm Heaven bound because I've carried this card with me for 37 years" (or whatever period).

You have to be a "LOVER OF GOODNESS" (Titus 1:8).

If you have to be COMMANDED/ORDERED to do "GOODNESS", then you do NOT HAVE the SPIRIT of goodness/peace (HOLY Spirit).

We must not be a LOVER OF EVIL/darkness.

Did your dad/father teach you to be the kind of person that needs to be ordered/"commanded" to be good,

OR did your dad want you to learn to make your own decisions and STILL BE A GOOD PERSON?.

If you love God as FATHER (ABBA FATHER), then b e a LOVER OF GOODNESS (and then you can also be "MASTER" of yourself.

Titus 1:8 is what God wants each us to be...."lover of goodness, master of himself".

Be a SON of His. All verses are from the RSV.

Admit that you were not alive 2,000 years ago and that you never even had the chance to shake hands with Jesus or the apostles (scripture was TOLD/said to the people that were alive at THAT TIME).

We should learn what is important for SPIRIT-FILLED worshipers and make the distinction of what the JEWS were told by Jesus (they only accepted Jesus's messiahship but not the SPIRIT, John 7:39, 1 John 5:8).

The INCIDENT AT ANTIOCH (Council of Jerusalem, 50 A.D., Acts 11:26) decided that the Jews who accepted Jesus's crucifixion ONLY should continue to follow the laws of MOSES.

Acts 9:2 says that SAUL (before he became PAUL) persecuted "THE WAY"....then Jesus said "I AM THE WAY..." (John 14:6).

You push tradition on another blog. You claim there is more than the Bible we should live by. Now you try to confuse a new young believer.

Why can't we say tradition tells us to call on the Lord for Salvation? Be careful now and don't back up on your other statements.

For whosoever shall call upon the Lord shall be saved... now that is similar even if you claim it is not.

Strange. Of the thousands of things a new believer needs to watch for you try to confuse him with this. Shame, shame.

no one mentions the mechanics of the believer and what's been done on his behalf through the provision of God.

In the denominational circles I was in I was told " go to the altar" confess your sins. "ask Jesus into your heart", "then be baptized"
Never once was I told that I am complete in Christ. Col 2:10.
Knowing, not wishing, who you are in Christ makes the difference. Religion doesn't have answers to questions that set believers free
Believers are being robbed by pretenders of the knowledge of the Word of God concerning their position in Christ.
Christian life doesn't operate on the basis of ignorance. You need to know how the doctrines of grace work.

Teddie - welcome into God's family. I was so pleased to read your question. For 17 years I was a churchgoer, for one year I was absent from church and then I was saved-Glory be to God-and it happened suddenly (similarly, though not exactly, as your conversion did).

If you continue to read scripture, pray daily and attend regularly church for worship you will enjoy being a Christian and will grow in grace and love for others and will learn how to handle temptation.

It is not the job of one Christian to demean the salvation of another so don't allow anyone here to trivialise what you have done. Enjoy your new found faith.

\\Oh yea? Isn't Rom 10:9-13 similar?\\

Nope.

\\Anyway what did that statement contribute to this issue?\\

Clarification and a warning to someone to beware of evangelical non-Biblical buzz words.

\\Peter cried out one time, "Lord save me." Is that similar?\\

Nope. Peter was drowning in the sea. He was not asking for spiritual salvation.

Glory to Jesus Christ!

Peter cried out one time, "Lord save me." Is that similar?

So, how is Christ your Savior?

Cluny, you are such a nit-picking party-pooper. Teddie has just become a follower of Jesus and you challenge the way he describes his conversion! Really!

Romans 10:8-10 "But what does it say? "THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART "-- that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved, for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation."

Jesus is "in your heart,...believe in your heart,...with the heart a person believes."

Grow up, and stop bothering those young in Christ.

Tessie_B: Yes, you have to be good but not by your standard of goodness, it has to be by God's estandard. This you cannot achieve by your power & might (Zechariah 4:6) but by the help of the Spirit of God/Jesus. If you obey God's instructions (general & specific) [John 14:23] the Lord will dwell in you, lead you to do good & lead you to His paradise at the end.

There are over thirty thousand different denominations in the United States alone - each having their own rituals, traditions, ways of living, and interpretations of the bible.

Your best solution is to read the bible - twice would be better - and meditate on the words of God from beginning to end without the use of concordances and other christian refernce books - and especially not the plethora of book authors who will share their "secrets" of the bible. You may not understand it all as you read, but you'll get the main concept. Also, ask in prayer to have the Holy Spirit guide you in understanding.

The only way to make it to heaven is "love" in which all the laws and commandments hang from.

Teddie_B, get yourself a good study Bible. Begin reading the book of John in the New Testament.

Becareful believing every poster on this site. Don't trust the internet to teach you properly. Hollywood movies will not teach you the truth.

Read and study the Bible. Learn to check other Bible references/verses to prove what the one you are studying says.

What the Bible says makes sence some can't see that so be careful who you learn from.

Trust the Lord and realize you will fail somethimes but you will never be "re-lost." You are Saved forever.God Bless you.

Your name is written in the lamb's book of life. You just told the world your prefer Jesus over what the world offers. It's not a madder of being good it is are you following Jesus are your selfish desires and you can tell the difference.

"Do I have to be good now to make it to heaven?" No.
"There is none good but God." However, it is "He that works in you, [as a submitted believer], both to will, and to do, that which is pleasing in His sight." Therefore, if, you are in Him, you will emulate Jesus, and Jesus "went about doing good, and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him". And "as He is, [as believers, empowered of the Father], so are we in this world." Refs. Mat 19:17>Phl 2:13>Act 10:38>1Jo 4:17
